I'd assume it was more of a general kind of statement. maybe it was in reference to how people often get the term "assault rifle" wrong, or even the word "gun" itself.

Too many guests. I hate it when they do that. You often see it on talk show press junkets. The whole cast is there and barely anyone speaks.
