Slow down the Singer Heavy Duty Series on some USA Versions

- This video is about how I slowed down the Singer Heavy Duty Series USA Versions I own.
PLEASE NOTE! This could possibly VOID your warranty. And since you are dealing with electricity then do so at your own risk as making a mistake can injure or it could even KILL YOU. You will want to UNPLUG YOUR machine before making any changes.
I reached out to Sewing Parts Online to find out which foot pedal they offered that allowed you to slow down the speed using the technique I presented in this video. If you order it please let us all know the results. Here is a link to it: [I removed the link - see note below]
UPDATE: I ordered this pedal and it DID NOT have the ability to adjust the speed.
You can Download the Singer Heavy Duty Series Service Manual here: https:\\www.kevinsews.com\download\SingerHeavyDutyServiceManul.pdf
Sorry for my sloppy clothing. I was recording this just before bedtime as often that is when I have time to create these videos after being asking by something that is having an issue. Hopefully, you will find it of some use. - Навчання та стиль
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I just got my 4423 machine, and in making a dress, I have had to rip out so many stitiches because the thing takes off like a rocket and I can't guide the seams well at all, especially on curves. This will make such a difference! I had no idea there was a way to change the speed. I just googled the problem and your video popped up. This is going to make sewing SO much better for me. Thanks again!
You're welcome!
Did this fix your issue?
Omg me too, in making a tote bag...ripped it 4 times😂....so thank you Kevin!!
wth my 4423 doesnt have it
Me too! I was cranking it by hand all the time bcs of it
I have the 4452 model and this was SO helpful, THANK YOU! I was borderline scared and it used to be a painfully slow process of me easing pressure into the pedal because of how fast it’d take off. I adjusted mine to the between 6 and 7 position and now it’s perfect for me!
Great!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank You!!! 8 years I've suffered with my super-fast machine. Now, I can sew without it taking off! Thanks again!
Athena K Delmontie You’re welcome!
Just bought this machine, was completely intimidated by the speed, but thanks to you now I can use it without trouble. Thank you so much!
Anna Nesterkina My pleasure.
Best video! I just slowed down the speed - I wish I'd thought to look it up a year ago. But now I know!!! Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
your channel's helped me fix to issues and learn about my sewing machine. You're my official UA-cam hero of the week!
Thank you! Have a great weekend!
This is exactly what I needed!!! You've changed the life of a new sewer in a profoundly positive way and I sincerely appreciate it!
You're welcome! I am glad to hear it was helpful.
It worked! And I'm mechanically challenged! Thank you!
You're welcome! I am so glad to hear that it worked.
Amazing! I have just got a new Singer and was really bothered by how fast it was going, especially as I like to be able to go slowly round curved lines etc.
I tried this and it works a treat! My machine is now a nice and relaxed speed and not completely crazy fast!!!
I don't know why they set them up like this, it seems everyone has the same problem.
Thanks so much this has helped so much!
My pleasure!
My savior!!!! Finally I'll have some control over my heavy duty!!🙏
I am so glad to hear it helped you.
Kevin, I have this same machine and I want to THANK YOU for ALL your videos .. I follow everything you post about the machines I have. You explain things slow enough for me and I appreciate that. I have two brain aneurysms and I sometimes feel helpless if I at first don't understand something. Thank you again for being a blessing to me. God Bless you Kevin and your family.
Thank you Brenda! That is why I try to go slowly.
Thank you so much for putting out this video. It helped me with my new heavy duty singer. I was almost ready to send it back when I found your video.
My pleasure!
Thank you SO much for this! You just saved me a LOT of hassle and helped me enjoy my machine more.
You're welcome!
You made my morning. Thanks so Much!
I've been frustrated with the too fast speed for years, until today.
I glad to hear it helped you.
My new machine started off like a rocket! I thought there is no way I would be able to do what i needed to do at such speed. It's a singer heavy duty brought in New Zealand and the speed control premise is the same. Thank you so much for this post!!!
I am glad to hear it was helpful for you.
Thank youuuuuuuu! I followed your steps and it definitely worked. I was having such a hard time before your video with the speed, especially being a beginner!!!
You're welcome!
I followed your advice (here in France) and it gave a great result in the control of the slow speed. Thanks a lot!
Thank you! Glad to hear that it helped.
I adjusted the speed of my Singer heavy duty machine last night and I'm so much happier! Thanks to your tutorial it was completely easy to do.
That is great to hear. Thank you for letting me know.
It's a great little tip eh Robin?...Mine works like a dream now, slow and steady but maintains a high speed at the top end. :)
@@paulfellowes4879 yes, it saved my sanity!
Thank you for such a great video. My husband just sorted my Singer 5523 following your instructions. I can’t tell you how happy I am . Thank you .
I am glad to hear it was helpful.
Thanks for the tips. I have done as you have described, and now it is working very well and smoothly.
That is great to hear! Thanks for letting us all know.
Great video. Was looking for this long time. Thanks a lot.
My pleasure!
Thank you so much! What a difference this has made to my singer 5523 uk version. Can't thank you enough 😊
You're welcome! I am glad to hear it worked for you.
Thank you ! I just bought this sewing machine. My first machine! I'm going to receive it tomorrow in the mail. Im so glad I seen this video. Im sending this video to my husband so he can adjust it as soon as we get it. This will be a huge help to me seeing im a beginner. Thanks again!
My pleasure!
I know this video is over a year old, I just wanted to say thank you. I was able to successfully slow down the foot pedal on my Singer Heavy Duty 44S. It was driving me crazy how fast it was as soon as I touched that pedal. Much better now, thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you SO MUCH! I was about to return my Singer 44S and you save my day! it works perfectly, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You're welcome!
You saved my machine! I wasn't using it because of this issue and you solved the problem. Thank you very much !!!!
Mark Fannin Great!
Oh THANK YOU for this video! I thought my sewing machine was unusable, but now that I have it slowed WAY down, I can start to use it again!
