There's something very cool with the blend of colors in the background from the three generations of grow lights behind Shane that makes for a great visual and a truly classic video!
A lot of good information👍 I usually adjust the lights according to stretch or heat stress, if the plant is showing signs of stretch I'll lower the light and leave it for 24 hours. If it's showing signs of heat stress I'll higher the light and leave it for 24 hours, and a good isolatating fan blowing between the lights and the top of the canopy lets me get the light that little bit closer.
SIERRA ERA people that don’t smoke think it’s super funny to say anything about weed, even if it’s literally not a joke. I think of it like how middle schoolers giggle over regular words
Adjust-a-Wings also make Super Spreaders to go with with their high quality adjustable reflectors which dissipate both light and heat more evenly preventing “hot spots”. Thus allowing for closer proximity to the canopy.
can't say it wasn;t informative......just thought life is more important than watching that all the way to the end. i hope it helped someone who suffered thru it
Excellent. You've confirmed my current process. The foot tall seedlings are all doing well. I have my light at the top of my grow tent and I'll now come down a foot for a week and check again.
Even Conor McGregor? IV heard two woman at least have been compelled. No shade on the Irish or Shane, I just couldn't miss this opportunity to educate/insinuate against the MSM silence and UFC Disney lawyers power. He needs disowned and his bits fed to the pigs.
My plants are growing tight and short. No sign of nutrient deficiency, but after 8 wks they are only 12 inches tall….someone has told me to lift my lights and make them stretch….what do you think?
Could you please do a video specifically targeting how high to set l.e.d. lights as we tend to have to mount led lights higher than hid lights as the led's tend to bleach out the top's of plants due to the light intensity I would suspect. Please elaborate on this topic.
Maybe measuring out and tattching a dangling a streamer or bob-wait line on a string from the light so its a reference to the top of the plant or canopy.
Very interesting video but I really think room environment, genetics and plants different stages plays a big part in how low or high you should go with your lights
Can I just adjust an LED light as low as possible so the footprint appears to cover the plants and then adjust the intensity knob to achieve the desired ppfd based on my iphone using photone app?
I am trying to figure that out as well... I have a ac affinity 400w Ionboards44 and they recommend this n that but for me I have it on the lowest possible setting for light when they are seedling and going into veg.. and let the plant tell me.. they'll start praising or reaching up to the light in a good way not that stringy stretch.
You can use app make sure it's calibrated right a phone camera can only do so much but for budget purposes gives you an idea at least what range you in
YES! My plants fried under the too-close lights last time just as you described. Tried fiddling with LUX phone apps but keeping Leaf Surface Temps just under ambient room temp may save me this time. I have an IR surface temp gun / baby thermometer that I can use! Thank you!!!
Closed tent tests is the way to go when testing lights. But it all depends on your own setup. If your growing in a tent the ppfd readings can go up drastically when closed. Your plants spend most the time in a closed tent. So why not do a closed tent or space test? 🤔 i don't know anyone that grows with only 3 walls and no top... they are either opened or closed..you loose alot of reflective light. I can unzip my tent 3 inches and I get a drastic change on my meter. I'm using 640 watts. 2 viparspectra xs2000s and 1 xs1500 in a 4x4 with tent open..i get 733 on ppfd meter and when I close the tent the reading jumps to 836 ppfd. This is at 34 inches each light is side by side with the 1500 in center. Both xs2000s are set at 75% and the xs1500 is set at 50%...when I jack up the power to 100% on all 3 and close the tent I get a max reading of 1,228... when I open the tent I get a reading of 1000 so that's proof if your growing in a tent be sure to do a closed tent reading and so on....
But light intensity in LED could also burn the leaves without necessarily an increase of temperature, so the method of messuring temperature would be better with HPS?
Hi Shane a quick question I have 5 lights 3 are 600w and I have one 1500w and a 1000w, because they are different I don't know what distance I should hang them, my gut instinct is telling me to hang the highest wattage higher up and the 600w lower, any info would be much appreciated please.
