Balance is everything. I see so many skaters starting out trying to kickflip and trying grinds but everything starts with your balance and stance on your board. Be comfortable stepping, turning basic riding and things like jumping on a moving board or jumping on the board while putting it down when you're running. Once you're balance is good everything becomes so much easier. My tip for everyone starting out, ride everywhere and all the time especially on the street. You're going to fall, but that's just part of the fun:)
im so glad I started this way with just being on the board (I'm a beginner rn) but i feel like I'm a lot more comfortable on my board compared to a few people who have been skating for several months
Please keep at it. You've got the perfect attitude toward the learning process. It's refreshing to see someone articulate the fundamentals rather than jump straight to trying a kickflip. It's like reading sheet music verses playing tabs. This is how you get better faster.
One of the few truly positive things in the world I have seen lately has been the recent uptake in people picking up skateboarding. It's not just that though, it's out of genuine interest for skating. Skating has no barriers, everyone belongs. No matter the skin colour, language, region, whether you're depressed as hell, a happy go lucky person, someone who has been through hell, or someone who is literally royalty, skateboarding sees you no different. Have fun out there. I used to skate semi pro, and I've just picked it up again. Not interested in any contests or anything. I just crave that connection back. When you find the tricks that resonate with you as you learn them, there is a freedom of expression that I can't even find with art, let alone any other "sports". Keep it up homie, this is the kind of coverage skateboarding deserves. People having fun.
Also, a little tip for an Ollie. Imagine you are standing side on next to a low wooden border or rail and you want to simply jump over it (no skateboard involved). You would lift the foot nearest to the rail, jump off the back foot, and then land with your front foot on the other side as you lift your back foot over the rail. Picture that in your head and it is kind of what you are doing with an ollie.
Ricky glaser brought me here! You are doing great, just keep skating and you'll get better over time! 1: learning to skate is a loong process 2: like ricky says, dont be too hard on yourself, you're trying and thats what matters 😁 3: skate or die 🤓
I been suck in a slump haven't skated for a while now. But after seeing your video, it inspired me to get back out there once again. Thank you and don't give up. it make take some time but it's worth it. Keep on pushing.
Never stop skating! Ive been skating for 13 years now and i have met so many good people, made friends for life out of it and grown a lot troughout my skateboard life. Some real good lifelessons to be learned in skateboarding 😁
Helga (Helen), Your skateboard videos are inspiring and it is wonderful to see you try new things that are out of your comfort zone. I look forward to seeing your progress on rollerskates, skateboarding and life.
This video is pretty well made for a channel your size. quality audio and video, good editing, and you and your jokes remind me of a friend from sheffield. @@HeglaUA-cam you won’t get humbled 😭 it’s just when I started I preferred nobody to be there because i could learn more easily. Especially learning to drop in lol I had to ask someone to hold my hands for that when I was learning 💀

Here from Ricky's channel, liked and subbed for progress updates. Keep at it! Watch old braille how to videos for inspiration and great tips too! Keep it up and keep us posted! If you really dedicate yourself and work at it consistently I bet you land a rolling kick flip by the end of the year.
Your videos last year inspired me to relearn how to skate, but then I didn't because of illness. I've been thinking the last few days about trying again and as if some weird twist of face you pop up on my feed with this vid. You absolute legend!
i know im late to the party but i just saw this today,im glad to see youre still skating! a couple of notes 1) for your shove its, when you are using your hands, look at how you are wrappping your back hand around the edge of the board. That is how you should set your foot up. You want to "wrap your back foot around the edge of the board and push that as hard as you can to get the spin right 2) good job on getting your ollies down better, very proud of you. I found a video of a guy who broke down an ollie in 3 seperate parts. Obviously you have the pop and slide down, next after you pop and slide you want to bring your knees to your chest, then as you do that you want to raise your torso up. For me swinging my arms up as i jump helped me get my ollies higher. Also please please PLEASE! make an ollie video i would love to watch that! 3) i love how you said finding new places to skate. Except for a SKATE PARK! Girl, get to a skate park where there are other skaters who have the experience youre looking for. I work at a skate park and i can PROMISE you, someone there will see you and come over and HELP you. I'm not trying to push you into anything but i can tell you i got alot better once i went to a park found my people and had them teach me what they knew. I am still asking for help to this day and im a full grown human, skaters wil help skaters i promise.
