Hi how long have you been sewing? I'm 71 and started sewing on a hand Singer when I was ten. The big thing with sewing is lots of practice before you sew the item you want to sew neatly. I have had many machines, domestic and industrial. My domestic machines were made in Switzerland. The industrial machines were like most industrial machines a machine with a huge motor and a oil bath. Presently I thought I would treat myself to a Bernina electronic. But not Swiss made anymore, rubbish made somewhere in the east. All the modern machines made somewhere in the east. Your machine is a modern Singer and it is a domestic machines with a bigger motor. The work you are doing needs to be a Juki industrial machine. It is the only machine, made in Japan, that you will never have a bird's nest or any of those problems, because the feeder dogs and the strength of the motor work together. These machines also have wonderful foot controls and also next to the foot control a pedal that lifts the foot of the machine, so when going around a sharp point like your leather straps, you don't have to lift the foot with your hand all the time. You can get Juki or any other industrial machines for not that much and you will never look back. I had a manufacturing business, and I suffer to sew on a domestic machine like the Bernina I spent a lot of money. Take it from an old lady, the machine does the work, and practice, practice, practice on scrap. Hope you get a real industrial machines for your lovely work. Good to see young people do hand work. I watch many videos where people work with leather and there machines go through layers of leather with real thick top stitching thread. Good luck.
You are probably right, but I don't feel ready yet for an industrial machine; I'm still trying to squeeze more out of my good old Singer HD. And there is a lot more juice to squeeze ! Just this morning, as I was researching walking foot sewing machines (per your recommendation) I discovered there is a walking foot presser foot that i can actually mount on my Singer HD ! And what's more I even happen to have one stashed away ! I'm sewing so much better now ! What a crazy upgrade !
❤You saved me from going to the “Sewing Machine Doctor”! You saved my bird’s nest PROBLEM to finish my project!!😊
Happy to know this is helping people !🙂

Thank you very much! May I know how to determine the sizes of needles for different thickness materials?
Thank you for you videos, big fan. What adjustable presser foot are you using?
