Blue Monday will ALWAYS sound like the future of music, no matter what decade it's played.
totally, it's a timeless song.
Totally 🎉
Ironic you say this, because in 2023 house producers are still sampling 70's disco. smh
I remember the first time I heard New Order. It was '85 or '86, which is when they got some notoriety in the States outside clubland. A guy I worked with was always raving about them and I told him that I wasn't impressed by them (not the way I was impressed by Joy Division) because to me they sounded like everybody else. Dude looked at me and said, _"you've got it backwards. It's everyone that sounds like them."_ Took me a couple of years to understand what that meant, but by '88 I was using Type IV Metal tapes for their music.
Simply the greatest song ever made
Everyone at the club would flock to the dance floor when this song came on... no matter what club, what type of music they played...when Blue Monday came on... goth/punk/whatever..we all danced.
Fuck yeah!
So true, back in late 80's I used to dj in some bars. This was my goto song to pack the floor, I would then follow it up with Company B-Fasinacted to step it up. I had them girls in their white heels, acid wash jeans and foot tall fair dancing away.
BLUE MONDAY has the electronic dance influence from Disco
The longest dance ever too. We were so sweaty. After go outside and smoke a clove😂 80’s🙌
This is a prime example of how great the music was in the 1980's, the time when New Wave music came out and all of them are great.
New Wave came out in the 70 s originally
Incredibly musically spoiled but we had no idea
Yes Gillian, it absolutely still sound's fresh when you play it, and it always will!
New Order is the soundtrack of my life. Love these guys and what they did for music back then and for the future.
New Order, if you guys are reading this- you changed the world! One of the best songs of ALL TIME, it's been with me through good times, bad times, and helped me push myself in extremely challenging circumstances
Had the opportunity meet Gillian and Stephen and they were brilliant. Lovely couple, told her how much of an inspiration she was to me, she got so flattered.
blue Monday is one of the best songs ever period.
I was in England when it came out. Heard it in a nightclub and was absolutely stunned. As a 'faithful' follower of JD and all of NO's records up until then, it seemed like a monumental leap into a future no-one knew the band had in them. Immediately went out and bought the 12". Still have it to this day. :-)
I've still got that original 12" too...are the labels on the vinyl on the wrong sides? I've got all those N.O. records from the 80's...on the run-outs on the vinyl, there was always a written message.
@@mana3735 Hi, just had a look and no, my labels are correct. The run-out says "Strawberry Out Voted!" Apparently, "Out Voted" refers to an error made by the Strawberry engineer, who brought up the fader too late and missed the first drumbeat. New Order took a vote as to whether the mistake should stay, and the yes vote prevailed. :-)
@@DavidInSugarLand There was a batch of Blue Monday records that went out with the inner labels on the wrong wides...I've got one of those! I don't think they're worth anything, though. I'm gonna have to dig out all my N.O records now...just to read the messages!
Mana Mine are printed on the wrong sides as well.
@@freshwaterfishman I wonder how many there was?
New Order and Erasure blew my mind and changed my life back in the day.
Blue Monday is a classic iconic song that will always play. It will forever be identified to the 80s. I saw New Order three times in the Summer of 2019. They are fantastic, live.
Without Peter?
I've seen them a couple of times recently. It's so sad to see how they've fallen, nothing more than their own tribute band nowadays. The joy of seeing New Order back in the day was how absolutely ramshackle they could be, they're now so perfect and bland it's just not the same.
@@andreat.2809 Oh, just let Gillian and Steve automate a bassist for heaven’s sake.
I first saw NO live at Blackburn King George’s hall in the mid 80s, brilliant gig .Saw them several times since but not recently within the past 10 years. Would be interested to see them now but I’d imagine they’re too professional as compared to their younger selves. Also saw them at Gmex festival of the 10th Anniversary of punk in 1986 where they headlined and first heard BLT live . One of the best gigs of my life.
I have a chance to see them this October at the Hollywood Bowl and I cannot wait!
No matter how young or old you are.
How old school or new school people are.
You just know that ‘Blue Monday’ is good and never gets old.
EXACTLY!!!!
