Hi Max! Good for you to recognize you needed to make a change -- you're no good to anyone if your mental health is in the tank. I think I can speak for us all when I say you have our full support, and I'll do what I can personally to help. I have a feeling this change will really release the creative juices, and you'll have great success going forward. And, hey, everyone: Don't forget the 'Thanks' button if you want to do a one-off! All the best to you and your family, Max! 😀
Be strong Matt, family and mental health should always come first! I'm glad the "I Quit" wasn't to do with youtube. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming!
Hey Matt, I know we've had this chat before, but you worried me with that thumbnail man! All the very, very best to you and your family Matt, and I hope we'll catch up very soon.

Well done Matt!! I'm in the same position, I left my job 6 weeks ago for the sake of my mental health and family; I've spent the last 14 months working 60+ hours a week and being on call and available for 90-100 hours per week. I was totally burnt out and I'm still recovering but I've just took the first steps to becoming a self employed driving instructor. I've taken a leap of faith like yourself but I'm confident it's exactly the right thing for me and my family. Never know, I may be able to get back to my models at some point! Modelling and videos, like these, are how i deal with my mental state. I can't help anyone finacially. I understand your dilema. Hope everything works out for you, love your journal. I have a hundred small scattered notes everywhere. I particularly record painting colours used on each model. This aids with consistancy. You will settle, and your state of mind will settle with it. Having a family adds to anxiety. Everything mounts up. One thing at a time, prioritise. Hope you and your family remain safe and healthy.
Hi Matt, I agree with you that health and family comes first and totally respect your decision and will help support you in any way as I do already. I love your videos tips and advice I see you put out and find them very helpful. So keep your chin up and all the best in whichever way you go 👍

Hi Matt, Sorry to hear what you have been going through over the past year. Having had periods of mental health problems, there's always something has to give if it's causing problems. Wishing you well with your next future steps and hope to see you soon Gary
Hi Matt, sending you all the best for the future. I made a similar decision last year following a set of changes too far at work, one of which would have meant nonsensical commuting. Just popped over to Amazon for a purchase from your store.
Totally understand. I work one full time job, but it is on two different shifts, the swing or second shift and the graveyard or third shift. My sense of time can really be off as I don't get the rest I need which puts my mind in a cloud of confusion at times. Before I put time on the bench, I take care of my other responsibilities and that has taken away my time and desire to work on my models. Life sucks at times, and the end result is what should be a fun and relaxing time becomes just another task to complete. Anyways, recognizing limitations and prioritizing what is important for your mental health is number one. Good luck in finding your way, so many of us are in the same boat, and if you can do it, so can we.
My lord I almost fainted when I saw the title, I hope everything sorts it self out and you can find a way to sort your hental health and continue making content!
I gave up work years ago . Couldn't handle stuff anymore . Early mornings 5am . 6 days a week working For years . Walked away from everything. Just enjoy your life . 👍
Good to you. You need that strength to say No when it comes. I hope you will get some good out of it. Best wishes to you and your family. Looking forward to your next video.
Good on ya Matt! 5 years ago I quit a 6 figure job with a large engineering company (lots of travel and late nights in the office) to start my own business so that I could work part time and spend more time with my family. It's one of the scariest things I've ever done but it's totally worth it to pursue your own happiness! There's no point in having hobbies and a family and all that other stuff that your job pays for if you don't have the time or the mental wellness to enjoy those things. Take some time to look after yourself, people don't put enough importance on mental self care, it takes a long time to recover from burnout and the like. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of you on the workbench soon!
Big changes Mate!! The struggle being self employed is real.. my own advice jumping into that world is remain focused on the prize! And get a good accountant.. good luck my friend
hello Matt, I am very sorry to hear that, I hope that your mental health gets better, YOU matter more than anything out there and remember, we are all here for you. Stay safe and get well😊😊😊
Good luck m8, I've been in the limbo for a couple years now, since my eyesight prohibited from doing my former job (traindriver), I still got a fulltime job at the railway company but at way lower wage, lost my car and as a result, all the models I (try to) build, are models that have been in my stash for years.... so, sorry but at the moment I can't buy your books either...
