I’m so happy to see you back. You have such an easy way and don’t spend endless time going on about one particular thing. It is so refreshing so thank you.
I am a monogamous knitter. I only have one project at a time except on the rare occasion when I suddenly find I need to knit a gift right now! So I’ll put my own project on hold. As soon as the gift is done, I’m back to my project. Years ago, a friend encouraged me to have several items on the go explaining you can tire of only one thing. I thought it seemed a good idea ( not). I ended up with unfinished items and tension problems as I switch between different yarn weights and needle sizes.
Secondly, I never buy yarn unless I know exactly what I shall knit with it. I usually start with a pattern I fall in love with. Then I’ll hunt for the sort of yarn and colour I want usually via the internet. Don’t misunderstand me, I have plenty of stash with its pattern ready and waiting to be started. The problem with this is, I usually fall in love with a newer pattern in the meantime and start that 🧐.

Great visit in Victoria Leanne, I was knitting while watching and it feels like I'm travelling a little without even leaving my chair or costing a penny. I get the gorgeous views you show as well as the informative info of the places you are in, just like a tour guide. As well as knowing which yarn shops to visit if I do ever get to any of these places. Loved all your wips and yarn, so darn gorgeous. Safe travels. :)

I’m glad you are doing the MKAL by Stephen West this year! I found him last year and loved doing his shawl. He has great videos on UA-cam for each section. He’s a great teacher and I have learned new stitches. Have fun!

Love Victoria. Such history and story lines the streets. I live in Vancouver and it’s a ferry hop over. Your podcast is great. When you started counting your WIPs I started counting mine too…mmmh too many and I just bought more yarn today at the Knit city fibre festival. So squishy.

“Knitting with smoke”!!! In love with that and totally know what you mean! Choosing an ozetta pattern was a great move and also you’re not alone with feeling like Nutiden is too precious to knit with! Soon though, a) you will struggle to knit with anything else so every project will become the right project, and b) you’ll realize that Caroline JUST WON’T STOP making gorgeous colourways so it becomes easier to use the ones you have bc there’s another shop update just around the bend! 😂

I was thinking about it but I'm scared of committing and not knowing what it would look like lol but I think thats what makes it fun. That was beautiful! Thank you. I wish we were IRL friends, I’d love to talk all things yarn. You seem to know so much. I’m a l-o-n-g time knitter but still very lost in the world of wool. The music at the end was very poignant and moving. I know you tipped him (well). Victoria is on my travel bucket list - I live in Toronto so, one day. I always want a tv knit as well as a more complicated project but what to do with all the FO’s🤷‍♀️. I don’t knit garments, it’s hats, scarves, shawls and endless blankets (which I admit to acrylic for because of colour and cost). I also crochet said blankets. And donate almost all to Goodwill if a friends don’t claim them. Anyway, I enjoy your easy style of chatting and your travelogue and obvious love of this, my chosen country (I’m an expat from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿). ‘See’ you next month. 🤗

I love you Leanne…you are so funny! Humour is a huge thing in connecting with people! You also look so familiar… 🤔 I am saying to myself have I flown with her, who knows maybe aye maybe no 😂 I laughed so much when you said « am I a real Knitter, I've never knitted a Stephen West shawl? » well in the last couplen of months I have been asking myself the same question. Do you know Amy Palko from the Podcast The Meaningful Stitch? Well she has made so many that she got me on the bandwagon😅 I really liked the Fantastitch so I went to my stash and found what I needed. If I like the process I will do the MKAL next year. Btw check out Amy's podcast she is thoughtful and full of joy and inspiration.
Well I will be looking out for your next installment 🎉 Happy flying

I'm doing my first Westknits MKAL too. I did make his Boneyard Shawl about 10-12 years ago. Love your choices. I have to use stash, so it was difficult, as I have few yarns with enough yardage, but found something I hope works. I am only 1/2 way through clue 1. Enjoying it, but it does take forever for me.

His video tutorial for step by step was helpful. I started to lose my sanity a bit, but then decided to do backwards thumb cast on instead of the cable cast on and it helped me power through. Lordy!! What a feat. Hope your colours from stash are making you happy!

