I have had these for around 6 months. For me total game changer. They go on in the morning and come off in the evening. Forget they are there...got into the shower a couple of times - just dried with hair dryer on low and all ok. Good situational awareness, listen to pod casts and music...excellent for telephone conversations except in wind...I wear hat, sweat band and glasses when running. At the beginning had some issues with the buttons but that was me not knowing how to work them. I just use them for volume and pausing videos/hang up and answer calls. 5* from my side.
I had the first few pairs of AfterShokz and yes the bass was zero and treble was at 100 but the whole deal was being aware of your surroundings, people coming up from behind you etc.. While i haven't tried these i feel to make the sound better being closer to your ear canal they are probably taking away from that. Ill stick with my jabra elites and Beats for now. Good review
They are really incredible! Their voice call capabilities are next level as well compared to the newer BoSe Ultra Open their voice calling quality is amazing!!
I also had same issue with my galaxy buds but was able to turn off touch controls.. can this turn off as well ? Based on this review he mention need glove ?
Thanks for the great review! I would love to see a comparison between these and the newest Open Run Pro. I recently purchased the Open Run Pro and I am very impressed by the sound quality with their 9th gen technology. I was on the fence between the Open Run Pro and Open FIt but as a triathlete i went with the bone conduction option for added safety on the bike.
I have both, they sound better, they are lighter, the touch sensors are good. I’m a cyclist, my main issue with these is when you take off the helmet, they can come off the ear. Otherwise they are very good. On that note I sent Shokz back because of this issue, I ordered instead the soundcore model that has that has the adjustable band and gets great reviews on YT. The soundcore over ear on me flops around too much and is much more prone to coming off unless I use the adjustable detachable band. Also I prefer the sound on the Shokz. In fact the soundcore for me is only usable with the headband. FWIW I have reordered the shohz.
Awesome review. I have always found the bone induction sound quality sub-par and disliked the loop around my sweater, so I end up doing long runs without entertainment. I need to check this OpenFit out!
I don’t know if it was just me but I found the controls finicky. There were times where I went to adjust them mid run and accidentally stopped the music. Couldn’t get them to play again so had to take out my phone to resume music. For what it’s worth I wear sunglasses and hats on all of my runs.
So I get that the ear canal is physically open, but wouldn’t it be hard to hear other sound while pumping sound directly toward and into the ear canal from the headphones? That’s what I like about the bone conduction ones - the sound from the headphones is coming in differently, leaving the canal unblocked (physically and noise-wise). That way I can both listen to my book and listen for traffic around me.
I have their chepest bone-conduction pair, the Openmove. Sound quality is horrible, but i only listen to podcasts while running or cycling anyway, and they´re good enough for that. Nice thing about it is that it´s USB-C, the Operuns and the Pros don´t sound that much better, but they have a stupid proprietary cable.
It would suck to be racing and having one of them fall off. The headband ones are safer in that regards. Plus now we have two devices that could be out of sync or with different battery charge levels. It would have made sense to offer a headband version that wasn't bone conduction.
Had since launch - situational hearing good but for several consecutive runs I got runaway volume with a single touch. Blew my ears out and had to yank them off. after that, I only use indoors when not exercising. Bummer.
I had them when thew were known as aftershokz aeropax. Needless to say those were really poor sound quality but these new ones many steps higher in terms of sq
Trying to decide if I should splurge for them... Already own the Openrun Pro mini but I find the volume too low sometimes, specially while running on the beach and listening podcast with the wind and planes landing a few km away... 200€ might be a tad too much...
@@kofuzi thank you. I was torn between this and the ear clip types like the Bose ultra open. I'll go with these since maybe they'll be more secure and hopefully it won't bother me too much
I have to ask directly...do these actually still retain situational awareness? Or is it compromised for the better sound/on-ear driver? I don't mind the OpenRun (in-ear gives me headaches, plus I mainly run alone at night)...I certainly don't crap on Shokz for offering something a bit different, but it seems like this still fundamentally compromises the degree of situational awareness available. This seems like the On Cloudboom Echo 3 of earbuds.
Short answer: yes Long answer: well, I suppose at a certain point, any sound device can degrade situational awareness. For example, car speakers aren’t anywhere near your ear canals, and yet we’ve all done the thing where we turn down the volume while driving when trying to find directions. I suppose the more relevant inquiry would be at which volume my situational awareness degrades with this product and whether that volume is below a sufficient average listening volume. I think that could depend on what your typical listening volume is and also on the nature of ambient noise that you are looking for. For example, listening for footsteps behind you is quite different than listening for cars or trucks. And then the degree of non-relevant but ambient sound, such as wind, general city noise, or lawn equipment could also affect this inquiry. And then I suppose we then need to examine whether any of the results mentioned above are meaningfully different than what is available compared to bone conduction. and also traditional earbuds should probably also be included in that comparison. These are all interesting follow up inquiries, but they are also beyond the scope of what I intend for this channel. Im already annoyed at myself for using a decibel meter.
@@kofuzi LOL Ok ok, I just was curious about your gut reaction on it (more vehicular noise than footsteps, but good points). Enjoy NYC today and appreciate the reply! 🙏
hopefully someone can answer. i have hearing loss. phone calls a nightmare so i have aeropex. they work well enough. i have never been able to wear earbuds.think canal too small. these seem to just lay in ear and not have to screw into canal like buds. do you think i would have a problem keeping these in?
The main value proposition (for me) for the original Shokz product was to signal to other people that I'm open to being approached for conversation. These don't provide that. In fact, I see absolutely NO advantage of these over my Sonys with "ambient" turned on.
I feel like I cannot answer this question for you any better than I have in this video who focus was essentially, “is this good for listening to music while running?”
@@kofuzi Yeah! Actually an excellent review, your video came to me just on time because I wanted to buy some bone conduction ones. The fidelity of the sound can be heard well when running? Thanks for answering 🫡
I really would only listen to podcast. So not as worried about the bass, etc. Just so long as the quality is good enough to hear! Thoughts on if the original shokz or these of im only listening to podcasts? Country, I don’t use headphones when I run because I live in the country on 2 lane roads with cars flying by 😂 so be able to hear cars coming is something that is important to me!
I have a love/hate relationship with physical buttons. I like them because they will still work, even if I’m using thick winter gloves. On the other hand, physical buttons tend gm need more of a harder press, so I sometimes feel like I’m poking myself in the ear
This company has absolutely trash customer service. I pity anyone that tries to file a warranty claim with them. Mine has been open for 5 weeks and I still haven't been taken care of.
My favorite was probably the Jabra Elite 75t, but I don’t think they make that anymore and they really didn’t last very long (they’d die within a year). But the sound was just so good. Lately, I’ve settled on the Beats Fit Pro. Pretty good audio. And they haven’t died yet.

thank you. I wish you talked about how to use the buttons -? Pause? next song ?
Make no bones about it, SHOKZ is going boneless like your favorite wingz
🤣
Boneless wings are just more expensive chicken nuggets…
Would've been great if you mentioned which pair you use as a daily driver...
I wish I would have waited and got these. The bands on the other models don’t fit well with my winter hats.
That was a problem I also had

Good luck when you are running .. you might come back home with just one 😞

The only problem I have with these wrap around things is they are a pain in the tuchus when wearing any kind of glasses.
Did you get used to them after a while? Like with muscle memory?