With leds it’s the Watts marshydro 300w =130w you can get really close from 1set leafs to kick start her then rise light as the nodes grow for more coverage . mars hydro pro 2 80 400w =200w I do 20” as it stretches rise the light up 2” Many people give up and moan on sites once you master the distance you be happy bunny
Measure leaves temperature...so damn easy, yet I didn't figure it out by myself. I replaced CFL with LED, went to full power 100% and started to wonder why my leaves went yellow, lost chlorophyl, and even became white (basilium). Since my growbox was too low in height, I went back to CFL ! Funny, isn't it ? It seems that LEDs are NOT always better than CFL, even 200W CFL.
Hi, I m using the new citizen horticulture series lpw and lprb ...I can't seem to find a sweet spot. I have 7 50w COBs in 90cm...probably too much. I start at 70cm and finished at 40cm...amazing flowers but the plants seem to suffer a lot too. Do you have any info on these new cobs? Thanks a lot.
Hi Shane the 1200 par you mentioned is that a good guideline for all stages of growth of a medical grow in other words from seed to harvest I have the cheaper meter you mentioned and I’m about to start using it on my next grow for the first time with your Migro 600
Question please, I have a vipar specter 400. Is there a formula or a calculator online where I can figure out how low I can hang the light and dim it to save electricity when the plants are still small? Thank you
I've noticed that you never use parabolic reflectors! I use a parabolic reflector with a 1000w HPS and find that I can put the light as close as two feet above my plants depending on the strain, sativas seem to do the best with the lights less than three feet away. also I noticed you don't use defusers with the adjustawing any particular reason? they really cool down the hotspot and allow the light to be closer to the canopy! I believe that LED's have their place but if you want to be productive nothing replaces metal halide and HPS for growing hemp.
Ive got the kingbo 2000w led. I had it 24 inches about the top of canopy but noticed the tips of my leaves were burning and some leaves were feeling dry and papery. Would you recommend hanging about 40 inches ?
Please do a video on the effects of migro cobs into a water column(aquarium w/plants). Would want to see spectral loss or gain, intensity loss or gain, ppfd at various heights... Thanks brother, for all of your helpful info!
If I was using a lux meter on my phone what numbers should I be showing for best results in a 4x8 grow room using K4000 AGLEX IN hanging them to the right height 🤔
I think just put your Temperature & Humidity Meter probe at the base of your plants and as long as the temperature is between 22-26 your be fine with the height especially if your dimming your leds to 70w at seedling stage and increasing it to 140w 210w 285w as the plant gets more hardy (telos 10 pro mesh) saves on electric and vegg'ing the plant you don't need as much electric or those red leds on. So height varies depending on wattage. I guess leds are slightly different to hid/hps lights but they say plants like a tent to be 22-26 degrees c so if your probe says 25 at the base of the stem your about right.
Are lux or FC measurements of any use with grow lights? With LEDs they don't give off much heat so surely that's not a reliable way to suss the height?
Lux measurements ar not accurate for photosynthetic light, they do not measure red and blue light properly. As LED's don't give off too much heat they can be closer to the plants. Your skin is a good guide to physical heat detection and when it is too hot for life.
Thanks for the great info ! Can you please make a video comparing a 600w hps adjust a wings vs air cooled hood so we can know how high the air cooled reflector can be to optimize light spread ?
What about the use of my light rails? My LED's are always moving either north/south-south/north or east/ west-west/east. I've designed a turn style or inverted lazy-suzan that allows me to rotate the whole light assembly any direction I want thus changing the light rails to allow light penetration and never a hot spot or high leaf temp no matter if I'm 3' inches above my plants. How much PAR can I allow them now without damaging cell structure? What are my plants new thresh hold (PAR numbers)? Am I on to something or is what I'm doing a bad invention and just a novelty? They are getting PAR readings of 2600 but its never at that for more than a couple of seconds. The plants do experience time with readings of 200 PAR when the light panel has gotten its farthest from that plant but then they change direction and come back . I don't keep them that low ALL the time because I don't get any stretch. I currently have Plants that are 8" tall and 10" wide and solid green because the foliage is so dense. I just came up with this turn style idea 2 weeks ago and the plants are only 3 weeks old from seed. Long story short is how high of a PAR number can they constructively put to use? Have I just created new maximum yield numbers to strive for?
