Few thoughts: 1. Go with smaller models so you can bang out the videos quicker, like 30-60 pt range tanks and planes. We're mostly here for the quippy dialogue and your painting abilities. 2. Save the big ships for your 4 month releases and do them as you go for what appears to be your own showing off of your abilities. 3. Your own voice is fine but unless you're not getting monetized over the other voice I'd stick with it as the majority of the videos are that one. Plus the lines seem funnier coming from a very adult sounding guy who you're not expecting to ramble on about wanting to further his craft then ask for us to add breadsticks to his order. Youthful voice I expect hot takes, it's just less funny. Your schtick is that you're a great modeler but we're not watching you for tips so much as smart-ass remarks, lesser easier models will allow you higher output and we don't expect those to look amazing anyways. Just my two cents. I can go watch Gunther paint 1/72 US airborne men, which are essentially army men toys, and paint them to such a level I wonder how is more insane: him for putting that much effort in or me for watching him. In the same breath I watched some Brit take a starter kit and make the model look amazing using what they gave him which really made me question ever getting an airbrush. Those guys exist already and your niche is being the smart ass of the group.
@@failtolawl Who cares about authentic? He's named boxman already? To me the jokes hit better from the more adult and serious sounding AI than the youthful real voice which I expect to have spicy takes.
Anecdote. For myself, i was drawn to your vids for their simplicity, humor, and your skill as a model maker. If your original videos were easy to make, then i would suggest keep making em. I love all your content. Dont fall victim to scope creep and stress yourself out. You make great stuff anyway!
While your actual voice is not bad or anything, I also prefer the ai voice. The jokes where really funny in the old and slower voice. Every time I hear this voice in other stuff, I think of boxman.
Keeping the AI voices around as background characters is a good idea honestly. Also I do hope the content shift you mentions doesn't mean the complete end of the scale modeling videos.
It's not against your voice, but I really loved the AI voice, it had a psychopathic tone that I enjoyed. Anyway, it’s a nice build and a great idea! Keep up the good work! :)
Really brave to move beyond the AI voice, as it definitely was something a lot of people liked, but as a creator, you know what's best for you channel. So have confidence in your choice and keep pushing on! Video was great as always, and looking forward to more in the future!
Fun fact, but Ocean Liner Design in his video Titanic's Propeller Mystery points out the Titanic very likely had three, triple propellers. What official documentation that remains states the center screw was to be a three blade prop propeller. The photograph often used to prove it had a quad prop was actually of the Olympic like most 'Titanic' images often are, ie not of the Titanic itself. The Olympic set sail with a 4 blade propeller, but the Titanic was to have a 3rd 3 prop propeller as a "test" you can say. They eventually outfitted the Olympic with 3 triple blade propeller after it was refitted because well they never got to get that Titanic test data you can say. They eventually realized the 3rd center prop was definitely best as a quad blade. So ironically most models of the Titanic are likely wrong because they use the Olympic 2 triple and 1 quad propeller when the Titanic should have three triple propellers.
2:26 I love how the Revell kit starts shaking after seeing the other kits getting brutally murdered, while the Hobby Boss kit just sits thrre like "Damn."
I really enjoy your channel after I ran into it a few months ago. To provide some personal feedback, initially I was put off at the start of the video a bit by the lack of your last AI voice, as it was pretty much pitch perfect in its nonchalant, brazen dictation. I thought your own recording did okay, and grew a bit on me as the video progressed, but I still think part of what I enjoyed from the AI voice was just that it was so clear and confident in its ridiculousness, like it didn't give its own damn about what was being said. Your recording was a bit, muffled and mumbbly in comparison and lacked the overall vocal range in enunciation of the other. It's not bad but I think you could improve it. You might want to experiment recording with more clarity and verbosity even if it causes your soul to partially die inside, at least this is what I force myself to do with my videos. Also there was some overall imbalance in certain parts of the recording where it was a significantly quieter than others. Some programs will automate this balancing. Also, I'm gonna be that dickhole and say the Titanic's central screw was almost surely three blades and not four like your model contains. If Revell only gave you a four prop blade you should ask them for a full refund and demand an personal apology for this historical atrocity.