Ricky brought me here, and you're doing well. one thing that can help with ollies, that took me a while to learn too, is leaning your front foot sideways so the bottom of your foot comes up with the front side of front foot still making contact. Doing this during ollie when you go to slide your front foot forward brings the board up higher. Also you can bring your front foot more in the middle of the length of the board when setting up for an ollie. These two things together will help for higher pop and rolling ollies.
I saw your first few skate videos, subbed and then a few months later was watching Ricky and now i am here! I am learning as well so its very fun to see other people progress. Keep it up! I am excited to see where you end up! Good video
I’m a newbie to your channel and I find you fun, happy, inspirational, talented, & beautiful. . I love your videos, they make me happy bcz of your hunour, personality and drive. I’ve started inline skating lately and i’m having the most fun ever. Keep reaching for the stars, thanks!
Was already committed to the journey but now I’m fiending for updates lol Great job so far!!! These are most definitely motivational and I love each one! Can’t wait for the next one!
I watched a Ricky video on ollies and I can't remember if it was a full on tutorial on how to do it or if it was one of those "what you are doing wrong" videos but I found out from that video I had the wrong foot position on my tail when I pop the board. Ollies are still not consistent but it's getting there. Ended up just doing a ton of ollies on the dirt in the trail I skate and felt it helped a lot since it helped me just focus on the motion of popping, jumping, and sliding. I think once I get them more consistent and also maybe not turning my board or moving it back as much, I will go for moving ollies or I might just go for moving ollies after I get the consistency since for some people it's easier to do ollie while moving. My fs pivots were lowkey getting better and I didn't even notice until my last session on Sunday. Love the progress videos, honestly feel its necessary so others can see that it is normal to have to keep practicing and failing to learn.
Saw you on Ricky's vid, yeah, you're doing great, you've got more commitment than I do, stopped skating after 2 months but still continued watching skate contents, might return to skating oneday
omg I watched your videos when I started skating about around 6 weeks ago and I thought she's sooo coool I wish there was more new content, and here you are, yaaay!!

I know you said this isn't meant to be inspirational lol, but it is for me! I relate to your journey, so thank you so much for such an authentic video:)
Hi, try to get that back leg as high as you can when you do the ollie, it also helps if you do a "squat" in the air And try learn no comply, its nice and easy trick
Fantastic work, you made progress so fast! I would say practice falling safely too because you'll end up falling sooner or later and it's good to know how to fall!

Regarding Ollie. The biggest advice I've ever got is. Try to make similar motion to jumping over something sideways. Jumping sideways will help you drag the board so. This will make your Ollie smoother, cleaner, higher and help you land it easier.
5:00 To be fair, a 5 second manual ain't nothing to be sniffed at. It does help if you're moving as the forward movement gives you a bit more stability. Speaking of stability, 1 tip that might help a bit is to tighten up your back truck (the kingpin, just to make sure nobody is tightening up their actual truck into the board). Yours doesn't look crazy loose to be fair, but if you're struggling to balance just crank that nut a little (sorry, that sounds weird ... and a bit painful too now I think of it ...). You can always loosen it as you improve (if you want, it's all about what works for you). If you tighten up the back truck though it means that your ankle doesn't need to worry about balancing on the X axis (the line that goes across the width of the board, I don't know the skating term, if there even is one, so I went with a mathematical one to give the impression I know what I'm talking about ... although now that I think about it it might actually be the Z axis ... bugger, I wish I knew what the fk I'm on about), the tighter the back truck you don't need to waste energy and only need focus on balancing upwardly ... up'n'down ...erm, the y axis? ... got it? ... I think I've confused myself, so I hope it made some sense to you. Good luck with your skating, sorry if you have any Maths exams coming up.