Can only echo what everyone else has said. The hardest step is admitting to yourself that all is not well. Making the changes that help is another big step but both can be like lifting the weight off your shoulders and hopefully will be the start of a new journey.
Nothing worse than a job that demands too much and if you don't already do, you will end up hating. Hopefully you'll get another job soon that allows you at least more family time! Best wishes to you and yours Matt! 💪🤞👍👍
Fair play to you Matt! Can't stress how important mental health is, so glad to see you making a stand. Also, I've enjoyed and learned so much from your channel so extremely happy that it will be continuing.
Sometimes, you just have to roll the dice in life, ditch the things that make you less than you could be, and have the courage to make changes when things are just not working. I took that decision a couple of years back when I was offered redundancy. It was scary. I took a job that was closer to home, paid less, but came with less stress. No more laptops at home, e-mails at night, checking e-mails before going to work, checking e-mails sat on the toilet or in the bath.....and being expected to be available, any time, any place. Hope the new direction works out, and the channel lets you live the way you want.
A healthy work/life balance is so, soo important and I'm glad you've decided to take action to fix an unhealthy one. One of my personal red-lines is when I go home, I do not do any work and I feel that helps me keep something of a decent balance.
Good for you. I quit 18 months ago and never looked back. I had the same issues my health was suffering and the demands from the company were getting increasingly unreasonable. Way to go 👏 👏
as someone who is currently struggling with mental health, I can completely understand what you are going through Matt. We all understand and are hoping your mental health improves.
Big decision! From model minutes to model hours in one sweep. Good luck with your health, family and future plans 😊 I work 58% and at 65, that's enough thankyou very much 🤪
The pushed I needed to change my life was when my wife and son was talking about holidays when we were having dinner. My son said "I remember going to they New Forest with Gran and Grandad when they had a caravan". I said "I don't remember those holidays" and the the wife said "No, you won't. You were always working". Thats when I decided my life need a change and I took it. Work, life balance is so important these days. Jobs seem to be either dead end or endless deadlines and that is no good for anyone. I am lucky enough to be able to do it even it does mean I have less disposable income but my mental health is better for it.
I can relate to this, always missing birthdays and family events. Having to constantly “catch up” on things that were going on… I hope I can find some kind of balance moving forwards
Little late to this one but I hope things have been working on for you since Matt!😁 Thanks for making this video and of course all your other fantastic ones! I feel I’ve been facing similar stress around work and wanting to put my energy into growing my channel but not being broke, so seeing you talking about it and working through it is very inspiring mate! -Luca
Hi! I did have to take another job but at the moment it has less stress than my previous one. Sadly, whilst i would have liked to do content creation full-time it doesn't pay the bills - not at the moment at least. Hang in there, there are always new opportunities around the corner!
@@ModelMinutes Ah well, swings and roundabouts I guess, doing a great job to juggle that and get a video out pretty much each week! One day mate🤞 Thanks Mat, same to you, and happy modeling! :)
I know what you mean with family, job, hobby, etc. I'm relatively new on UA-cam but I built models since I was 8 years old (with a 10 years break) it's sometimes a lot of stress with the job and family... Sometimes I have no energy to work on the bench, even it's a great hobby. So always health is in first place and I wish you all the best for the future! Btw I'm far away to get some money from UA-cam, but maybe sometime it's possible. I don't think it's enough to pay all the bills, it's like a little bonus to me. This hobby needs way more attention...
Hey Matt, tough choices and the unknown can be scary, but making that leap is the hardest part, you are doing what is best for you and your family thats the important bit, fair play to you. I,m sort of undertaking a similar move, albeit not a UA-cam type move but a similar leap that will progress over time, but hopefully help me and my nearest and dearest. I wish I had made the decision earlier in life, but better late than never. The outcome is never certain, but we can make our luck in life and to do that we have to make that leap. You have many supporters and like many I found you during those days of lock down and you gave us all something to look forward to during those days, patiently awaiting your next upload, as we all still do to this day. I and many others will support you however we can, and we all wish you and your family the very best for the future.
