"Fridge of Wonder"...cracks me up! As a young geologist, I spent a summer Keene dredge testing rivers/streams in California way back in the 1980's. Got paid for camping out, snorkeling and dredging. Tough life! We used a portable seismic 'hammer' unit to map the depths of the gravels. Also got to pick chunks, not small 'pickers', out of cracks in the streambed. Some of them actually made it into the sample bags! Since I worked for the government Bureau of Mines, we drove a Suburban marked with govt lettering. One time we saw an old skinny toothless guy dredging a hole on the Trinity River in northern California. Since there were a lot of angry claim holders and pot growers at the time, and nobody liked the government, my partner and I gingerly asked if we could sample his workings. "Sure" he said. Afterwards we asked what the claim name was to identify where the sample came from. "Hell if I know!" shouted the guy, "I'm poaching!". We got the heck out of there!
Hey Jason, thanks for sharing the adventure. Proves that prospecting involves a lot of testing. Some of those spots look very encouraging ! Best of luck to you and Rigby out there ! 🤠⛏⚒👍👍👍
