The reason for his voice and when he used "rape" as a lyric is because he is a victim of rape and sexual abuse and he uses his music to express and let out his pain with his own past experiences. That's why KoRn is so great, real emotion and feelings. And 💯 realness with everything they do. It comes from their hearts! 🖤🤘
The song that u were alluding to in the intro was the song 'Blind' by KoRn... first track off the 1st KoRn album in 1994 🤘🔥🔥
I got that cassette in '95 and immediately fell in love.
korn is special. Korn is one of those unique sounds that are very rare to come by.
this song is about the music industry trying to change what korn wanted to do just for popularity but they wanted to do their own thing thats why they are the freak on the leash of the music industry
KoRn established themselves as the perfect fusion of 90's hip hop and angst rock genres... Their lyrical themes were very disturbing, based on real-life childhood traumas and loss of innocence. KoRn came at a time in 1994 just after Nirvana's Kurt Cobain took his own life, and their outlook was even more bleak than Nirvana or Pearl Jam could have delivered... but more artists were open to expressing their past traumas of physical and sexual abuse that had been taboo in music (Tool released a song in 1993 called 'Prison sex' about the singer being raped as a minor by an adult male... for example).
The members of KoRn came (mostly) from broken homes and abusive backgrounds in Bakersfield, California... members of a local band L.A.P.D. found a singer named Jonathan Davis, who was working in a mortuary as an assistant (he admitted he already had a bad drug addiction) ... More than likely, the band name KoRn was chosen from the Stephen King novel (and movie) "Children of the Corn" about kids who murdered their parents and took over their town... 'Corn' seemed silly, so they changed the spelling to KoRn (w/ the 'R' backwards)... They did write a song called "Children of the KoRn" (feat. Ice Cube) in 1998.
Joining Jonathan Davis (vocals & bagpipes) were James Schaffer (Munky, guitar), Brian Welch (Head, guitar), Reggie Arvizu (Fieldy, bass) and David Silveria (drums).
KoRn was signed in 1994 to Immortal Records and worked w/ producer Ross Robinson... Davis wrote a lot of lyrics about his past traumas he had endured as a child... One particular song 'Daddy' which closed the album is difficult to listen to because it was about him being sexually assaulted by a friend of his parents, and they refused to believe him... Jonathan Davis could not finish the song in the studio - he broke down screaming and crying, and that was the track that made the first album.
Epic Records distributed the album that was released in late 1994... and KoRn hit the road hard touring... calling themselves "the next generation" as MTV put on the videos for 'Blind'... 'Clown' ... and 'Shoots and ladders'... The first KoRn album slowly went up the US charts and sold gold by 1996. Their 2nd album 'Life is peachy' (1996) was a darker, more hardcore record and it sold gold again and charted at #3 w/ 1 MTV single "A.D.I.D.A.S.' ... KoRn were on the verge of breaking big in 1998.
With the band being hailed as a 'nu metal' band in 1998, KoRn felt that they were the new leaders of the 90's rock genre, so their 3rd album was titled 'Follow the leader'... it charted at #1 w/ only 2 MTV singles - 'Got the life'... and 'Freak on a leash'... KoRn triumphed at Woodstock '99, stealing the festival's first day... and released their 4th album 'Issues' in late 1999, charting again at #1.
KoRn also appeared animated on an episode of 'South Park' where they were portrayed like the kids of the 'Scooby-Doo' cartoon.
Unfortunately, w/ fame and fortune came excess and setbacks... Despite riding high in 2002 w/ the album 'Untouchables' and in 2003 w/ 'Take a look in the mirror'... guitarist Brian 'Head' Welch was struggling w/ drug and alcohol abuse. In 2004, he made the decision to leave KoRn to raise his daughter and work on his sobriety as he embraced Christianity... KoRn refused to replace him and used session guitarists afterwards.
Even without guitarist Head, KoRn still carried on in 2005 and after drummer David Silveria left the band in late 2006, the band released an MTV 'Unplugged' performance in 2007 w/ singer Amy Lee of Evanescence singing an acoustic version of 'Freak on a leash'... Ray Luzier (drums) was hired for the tour in 2007 for the 'Untitled' album and he joined the band permanently by 2009. KoRn kept releasing new music and toured consistently, but they were no longer the big draw that they used to be...
After a long hiatus, Brian 'Head' Welch (guitar) started to talk about working w/ KoRn again and in 2013, he rejoined the band full-time as they recorded and released the album 'The Paradigm shift'... KoRn was back in action and drawing well on tour again.
In 2018, Jonathan Davis was hit w/ tragedy when his estranged wife Deven (mother of 2 of his kids) passed away after years of drug abuse and mental issues... He wrote their 2019 album 'The Nothing' after his loss...
KoRn's latest album 'Requiem' was released in 2022... but for the tour, bassist Ra Diaz filled in for Fieldy (bass) because of issues related to his personal life.