Was in Manchester some years ago, checking the night life. This song was played in every damn club we went to. After all these years. Good job, I'd say!
Blue monday in Wonder Woman 1984
Blue Monday in Ready Player One
Blue Monday in Atomic Blonde
Blue Monday in Black Ops: Cold War
Blue Monday in Deutschland 83
Blue Monday in GTA VC Stories
This song is definitely the world of Music
You forgot the intro of "Deutschland 83".
Also GTA VC
Ghivi Fahmi *GTA VC Stories*
The song itself could also ask us all, “How does it feel? To treat me like you do (putting me in so many movies and games/events)
And 99% of those people have never hear of Clan of Xymox give, (Stranger) by them a listen shame they never made it big.
I like Temptation, Perfect Kiss, Bizarre Love Triangle, True Faith, Thieves like us, regret, blue Monday, 1963 touched by the hand of God, err i think i really love them all.. After all these years, i still do.
They're all good. Truth Faith has a special place in my heart.
So, basically you're a casual who just bought their greatest hits.
@@thadonis. bugger off elitist
video version of Perfect Kiss is perfect and superior to LP/Single versions
Joy Division was the clay that formed the statue known as New Order and Blue Monday was the track that did it. It has stood the test of time like no other dance track in the history of music and it stands atop a mountain of music that has made New Order the greatest pop group performing today.
I remember hearing it on the radio, the same day went to the record shop to buy it. They said who. I told them it was going to be massive and could they order it in for me.
Had to wait a week lol
March 1983.
*Technique* will always be peak New Order for me. I just love that record from start to finish.
The song that changed ELECTRONIC DANCE music.
Other songs before Blue Monday have also an impact on the electronic dance music. Song like Donna Summer - I Feel Love and Visage - Fade to Grey.
Blue Monday: The national anthem of night clubs.
Everyone... got up... off to the dance floor.
Love seeing Gillian on the best studio of them all with all her modular gear behind...
I listen to this song constantly. Usually while mountain biking on rough trails and the volume spiked. But, then again I was listening to it the same way back in the 80's.
This song change the direction of music I would listen to. I was a drum and guitars type of music and didn't think electronic music was any good. This opened my eyes.
My wife isn’t much for clubs and noise and dancing, but New Order compilations, especially this song are her fave horizontal tango soundtrack, therefore mine too.
Blue Monday was the best song of the 80's ! " I still find it so hard , to say what I mean to say " 🎶
There was no single song of the 80's that was "the best", such a thing simply isn't possible.
I Feel Love by Donna Summer in 1977 was ground zero for what Blue Monday later became.
Agreed. Donna Summer did the real work..both awesome though.
Electronic type of Disco was the influence
A hit? It’s THE HIT guys... what a track!!! Still relevant in 2020 and will be relevant in 2100 and beyond....
Blue Monday = Best song ever!!!
True Faith?!!!!!!🌁🌁
I love this song too
@@maxwellsmart6487 that's a good one too!!! 👌🏻
@@katerichardson4308 Do is your New Order's favourite?
Blue Monday is forever and universal! If you never have listened to this song you are not from this Planet! God bless all New Order members! 🇬🇧❤️🇧🇷
I was 16 in 1983 and my brother in law made me a mix tape with Blue Monday on it abd when i heard it i was thinking WTF! Listening to that track over and over that day i thought my life couldn't get any better👊 And it hasn't really🤣
When Blue Monday came on I went over to my mate who was the DJ in a club in Melbourne Australia called The Underground and said what is this track it's out of this world. The sound was mind blowing and nearly 40 years later it still sounds incredible. Thank you New Order love you guys so much !
Blue Monday, The Beach and Confusion... amazing!
Hi there, I´m Thorsten from Germany, that time "blue monday" came over to Germany, the " new German wave" huge and nearly no english song was in our Charts. Your Song broke that eara in a way that never happened before I would say. I wanna say thanks for these super sounding moments in school paries, discotheques and still listening on my Phone. Thanks to you all and thanks for all yout great songs.
Then you got David Hasselhoff and we got Nena. Swings and roundabouts..
