      The skim module would need to be removed prior to the new / reprogrammed computer installation and the new computer would need to have been programmed with the skim feature turned off. If the computer detects the skim it will turn that feature back on. Another issue is that the solder joints and voltage regulators inside the computer’s appear to also be a common failure point to cause these issues. This is why I chose to just order a tested replacement for this one rather than to have the original reprogrammed. If the computer is refusing to allow new keys to be programmed then a faulty skim module / bus wiring fault/ bad computer or other device on the buss may be malfunctioning.

    So I got a new PCM from all computer resources with the SKIM delete programmed onto it. I followed the install instructions that they provided, the only thing is I had the SKIM just unplugged.. not completely removed. Car continued to just crank and not start, did I screw myself and did the PCM detect the skim and throw the same fault? Do I have to get another one, the thing wasnt cheap.

      @@igliumagallanes7238 thats frustrating that it’s still not starting. As long as your skim was was never plugged into the new computer then I would think that you would be fine as far as the computer goes. Perhaps give a computer resource a call and confirm the skim delete. Check the basics fuel spark air ground straps.

    So wait, you just removed the computer? Or did I miss something, lol
    The original SKIM on my 03 Grand Cherokee 4.7 got damaged and its been hell on earth since.

      Removed skim module & computer. Installed replacement computer with SKIM module not enabled. Note that you must remove the SKIM and order the replacement computer with the SKIM disabled if you wish to not use it. . If the replacement computer detects the SKIM it enables the feature potentially disabling the Jeep.

      It sounds like you don’t want the factory key fobs to work. Besides removing the batteries from the fobs you could potentially go through the key program sequence and not register them on mine this had to be done using the scan tool at the dealer and it would cost me $50. Otherwise you may be able to look up where the receiver is an remove it. Some cars have a programming sequence you can use that dose t require the dealer it can vary by model and year.

    Did you fix it? I have a fix that might work for others. I had someone make a duplicate key for me a few years back. Same year Jeep and model. I went to start it with the new key it did same exact thing yours is . Key light came on and car would run for 1 sec and shut off. Found out the guy cut the wrong code and the Jeep thought it was being stolen. Luckily I found my spare original and it ran fine off that key. So what’s possible is your key chip or resistance is not working. Try another key or get a new key cut. Unfortunately it’s not $15 it’s like $100 because inside the plastic case around the key there is a chip in it and then it’s gotta be reprogrammed. It sounds exactly what my 01 Laredo did with a bad cut key and same dummy lights came on and same issue with engine running for 1 second then shutting off. Just my 2 cents. I still have mine and it just turned 226,000. Peace

      Howdy! Thanks for the comment, Yes, this Jeep is up and running. Before doing this work I did trailer it to the dealer. They attempted to reset and reprogram the 3 keys to the computer but they ran into issues, the programing device kept dropping the connection to the computer.

    So step by step. You removed the skim module remove computer. Order a new computer with the skim module deleted. Plugged everything in and it fixed your issue?

    • @WhisperingWildMarketFarm
      @WhisperingWildMarketFarm  3 місяці тому

      Almost correct. You must leave the skim module out. If the new computer detects the skim module it will enable the feature. If this happens then you may need to take the Jeep to the dealer and have the keys programmed assuming the old skim module is working correctly.

      @@WhisperingWildMarketFarm I had to pull my dash to do hvac work. Upon reassembly jeep won’t start. Won’t crank or click or anything. I have no dome lights or headlights, the blinkers won’t work or the horn. Gauge lights come on but gauges are not working. Blower motor works. I’ve tried to manually jump the starter and it just cranks and cranks. I’m having almost the same issues you are but mine just doesn’t even try to start.

      @@davidcampbell4218 hard to tell without being there. Start with the basics make sure all the connections are tight/ connectors are fully plugged that you may have unplugged or pulled on and no pins backed out of the sockets. Then check for any wires that may have become pinched or damaged. Ground wires are a perennial problem. the Jeep is made up of various computers that all talk on the same. It’s so if there is a short that can disrupt all of the communication and none of the computers can talk. Three is a connector near the bottom of the plastic on the steering column where the plastic in the steering column ends and the dash board goes across the steering That disconnects the bunch of the auxiliary components on that buss. You could also use that connection to test if the buss is shorted using a multi meter. If I was a betting man I’d look for loose connectors or pinched wires. If absolutely nothing happens when you turn the key then look at the plug on the key switch. I wish you all the luck and hopefully it’s something straight forward. On mine there was an after market remote starter that also tied into the blinkers if that was unplugged the blinkers also may not have worked. Check the column switch connections and the BCM plug I believe it’s driver side behind the odb2 port.

      I purchased a replacement computer and had the company program the computer without the SKIM module. Ultimately I suspect it was bad solder joints on the computer itself that caused the issue..

      @WhisperingWildMarketFarm  Рік тому +1

      Hum that’s quite odd I suspect they no longer had a programmer for those older systems my local dealer had one but they had not used it in a while and did not trust it. The module is going to be right by the key on the column as the antenna has to be able to read the chip in the key. Not all cars have the SKIM module though. From what I see online it looks pretty similar to the jeeps setup.

      @@WhisperingWildMarketFarm thought i had a real chance with the skim module- took the cover off no skim module there. just the immobilizer with a wire coming from it- but no skim module. i bought used BCM none of them worked out. so a good old car ruined over this- locked out from my own car from starting.

    • @WhisperingWildMarketFarm
      @WhisperingWildMarketFarm  Рік тому

      Hum you say immobilizer When i goggle Dodge immobilizer I see pictures of what look like a Jeep skim module. Seems like we may be talking about the same part. The skim module has a ring that goes around the key hole so it can pick up the signal from the key. If the chip in the key isn’t detected it results in the computer shutting down the engine.