As coincidence would have it, I opted to resign from my retail job just under a week ago, chiefly due to mounting stress. Though not how I'd planned to move on from my employer of the last several years, I'd have only burnt myself out by staying there any longer. Fingers crossed re' finding a better arrangement 🙂
Really looking forward to where this takes you! I got into the hobby only a few months ago (previously with Warhammer) and your content has been the best I've seen.
I left my career because of the damage it was doing to my MH. I am now married, happier, maybe not as well off in ££££ but better off in all the ways that matter.
Hey Matt, good on you for making a change beneficial to your mental health. Family and mental health come first, very glad that it wasn't you quitting UA-cam. Thank you for all your videos and hope it turns out great!
Hi Matt, congratulations for making this very brave decision, as others have said your mental health is way more important, than having to worry about your job, I will be handing my resignation in, in about two weeks, but the my decision is due to retirement, andveven that scares me a little, take care and be happy enjoy this new 'freedom', very best regards to you and your family from a Kiwi living in Australia 👌👍👌👍👌👍
Hi! I think on the whole things are a little better - whilst I still have had to find a job to pay the bills (sadly UA-cam still only pays enough to cover the expenses associated with running the channel) I still have to find time to balance between all my commitments. The positive aspects are that I have more time at home and less time being away, and whilst I do have to be away at times I'm compensated for it much more - which certainly helps (I would not have considered my current role had they not been so generous). I also have a more predictable life and don't have to worry about being "on call" at weekends or doing surprise night shifts etc, which allows more flexibility and ability to make plans that I can actually commit to. On the whole it is a positive change, but this current role is only temporary due to the nature of the project I'm employed in - so i will have to look for another suitable job again in the future, fingers crossed! Thanks for asking! Hope things are well for you :)
@ModelMinutes hello Matt! Well I'm glad things are going better for you! Even if it's just a temporary job it sounds like it's better than your old one. 👍 It also sounds like it was meant to be too. I know what it's like having to be on call too! At my old job (and I don't miss that place!) For quite a while you had to be on call. It was a first shift position but you could get a call at any time of night and had to wake up often in the middle of the night to address technical problems that could happen at our other plants. Nothing worse than getting a call in the middle of the night while you were sleeping and then have to try and fix things. And hoping it didn't take too long and that they would be okay and you would still be able to fall back asleep before having to wake up in the morning arrrghh! Hated it! But thank you for replying and i'm glad to hear things are going better for you! At the moment doing pretty good thanks for asking 🙂
Hi Matt, although it might be a little scary right now, it definitely feels to me like you've made the right decision to leave that job, well done!! Their loss will certainly be your families, and our, gain. Keep on looking after yourself and look forward to seeing you make a bit of a dent in your stash when you're feeling like it.
Good luck. Mental health is now a reality that should always be a factor in anyones work life and decisions. It pleasing to hear that you have a backup plan and talk about getting another job like its no big deal. So many people complain boohoo I can't get a job, bullshit. My working life has taken a massive back seat to my mental health recovery and I am able to keep my head above water, lucky me. Life will find a way to work itself out. Don't panic. Your video content will now become focused and therefore generate more income. I'm sure it will all work out for you. Stick to your goals. Looking forward to future content.
Had my heart in my mouth Matt.. I'm sorry about your job loss and the results it led to, but family and fans come first.. To be honest mate, modern employers do push you to the extent that it collapses you mentally and that also regards health.. I had to leave my last employer due to the same reasons and I've been doing voluntary stuff since.. Take care mate..