That is great to hear. Thank you for letting us all know it worked for you.
Thank you!!! I bought my heavy duty last month. It was on a slightly different spot but it worked!!! I have so much more control now on my project!!!
You’re welcome!
Thank you so much, Kevin! That was amazingly easy and helpful.
My pleasure!
thank you so much !! I was so ready to cry when I watched another video saying I needed parts and had tools I didn’t have, but I turned the little dial thingy and it worked perfectly !! :)) thank you so much.
Great! You're welcome!
thank you very very much!! I have been struggling with this high speed.., You changed my sawing life so much better, thank you!!!
ツノちゃん My pleasure!
This is the exact speed controller for my dear little Brother XL-3600 (bought in 2006) and your instructions on how to slow it down worked perfectly (apart from the fact that it was necessary to turn the little screw clockwise to soften the speed - so it must be wired differently). Thank you so much for posting this!
Thank you for letting us know!
OMG. I feel like a freaking sewing machine repair goddess. This video was SO HELPFUL! I just got my machine not quite a week ago, and it was taking off on me like an Indy 500 race car. Now it works GREAT! Kevin, thank you, thank you, thank you!
You're welcome! I am glad to hear you found it helpful.
This is fantastic. Thank you. I could not even sew the way it came!
You're welcome!
I haven't found this tip anywhere in the internet. BIG THANK YOU
You’re welcome!
It worked perfectly on my heavy duty 4423! Thank you so much, you just made my work so much easier :)
You're welcome!
Fantastic help.....thank you so much for posting this video. I was close to trying to exchange my daughter's 'beginner's' sewing machine so she doesn't get put off learning to sew by this machine not having a speed control dial like all my machines. This has worked brilliantly and I'm so much happier....as is my daughter!
I am glad to hear it helped you.
Same!
@@teriberi54 Your welcome!
Thank you for the help! I’ve had my heavy duty singer for almost 2 years now. Finally had the courage to try this. Totally worth it
You’re welcome! Let us know how it works out for you.
Hello I am French and my singer 4423 bought from amazon germany. By turning my pedal over at the top right of the thumbnail, I have a hole with a molding representing an arrow + and -. I can easily adjust the speed without taking anything apart. the model of my pedals is FDM FC-2902D. it is to CE europe standards if that can help you. And yes among your subscribers you have a French. thank you great videos.🐝
I’ve heard from many outside of the USA that have foot pedals that offer this feature. You are lucky you have it.
I have just done this! World of difference, thank you both 😊
@@clairetrimby111 I am glad it worked for you.
back in the day here in the usa, my cheap singer machine had that external adjustment. i wonder if they make them without it now so that most folks take it in to a singer repair shop.
Thank you so much, was struggling with the speed of my new Singer 5523 and this has helped so much!!
You're welcome!
MY hubby has just done this for me....wow...what a difference. Fantastic. Thank you
You're welcome! That is great to hear. Thanks.
Thank you so much for sharing this video, it was really helpful.🙌🏽
You're welcome!
I would give this video 100 thumbs up if I could. Got myself a Singer Heavy Duty recently and, although I like the machine, I was struggling with the fact that it seems to go from 0 to 100 mph with nothing in between. I'm what you might call an "experienced novice" so the ability to go slowly is important to me. In fact, given that what takes time in sewing is not the sewing itself but the measuring, cutting, pinning and ironing, I'm not sure why any home sewist really needs the ability to sew quickly. Anyway, it took me about 30 seconds to take the pedal apart, fiddle with the thingy to get the needle at the speed I want it, and put it back together. Thanks so much Kevin, you've made my day. BTW mine is a European version.
You're welcome! Thanks for the info.
I’m so glad that I googled the speed problem on my 4432 machine and got this video. Thank you!!❤
My pleasure!
Thank you very much it worked on my 5511 singer machine and saved from many troubles as a beginner in sewing. Thanks again.
You're welcome!
This was such a great video! It really works, I just adjusted mine. Thank you!!
You're welcome!
This was extremely helpful. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Fantastic, so easy to do and it works. I now have control of my machine. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you Kevin. This was so helpful, a game changer for me. I had been really concerned about the fast speed. Great help. Judy
My pleasure!
Thank you, I was apprehensive on purchasing an HD machine, but with this instruction I'm going to give it a go.
You're welcome!
Thanks for this great video! I followed your directions exactly, had no difficulties, and got the results I wanted. A slower starting speed is especially helpful when I'm doing free motion embroidery on my Singer Heavy Duty 4423.
You’re welcome! I am glad to hear it worked.
Hi! What's the model of your pedal please? I'm desperately trying to find a solution for my current university project, I have two pedals and none have this feature 😢
Thank you so much for this video - I've been recently trying to learn how to sew and the takeoff speed of my Singer 4432 has been driving me insane. Your instructions worked perfectly. I was starting to think I was going to have to give up and get a different machine, but hopefully this will solve my problems.
My pleasure!
Super! Just made my wife very happy with this adjustment!
Jim Coun Great to hear that. Thanks for letting me know.
Thank you!! Just what i was looking for.
You're welcome!
Thank you very much for this video. I am a beginner sewist to the machine, and this helped a lot!
You're welcome!
I just did this. I am so happy. Enormous 🙏 thanks.
You're welcome!
This is absolutely great! You explain so well and very nicely visualised 😊 So happy I learned how to fix this issue! Many thanks from a first time machine owner. (My model was HD6335M Singer Denim european model)
That is great to hear. Thank you!
THANK YOU, Kevin, this WILL certainly help me on my sewing of Gear and putting on things like Webbing, Scratching type Para Cord on my tents and all that type of sewing and Backpacks too👍🏼
My pleasure!
I have the 4432 (European version) of this machine, and the galloping speed as soon as you touched the lever with your foot has always been a bug bear of mine. I followed your steps (hoping that the pedal had the speed adjuster inside, it did!) and now I have a progressive speed pedal that I feel more in control of. Can't thank you enough Ken for this handy tip! You're the best.
That is great to hear. Thank you for letting me know.