i think the best exercise for having a control over the board and learning the mechanics is a tiktak. You want to be able to ride without pushing, doing bigger turnovers, even 360s ; while learning that part, notice how important your shoulders are. They are always leading your direction of moving. That's a big intro to all of the 180, 360 ollies, to freestyle, street or transition skating.
this is awesome! ollie’s take so long it took me like a year and a half to get to even semi functional ollie’s. I recommend trying to learn no comply 180s and half cabs. U can do them without good ollie’s and they’re really good for getting used to spinning a little
i just returned from a social media break and i saw you also returned!!! i am so tempted to start rollerskating because of you and fought the urge for more than 1.5 years already but i feel like it might happen soon, while taking your vids as motivation again for sure!!!
It's really cool to see you trying your best and get results One little tip for you: try not to have your body facing forward when rolling, and keep your feet parallel (when not attempting a trick) it should help you balance
Great progress, keep up the work! your shove-its are almost there, its gonna feel amazing once u land it. i would also recommend you Boneless. its was my go to trick to jump before i learned Ollies. Also, try some Ollie Pick Ups. Rocket Ollies are perfect for that, and its a super cool and casual way to pick up your board.
Keep digging deep, laugh of "faliures", try agin, try again, try again & most important of all keep having fun with it ! You're doing great and skating sometimes feels unforgiveingly hard, but that's why it's great. I can recomend learning the trick "Caveman" to. You already kinda done it. it's a good beginner trick that feels great and looks cool aswell. As you progress it still feels great to do imo. Jump of a curb, jump of a planter, jump of a dumbster, jump down a couple of stairs, maybe one day jump of a building :)
I really love your videos! I discovered ur channel from the video Ricky Glaser did reacting to ur videos because I was looking into getting a skateboard (and wanted to like see a beginner lol). My birthday’s coming up in a week so I’m prolly gonna get a skateboard! I’ve been rollerblading for about 2 years and rollerskating for almost a year now so hopefully I can transfer some skills 😅.
23 years ago my friends and I went everywhere on our boards. I wasn't ever great. Life came in I had kids, and I stopped skating. About a month ago my 15 year old daughter told me she wants to learn how to skate. So I went out bought her a board, then realized how much I missed it and how much has changed holy shit. Anyways stick with it you're doing awesome.
Great video and great progress! Definitely need to dust off my board again aswell... Used to skate nearly daily for like 8-10yrs, but due to talent somewhere in the negative, i never moved far beyond pop-shuvits and ollies. One thing i saw though that you could work on is your positioning of the front foot. If you keep your front foot in riding direction, you automatically twist your hip and upper body. This ultimately makes it harder later on when you start doing kickflips etc. while riding. So i would recommend getting comfortable twisting your front foot 90° and only have it in riding direction when pushing... Only downside of this is, that the shoe budget suddenly needs to get bigger - most shoe changes i made while skating was because the sole (and some times the sock) was sanded through from doing it right underneath the ball of the foot. ^^
There is no better feeling than a correctly executed skate trick. You feel the click, hear the pop, the board goes exactly where you want it to go, it is akin to magic. Doesn't matter what the trick is, instant serotonins. You should work on more no ollie tricks like your shove its. You're on the right track with those. Your ollie is looking good too though. Throw in front shoves too. Kinda the same trick but push forward with your back foot instead of scooping backward. Some people think front shove is easier, some people think shove it is easier. No Comply 180 is a fun one too. Once you get your pop going good for your ollies, throw pop into you shove its for pop shove its and pop front shoves. You can also work on front side and backside 180's, even nose stalls on the curb (help get ready for nose slides). You are more than good enough for any of these tricks. You're killing it! Skating is just like anything else in this world, just keep doing it, haha. Being a "Skater" is not about the tricks you know, it's about not giving up. Don't worry about where you going, just have fun getting there!!!