Now I want to visit Victoria! I've ordered from Beehive, so it was nice to get a glimpse inside. I've also ordered from Small Bird, I've made socks with their wool/hemp. I will be knitting the Stephen West MKAL....last year's was knit with a superwash wool that just keeps stretching, so I wanted to stick with a rustic wool this year....so I ordered from Small Bird! As for unspun...I ordered some Nutiden this week to knit the Nostalgic Sweater Coat, but will knit it mid-thigh length, not full-length. There is an unspun KAL right now called #unspunheroeskal 😊

Hello Leanne! What a great capital, Victoria! My husband and I visited that wonderful city in the summer of 2021 and just loved it. But somehow I missed the Beehive, I won’t next time! One of my best food memories of Victoria is from the Gozen Sushi Bar, there were some great chefs behind the counter, a pleasure to watch as well. Highly recommended. Happy for you that you decided to join this year’s MKAL! My first one was last year and I learn soooooo much, Stephen West is such a great teacher. I will also participate this year. Hey, I was in Victoria this week too. Stayed at the Coast Victoria right by Fisherman’s Wharf. I was chauffeur for my sis and her husband while she had knee surgery. Loved some long walks with my little dog, Prim, and a good friend who lives in Victoria. It was fabulous weather and it is such a beautiful city. I just missed going to BeeHive knits, as I got the call that my sister was being discharged early. This was good for her, but not for my knitting 🧶 love- so jelly that you got to BeeHive. It looks as wonderful as I imagined it. I am back up in Courtenay being nursemaid and errand runner for a few more days. I did make it to the Village Yarn Shoppe in Comox and Uptown Yarns in Courtenay in my hunt for light colour knitting needles, as I am going blind and dropping stitches on my Elton sweater in black mohair single strand (argh) and fingering weight black mix yarn for the Joji KAL. I just finished the Lone Skein Shawl for the same knit along. Both knitting shops were lovely and very different, so of course I bought yarn I didn’t need but had to have. I have yarn ready for the Stephen WestMKAL- I did it last year and didn’t like my project. Hope I love this one. Loved your FO’s and WIPS. I always have several WIPS going- some I can only knit in morning light, some need concentration and one is always mindless- prepared for all occasions. Lots of knitting for grandkids and gifts and occasionally now, some things for me. Love your episodes. Good thing you weren’t in PEI this weekend with the tail end of Fiona. I hope all those maritimers are safe.

I love your colors for the MKAL! This will be my first too! I ordered the aqua Holst garn kit. I wanted to keep the cost down since I lordered more Nutiden at the last update. I finished my Weekender light knit with one strand of Nutiden in Ynnest. I wish I had a dollar for every time the yarn broke. I’d be rich! Seriously I’m not sure I’d do that again. I did end up with a beautiful sweater and it only weighs 270 gm. I live in Georgia and really don’t need heavy sweaters. Right now I’m working on the Bandana Cowl by Purl Soho. I’m using 2 strands of my handspun. This will be a gift for my best friend who lives in Massachusetts and is always cold! Thanks for taking us with you as you travel!

First off, I love all your projects. The finished hat and the pressed flower hat( I may try to make a crochet version) are so pretty. The yarn for the cowl will look great. I fell in love with Steven West patterns when introduced to them by Gary of Urban Yarns. Claudia Dingle's (Sunbird Crochet) decision to participate in the 2022 mystery KAL inspired me to try it. I never got past row two and recently removed the stitches from the needles. The yarn you purchased for the Kal is gorgeous. Can't wait to see your progress.

Hi Leanne - thanks for another great video! Victoria looks like such a beautiful place to visit - thanks for the tour! Your FOs and WIPs are all so nicely made. My favorites are the hat with yellow flowers and the cowl that you were wearing. The colors of the cowl are similar to the colors of the Miami Dolphins football team - my Husband's favorite team. I am actually starting to crochet a winter hat for him in those colors. Thanks again and safe travels. Congrats to Beate - enjoy the beautiful yarn.
Take care, Kris K from Connecticut 🧶🌻❤

Hi Leanne, I am also just starting to knit with Nutiden. I really think I’m using mine for the Fields of Gold sweater too. But, I’m finishing up my Stripes sweater first.
And I’m so tempted to do the Stephen West mystery kal! But I think I have too many things on the needles as it is. I just finished an Ambah O’Brian shawl that took me forever, so I think I need a shawl break for a bit.
Thanks for the podcast, loved seeing Victoria again!