Thanks for the update Matt. Sorry that you have had to quit your job. But it sounds like it was the best decision for you. Sadly these days, if you want to earn any sort of living off of UA-cam ad revenue, then you have to create tons of content. One video a day, that sort of thing. So, maybe some sort of part time job could be an option. Have you thought about driving jobs? I am a HGV driver, and for the past 8 years or more, I have been working for an agency. I am just over 5 years away from retirement, so I have been scaling down my hours that I work. These days, I mostly only work 3 days a week. But the money is still decent, so I can still pay the bills even when working less. I do have an Armed Forces Pension as a 2nd income. But it is not enough to live on entirely. So, I will need that State Pension when I can get it. The good thing about agency work for driving, is that you can choose how many days you want to work. Plus you can have holidays when you want. These days you get holiday and statuary sick pay too. Anyway, its something to think about. I hope things work out for you in the future. Best wishes mate.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm not sure driving is quite the right fit for me, don't really like being on the road these days and would try to avoid it if i can, i am considering some kind of job to keep things going though so will have to see where my cards land
Congratulations on yanking the big yellow handle and banging out of the rat race. Gainful employment is overrated 😁 I got a copy of your journal, it's very well thought out and definitely recommended. Might be useful to do a dedicated video on all three so people know what they're getting 😉 Best of luck, Matt, and keep your nerve - after a while you'll be kicking yourself for not quitting sooner 😅
Thanks! yes, I'm very much in free-fall at the moment lol! I'm glad you like the book! I was thinking about doing a video to spotlight them, but at the moment didn't have time . . for now
No one on there death bed thought I wish I spent more time at the office ,yes we all have to pay the bills but if you can do a bit of somthing that you can enjoy do it
Well.......sometimes you have to take a step back and change life to make it more liveable. Good luck with that. Just a thought......there are lots of us who don't have a 3d printer, but would benefit from 3d printed accessories. I'm thinking here about simple things like window frames, factory pipework, valves, corrugated roof parts.....Why not see if there is any interest in people buying items like this.......they buy and you print. Not sure how much interest there would be for this, but might be worth putting the idea out to your subscribers.
Can you take a part time job and run your channel?? I'm having to do the same or similar and prioritize family and work. You'll figure out what you'll need to do but include your wife in the decision making; wives have good ideas 💡 and can be ultra supportive. All the best for whatever you decide to do.
Thanks! It’s possible I could go part time but it will have to balance things out, otherwise I’ll have to get a full time job again but hopefully something close to home that doesn’t destroy my health 😅
@@ModelMinutes well Matt you have a dilemma and I'm sure you will overcome any obstacles. Take your time and consider all of your options. Your wife's input will help I'm sure and your children can be intuitive too. 🎃
Congratulations on making what is a bold decision for the better, although the thumbnail was a little disconcerting at first...! I've spent a long time travelling the world for work and there comes a time to say stop. Wishing you good fortune on your journey.
Serious questions... Who is paying the bills now? You say you have a family. Does your wife work? Have you discussed it with her? Is she ok with being the bread winner? Would it have made sense to sort out a part time job with less stress before you quit your present one? I am only asking these because its easy to think the grass will be greener then suddenly finding your income has halved or disappeared completely with the bills still coming in.
These are all valid concerns, but my video and decision hasn’t just been “on a whim”. I actually gave 12 months notice to leave at work and have been discussing changing jobs with my family since this time last year, so they are very much part of the decision 😊

Hopefully I can follow your example! Thanks so much 😊
Big changes Mate!! The struggle being self employed is real.. my own advice jumping into that world is remain focused on the prize! And get a good accountant.. good luck my friend
Lol definitely 😂
Good luck mate, you have made the right decision, hoping things really take off for you.
Thanks very much 😊
hello Matt, I am very sorry to hear that, I hope that your mental health gets better, YOU matter more than anything out there and remember, we are all here for you. Stay safe and get well😊😊😊
Thanks so much!
Will be purchasing those books Matt keep positive, mate, always love watching model minutes
Awesome, thank you!
Good for u dont look back just move fwrd it will work out! Keep up good work!
Thanks so much!
No worries, I hope things go ok for you too 😊
Can only echo what everyone else has said. The hardest step is admitting to yourself that all is not well. Making the changes that help is another big step but both can be like lifting the weight off your shoulders and hopefully will be the start of a new journey.
