There are a number of differences between the R355 and the S355 which give the difference in price:
The S355 has over the R355
    - Quick release clamp
    -Acme thread clamp
-Cast Iron fence with laser etched mitre angle plate with 1 degree markings
    -Cast iron clamp
-Higher spec motor (Longer stack length, larger gauge windings to give a higher heat threashold)
-Higher spec bearings (Double the minimum life requirement)
-Higher spec switch (Higher ampage rating)
-Higher spec rubber cable (also longer as you mention)
-Higher spec blade (Steel specific and higher tooth count as you mention)
That's not to say the R355 is bad, it's just the changes we had to make to hit the lower price point for the orange version and try and bring the saw in at abrassive prices.
Glad you like the saw hope it serves you well, and helps with your hot rod build.
From the Evolution Design Project manager who developed these saws.

@@betweenthesharksgarage No problem, glad to help. We are looking to add some more detail to the website specifically on this as it has been commented on by a few customers that it is difficult to see the difference in spec between the machines.
I am happy to see you and other new customers experience Cold Cut technology, it is always such an eye opening moment for anyone used to abrassive cutting. You'll never go back.

@will will this saw work well for solid stock like 2" stainless round, 4140 rectangular, etc

@@davisw13 It will, you would need to buy a specific Stainless blade for it. However cold cut saws like this are not really an optimum way to cut stainless if you are cutting it regularly or that is all you are cutting. The life of the blades varies A LOT, across all brands. We have recently done a huge testing project for over a year at a number of certification labs with a new improved Stainless blade we are working on and many competitor blades from the likes of Slugger, Milwaukee, Diablo, DeWalt, Morse, Champion and others. All these blades vary in number of cuts substancially, anywhere from as low as 20 cuts per blade, however we did have some reach 300+ but it is highly dependant on many factors including the opperators experience, the environment, temperature, speed of the cut, pressure used ect before even getitng into profile of material and type of stainless.
While it will cut stainless I would make you aware of the above. Fast and hard pressure is the best bet to extend the life so the stainless doesn't work harden. However we have been testing on hollow tube, so solid 2" stainless will really be a challenge. A band saw would be a better bet to be honest, or an industrial wet metal saw with coolant and very slow blade speed but the cost of those is high. Hope this helps.

@willholt100 great info! I neve a small hobby shop in my garage so I'm looking to get a cold cut saw in place of a band saw due to cost and size constraints.
I currently use my mill or lathe to split stainless stock so maybe I'll just have to continue that. I think the cold cut would have saved me a ton of time cutting a 4x4x3 in block of cast iron down yesterday.
I'd love to see a vice block option set perpendicular to the blade axis for thin cuts. Maybe it's not a good idea due to the possibility of the cut pieces becoming projectiles. What do you think?

Every time I've had the blessing of upgrading a tool, satisfaction just flows and the work production does too. Enjoy, my friend. Life just got a nice little nudge in the right direction.

Nice. I was looking on UA-cam for how to convert my abrasive metal chop saw to a evolution type saw. Glad they have some lower priced saws. Nice going! Just ordered one myself. 😂

Man good on ya. I am not affiliated in any way. But I was trying to get that video out because the sale was still on. And I don’t t think you you can beat it, I was looking at how to convert my abrasive saw and then thought. Well. How much is an evolution anyway

after getting in touch with Evolution team and trying to buy one, I got a rejection and concluded that Evolution is cheap company. Poor vision, poor marketing, so I decided to buy Fein, they also have a circulating saw for metal and their chop metal saw is cheaper but 100% outstanding german quality top-notch.

When you say you "got a rejection" what do you mean? Fein aren't made in Germany just so you know they are off shelf saws from Asia.

Aren't those things great! Not too long ago, 25 years, a decent, not great, abrasive saw was $170 to $250. Now, for less than the top of that mediocre range, you have a much better cold saw! As far as I have ever seen, there are no abrasive blades that will cut square through 120 wall 2X3. That is no longer a problem for you.

Dude. My abrasive saw and band saw were both hand me downs and I am super thankful for them if I got a ton of hand me down stuff over the years and I appreciate everybody that has given it to me as they upgraded. But when I was searching for a replacement for the bandsaw because I just couldn’t fight it anymore. I spent a lot of hours working on it off camera. I never considered a cold saw type thing because they’ve always been so expensive. So kudos to evolution and UA-cam.