Well said!
KoRn puts on a bad ass concert as well I've seen them multiple times
I was born 72 and into punk/alt/progressive rock when it all first dropped. GREAT TIMES!!
Korn hit us like a ton of bricks. When Blind came out on the radio...we lost our damned minds. Nobody sounded like Korn. Freak on a Leash, if I recall correctly, was about his disillusionment with the music industry. Korn lyrics go deep. They take pain and turn it into art.
Kinda like the band Chelsea Grin.. take pain into art❤❤
The “sometimes I can’t feel my face” line is about being on drugs to numb the pain from the abuse he has experienced which I can relate to
It’s a mix of boomboxing and Scating from the jazz days , which shows Jonathan Davis’s influence and musical knowledge
Johnathan Davis has openly stated that he was sexually abused by his babysitter. His mother didn’t believe him, and his father didn’t support him either. There is a song called”Daddy” on their first album. They have only played that once live. He can be heard crying on that song. This song is a watered down version that they can actually play. Now you know where the “r**e” reference comes from.
So many amazing Korn tracks! This was definitely their first more mainstream hit they had.
I will say however, the lead singer Johnathan, was actually R worded in real life. So I do wonder if at times, when he wrote this song if that’s what he was truly referring too in one of way. They do have a song called “Daddy” about the incident. However, I strongly recommend reacting to other Korn songs first before ever listening to that one. That one is extremely dark, yet brutally honest and I believe therapeutic for him to get it out. It’s not for the weak hearted yet it’s an important song that has helped SA victims process the pain of abuse.
Lol every 14yr old white guy I knew trying to make.that sound! No one had heard a noise like that b4! It literally owned!
Yes, this is KORN
I knew about this band for a while before this song came out, but wasn't initially that interested. This is the song that changed my mind about them. Since then, they've been one of my favorite bands. I've seen them live 10 times so far, and they're still one of the best live bands out there. I've even met a few guys from the band.
I was born in 85 so I was an 80’s baby but was also an 80’s kid because I remember the late 80’s and I was a 90’s kid and teenager and had my coming of age years in the 90’s
sublime song, and a great and honest reaction, mad respect dude
Yep... 😎
Possibly the best breakdown in modern music.
KORN is amazing..they are nu metal but you can hear the inspiration from hip hop..rock.. the band is incredible and Jonathan's voice is one of the best..Korn is the best nu metal band..in my opinion..and there still putting out amazing music. 🔥🔥👍😎
LMAO, i love it when people react to this video. No one is ever ready for it 🤣
The animation part is done by Todd McFarlane who created the comic book character Spawn
Johnathan Davis has a vocal coach. That's where he gets his vocal innovation. His lyric's are his own. Korn makes you strong.
I feel like you could pretty much deem this song their all-around masterpiece. For an excellent rap collab they did, check out “Children of the KoRn” featuring Ice Cube on guest vocals, same album.
Great Job!!! I Loved How You broke this down!
There's a mashup, Korn, coming undone & Lean wit it by dem franchize boys 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 one of my favorite pieces of music ever. 🤌🤌
This is literally the song that got me into metal! When this album came out, I listened to it non stop!
Saw Korn once when they opened for Ozzy Osbourne. I liked them enough to buy some albums.
you're in for a treat with Blind. looking forward to the reaction!
90's was the most diverse and iconic decade of music before we fell into listless nothingness of creativity. Grunge, Hip-Hop, Industrial, Nu-Metal and all the unclassifiable artists.
Yaaaas! I'm glad you're getting into Korn 😁
You killed that "blind" intro
react to their best album -UNTOUCHABLES- and also their latest one - REQUIEM - .... you will feel things that you never have before I guarantee
Absolutely my fav top 4 bands, korn is like no other, dealing with humanitys darkest sides..
One of my favorites ❤
The breakdown is so crazy..🔥🔥🔥
This video flows right into the next video falling away from me good song with a message
Korn is awesome! So glad you’re getting into them. You were talking about being a 90s kid and the 90s music vibe - I noticed you haven’t done any Alice In Chains. I’d love to see what you think of them, since you like SOAD and Korn. If you do, I’d like to request that you start with Rooster - the official music video, if UA-cam will let you. Don’t do it after listening to Chop Suey, though, if you get me…
The difference between you and other reactions is that I feel like you’re really trying to learn about music, and you’re taking us on that journey with you. Appreciate you.
I feel like the beat box start was him taking control of the bullet and having power over his life.
Yeah Jonathan Davis is similar to a lot of the classic Blues artists because there’s always that pain in their voice if you are smart enough to pick up on it
MMBxMOB Coming Undone is Korn's best song, imo.
Blind is the song you heard before.