Fucking awesome idea, man ! I'm thinking about implementing it if you don't mind :P Gonna try a circular constant movement. Or maybe even some oscillation in all dimensions. Fuck yeah ! Tomorrow I'm patenting this!
@@YuriPetrovich LOL Go for it Brother. I hope you make a fortune! It would be easy to automate the turn style so that a slow rotation of the whole fixture is achieved. It's nice to see that someone thinks it has merit. Now go make us proud, or me proud and you wealthy. LOL I hope it does my friend, I hope it does. I just need to know if some new PAR numbers should be applied with this implemented.
@@YuriPetrovich Right on Brother. I'll be looking forward to seeing your results and to see if you have any higher yields. I'm sure they will be thicker, more dense and have a richer canopy of foliage. I say that because mine appear to have these positive traits already. I just need some stretch before between leaf condensation and over crowded foliage becomes a issue. Can't wait to see your data you collect! Peace out 4 now Leonid.
Hi Keith, great idea! I think that the maximum PAR is 1200.Anything higher will slow the growth and maybe burn your plants.I take this number from a video by shane here on the migro channel, but can't remember which one.In these days i'm watching a lot from his channel, excellent educative content. For sure is a video about PAR,maybe the video on the best hanging height, can't remember! ;)
Hey mate, it my first grow in 15years and I just bought a sp3000 led in a 3x3 tent how far away for veg n flower and at what power level? Any advice would be appreciated thanks
I’m using mine on strawberry plants I grew from seeds. It should be furthest away with seedlings and mine are doing well 12 inches. I also have a SF1000D on other plants. I have that at 24 inches but it’s much stronger. U can feel the heat coming from lights. It’s $76 right now and a great light. I just wish I could of found one not made in China. Good luck with your grow
@@UNVACCINATED20 wow that's cheap I payed $600 Australian dollars for one but not made in China directly from the company, thanks and good luck too mate. I still only have mine at 50% output since its such a strong light imo.

I have a 4 x 2 x 6 grow tent with a 1000 watt LED I have two clones in the leaves are turning yellow.. I believe they're getting too much lightif so what size LED light should I get to this size tent
First thing you need to do is check is how far above those clones you have the light. That is a lot of light for a 2x4 tent and if your LED is closer than 36", I would expect it to burn up pretty quick. I have 600 watts LED in a front closet that is not quite 48" wide where I grow lettuce, basil, jalapenos, cilantro and if I go less than 36", I can expect all of the seedlings and greens to just dry up. The lights are 19" above the top of the jalapeno plant and it is going crazy. With flowering cannabis I have gone down to 12". I have used 3 different brands of LED and its pretty much the same.
I have a Rockpals 600W LED grow light with vegetative and flowering settings. I currently have 1 week old seedlings. Can you advise what is the optimum distance and power setting I should keep them on in the seedling stage? Thx

I have a 300 and I have mine close because the light isn’t that extreme. U can do as close to 6 inches if say
@@UNVACCINATED20 ok thanks I have mine at 50 millimetres away and seems to be going great but will be moving it closer when I get to 12/12
I’m using mine on strawberry plants I grew from seeds.
I still only have mine at 50% output since its such a strong light imo.
bro is so lit in this video...haha
Have you ever done 4t5 4X2 vs Mars hydro ts600 as far as for veg and par
Super toasted,luv it
Please get some long sleeve hoodies, and always wear them with the hoody up, and wear pants/sweatpants (and sunglasses on). #Melanoma is no joke! And protect your eyes a little with some shades! I love and very much appreciate your content! Thank you!🙏👌

Always the best
I have used 3 different brands of LED and its pretty much the same.
god level knowledge!
What about 400 w hps still 40 inches from the seedlings?
I have a Rockpals 600W LED grow light with vegetative and flowering settings. I currently have 1 week old seedlings. Can you advise what is the optimum distance and power setting I should keep them on in the seedling stage? Thx
They have their own advice online, best to follow that.
How far should i hang a 300w led in flower ?
whats good for us is good for them
Nice break down.
What fan model between lights ?