Hi Leanne....You asked what we are knitting.....I am on the sleeves of a Vanilla Sweater from The Woolly Thistle...Corinne's pattern. I ordered a 6 pack of Rauma Finullgarn in a color packet TWT put together named "Northeast Forest." I decided to do four row stripes (top down pattern). It is so easy to see progress in striped knitting. ♥ I love this podcast - as always you are entertaining and informative and so caring and genuine with this work. Stay safe and well.

Yeah! You featured a city I've actually been too. I've been to the Beehive Yarn shop and I'm amazed at how big it is! I like your cowl. Fisherman's Rib and brioche are skills on my to be learned list. Also your pressed flowers hat looks great! It's nice to know there is a hat in this pattern. I've only seen others knitting the shawl and I'm not much of a shawl wearer. Happy Travels. :)

I love joining you to see Canada, I have the Joji Pure Joy pattern but have cast on the Sparkle cardie for the fall knit along, but currently am finishing the Butterfly Cowl by Marinja Knits, am currently adding on a bit more length at the back, I am also working on my Maudie Cardigan by Truly Myrtle, modification converting from a round neck to a v neck. Re Stephen west MKAL, i have enough yarn in stash for the two main colours but not sure about my pop. And i am trying to resist, but as it gets closer my resolve is weakening.

I am knitting my husband socks and started a wool hat as he recently got a job which involves freezers and coolers. Brrrr 🧊 . Finally a sweater/ tank for my daughter who goes to school in the south. Many projects. That’s how I knit, and I always am in the mood for something. Be well and thank you for the tour! How do you visit an store and not shop??

Hello Leanne, good to see you back. Thanks for showing us some of beautiful Victoria. I used to work on cruise ships and we visited this gorgeous area many times. I am out in my garden room in North Wales UK, and taking stock of my woolly buys from yesterday’s visit to the wonderful wool fest that is ‘Yarndale’. This is held every year in Skipton, North Yorkshire and, if your ever here at this time do visit.
I too am joining Stephen Wests MKAL. I love taking part in these as there are always some interesting techniques that I’ve never done before.
Love all your makes and future projects to knit….my knitty wish list gets longer, as there are so many talented designers out there. Safe flying to you. Best wishes Janette

I am also joining the Stephen West MKAL for the first time. But for economical reasons I’m falling back on good old Briggs and Little Sport. I often knit that up as fingering. Just hope I have enough yardage as it will be a little shorter. Hope your foray into multiple cast ones doesn’t become stressful. I have lots cast on but usually end up choosing one to finish and that seems to work ok for me! Finishing up the Fantastitch by Stephen West hopefully before Oct 6th right now

Hi Leanne I was just in MTL and found a sweet little yarn shop called Crochet and Co. They introduced me to a lovely Unspun wool called Manchelopi. It is from the Manchego sheep in Spain that give us the delicious Manchego cheese. They come in a DK 2 stranded disc or cheese as call it. I too want to make the traveller’s cardigan but the Miles shirt
jacket is also super popular. Ozetta knits has lots of patterns for that wool. Enjoyed the podcast!

Great podcast. I love how you give a tour and the history of the cities you visit. That looked like a great yarn shop. I just got back from your neck of the woods. We went from Calgary to Vancouver by bus and train. Such an awesome trip. We were disappointed we couldn’t go to Jasper because of the wildfires. I treated myself to a skein of qiviuk while in Banff. Still trying to decide what to make with it. I love your colors for your Stephen West MKAL. I’ve never done one either. While I think he is brilliant and his shawls are works of art, I would never wear them. Good luck. I hope you learn a lot.

I call myself a monogamous knitter, but usually have 2/3 projects going. Something mindless, on the go for: school pick up, swimming lessons. One that has a pattern and does not leave my knitting chair as I have to pay attention to every stitch. One other one maybe a large like a baby blanket that is in various stages. ALL projects get done and nothing sits around. Currently I have cardigan, hat and socks on needles.