Here's some fyi
You can't get a deal with a major label unless you're at least a 1st degree witch. When you get a deal, you sign it in your own blood. The contract contains a lot more than making music and touring. Why you think MJ and Prince wanted out so badly? Prince got out, then they killed him cos he wouldn't re-sign. MJ was almost out, but they killed him before he got free. Thing is, once they've signed a deal with devils in their own blood, CAN they be free now? Lord only knows
you wanna hear a korn song about rape that will haunt you until the end of time, watch korn daddy. Just a warning it is the most horrific song I've ever heard. It was pure unfiltered pain. I can't even imagine trying to perform it.
great reaction to great video and song.
Next MV sould be Falling away from me.
The singer Johnathon Davis is a survivor of sexual abuse and he sings about it because it’s part of his personal story
I'm team David fa life!!!!!
I feel you on the 90s being fun.
React to korn song - Here to stay, please
i like the part where the closed captions try to put full words into his scat. it was a good attempt :)
Also check out Korn- Got the life
You'll enjoy that 1
Try it with headphones. You're welcome.
You def gotta do the song and music video for Korn - got the life!
Todd macfarlin the creator of venom and spawn did the animation
its scatting btw thats the word you were looking for. singing without words
Follow this up with sister falling Away from me
The line that messed you up is probably from korn song daddy.
Also Jonathan Davis did all the music for that vampire music I can't remember the name of the movie but all those songs were bomb
Queen of the Damned
Freak on a Leash is one of The Best music videos ever made.
The next one should be BBK
If you wanna hear real pain listen to daddy that’s some real pain I absolutely love korn.
react to "twisted transistor" by korn, its got some people in it you might know
I'm the 666th like...wooo
You want more Korn? Will that be on the Kob and with our without butter or salt?
"Falling Away From Me"
If "Korn" is a band name you're debating then check out *"The The" Album "Mind Bomb" but be prepared for some DEEP shit.*
Btw Matt Johnson did everything on his first album, can't remember if he did the 2nd alone. Later he employed others to take some load off.
I call him the UK "Prince"(who had over 21 instruments under his belt).
8:26 it's obvious that guard carried...or in this case dropped....a SIG SAUER P320.
Many good Korn songs to check out. But please don't let anyone talk you into watching the video Daddy. At least until after you have run out of Korn songs to react to. Lots of people like to push that one to troll reactors.
Yo...
SOAD = System Of A Down "Chop Suey"
Trust me. 😁
New here, has he reacted to system of a downs, chop suey yet?
Not sure..but I'm looking for this.
Just found his channel today.
Great reactor, regardless!
Went through his vids fast and don't see it.
He'll get there, though.
They ALL do!
😁
I always felt their first album is their best and is their original sound. Every album after that seemed to be pushing more and more mainstream.
Everyone is og except the drummer
Although I appreciate anybody finding Korn and reacting to them, It seems like this and Daddy are the only 2 tracks making their rounds with the reactors that try to keep up with each other.. This isn't even close to there best shit. This is when they became SUPER commercial. and spawned all the Korn kids. Just saying, there is much, much better stuff to listen to from them.
Are you insinuating that all those Korny kids are "Khildren of the Korn"? 🤯
Bro if you thought that scatting was dope please react to korn worst is in it’s way
you definitely need to check out their much better songs. this song is kind of boring. people just like the bridge for obvious reasons. check out songs like "Blind (album version)", "Need To", "Faget", "Daddy" (be warned), "Good God", "Mr Rogers", "Kill You", "Got the Life", "Here To Stay", "Counting on Me", "Cold", "Holding all these Lies", "Right Now", "Oildale"
Korny lyrics.
Try make sure you listen to uncensored versions if possible, completely ruins certain songs.
I wish people wouldn't keep changing the definitions of words. For instance in this case using rape to describe the loss of something by force, a better description might be "plunder" or something similar. If we can agree to that, "rape" stays what it actually is which is forcing sex on another. That should be it's sole definition. Otherwise, the word gets likened to something way less horrible than being raped. That's not right. It's not the same.
You are the one changing the definition.
R ape has always meant an act against a person and also an act against objects: "They raped the land of it's resources." Nothing sexual about that.
The definition also shows "an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse".
Most words have several or similar meanings/definitions depending on it's use and placement in a sentence.
English 101.
The word itself derives from the Latin word rapere, or “seize”. It wasn't until the 11th and 12th centuries that rape began to be considered more as a violent, sexual crime against the victim
Not so sure about that. Jonathan Davis was physically raped and was brave enough to sing about it. Not a stretch by any means that in this song rape both literally and metaphorically means rape as he would certainly understand the feeling.
Too bad you’re watching the goofy cartoon. Been better off with the studio track The cartoon is a distraction for mature adults.
It has been so long. And they still suck.
Still better than Nirvana tho
@@monotonespeaker8347 Sorry, I am from Washington so I am legally obligated to disagree. You might make a good point but I would be too biased to see it if you did.
Korn is the kind of music you listen to if you're 12 and mad at your step dad for making your mommy squeal like a pig and stealing your juice boxes. Please.
