I love Giger. He's not one of those "awesome radical gnarly" type people, he's truly a very very smart man who happens to have otherworldly skating ability. A positive role model for kids, and easy to watch for someone who skated in the 80s like me. Thanks Jonny, the world needs more great people like you. Peace from Oz.
Can’t help but comparing him to Rodney Mullen in that sense; he was also a “non-gnarly” clever kid who enjoyed abstract mathematics that realized a gift and developed himself into a skateboarding legend. (Then both are obviously incredibly technical skaters, but that goes without saying.)
@@erictralala I understand what you're saying, but we are talking about Rodney Mullen, a guy who walked around with a broken tooth for a long while I think. And doing some very gnarly stuff onto and over tables, on rails and ledges. Some of the modern skaters that do insane gaps, mostly are too dumb to comprehend the risks. That's not gnarly to me, but just stupid. Lol.
Yo Jonny! Im From Switzerland too, Lucerne actually. Started skating a few Days ago (again). I kinda skated when I was younger and thought now with 15 Years old I wanna fully commit to it :) Just wanna say what an Inspiration you are! i first watch your ollie tutorial was 2 years ago, i coudn't do an ollie, but now, because of u, i can do kickflip heelflip varial flip and a super high ollie :D and i very appreciate that, love you so much
hey im 34 and started at 16, i skated 7 years solid then was on and off for about so many years like one day then never again because i had no friends to skate with anymore. im now older and dont give a fuck about no one but me skating and working and living my life. i now skate every day or so at a carpark, i wish there was other obstacles like stair sets and gaps and rails but i gotta travel for that and no one filming me so i just film trick clips in the car park. im gonna land this trust me.
It's been around 14 years since I skated, but it's weird, I have more appreciation for the technical stuff now than when I last skated, I do want to try again though
Unusual Èlan my understanding of how tricks work or how to make them work is far better than it was back then too. If you guys have instagrams shoot me a follow. Jeff_rail. Happy skating :)
I literally cannot believe I just learned this trick, I am seriously so insanely happy right now. Jonny seriously thank you so much, you're actually a really good teacher
Learned this trick by accident. I was trying to Ollie down a decent drop and wanted to learn how to kick out properly first. So while flat I was kicking my board out so I wouldn’t land back on it if I had to bail. One of the times I did a back foot flip and landed on the board but slid out. So instead of doing the drop I learned back foot flips
This is one of the most thorough trick tips I've ever seen. I know how difficult this actually is but I feel like I could learn this my next session bc of how well you explained it.
I have such a greater appreciation for the complexity of your bag of tricks after hearing you explain all the elements you think about when doing one. These were crazy well explained, keep up the awesome work!
Thanks Jonny, I quitted skating 10 years ago, stumbled over your channel and started again last week. Now I’m 28 and it’s better then ever, cause I tried your way with take care of balancing weight and stuff..my progress learning new tricks is on fleek! Thank you so much!
I needed this Jonny, thank you! For some reason switch ones work better for me, when it comes to the regular one it just does a weird yucky both foot kickflip. But after watching it, I think I've kinda got it figured out. We'll see tomorrow.
You're inspiring both the next generation AND (reinspiring) the last. That in itself is an amazing accomplishment. Great tutorial btw. Never got these 20 years ago; maybe I'll try again tomorrow :D
Great video, one of my favorite trick variations for 20+ years, learned the concept of "flick down" and the "other foot" switch mindset... very well explained in a 10 min video, I had to learn it myself over a few weeks in the 90's, but the results are the same... skateboarding has never been better, really like the content and continued learning and progression curves for new skaters coming these days =)
So been back on the bored for about a month now after 4 years not skate can still do all the basics Ollie kickflip all that learn how to heelflip the other day watching you’re videos watched then couldn’t help my self when out my back garden for 20mins just to mess around and holly god I landed a late flip next time I’m at the park I’m just gonna Patrice it all day till I have it on lock you’re videos are so helpful thank you
Thanks for this trick break down Jonny. The ollie late flip & nollie late flip are 2 tricks you want to under your belt in a game of skate. What I always find odd when trying this trick, is that I find it hard to resist putting down the leg flipping the board.
old comment but im barely trying to relearn them i have the same problem as u like i do this weird late shuv sometimes if u landed them wht did u do right? and pls tell me if u havent its all good this trick is insanely hard even just to form
@@jesushernandez5551 Sadly, I'm no more skateboarding bro. But I can tell you practice and commitment is the key. For talented skaters like Jonny this is like an intermediate level trick but for the common skaters it tends more to be a hard level trick... so just keep trying and you'll land it. If you break it down, you can see Jonny has a very controlled ollie where he levels the board with his leading foot (pause the video around the 0:51 mark) I think this kind of frees his back foot so that he can flick the board but again thing are not as easy when you do it. Try to adjust your moves and you'll eventually reach somewhere 🤙
I’ve been trying to learn this on and off for years now. This video helps a lot but I still struggle with getting the rotation. I think I hit too fats in the center of the board because it rarely rotates all the way. You make it look soo easy haha
I have recently learned how to pop shuvit late heelflip (find me in instagram @slavuteech_sb , if you want me to proove it) and it is a lot more easier than ollie late heelflip, idk why, but that's true
Can you do dolphin flips, do a dolphin flip in a heel flip front foot position, you dont want to flick out through the nose more up through the nose hitting that sweet spot slightly forward of center, if you push too much edge, the board will over rotate, if too centered it will forward flip and land upside down
Your tutorials are so nice to watch and well explained! I'll have to try this trick this afternoon, I've never tried such a "strange" trick... Greetings from France ^u^
I've watched your older video about this and went out and try this trick, I landed it like 2 times but super sketchy. This video has more information and its better, im gonna try again with this information
I did a kickflip like that yesterday lol , did a ollie then flipped it in the air . Was crazy good . Normally I would be trying to flip it with the ollie . Still just a kickflip but a little different . These tricks look so insane .
counter motion......perfect way to explain ! FU*kING landed my first late flip man , this vid pointed out my bad habits ! Thank you for the gift of a late flip ! ..right en, who's wants a game of skate....
I’ve been doing this trick ever since I got my Ollies down. I never knew the name for it and I never seen anyone else do it so I thought I created a new trick 😭. I called it the “flipkick”
It’s old flat ground tricks that people now do during an Ollie. The first one looks like a varial finger flip… the way Rodney Mullen would’ve done it. Flat ground kickflip, that’s how it was done before ollies were a thing. He’s just using a different toolbox. Last one is a flamingo pivot I think
This isn't that complicated I did these in the 80s but I called it a back foot flip, maybe I was the first? In any case it has to be late because you Ollie first and drag (that's what it feels like) your back foot up the board from the tail and hit the edge with either your heel or your toe depending on if is a late heel or late flip. Did these waiting to go to the vert ramp (I am a very skater primarily).
I already nollie like that!!! 'Whoaaaaa I'm half way there, whoaaaaa late flipping in the air, With this tip, I'll land it I swear, whoaaaa late flipping in the air!!!!'
What is the trick called where you go to a kickflip, but as soon as your board is halfway, you use your front foot to scoop the board lengthwise back towards you. I am gonna try that including this one. Awesome Video🤩. Oh and can this trick also be done in a hardflip style too?
