Im not a religious man, but if I were ever to come close it would be listening to this music. Its gotten me through breakups, trials and tribulations, it moves me so much I dont think I can listen without crying. This is what music is meant to do, truly put oneself into a different place. I cant explain it. Its like taking LSD. My mind is transported.
The Irish Times says it best, " we'll surely talk of having seen this man the way others talk of Miles Davis or Jim Hendrix or John Coltrane". Mind blowing player.
Rip Denis, one of my favorite guitarists. Nothing flash about what he does but plays perfect accompaniment to let others shine around him. A true musician
Dennis was nothing short of genius - it's almost as if what he didn't play was more important. There was a quote form The Police decades ago about leaving "holes" in their music, Dennis was that, sparing, brilliant.
Got lucky enough to have a class with Martin Hayes a few years ago... "practice and the technique will come" was what he told us. Simple advice, but it's funny sometimes how profound even the simplest reminders can be. Sometimes you need someone else to tell you that it's ok to let go of your fear of not being perfect and just DO things. I haven't forgotten it, and in fact it's advice that has enabled me to prepare to pursue a performance degree after taking an emotionally difficult break from playing for a few years. Truly a fantastic musician (as if that wasn't blatantly obvious already).
Its like your flying through a tunnel at high speed watching things whizz past at a mesmerizing speed then suddenly and finally you come out the other side and there's an explosion of light as the sun illuminates your face... the air... the light... the destination.
This music got me through studying for GCSES, A-Levels and now my degree. Praise the lord for The Gloaming and their insane talent (some may even say they make essay writing fun- now that is a gift)
Both sides of Martin's family are deeply steeped in music, back through the generations. He acknowledes , celebrates and elevates his ancestry and heritage, in his craft, his mastery, and his exciting experimentation on the extreme outer edges of a tradition fated to fade without his vital contribution.
The rest of us don’t feel the need to share our former job. The US navy has killed thousands of innocent people, it’s nothing to be proud of. Fucking yanks 😂
Superb group The Gloaming - bring new meaning to Irish trad. Martin Hayes is incredible and how he doesn't get that bow stuck in his hair is even more incredible!!
I was in a trance throughout the whole performance and in the final minute, body started to pulse and my eyes filled with tears. So incredibly moving, Thank you.
It's literally the Irish Spirit - the craic - in music form. It has everything our entire Irish existence in 10 mins. When that good criac motif kicks back in it is utterly undeniable. I cry ever single time.
I wish I could meet these amazing musicians and express my gratitude for what they have brought to my life. I cant express how much these songs have helped me through hard times. Im a musician myself and I am so jealous of the talent exhibited in these videos.
Absolute masters at the peak of their powers. This music brings tears to my eyes. The melody is truly haunting. Honestly makes me so proud to be Irish!
Martin's playing takes me to a place that i can't even begin to describe. It's beyond words. Every time I hear these amazing musicians play I feel like I'm swimming in a sea of beautiful colors. All these different voices coming together in perfect harmony.
Dan Mallon, right... Those greats who dislike this video, have wasted their time watching this!!! They don't even know what the value of Martin Hayes' melodious fiddle...!! 😂😂😂
I never heard better. I saw Martin at The Willie Clancy festival in the late eighties. He was brilliant then and he just keeps getting better. Thanks for the music Martin.
some of you asked what tunes he is playing here and those who gave names are off the wall. E.g. Tripping up the stairs --The Irish washerwoman --- Tarbolton --Toss the feathers are all incorrect..He starts with a slow Sailors Bonnet and then speeds it up. second last tune is The Congress reel and last is Sailors bonnet in a different key .
I read recently that music was the highest art form. I agree and there is no piece of music higher in art than this. Sublime doesnt cover it. Words dont work. Its just mystical and inexplicable. Peace and love. X.
This is GOLD!! As the music progressed, I was tapping my feet, lost in abandon. Opened my eyes to see that the band members were tapping their feet as well. It shows how much they were enjoying their own music, and I felt the joy they gain and give away through their music :)
Spent last 2 hours listening to Martin & Denis Their beautiful haunting, incredible music. Their brilliance , their sounds, incredible. Saw them very recently In Roisin Dubh Galway What an incredible night Thank u x

Very well said. It resonates with every strand of DNA in my body. No choice but to let it consume you entirely.
caden agree
This is the theme song of the final ten minutes of the last final exam of your final school year.
Something very special about our little country.
Used to be
Its known as culture.
Perhaps he is the greatest fiddle player Ireland has ever produced. What a time to be alive!

Sad to hear of the death of Denis Cahill, gifted musician departed this world too soon.
RIP Dennis. I had the privilege of working with The Gloaming a couple of times and they're all extraordinary artists, mind blowing.

And pretty amazing when let loose as a soloist, too. He listens in such a refined way, makes him incredible both in the background and foreground.
Don't fight it. Just let the music take you to the most beautiful place in the galaxy.

