    I'm glad releasing every 2 months works as a strategy, because if you think about it, it fits a reasonable songwriting/production schedule and budgeting for any artist, even if you're not doing it full time yet. Basically there's no excuse. :)

      Budgeting I do not agree. If you are in a genre that you need to record live drums and send all tracks for mixing and mastering you have to record as many songs at once as possible to make it economically viable.
      But after that yes, just sit on it for a while and release one every two months

      Carlos Costa Good point, I wouldn’t have thought about that. It’s always better to spend more up front if it saves in the long run imo

    I understand this, but personally, as a consumer/listener of music, I'm always disappointed if there's only a single being released. Sometimes I even hold myself back from listening, to wait for the whole album.
    As a music consumer I hate singles. As a creator, I can see the fun.

    • @switchghost2413
      @switchghost2413 3 роки тому

      I find myself with the same dilemma. As fans, myself and my friends are way more interested in albums than singles. On the other hand, this mostly applies to bands and artists that we already know and want to hear more of. It's probably safe to assume that people who have never heard my music before will only listen to one or two songs before deciding whether they like it or not.

      @@switchghost2413Singles are in a way little taste bites. What if I like it, nothing else there.
      I put out a single recently. It stands on its own. I have two other albums available. But I will not do one single after another. Artistically I don't like it.

    My band has a 6 track album that we are going to release as individual singles, with either a lyric video or a performance video for every song. Releasing each song on the 1st of each month over a 6 month period, with the album printed on vinyl as a limited release for people to buy, and the vinyl has a bonus track.
    I’m praying it works.

    I like what you're saying Maddy but from an artist perspective I think a point has been missed here: just because a song is album or EP worthy (in the traditional sense) definitely does not make it single worthy, and I see alot of artists making this mistake. In the past, a few strong singles from the front half of an album or EP release were enough to support the whole release - but now each individual single needs to be strong enough to stand on its own (which is very hard to do right) if you are going to release in this fashion. If it isn't then you are failing yourself and really shooting yourself in the foot. In the long term this is likely changing the way in which music is made. It isn't to say that either way is right or wrong but just remember that an EP or album is an art piece that requires ebb and flow: highs, lows, fast, and slow

    • @Burstimo
      @Burstimo  4 роки тому +2

      Interesting comment actually, not one we've thought about massively, mainly because most artists believe every track is single worthy!

      T.Lopea: I have been submitting 2 singles per week, every friday, upto complete the ten songs of the album. This helps you in the way that the songs that could be no so strong as being a single are not alone. The only downside I see on this way of doing is that the list of albums and singles become a jungle with excesive items I think for people is interested in know your work
      Burstimo: What about the better day of the week for submitting a single?

    • @theo_lopea
      @theo_lopea 4 роки тому +1

      @@lrn-vitoria403 that's a great idea. Vampire Weekend did something similar but a bit more spaced out, for their latest album. You can also keep the re-use the ISRC codes for singles on the scheduled album release and it will make them show up correctly in the store (DistroKid)

Should I release every song as a single (meaning that the first people to get on my profile will only be able to listen to one song) or should I drop the full album and continue with your strategy afterwards? i noticed things like this have worked for new and old bands who tend to make pop indie rock, EDM hip hop but when it comes to more underground music genres like industrial/EBM black and death metal fans tend to expect albums and lagging behind the trends of what mainstream music followers. Also age range of fan based is important to know an older fan based like what U2 has would go for albums and physical things while i can't think drake fans would be too bothered having physical things or full length albums

    I've been inspired by an artist on instagram who puts out 2 tracks a month, but it may be a bit excessive? The quality stays the same as I'm usually not using more than a week on a track, but there may be other pitfalls, such as submitting to Spotify editorial playlists. It's recommended to do submit at least 4 weeks before the release, which means every second track won't get the opportunity. So bit of a wobble.

    I did this a little with my last release. Four singles released before the album, one more after the album's release. It's taken me about five months since that last single dropped (September 2019) to compose, arrange, write and record enough new material (and to earn enough money) to start a similar strategy for a new EP. My question is how do you constantly put out and promote music without going into creative fatigue? Or without breaking the bank?

      Keep promoting it. Check your dashboard and pay attention to your lifetime listener/save ratio for that track. You will need that to be at least 3%, but the higher the better. If that number looks good, check the number of playlists your track is in. If it's under 100, that may be the problem. Spotify claims they use the songs around the track in playlists to determine the right audience for Discover Weekly. If your track is not in enough playlists, Spotify will say there isn't enough data. It doesn't matter what playlist it is. You can make some yourself and pin them to your profile. We have been engaging with fans though DMs and asking them to create playlists. We also are running a fan-of-the-month contest with a shared and tagged playlist as the entry. Our number of playlists is slowly climbing. We are also promoting the track with Facebook Ad manager on Instagram.
      Once you have all of those things, "hotness" may be a factor. Run some Instagram ads to optimize for a low CPC (even if it includes places like India) and push for streams for a week or so. $.05 a click should get you quite a lot for $5 or $10 a day. Then there is this magic moment when you have the right number of saves, followers, streams, and playlists to get into Discover Weekly. No one knows what that is, but people have posted on Reddit that they got into Discover Weekly with 8,000 streams so it's not the sheer number of streams alone. If none of this works, you can take it down and re-release it, but you should give this approach a try first because it will build up your Spotify and Instagram followers anyway which will help if you do decide to re-release it.
      New releases will go into Release Radar for all of your Spotify followers which counts as playlists, so 200 Spotify followers means your next release will automatically be in 200 playlists on day one. A poorly promoted first release misses out on this Release Radar bump. We had the same problem and will probably re-release the second track after we get our Spotify followers up, but we think the first track is close.