This video was so helpful thank you. I bought the Singer HD as a ‘smoother’ more up to date model from my old semi industrial Janome. I was almost at the point of selling on my Singer, so I could buy a slower brand/model with more control. Your video has just made my day here in the UK! Thank you
You’re welcome!
Yesss!! Thanks so much, this really helped me out big time!!!!! I knew there had to be a way to adjust it
You're welcome!
This was so helpful! Thank you!
You're welcome!
This was super helpful I have a brother Xm2701 and it was way too fast. I used a skewer stick to adjust because I didn't wanna take any chances, now the speed is to my liking and I dont have to be so anxious on the startup. Great video!
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Many thanks for this video, Kevin. Very clear and concise. I've followed your instructions with success, even though I'm in UK with a UK Singer HD 5523, bought only last month, ie Dec 2021 :)
You're welcome! Happy New Year!
I checked my foot pedal as i have just finished sewing a big canvas project and the fast speed made it a nightmare. My pedal has a small hole where you can depress the pedal and insert a small jewelers screwdriver and adjust the speed, I did not know this !!! Now it is so controllable ! Thanks Kevin, much appreciated, you are my go too help line :-) Greetings from South Australia.
You're welcome!
Thank you SO MUCH! I was never able to do the curves right with my 4432 until I saw this. This is an EXCELLENT video!
My pleasure!
Thanks so much. That's why I abandoned my SINGER 2277 sewing machine. I have been looking for this for ages.
Thanks so much for this.
❤❤❤❤❤
You're welcome!
Worked on my regular Singer starter! Thank you so much!
My pleasure!
Thanks so much! Worked a treat on my 4423.
You're welcome!
Thanks so much, fixed our machine in 5 minutes
Well done! Very good result
You're welcome! That is great to hear.
Thank you so much! Worked on my Singer as well. You saved me from buying a new machine. 😅 Cheers from Sweden.
You're welcome!
thanks for a very necessary and articulate video