I've drunk Whisky with him and Dennis at Inish Beg Fiddlefair in Baltimore in 2018.
Magical player indeed 🎻🍺
Simplicity is the ulrimate sophistication
You are so lucky!!
I'm on my 10th loop. There's a fireplace in my head.
I saw them tonight in the Union Chapel for the first time. Known them for a while. They didn't play this one. Gutted and yet still elated.
May it burn forever and provide you warmth...

At 9:25 when everything just drops and it reverts back...... that is everything to me.
Return as needed for your daily dose of joy.
True masters of their craft at work.. Just magic.. How lucky we are to live on an island where such music is played just for the love of it..
You hit the nail on head. Grateful everyday for being born on our beautiful island. Such a creative nation

Any time I feel homesick this song brings me right back!
I think you're right, This Music is a cure for everyone
Glorious, a true favorite of this US Navy Vet and music addict who loves the sea passionately. ❤
The rest of us don’t feel the need to share our former job. The US navy has killed thousands of innocent people, it’s nothing to be proud of. Fucking yanks 😂
lucky people ...just we are very lucky to be on the planet the same time as Martin and friends ..bliss
Gives me the shivers still 10 years later. Something connects deep into the soul

My god, that was incredible.
I call this soulfood...
It is incredible.. From the depths of sadness.. A period of uncertainty.. To total joy.. Life
Nothing grounds me to this island like our musical tradition and today’s interpretations and virtuosity. Martin loves finding a groove.
I would have given ANYTHING to have seen this live.
100th+ listen and the hairs are still standing on the back of my neck.. some of the best musicianship I'll ever come to know
That key change at 9:25 is bloody fantastic! Roll on Sunday night at the NCH!
I was in a trance throughout the whole performance and in the final minute, body started to pulse and my eyes filled with tears. So incredibly moving, Thank you.
you may need medical attention
Funny..reels are dance music . Pure and simple.

You will have to come and visit Ireland.
Practice 🤗💌
I like the way it builds and builds until climax.
The tone at the start is so beautiful, it matches anything I've heard in my lifetime.
Listen and get courage for the hills you climb
Fantastic. Extraordinary. Beautiful. I am so sorry to hear that you have had to leave us, Dennis; RIP.
my heart has just gone flying around the room fluttering high and free.......
So glad to see Irish music is getting the appreciation it deserves. :)
Truly ,the fiddle is the conduit to the Human soul........................
Absolute masters at the peak of their powers. This music brings tears to my eyes. The melody is truly haunting. Honestly makes me so proud to be Irish!

This track has helped me through some hard times 🙏
What is it about 'Other Voices'? It brings out the absolute best in performers.
This song sets my soul free
These lads are so bloody good....your man ,the fiddler is a fuckin genius....
Anything, just anything with Martin Hayes. Stunning sweet music. Life is a better, fuller, sweeter thing with his music.
Charlene Anne, yep this man should duet with Mairead Nesbitt..!!!!
I can’t imagine what the violinist is feeling himself. All the sound vibrations are passing directly through his whole body. Pure love ❤️
Was thinking the same!… can you imagine being able actually do that, from out of your own hands and fingers and … well yeah, what you said 😂
Genius is the only apt description, Master Fiddle Player does not do the man enough justice ! thank you Martin.
The Gloaming got me through my HDip!!!! ...food for the soul❤️
Tá mo chroí 💔 RIP Dennis 🕊

Air fiddle if this is what you're rocking out to!
aye the air violin got us going back in the day

Eleanor Ryan If it's classical music, it's a violin. If it's Irish traditional, its a fiddle.
This sublime music encompasses the essence of life itself.
3:38 - 5:20: Marvel at Martin and Dennis listening to each other. Amazing.
goes straight into the soul.
This makes me feel alive ✌🏾
It's one of those that I just keep coming back to.
again and again
Tone. Feel. Reach. Grasp. The story of a tune. Some folks "got music." Mr. Hayes is ate up with it.
this music twists my emotions in so many beautiful ways. Simply sublime
Probably the most beautiful 10 minutes of my life...
Shame on the 17 philistines who disliked this magic
May they one day be enlightened by this magical piece of skillsmanship and passion.

Spot on
Normal people introduced to this. I am thankful to that show for numerous reasons and this is one.
Martin Hayes, always amazing.
Extraordinary. The very best of us.
The word "endurance" comes to mind: a sustained race to the finish line. Amazing!

Its heaven Martin, Dennis and gloaming.
Your music goas into my bones
So this is what flying feels like.
Someone called it Irish music. No it’s not. It’s the universal sound of all that’s right in our universe. If there’s a god, he listens to the Gloming.
Makes a happy heart.
So much artistry...
Love this music!
I reached the epitome of euphoria listening to this, still do.
Kind of depressing facing reality after such happiness.
Here are two of the musicians who can get to the heart of things.
Saw Martin Hayes And Dennis Cahill his Guitarist Back i 97 At The Victoria PH In Wolverton Bucks Was A Grand Night Of Playing, This Tune Is Wicked
