- The lawyer for Karen Garner, the 73-year-old Loveland woman forcibly arrested last year by Loveland police, has released a new video that she said shows the officers involved neglected to provide Garner with medical attention despite knowing she was injured.

That part particularly disgusted me as well. Mrs Garner was chained to that bench with a broken arm and dislocated shoulder while they checked themselves for scratches. Did you know the two arresting Austin Hopp and Daria Jalali were having an illicit affair? In court Jalali actually claimed to be too stupid to understand that beating an old woman is wrong. I agree, but I don't think that particularly type of stupidity is much of a defense. I guess she was too stupid to understand adultery is wrong as well. They moved in together (while he was still married) and their neighbors reported Hopps several times for speeding through the neighborhood even doing so on Halloween endangering the children out trick or treating. He is also an absentee deadbeat dad. Most divorced Dads want more time, he wanted less and said twice a month is inconvenient. What a piece of garbage and waste of space..
@@pippadawg7037 all you said is accurate but I think they comment that normal because cops are used to do that not because they are psychological unstable (even if they are), they are use to charge people of felonies and it does not matter if they do not obey the law. Just like recently the case of Mr. Hodges who were arrested just because and the cops receive a funny punishment, just few days of suspensions. Cops know there wont be any consequence if they trample civilians, it is just how it works. This case had consequences because she was a WASP. Imagine the case of people who are immigrant, black or any other subordinate status (like homeless, whores or drug-addicts), they would never receive any kind of justice.

They’re only sworn to serve and protect property, not people. The only solution is to end qualified immunity, make them personally responsible, and the citizens have a right to destroy their families as they have done to citizens. They’d change really quickly if their money and families are on the line. Also they need to be required to perform 40 hours community service monthly, and only earn minimum wage for at least a period of two years. If their families don’t like it, tough.

The female cop was the only one showing any kind of concern, but the thin blue line kept here from condemning her colleagues. She was uncomfortable watching the video and even put her hands in her face and said, "this is going to turn into something." She also went down and checked on the lady in the holding cell and came back and told them she was complaining of hurting really bad. But they did nothing for her. 6 hours before she was taken to the hospital. What is next for these cops? Kicking babies? Probably have, torturing small animals, in their pasts.

When they brought up her date of birth, the arresting creep said 'Yeah, she's ancient!' And he was puffing proud to have beaten up an elderly 80 pound lady. He also was asked if she was intoxicated or on drugs and he said something to the effect of no but that he didn't think she was quite right. She greeted him with a SMILE and he took her to the ground. Why didn't he talk to her kindly and walk her home? Why couldn't he call her children once she was there and tell them the situation? And ask someone to go settle up with the store and then someone to come see to their mom. He could have done a number of kind and caring things to have left her feeling like she had a new friend. He could have left her children grateful and relieved at how the officer had protected her and kept her safe. The store would have been understanding of that. Is there anyone who believes she shoplifted? She had a lapse, perhaps a focal seizure, a moment of forgetting what she was doing or still needed to do. This can happen with dementia or any form of small vessel disease in the brain. I know. I am there.

The physical damage suffered by Ms. Garner is bad enough, but she suffered a trauma she has no way to recover from, due to her form of dementia. I sincerely hope her attorneys make it crystal clear in court that those junkyard dogs who attacked her, ended her life as she knew it. They need to be re-investigated, fired, charged with assault and battery and put in prison. They are three Derek Chauvins and should be treated like it.

There is virtually no human who isn’t going to resist being jumped on. And Hopp said he “threw her on the ground a few times and tried to frisk her!” No male cop has the right to touch a woman like that. The female cop is supposed to frisk if there’s any frisking to be done of any female.
And all of this over a $14 misunderstanding. It is sickening! Disgraceful! Appalling! All of those cops deserve prison.

I retired from LE at age 59 and they were already calling me Gramps and T-Rex. All the young ones wanted me gone. They thought I was taking up a good spot that a younger person should have. They gave me no credit or respect for my 33 years of service and all the experience I had over them. Since retiring, I've only heard from two people in the whole department. I'm not surprised though, once you're out, you are out. Takes less than a week for your name to not be mentioned anymore. If you're not active duty, and one of them, they have no use for you. They'll drop you like a hot potato. I think that's sad after spending decades backing these people up, helping them solve problems, relying on each other in fights, etc., and then overnight you no longer exist to them. My Chief and Assistant Chief still call and check on me and sometimes make plans so we can go places on their weekends off. That's about it.
The male officer who injured the lady got 5 years in prison (if I remember correctly) and the female officer who was with him and didn’t intervene ended up getting 45 days in jail. Plus the town settled for $3 million.
On a personal note, I hope they all make it to the age of 73 and go through what the elderly have to.

Their lawyers could reasonably argue they were simply untrained in dementia, but when they acknowledge that they knew she probably had a dislocated shoulder and yet they kept her in handcuffs behind her back and cuffed to a bench while they laughed and did paperwork, that is when they need to do some time in jail.
They mentioned that she might just be “out of it” when considering whether she was under the influence but they didn’t care enough to pursue the possibility.

What hurts me here is that she repeatedly said she paid for the items. So I'm assuming she walked out with them thinking they were already paid for.
She was not brain dead. She told them her birth date and where she was born in Illinois. She carried a wallet with a credit card to buy things. She regularly walked back and forth between her house and that store by herself.
She was trying to live a semi normal life. She raised a wonderful family and lived her whole life as a responsible person with no criminal record. They had no business treating her like a criminal piece of trash.

The difference in quality of the police response and behavior in this case is remarkable.
