I thought a video call on an SNES was unbeatable, but this is a masterpiece. Not only is it technically impressive, the artistry legitimately matches the original game to a point where it's hard to tell the real from the fabricated.
Link to that?
To be fair, Nintendo made it so that you could connect the SNES to satellite servers and play games alongside radio shows during that era.
link to the SNES video call? couldn't find anything
Aww, thank you for your kind words
Video call on an snes?? Link?
When ACE was first discovered to be possible in OoT, someone in a UA-cam comment joked that someday they’d be able to play Doom in Zelda. This run makes me feel like OoT Doom% is not only possible, but inevitable
There are some limitations so you couldn't get the entire game on there but definitely a couple of levels!
@@geeshta no shot, doom isn't nearly as processor heavy as oot. And the n64 can run much bigger files with the memory pack
@@geeshta With a bootstrapper the way they did this run, there are no limitations. They have total control over the CPU and address space for as long as the N64 hardware remains powered on.
I mean, there was an N64 port of Doom, right? You totally could
37:55 the "what!" from one person from the audience is amazing.
Nah
@@zerker08 yeah
“Did I stutter” haha
"....the unicorn fountain..."
"WHAT?!?"
ME: LMAO
I didn't expect to get teary-eyed from a "TAS run". Amazing.
Same. Beautiful run
Same
damn onions
Literally have a tear trail running down my face
I’m so glad you said this, I thought I was going mad! This genuinely blew me away in a way I never expected possible from an LP. Many thanks to all involved!
This run is so wild that I’m pretty sure they’ll save Aerith by the end.
Ok, you win best comment. Award is in the mail
And they'll do it when they find Mew under the truck
@@samt3412 MrCheeze already used ACE to put Mew under the truck, that was one of our inspirations: ua-cam.com/video/i2x3pIvVnP4/v-deo.html
i have news for you
37:56 that "WHAT?!" pretty much defines this entire run. This was honestly one of the most elaborate runs I've ever seen and will go down as THE GREATEST GDQ run ever.
Defintely haha
Oh my god at like 37:50 it hit me that they hadn't started saying anything like "Now unfortunately, the door down here doesn't go anywhere," so then I think I actually screamed cause I realized I was finally going to see what was past that doorway lmao -- and boy did it deliver!
So true
This will go down in time as one of the greatest GDQ runs in history.
one of the best runs of anything ever I'd say
This blew my fucking mind
One of? No. THE. The single greatest gdq presentation in the events history. This game came out when I was 12 so it hits that magical spot of nostalgic wonder for me. Bravo to the creators, spectacularly well done. What a masterpiece
this run is legitimately amazing.
Hey thanks, love your music!
One of the most special GDQ moments in 12 years of watching. This was the closest to playing a game for the first time again I think you can get. Thank you! #heretogether
This is the pinnacle of everything TASbot has shown us to be possible over the years. This is beyond a run. This is art.
Genuinely thank you for saying that. I have always felt this is an expression of art and working with such a talented team capable of something refined enough to be recognized as such has been an incredible experience, beyond anything I could have ever done on my own.
@@dwangoACabsolutely incredible, this video just randomly popped onto my feed after watching a few agdq 2024 videos. I am so pleased that the algorithm gods blessed me with this amazing display of what people can do in a collaborative setting. Wishing you well in 2024
Vague spoilers for the run:
This absolutely blew me away. The writing of the interconnected story pieces, the delivery of what appears to just be a "beta showcase" slowly morphing into something so much more amazing, and of course: a beautiful "ending" to zelda that would make Miyamoto proud. This one of the most interesting forms of media I've ever had the pleasure of seeing; and just flat out awesome. Thank you to all the creators for your ASTOUNDING work. You should be proud! #HereTogether
This run gives me chills, it's easily the most beautiful thing I've seen at GDQ. The years of work going into fulfilling the dreams of so many people, digging into fan-lore and old hoaxes, and the shear *emotion*... This is art in every sense of the word.
this is going to live on as one of the most memorable runs in GDQ history. so happy to have seen this live
I was not expecting this at all. I thought it was just a glitch showcase and I am incredibly lucky to have watched it blind. My eyes are full of tears. Like others have said I never thought I could feel this feeling again for OoT. I’m so glad I finally got around to watching this. Just amazing. I can’t wait to see what else comes from this.
You and me both! Thank you for the kind words, I've been passing them on to the team
This was, to me, THE greatest run of SGDQ 2022. Not only it was super interesting to explore the technical details of the beta content, but that ending... That ending! That was so, So special. It reminded me why I love videogames so much, and why I love watching Games Done Quick.
Thank you for all the magic.
I never, ever thought a Speedrun would make me legit cry, but seeing those shots that I had seen so many years ago in forums and fansites, where people who loved this game invested themselves in discovering it's misteries...
It just did something to my inner child. Thank you so much, GDQ and TASbot crew. I had no idea I needed this.
Aww, a lot of people feel like that and it's so touching reading this
@@dwangoAC There's been no GDQ in which TASBot was present where I didn't get hyped to see what you guys could possibly figure out next, and in this one, every time I wondered about the massive amounts of time and love that must have gone into that bit of ACE, another came in to floor me again.
All of it for a great cause, to bring people together, and to touch the hearts of every kid who'd ever wondered if you that picture of Super Saiyan 8 Goku they saw was real, if you could unlock Luigi in Mario 64, what the secret of Stop N Swop was...