Yes! It took a while for me to realise that I needed a change
Nothing worse than a job that demands too much and if you don't already do, you will end up hating.
Hopefully you'll get another job soon that allows you at least more family time! Best wishes to you and yours Matt! 💪🤞👍👍
I hope so too, thanks for supporting me!
Fair play to you Matt!
Can't stress how important mental health is, so glad to see you making a stand. Also, I've enjoyed and learned so much from your channel so extremely happy that it will be continuing.
Thanks! Yea, I find modelling to be a good therapy for my mental health… my job not so much 😂
Hope everything works out for you good luck
Thanks so much 😊
Good luck Matt. Your health is far more important than any job.
Thanks! :)
That sounds a lot like the job I just left! Hopefully I can find some kind of balance now
A healthy work/life balance is so, soo important and I'm glad you've decided to take action to fix an unhealthy one.
One of my personal red-lines is when I go home, I do not do any work and I feel that helps me keep something of a decent balance.
This is very true, I hate taking work home with me
Best of luck to you.
Thanks 🙏
Best wishes for your future. I hope everything works out for you.
Fingers crossed! Thanks 😊
Hey Matt what a fantastic, honest raw video, good for you - your family and health are your priority, take care buddy, regards Liam
Thanks 😊
good luck for the future man , you got me into model making and it made me happier tbh finding smmt new to do , idk if u remember me from a while ago
I’m glad I could help inspire you with the hobby 😊
Good for you. I quit 18 months ago and never looked back. I had the same issues my health was suffering and the demands from the company were getting increasingly unreasonable. Way to go 👏 👏
Glad you had the chance to change 😊
as someone who is currently struggling with mental health, I can completely understand what you are going through Matt. We all understand and are hoping your mental health improves.
Thanks very much! Hope things improve for you too :)
@@ModelMinutesthanks
Good luck Matt. It'll be the right decision if it's putting you and your loved ones first. Do what's best for you.
Thanks! I hope I can get a good balance 😊
you are the creator, we are just watching :) take some time off if you need to
Thanks!
"slightly click-baity," 😂 - good for you Matt. Health comes first, always.
😅 yeah, I think it’s a truthful title though 😂 thanks! I’m hoping that I can figure out what I’ll be doing in a few months
Cool, good luck with it! Let me know if you need anything and don't be a stranger brooo 🧐
@@Swayeee will do 🫡
You're very good with your modelling skills. I have a CORGI model of the Red Arrow Aeroplane. Could you create one AIRFIX style?
I do have a hawk (or maybe a gnat) in red arrows livery in the stash somewhere…
Big decision! From model minutes to model hours in one sweep. Good luck with your health, family and future plans 😊
I work 58% and at 65, that's enough thankyou very much 🤪
Thanks! I'm not sure what I'm going to end up doing at the moment, but will figure something out
@@ModelMinutesIt's the key: you have given yourself the opportunity of choice - which was harder, before 🤗
The pushed I needed to change my life was when my wife and son was talking about holidays when we were having dinner.
Having to constantly “catch up” on things that were going on…
I hope I can find some kind of balance moving forwards
Little late to this one but I hope things have been working on for you since Matt!😁
Thanks for making this video and of course all your other fantastic ones!
One day mate🤞
Thanks Mat, same to you, and happy modeling! :)
ive only just got back into modeling after 18 ish years lol and trying to re kickstart my youtube :D weve all been there
I know what you mean with family, job, hobby, etc.
Thanks! Yes, earning money on YT is quite difficult
All the best Matt. You've made the right move. Your health is the priority. 👍
Thanks! I hope I can get everything sorted 😊
if you don't mind me asking what kind of job was it ?
I was working in aviation
Thanks very much, I hope things work out for you too! Greatly appreciate the donation, I hope I can continue to make content that you enjoy 😊
Good luck!
@@ModelMinutes Likewise fellow modeller 🤞🙂👍
Really looking forward to where this takes you! I got into the hobby only a few months ago (previously with Warhammer) and your content has been the best I've seen.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoy my videos 😊
im glad that you have taken your mental health unto account!
