I first heard them and in like 2011 with From a Window Seat. Got Dire Straits classic rock vibes right away and I’ve been hooked on them since. They are definitely underrated and are true song writers
Neither Dawes or this song are underrated. They are considered on of the best bands in the americana-scene and one the most successful. They have regular sold-out tours and this is one of their most successful and popular songs among their fans. Now, compared to huge pop-artist they are lesser known, but that's another matter. But Dawes and this song "underrated"? By those who have heard it? No way. Seems like you don't understand what "underrated" actually means.
@@LodvarDude It’s been 9 years and the video hasn’t even broken 2 million views. Never heard it on a radio station even once. Does leaving comments like yours make you feel better about yourself? Because you just come off as arrogant.
Not sure exactly when, do not know how and I only sort of understand why this song snuck up on me and is now my favorite song of all time, I am an old man (well, I am 55), I know a LOT of songs, I've had some amazing favorite songs but now my most favorite song ever is Things Happen by Dawes and I am totally okay with that...
Yeah instant fan status...then I saw them live at the vogue Indianapolis...wow!!! Crowd made the floor wobble as we jumped up and down to when the tequila runs out!
I found them with this tune and I was soooooooooo depressed. I was going through it, having lost 2 brothers and battling my own deamons... My list was long and lots was happening to me. Today things don't happen to me, but they do happen
Here in Jan 2025, after reading about the band’s losses in the LA fires. Things happen, I guess. A great band, and I hope they produce more music - like the one album that barely survived the fire.
Another winner from Dawes. How does Taylor Goldsmith keep doing it so well so consistently? We are really fortunate for his lyrics and music and the whole band, there are not a lot of other bands with this combination of great music and great lyrics (maybe Head and the Heart IMO). Can't wait for the rest of the album!
Not sure what this song is about but I like it. Makes me think of my high school sweetheart even though it was way past my time. :) So glad I still have her.
Song got me through one of the most depressing times in my life, best friend/Co worker was a snake and got myself fired while the woman I loved left me. I was down, listened to this constantly. I wasn't out though, thanks Dawes!
Have you heard "A Little Bit of Everything"? That song changed my life! The good with the bad in life. "It's the suggested daily dosage, it's the red moon when it's full."
Just stumbled upon Dawes on NPR, and I am sold. All Your Favorite Bands had me weeping with fond remembrance, and every other song on the album, including this one, is BRILLIANT.
I heard this song on WFUV and totally fell in love! When I found that this was the official video, I was a little surprised because I felt that other images/storylines could have gone better with the lyrics and feel of the song, but after watching the whole thing, I see it is totally perfect in its own right. Absolutely hilarious, touching and beautiful. I love how each of the guys in the band play a street performer character! Made me tear up at the end. Tears of happiness. What a beautiful song. I look forward to MANY different videos expressing this amazing song. I hope any THINGS that HAPPEN in my life, and the world in general, are as awesome as this song.
It really is. I just discovered Dawes this year, Many times, for myself anyway, you have to hear new music/songs a few times both you realize how good a song is. Not with Dawes, their songs are so unique and exceptional you get pulled in immediately and never want to let go.
The songwriting and musicianship, arrangement and execution… top shelf, basically among the best ever in pop/rock music. But many of the videos are incredibly good as well, they don’t detract from the music or suggested different unrelated concepts and meaning, and they’re engaging to watch. The characters played by the bandmembers are poignant and funny and you guys don’t look awkward and uncomfortable like so many bands have over the decades. You guys have something really fantastic going on and I am in awe of whoever is responsible
I think *soToo:))* - Just:)LOVELY! - hmmp.. but DO *you* think That: THINGS HAPPEN:) - and please.. *IF* you *'dont* beliave in words' then *Watch* 'my video.. - ' Perfect Day Vol.5.120514 ' - ..All those so SWEETthings you'll be missing'.. - a *fair* DEAL? ..hmmp;))
That's when i first heard them, too. I said "I just found my new, favorite Indy band!" It's 2022 & I still love their stuff. They are timeless! Just re-discovered "OK GO!" Great!
Thank you Dawes.... you guys are explosive. ...balanced....on point. Reminded me of a young Eagles....? 'that L.A. sound all over again...' :-) Many thanks for coming back to Boise..... we are well aware of the hassle to get here. You sound FANTASTIC live. Namaste/shalom.... peace & safe tour! T
Been watching this video countless times. When he arrives at the party, I always laugh and cry at the same time. Reminds me that everyone needs to be seen and celebrated every once in a while. Even me. I'm trying too hard to not need anyone. Let's be kind.

