Same! Damn lol I been looking for non IN EAR ear buds to take calls...and that don't sound like trash...so if I end up getting this I'll prolly go with the non-air ones.
This is the EXACT review I have been looking for! I'm an IT Engineer. Working with the versatility and the volume of the original Open fit, I am absolutely impressed. I can work for hrs..sometimes 5-8 hrs straight with good quality for calls. Amazing app will tweak sound perfectly
I agree! I was looking around reddit for a comparison and then decided to look at YT and this is the first review i looked and and exactly the info i wanted. :)
The Openfit Air are great. I wear them for workouts, but also use them at work for music and calls. Never had an issue with anyone hearing me on calls.
I initially purchased Open Fit Air. Liked them so much bought the Open Fit. Sonically I prefer the Open Fit due to the EQ option but the Open Fit Air is sonically great. The noise impression using the mic is soon on per your review. Your review inspired me to choose my purchases vs. other brands. I need a good quality earbuds for my business. The sound quality is better than my headphones so I use them when learning songs and listening to music. Your review is very good! Really enjoying the Shokz.
I have the Open fit original, not the air version. The ones I have are more expensive and worth every penny. They block out lawn mowing perfectly, while keeping you aware of your surroundings. Metallica never sounded better
Thank you for the review. I have a question regarding connecting to a desktop PC that does not have Bluetooth connectivity, is there a dongle that can allow pairing with the shokz units.
These aren't a direct replacement because you'd be going from an in-ear design to an open-ear design. It's very different. Yes, they will leak slightly compared to an in-ear earbud, but the leakage is relatively very low if you are looking for an open one
Thanks for the great review! Is volume control supported when paired with a laptop or PC (for office video calls)? Surprisingly, some earbuds work correctly only with iPhone and Android devices. I can live without EQ, but volume control is a must 🙂
Sorry, been so busy moving house that I couldn't reply straight away. The earbuds are back in my old studio but i'll set a reminder to go and check this later today with both a laptop and a mac. I want to give you an accurate answer 👍🏼
It's honestly a personal preference thing. I prefer the sound quality of open air vs bone conduction and I also like having independent earbuds not connected by a band. But others specifically want the band 🤷♂️
By the way, i'll cover this exact question in my next video. I'm reviewing Shokz new OpenRun Pro 2 and will talk about them vs the OpenFit Air design 👍🏼
Unfortunately not. These work by open air conduction i.e. the speaker sits just above your ear canal and that's how you hear the sound. So wearing ear plugs would block the sound. They don't use bone conduction
Nice review. The difference I heard in mic for phone calls, the openfit air was nowhere near as good. Combine that with EQ, bass, and others and it doesn't seem to me that the discounted price makes the air worthwhile. One question: has anyone commented on either model while wearing glasses? I don't own a pair yet and would likely always be wearing glasses when using.
Problem with the touch pad is when your sweat goes to that area while running you have a problem. It will keep pressing because of the liquid touching the touch pad area. Worse if your sweat touches the volume up.
With a lot of touch pads, that's definitely a problem. But I personally found both Shokz earbuds were particularly good for unwanted touch detection / working when wet. I remarked on this in a previous video. Others may fair differently though
I've had multiple runs with different pair of these where this behaviour happened. Volume up/down maxing out because of phantom activation. Wondering if this is also a known problem with the non-air OpenFit. I'm really hoping this will/can be fixed with a firmware update, since they're pretty good otherwise.
I have very small ears and thought these would fit good but now seeing this video I see their small size increase from the original. Are the Airs an option or are the originals more promising for small ears?
Had the the same problem bought the openfit and returned them cause the air seemed better but the air definitely has more of a looser fit. I couldn’t even workout in the air, so I ended up getting the openfit again and they definitely fit better than the air. Now with the firmware update they’re great and I have small ears cause not one in ear buds will stay in my ears.
I have, and they have some annoying quirks like poor controls. I tested Bose's Open Ultra and found them far, far better (much more expensive though). So I really like the clip-on design, but would avoid Huawei's version personally
@@insidetechltd I see, the design is really unique and I lot of testers says it's super comfortable and secure. I honestly wouldn't mind poor controls but below average sound quality doesn't sound nice...thanks for replying!
Both of them end up not charging or one won't charge anymore. I have gone through 3 of the original and one of the open fit air . So sad because I love them 😢 I'm going to try more more time with the air
I'm sorry to hear that. I've actually experienced charging issues myself on the original model - the stopped holding a charge and therefore needed to be charged up a lot more often. Haven't had issues with my latest replacement or the Air model so far, but i'll update the video if that changes over time!
Sort of, yes. I probably missed the boat to do a dedicated review on them, but i've got a best earbuds under $200 video coming up that ear will feature in. And later i'll do it for best under £100 which will feature ear (a)
The comfort is actually significant when you wear a hoodie or benny. I find the original the most comfortable but the touch control is annoyingly sensitive compared to the air when hoodie or benny on.
I tried these at a store today, but was rather disappointed. For listening to podcasts or calls I could see them being useful, but the sound quality I heard through them was not that great at all. (Granted, this was without the app) They were very confortable though.
I would have preferred a comparison. Currently, the Openfit are on sale on Amazon for the same price as the Openfit Air, and unfortunately, after watching the video, I still don't know which one I should choose.
He stated there wasn’t much of a difference and he did a full comparison. The new model is slightly heavier and the microphone with phone calls isn’t as good. The battery location has been moved to make the ear wrap part smaller and there is an hour less battery time with the new version. But the new version is a lot less. This was all in the video.
A review/comparison with the baseus eli sport 1 would be a nice video to see. I've seen it be highly rated by others, who said that they were about as good as the shokz at the price of around $50.
Non te li consiglio, la parte audio è molto buona ma in chiamata sono pessimi.. gli interlocutori ti sentono lontano e il volume di chiamata é più basso di quello di riproduzione
In terms of sound quality, the openfits are better and they also have customizable EQ. The airs don't. I see why there is a sixty dollars difference between them.
Yes it probably is the same, or at least very close. I just listed that because that's what Shokz lists it as, and I didn't want to cause any confusion if people looked online and saw it was different
@@insidetechltd ah, thanks. well i was possibly confused because i just tried the open run pro 2 after losing my open run pro (1). the latter was definitely bone conducting and the former definitely isn't. i was unimpressed with the 2 and returned them.
@@insidetechltd i've read that, but when pulling the bud parts away from my head on orp2 it sounded 95% the same, so the bone conduction part must be very minimal (pointless?).
I tried both: both models are rubbish. They also cost a lot of money!! From half the volume (low on both) the sound loses all frequencies, from bass to midrange to treble. These are truly miserable headphones, and should be avoided by anyone who loves music.

a friend just got the new nothing ear open - thoughts on how they compare to either of these?
Thanks for your review. Is it possible to mute from the Openfit's original aribuds?
Thanks for watching! No there isn't a mute function directly from the earbuds
So these would not be good for any sort of noise cancelling, right? Looking for a new pair of lawn mowing ear buds.
def not, I have the open run from Shokz, they are not for sound isolation.
I have the Open fit original, not the air version. The ones I have are more expensive and worth every penny. They block out lawn mowing perfectly, while keeping you aware of your surroundings. Metallica never sounded better

As far as i'm aware there isn't a specific dongle made for these. But I don't see why you couldn't just use any regular Bluetooth dongle for a PC 👍🏼
I’m looking for a good replacement of my Powerbeats Pro with a dead battery.
Do you think these would be a good fit? Does the sound leak outside?
