That's exactly what I was thinking. The concertina is a bit of fringe instrument in trad. Popular in Clare maybe. I've never heard it played like this. You get the odd fella playing trad mouth organ, but this is a different level. This fella is literally writing the rule book.
Just extraordinary. Seen many skilful almost sublime people in my life playing sports, instruments, singing or even mastercraftsmen with just nothing less than a gift. Amazing.
I asked my wife how many other musicians were playing in the background. You can imagine my awe in her response. This is amazing 👏 🙌 Its even better when listened too on headphones...if that's possible !!
As Martin Banks says here, Cormac redefines the bass concertina. To hear him play this live a few years ago where he helped host our Canadian choir, Harmony Mountain Singers from North Vancouver was mind blowing and an incredible privilege.
Really class. Original, deep ,inventive ...........more than a tune, more like a powerful evocative story being told with such urgency and passion that you hang on every note . Spellbinding.
Ya...this is great music. I love the traditional aspect with some new twists such as some very low notes and strange sounds almost like it's electronic music...and of course a pounding rythem...Awesome!
Amazing! Anyone that's ever picked up a concertina and tried to squeeze out a song knows how hard it is to keep track of what tone coincides with the in & out of the bellows. I'd love to hear how many hours of practice went into this song.
I account for at least 100 of the views on this amazing video..breathtaking playing..there is almost a violence the way you play that brings the instrument and the tunes to a whole different level. This is genius. Thank you Cormac
Same here! This tune is so rocking, the acoustics are great in the abbey, and damn that bass concertina is so great at accompanying itself. Do I hear a quote of another tune around 2:20 as well?
I am a beginner concertina player and I watch Cormac over and over. Completely inspiring. Musicians like him keep instruments alive for following generations.
Nothing on this scale in the entire cosmos. Kidding! Nice, Compare and Contrast with the Chieftains. Great different interpretations but I must say Begley does this with his lonely concertina as if it's a whole orchestra.
Absolutly faboulos, Just left O 'Ridada's in Ballymac where your uncle Seamus and Sharonnn Shanonn were playing together, (P O'Keeffe Music festival) and the tallent that comes from your family is astounding. Mind you Sharonn was also brilliant along with some local and not sp local musissians that wanted to play with the famous DUO. Excellent!!. keep upi the good work especially on that Base Consotinia - excellent work, Most cant get but a fart from it.
Every now and again some young f***er comes along and redefines an instrument. Brilliant.
This the most Irish thing I’ve read all year.
That’s a funny and all too true observation. Thank you.

Brilliant comment for a brilliant vid! ☘️
Couldn’t of said it better😂 like another limb to this man.
I have never heard a concertina used in such a brilliant way before. I absolutely love his "percussive" use of the air button as well.
That’s just about the greatest piece of musical talent I’ve ever heard.
The man needs to come and play some folk festivals in Newfoundland. A couple of hundred thousand people would love him instantly.
Too true!
Not true. HE dont need...a lot of people do !
even the air button sounds great
Just extraordinary. Seen many skilful almost sublime people in my life playing sports, instruments, singing or even mastercraftsmen with just nothing less than a gift. Amazing.
If you could only hear this, youd think there were 3 people playing. Amazing
Wow , I’ve been learning the concertina for years , it’s a tricky little instrument , this is honestly mind blowing . Never seen anything like it !
I do not have the vocabulary to express how much I enjoy this.
I asked my wife how many other musicians were playing in the background.
You can imagine my awe in her response.
This is amazing 👏 🙌
Its even better when listened too on headphones...if that's possible !!

G'wan Begley...I never tire of this. Amazing
How does he do that? This just took my head off! *It's brilliant!*