Thanks to Ricky and everyone that has come from his videos to help me >:D New update coming soon!!!!!
You should go to a skatepark. It’s way more fun to ride down a ramp. Also gets you comfortable with high speeds on the skateboard.

You want to be able to ride without pushing, doing bigger turnovers, even 360s ; while learning that part, notice how important your shoulders are. They are always leading your direction of moving. That's a big intro to all of the 180, 360 ollies, to freestyle, street or transition skating.
Keep on it! Skating takes time. Just came back here from Ricky reacting to this video. Keep on working on it!
'I was not having a menty-B' Im crying, top tier humor, haha
this is awesome! ollie’s take so long it took me like a year and a half to get to even semi functional ollie’s.
This is wicked! Welcome back dude, keep ya head up!! Sick skating! :D
Omg been waiting for this!! Happy to see ur back:)
And yes an Ollie progress vid would be cool
i love hegla more than my own mother thanks for the awesome video and premier 😮
OH MY GOD OK!!! thats v v sweet though I'm expecting a mothers day card soon
@@HeglaUA-cam uh uh uh uh
i’m broke
Pls post more.. we're waiting... you're such a Vibes 💗💗
As a beginner skater, you give me hope! ❤
welcome back! happy to see you didnt die
It's really cool to see you trying your best and get results
One little tip for you: try not to have your body facing forward when rolling, and keep your feet parallel (when not attempting a trick) it should help you balance
i was literally watching your first skateboarding video again yesterday!!!
I really enjoy the content. I really like your personality
Still skating? Watched Ricky’s reaction to this video.
let's gooo! Very nice! Try to do a small manual off the curb. It feels a lot easier than just riding off without one! Keep it up☺️
Great progress, keep up the work! your shove-its are almost there, its gonna feel amazing once u land it. i would also recommend you Boneless. its was my go to trick to jump before i learned Ollies. Also, try some Ollie Pick Ups. Rocket Ollies are perfect for that, and its a super cool and casual way to pick up your board.
SHES BACKKKKKKKK HEYYYYYYY!!!!!
01:27 did u hit yoself with yo own hands haha, i like the editingm keep it up
No 🫣 you’d never catch me doing something silly like tha
@@HeglaUA-cam hahaha yee righ
Keep digging deep, laugh of "faliures", try agin, try again, try again & most important of all keep having fun with it ! You're doing great and skating sometimes feels unforgiveingly hard, but that's why it's great. I can recomend learning the trick "Caveman" to. You already kinda done it. it's a good beginner trick that feels great and looks cool aswell. As you progress it still feels great to do imo. Jump of a curb, jump of a planter, jump of a dumbster, jump down a couple of stairs, maybe one day jump of a building :)
Skate é questão de persistência
Nice job Hegla!!! Keep at it kid love the videos!!!
Hell yeah she's back
23 years ago my friends and I went everywhere on our boards. I wasn't ever great. Life came in I had kids, and I stopped skating. About a month ago my 15 year old daughter told me she wants to learn how to skate. So I went out bought her a board, then realized how much I missed it and how much has changed holy shit. Anyways stick with it you're doing awesome.
OI! Finally my UA-cam did its job. I've been trying to find your channel in my subs list. Yaaay I can Bing watch you now!
i love your videos, thank you💜 makes me want to pick up my skateboard and try again...even though im really bad at it haha cheers from brazil :D
Crazy editing. Man it makes so much of a difference. Well done great vid
I'm another Ricky cultist, keep it up and you'll be a skate goddess in no time! 😅
I got my first roller skates today and I learned balancing and roller skates in an hour
Dope video, skating is about commitment no matter how many times you fall you gotta keep going, GoodLuck :)
We missed your videos! Please bring back your shop videos as well 😊😊
Keep it pushing... Ur doing grate 🎉
Great work, you are definitely ready for learning shove it or pop shove it.
Keep going, you r improving so well!!