@@jamescaley9942 In Mr. Hasselhoffs mind he opend the border to east Germany and Nena stoped all wars with 99 red ballons ;o)
In my opinion Blue Monday was the real 80s hit and still is a big song
Neil Tennant cried when he heard 'Blue Monday'
Maybe... I guess he responded with West End Girls.
I'm not sure if this is true but it apparently made Dave Stewart of Eurythmics go back and redo an entire album because he felt 1-upped.
@@joeogle7729 Also, Kraftwerk were apparently bamboozled by how New Order had made Blue Monday sound they way it did.
In past 30 years, every DJ on planet had/have Blue Monday track.
In 100 years this would be thought in schools as "classical music"
At a synth convention, a guy had a Linn Drum, doing the dum dum dubba dubba dubba dubba...
I jumped on a synth, and played the bassline.
Great memory.
I was in Spain that summer and every club, every bar, every night belting out Blue Monday. Sitting on the balcony late at night Blue Monday wafted out into the warm night air, fantastic.
I actually was the DJ playing the record the first time I heard Blue Monday in a club. A friend had got hold of a white label and I was a New Order fan, so I just put it on pretty much blind. I heard the rapid fire kick drum in my cueing headphones and thought I had it on at the wrong speed as the previous single, 'Temptation' played at 33. That was in March 1983 and god knows how many times I've heard it since.
But it didn't exist in isolation. If you'd been listening to the more electronic end of disco, the clues were there - particularly in Patrick Cowley's productions.
New order was the best of the best.❤
Nice that they finally got Gillian to talk.
Blue Monday was playing when my Daughter Gemma was born 9 years ago
Glad to see Peter Hook in this! I wish him and Bernie would just bury the darn hatchet already..
Bernie is too busy with US politics. Barney on the other hand....
@@Eightball69 :P
@@Eightball69 I think US politics is even beyond Bernie’s hands/capabilities, these days 😭
@@moretoknowshow1887 Too late, I'm afraid. A lot of words have been changed. And I think Gillian isn't that innocent.
Never going to happen im afraid
Was 1985 ,13 years old .. radio i heard, .blue monday ..boom ,i jump ..of joy .. remenber i miss you n order. .from ..brasil South América thanks neworder 2020🎈🇧🇷😷👏👏
Anyone else just want to take them out for a beer? So cool and lovable.
One of the greatest bands ever & the reason I make music today.
It’s on my playlist and I can listen to it everyday to get anything done I need to do.
All NO' songs I like, specially The Perfect Kiss, Blue Monday, Bizarre Love Triangle, Paradise and more but I love someone like you 👌 Great job my forever favourite band 🙏😃
Till this day, people will RUN to the dance floor when this song comes on in the clubs!!! It's one of those timeless songs that'll NEVER die!!!!!
Then, it was music of the future...one of the best 80's songs....... Thanks NEW ORDER..
This song will never die. Ever. Thanks for the memories...then now and in the future
The beat of this song is so great.
The humbleness is awesome
Blue Monday was so good and so different when it came out.
Me and my mates kept hearing it on the radio but didn't catch what it was called, it was like a mission to find out it's name and which band it was so we could go buy it. It was so special at the time.
I bought the 12” single version of Blue Monday. It is an iconic piece of music.
Alphaville " Dance with Me " Bronski Beat " Smalltown Boy " The Cult " She sells " & " Rain " ... The 12' list could go on, more innocent time, and before the assault on humanity that is the internet age
I love these people.. They 're so beautiful!
It changed the way I feel about music from the the very first hearing. It is a bit of a singularity. It is pure joy to hear these interviews from the band.
On my bucket list.....
Having tea with Gillian and Stephen.
Fond memories dancing to Blue Monday at the Palladium in San Francisco in the 80’s. I’ve never seen NO live, but definitely on my bucket list!
Always New Order will lead us for 80' Magic.
We were enjoy every friday night in Dark amaizing club in Tel Aviv. To listen New order was a real cermony. Miss the 80.. to sad.

Berlin nightclub or Australian outback travelling, it fits everywhere.