Turned it right down and it worked fine. Thank you so much. Mine was almost either on or off.

Excellent information and video.
Thank you.
So helpful! Thank you so much for this.

The same procedure also applies for the 220/240V European versions. I just used this video to adjust my own one. Thank you very much for sharing the procedure. Cheers!!
My pleasure Jim!
This!!! Real life saver
Thanks so much 🙌

Amazing!! Easy, instant fix. Done in 2-3 minutes. Thank you so much!!!

Thank you tor this SUPER HELPFUL video!!! The original machine speed is nothing short of terrifying! 😂
You're welcome!
Really helpful video thank you so much👍
You are very welcome!
Thank you!!!! I’m new to sewing and speed is my issue. Going to try this!
My pleasure!
Worked on my wife's sewing machine. Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
I appreciate this SO MUCH!

Did the trick perfectly for me! Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
A GENIUNE THANK YOU, I KNOW THIS IS ALL CAPS BUT THIS IS HOW I EXPRESS JOY AND MY SEWING MACHINE IS NORMAL NOW! THANK YOU THANK YOU!Z!
My pleasure!
Wonderful! It was so easy even for someone with very limited tecnical skills like me. Now the speed is really under control. Many thanks.
I glad to hear it helped you.
Thank you!!! I have the Singer Heavy Duty version. I never felt like I had control of this machine, since it took off like a bat out of you know what, and kept on at that speed! I followed your directions and it worked. Now, maybe my seams will look more uniform, like I know what I'm doing, Lol :)
That is great to hear!
My european model has the same adjustment. Thank you , it has made a world of difference.
That is great to hear. Thank you for letting us know it had that feature.
Wow, I was just thinking about how I could do that. Thanks for posting this video.
You're welcome!
Excellent info! I ordered the 4452 last Friday, hopefully I'll get it (1st ever sewing machine) this week. This will be the first thing I do, if needed.
Great! Let us know the results.
Thank you! It works on my Singer Heavy Duty 5523! Truly grateful for this video 🙏 cheers 🍻
You're welcome! I am glad to hear it worked or you.
Hi! What's the model of your pedal please? I'm desperately trying to find a solution for my current university project, I have two pedals and none have this feature 😢
OMG! Thank you so much. This is a game changer.
You're welcome!
Wow wow wow, you've helped me out again!
That is nice to hear!
Wow, thank you, I love my machine but it just used to take off. Brilliant.❤
You're welcome!
The foot has a hole where you can insert a screw driver to turn the speed adjustment without opening it!
Mine didn’t have one. Maybe some other model pedals do though.
@@kevinsews The pedal is a FC-2902D, which is a pedal of a Singer 4423, purchased in 2024, EU model.
@@EconaelGaming Ah, that explains the difference.
@@EconaelGamingI have this kind of pedal but what do you use to insert in that hole. You need a very thin screwdriver
@@StelutaSabau I used... a very thin screwdriver. One from those cheap "micro precision screwdriver" sets.
Still works, even on EU version too!
Thank you Kevin!
Thanks for letting us know.
Thank you so much for sharing. Mine very sensitive and fast, maybe it's originally set from the factory. And now everything is settled.👏👏👏
You’re welcome. That is great to hear.
It worked perfectly, many many thanks!!!!!
You're welcome!