That is some great feedback! i certainly agree about the a.i voice being perfect for it's confident ridiculousness that matches perfectly with the witty writing.
It's lovely to hear your actual voice! The AI voice was fun but you have a relaxing tone that makes the building fun. Though do keep the AI for your fun segments!
Boxman, thank you. Your videos have given me some of the most positive comments and enjoyable moments I have ever had watching model building. I love how you work your magic to build a perfect symmetry between comedy and model building. I do not mind waiting, so long as you take care of yourself and don’t burn yourself out. Your videos are some of my absolute favorite of all time, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds. Thank you again & Take care of yourself
The deadpan, flat, over masculine voice delivering unexpectedly hilarious remarks with that off rhythm delivery, over the really upbeat backing tracks, was absolutely what made this channel unique and incredibly joyful for someone who is not a modeller to watch. I have never and am unlikely to ever watch other channel’s modelling content. But the magic combination you had created made these videos a delight. I hope you will consider returning to it.
I just discovered these videos and loving them! But I also really liked the older videos voice narration! As non-native English language speaker, I also find the old narration voice much clearer and easier to understand. And I had no idea it was AI generated, just thought Boxman really had that authoritative boss voice! Much respect and 100% support from Estonia
Dude I love that you've decided to do a voice over, your writing is great, but don't forget you've created a character and I feel that people have latched on to that character the ai voice was an integral part of it. But as always, do what you want to create Nice to see another build good stuff as usual
I’m happy to see your return, but i hope you will get to all the models in your stash with your smart ass commentary, it honestly the best part about watching your stuff, and you actually make the building process entertaining to watch , I personally am a psycho path and am going to be building a 1:450th scale hasegawa yomumto and painting most of it by hand with only one small brush and tamaya paint without any thinners because it accidentally ate my airbrush budget for the next few months, I have no idea what I’m doing I’m just building and trying to be happy with my work and improving without thinking hard

I am really impressed by how well that sinking mechanism lever contraption turned out to work! Slowed down 50% you can see it approaches a "real" sinking really quite well, which is super cool to see. Regarding your ending comments - man, all videos you've been making so far have been fun, the starting ones and the current ones. If you feel a production needs extra work, sure, but the "weekend version" works well for me to be honest! I'll be watching in any case!
Great job with getting the sinking to work so well! Very impressive. If you do decide to take the model out to the YMCA for a public sinking be sure to bring a 20lb bag of ice. Also consider bringing a large cup of ice from various fast food establishments and insist that you've found the correct ratio of the various types of ice they offer to properly recreate the ice conditions of the North Atlantic. I actually recently did the same thing to my 1/570 Revell model. This project had been worked on for quite a long time, and I mostly tried using the "magnet and friction mechanism" (this is when the two halves are held together loosely by magnets. The tabs that keep the ship together at the same list provide friction, which helps let the model got to a particular angle). This obviously didn't go as planned, so I did what you did, except I used more simple materials, which included straws, nails, paperclips, and styrofoam. I also used metal plates and clay to ballast the ship instead of coins, which is why most of the hull remains submerged and the propellers never surface before the final plunge, though it's not as bad as the replicas made by ThePrintHive and TheRoller3d (the hulls on those models are so submerged that at some angles of view, it looks as if the only thing that isn't underwater is the funnels and masts). However, unlike this, I did the cut between the 2nd and 3rd funnels (since I was aiming for the 2012 National Geographic animation, not the 1997 movie). I also realized too late that I didn't cut the ship properly (as I did a completely straight cut, rather than the angled one the submersible models did). Instead of using a bulkhead as the pivot of the hinge, I put nails from opposite open portholes and used it to keep the mechanism in place. Some rigging was added as well, like the real ship. The upper decks are also removable and held to the ship by Legos, which can serve as a cap if I ever want to demonstrate the mechanism to other people. Overall, a pretty extensive project, and it was also inspired by other UA-cam channels that make splitting Titanic models such as "Titanic: Revisitng History" and "The Friendly Viking" (both that seem somewhat dead, though).
The weathering on the paint and the way the ship is painted as a whole could actually look like the RMS Olympic still in-service.