New Order always did a brilliant job with their songs!
What can I say? The state of the art, a unique and rare piece in the whole 80's panorama. I love this piece but even more I love everything that comes out of these guys, you are my personal soundtrack ... I run to listen to me Academic extended mix !!!
Blue Monday is timeless.
This song definitely got me into the band!
I was a Freshman in HS. The best memories surround this song. A friend and I were fortunate to meet Bernard on the set of Baywatch for Top of the Pops for the release of Regret! Still one of my favourite N.O. songs!
He was super cool to us and talked to us for awhile. He asked us if we liked,” New Order?” We replied Yes, but said we were fans of, “The Cure!!”😂not to let on that we also were fans of New Order!
Quite strangely, recently I’ve been listening to the album Technigue. An aIbum I never gave a chance too, but seriously digging and enjoying daily. New Order definitely stands the test of time. My daughter who is a Jr in HS loves the band as well. We both agree to listen to them in the car and they are on our mother/daughter play list! Such a great band and the best driving music!
I must admit I also discarded Technique soon after buying it. Recently I've been listening to it again, especially Weirdo.
That is too cute!
Some music does not need promotions. It just works so well to become top by itself.
What a brilliant song.
Not a connoisseur by a mile, but the song came to me in the layers that the writer was describing as gears.
Hence me looking it up. So good. Thanx
I saw them 5 times during the eighties great band. Its still fresh today.....
So choice. I love New Order. Everything Bernard has touched is a staple of my playlists.
I remember hearing this back in the day and thinking: this is the future of music. Now it's in the past.
It still sounds futuristic to me.
Blue Monday is great, but The Perfect Kiss my fav
The Perfect Kiss is the best 12" record of the 80's IMHO
I agree 👌
I agree with you
Same! And bizarre Love Triangle
Matthew Ford BLT is #1 for me, even though the music video for TPK has such a legendary last half, the vocals are off for me and lower in the list a bit imo
Me: playing the "octa" bassline from "Blue Monday" on my Microkorg.
My friends: dancing all over my room :D
Absolutely my favorite song, period!!!
UTTERLY ICONIC. Pure Genius!
What a fantastic tune.........in the 80s as soon as this tune came on ,everybody was on the dance floor...great times..
Could watch this all day, endlessly
One of my all time favorite songs❤️❤️❤️❤️
When I first heard this song I was 22 at the time I went nuts I got the single the 12 inch single and the album it brought the 80s alive for me
Traveling back from london back in the 80's, junc 34 M1 and THIS came on Radio 1. Sits up there in my top 10 D.I.Ds
Wat a tune 12" verison is amazing 🎶🎶🎶
It's a beautiful song.
I’m just stoked to see Gillian’s modular setup! Furthrrrr Generator spotted!
timeless and so influential.
Such an epic track. So influential on the dance music that later followed.
Joy Division changed music
New Order changed music
Music changed music

Basically... Peter Hook
Symatics changed music.
Best song ever...
Fantastic tune
One of my fav trakks of all times ----- luv it so much .... incredible danceable stuff, steaming-pumping-pulsing sound :: quite unique - in one word: a brilliant piece of music
My pirate station was called radio blue monday. Started every broadcast with this song.
This is one of greatest world songs,👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I called it retro classic.. Absolutely great world of music.. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
No matter where you are, when this song starts, you need to get up and dance!
It got air play...on college radio...that's where I heard it and everyone else heard it but I was the one who found that giant floppy disc and still own it to this day...that and Power, Corruption and Lies changed everything. They opened the door to so many bands and inspired just as many more. The 80's were a truly terrible time but the music was a big part of what helped us get through it.
Blue Monday just has the ~it~ that makes it rise above other electronica songs
I lived in the club's in the eighties. Still amazing.
It's the relentless drive of the track.. It's just as compelling now (2020) as when it was released. Still love it, still listen to it! Thank You New Order!
New Order was a top 3 80s band for me.
My favourite song of all time ❤️🙂 how intensively not matching the elderly age in this video, but only the eternal youth
An all time classic
Thank you guys for this GREAT song 👌