Yeah, it was time I listened to my own head instead of doing what I thought everyone else wanted me to do
@@ModelMinutes That can be very difficult Matt. Speaking for the entire ModelMinutes community by saying 'Well done Matt'
@@Hashbrownsandsausages thanks 😊
Look after yourself and your family. Nothing else matters!

Good luck best wishes
Thanks!
I left my career because of the damage it was doing to my MH. I am now married, happier, maybe not as well off in ££££ but better off in all the ways that matter.
Yeah, that’s my hope too! Glad things got better for you 😊
Hey Matt, good on you for making a change beneficial to your mental health. Family and mental health come first, very glad that it wasn't you quitting UA-cam. Thank you for all your videos and hope it turns out great!
Thanks so much for the kind words and support 😊
You can only stretch yourself only so thin. Family is always the most important.
Yes, that is very true!
Good luck with your retirement! I’m looking forward to mine… one day 😅
Hi Matt sorry to hear about the stresses of your former job! How are you doing 6 months later?
Cheers from the US!
It also sounds like it was meant to be too.
At the moment doing pretty good thanks for asking 🙂
most of us know what bad mental health is like so take your time and were all here when your ready
Thanks 🙏
Hi Matt, although it might be a little scary right now, it definitely feels to me like you've made the right decision to leave that job, well done!! Their loss will certainly be your families, and our, gain. Keep on looking after yourself and look forward to seeing you make a bit of a dent in your stash when you're feeling like it.
Well said! I really hope I can get through more of the stash over the next year or so 😅
Sorry to hear of your situation, I work abroad a lot too, w which industry are you in,
Best wisjes,
John
I was working in aviation, it took me away from home far too much lol, hopefully now I can find something a bit slower paced
Thanks 😊 I’m quite realistic that I need to find somewhere for the money to support the family comes from
Take it easy. Relax and take care of what really matters.
Thanks! I'll try!
Thanks! You too! It can be a real struggle when jobs become overly demanding
Gainful employment is overrated 😁
I got a copy of your journal, it's very well thought out and definitely recommended. Might be useful to do a dedicated video on all three so people know what they're getting 😉
Best of luck, Matt, and keep your nerve - after a while you'll be kicking yourself for not quitting sooner 😅
Thanks! yes, I'm very much in free-fall at the moment lol!
I'm glad you like the book! I was thinking about doing a video to spotlight them, but at the moment didn't have time . . for now
No one on there death bed thought I wish I spent more time at the office ,yes we all have to pay the bills but if you can do a bit of somthing that you can enjoy do it
I agree! I’m not going to wish I’d worked more 😂
Well.......sometimes you have to take a step back and change life to make it more liveable.
Yeah i considered selling prints, but that is quite an involved process and I'm not sure i really want to have deal with that lol
You go @model minutes ! Big step best of luck for the future.
Thanks dude 😊
all the best mate
thanks :)
Give it a go for 6-12 months and see how it goes. Some of my best decisions in life were because I "took a chance". Good luck mate!
Yeah, I think I’ll be taking a few chances and seeing how they go
ask to go 4 days a week, or 3 ...
Sadly that wouldn’t have done much to reduce travelling, and the salary sacrifice would have not been worth my time
Can you take a part time job and run your channel??
@@9501599 oh yes, she’s the real boss 😂
Congratulations on making what is a bold decision for the better, although the thumbnail was a little disconcerting at first...! I've spent a long time travelling the world for work and there comes a time to say stop. Wishing you good fortune on your journey.
Thanks so much! Yes, I did ask for some opinions on the video on discord before I released it and everyone said it was ok 😂
I give a flying fu** and keep on dancing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 all the best!
Haha thanks 😊
you had me there mate... grrrrr
😂 maybe next time
instead getting self-employed really take times to get used to .. mentally and physically.
Yeah, i'm still not sure what I'm going to do but I have a little time to figure it out
Serious questions...