My friend passed away at 26 in a motorcycle accident last week. At his funeral this song played along with when my time comes and before that i have never heard of this band but i understand why he loved them so much. This really is a great song. True all i can think of is his life but this song describes him so well. Great song. R.I.P. Zach you will be missed.
Im not sure of the context that led to this songs creation... But to me its always been the "Guy who has to listen to his GF complain about her day, while you quietly have to deal with your own stress" anthem.
A million likes! Who hasn't known someone that this song describes perfectly? I mean, there's always some self-loathing, self-pity-party throwing person. I love the meaning of this song.
Such an underrated song. First heard it in like 2014-2015, still listen to it during hard times and it really gets me in my feels.

"Let's raise a glass to all the people you're not speaking to..." Very pleasant voice. Nice tune.
🥂
Never heard of this guy before, but heard the song on the radio today.
This is mind blowing.
+RHYS PEREGRINE Easily one of if not the best lyricists I know.
Me neither. His married to Mandy Moore since 2018.
You are listening to the right radio station my friend.
I wish I had a radio station who plays music like this where I live
This was the first song I ever heard by Dawes, this made me fall in love with someone, and the band
"Sometimes we're lovers, sometimes we're friends..."
Same here. They played this one night on Letterman and I was instantly hooked.

Kinda the opposite of the song so that is awesome
'92 baby here. Just discovered this song 2-26-2022. Instantly addicted.
I've of the saddest, most uplifting songs I've ever heard. If this can't stir your soul then nothing will.
Just beautiful.
How is this song not known?
First time listening to it and the beauty is amazing.
I heard this song for the first time in someone movie. I liked it.

Dawes has quickly become my favorite contemporary band. Taylor Goldsmith is a brilliant songwriter. I love this new song.

Ugg...every line in this song...its my life, my thoughts, everything.
This song makes me feel so nostalgic for some reason. Idk why it gives me an 80s vibe :)
Powerful, REAL song about life. Great job, and thank you, Dawes!
I love that Taylor can channel the spirit of an excited young child.
Love the Dawes. Many of their songs feels like a story more than a song. Reminded me of some of the best alternative songs in the 90’s
Wow I was like this guy took the words out of my mouth. That was my comment 11 months ago lol
Not sure how this slipped through the cracks, but just hearing this now. Favorite song atm instantly.
Just heard this in a café for the umpteenth time, and I finally typed up the lyrics on Google to find out who sang it.
Perfect ear candy!
Not sure what this song is about but I like it. Makes me think of my high school sweetheart even though it was way past my time. :) So glad I still have her.
Taylor's Charlie Chaplin impression is by far the best part of the video.
Beautiful song. Thank you Dawes.
I love Dawes!
#1 Dawes
#2 Frank Turner
#3 Mumford and Sons
#4 The Killers
Song got me through one of the most depressing times in my life, best friend/Co worker was a snake and got myself fired while the woman I loved left me. I was down, listened to this constantly. I wasn't out though, thanks Dawes!
Absolutely marvelous video!
How the Beatle actor kept a straight face through all of that is beyond me.
Love! Should be the theme song for most of the people I know.
Means so, so much to me. Thank you guys for lifting me out of mire
Have you heard "A Little Bit of Everything"? That song changed my life! The good with the bad in life. "It's the suggested daily dosage, it's the red moon when it's full."
Raising My Glass!! THX for coming to my town of Walla Walla, WA DAWES!!
Best song I've heard this year.
Just stumbled upon Dawes on NPR, and I am sold. All Your Favorite Bands had me weeping with fond remembrance, and every other song on the album, including this one, is BRILLIANT.
So true! Their songs really hit me right in the heart! Consistently.
His facial expression a perfect sum of this song. I know that feeling all too well. It's on my list
Just discovered Dawes, made my day.....I can see them becoming a bit of a Music Obsession
3:22 "Why are Moms compelled to bronze their baby shoes?" That is why I love this band, good harmony and clever lyrics.
How do people hate this song!? It’d so goooood❤️
Awesome song, awesome band,....Nothing happened without a reason, think about it in a still moment.

So true. This is one video that absolutely detracts from the song. The song is great.
One of the greatest songs I ever heard. Love it.

I really like this song but the video is so touching. Partly funny, partly sad, lovely conclusion. Love it.
So amazing, so relatable

I really like it when they throw the party for the guy at the end, sweet

Just saw Dawes perform this on Letterman. As usual, great vocals and drums.
And this really sounds like a Todd Rundgren song.

Excellent. Should've been a global hit.
Funny to think the drummer went to my high school. This is a really good song! Really uplifting. Keep up the good work! 👍
Isn't the drummer the lead singer's brother?