...and if you could somehow trek through the sacred realm and hoist up the triforce in Ocarina of Time, like that one good edit they saw one day. To say this is an inspiring gesture and a work of art to anyone with or without context is underselling it.
Congratulations, and thank you.
This is about the closest thing we have to actual magic and it was, well, magical. All the props in the world to the creators of this run and the presentation!
Absolutely incredible; maybe the greatest segment of any GDQ ever. Thanks so much for the whole team behind this.
Didn’t think I would get emotional during a beta showcase, but man once Link actually got the Triforce, some part of my childhood finally felt complete in a way I never thought possible. OoT was such an important part of growing up and led to bonding with life long friends. But then to see the Botw scene integrated with chat, the dam broke, and I don’t think I was the only one.
Some may find it silly to get emotional over someone basically ROM hacking an old game, but with how the world is right now, damn was it good to be a kid again, even if only for an hour.
Thanks to everyone who worked on this project for all the resurfaced memories flooding in, childhood dreams fulfilled, and the sincere tears of joy this 26 year old needed today.
P.S. I’m billing you glorious bastards for the tissues next marathon if you do something like this again. ;)
Your kind words mean more than you could possibly know
I teared up at the ending, it saying finally after 23 years millions of players dreams have come true really got me.
Ocarina of time was probably the most important game of my life and it might just be the starting point of my entire personality as I played it when I was just 4 years old.
Then the end, with chat all saying Here Together, and knowing what a great cause this was all for, I just couldn't help it, I really did tear up.
This was nothing less than incredible and DwangoAC, Savestate, Sauraen, TASBot and everyone else who worked on this, I hope you're proud of what you've made here, because it wasn't just a fantastic run, you also really did make dreams come true.
You have made this 27 year old feel like a little kid again, thank you.
you're not the only one, that's for certain. i cried to at that scene. still the only time a speedrun made me *that* emotional b/c it was so wonderful in ways i never guessed could be possible. thank you all on the TASbot team for this.
Agreed! I wouldn’t have expected to be genuinely moved by seeing him get the triforce, but I was
chills.. iam litteraly crying. This was beautiful and such an emotional yourney. Wish i would have caught the live show but iam super grateful you put this up on youtube. This was an amazing project, one that i had no idea was in the works. Bravo!
This is why TAS bot always steals the show, it's hard to imagine how they could top themselves and yet the team always find ways to completely subvert expectations and show off something incredible.
This was hands down the best display of TASBot I've ever seen. Congrats to everyone who had a hand it this; it was phenomenal. And I've never even played OoT, lol.
This is an actual legendary run/demonstration. Holy shit i dont think ive ever seen anything as incredible as this. This is definitely the run of the event and most likely the run of many years to come. This was beautiful.
Aww, I've been passing kind notes like this on to the team but I wanted to say thank you
There it is, the perhaps greatest run in GDQ history, folks. What a rush that one was, so glad I got to catch it live!
While this may be nothing more than childhood wish fulfillment, its pretty cool to see all of this come to fruition.
It's still bonkers to me they were able to get any of this running on an unmodified N64 and cart WHILE THE GAME WAS RUNNING!
To all involved in the development of this showcase, Thank you and Stay Awesome!
This isn't a speedrun. It's art.
And I'm completely fine with that description of what we made
100%
I am so sad that I couldn't watch this live, and not gonna lie, this all had me in the first half...unfreezing Zoras Domain was the point where I started to question the whole "Beta showcase" but damn, that Payoff at the end. This just hast to be to most beautiful TASBot demonstration there ever was! #HereTogether
Well, maybe the whole "Cheater"-storyline was the point where it didn't feel like a beta showcase anymore, still the feels in this mammoth of a project. You sure outdid yourself!
@@hirshx7188 Did they actually script and code that encounter? Or was that an animation file being played back by TAS bot?
Though I was wondering about the lost woods secret. It wasn't until the race clock underflowed that I first questioned whether this was exclusively beta content. It's been a decade since I looked at the cutting room floor for Oot. Maybe a lot more amazing stuff was unscrambled.
@@CMF412 A lot of OOT stuff did legitimately come out in this past year and there is a playable version of it with many dungeons and unfinished areas. Some cool stuff to look at
The Zoras Domain was actually meant to melt and give you access to the entrance they used there to visit the unicorn fountain, not sure if it was the location of the fountain or not. There was meant to be an additional adult dungeon with Rauru to get the Light medallion that was cut entirely. A big part of the original game being used here was because it was "cleaned" of unused content in future releases, as well as bug fixes (not sure if they used any of the fixed bugs or not, a lot of this is relatively recent discoveries but perhaps).
47:46 This sends me shivers every time. Absolutely amazing.
I've watched this run at least 15 times so since it happened and every time I get teary-eyed and I wouldn't have it any other way. Way to go everyone involved.
Aww, this means the world to us, it was a passion project for our director in particular and I'm just glad to have been a part
I have never played OoT, and I didn't get to watch this live, but something about it still made me burst into tears when Zelda said "you asked to see your future, here it is."
I grew up in a later era of TLoZ. The first game I played was Twilight Princess on the Wii, the first one I beat was Phantom Hourglass on the DS.
Now I'm older and trying to revisit the games I missed, but its so different when there isn't the same culture around it anymore. This run gave me a glimpse into what it was like, and a little of the magic this game brought to so many people. If it can affect me so strongly, I can only imagine what it must feel like for people who grew up with this game.
Fantastic job to the team and to the adorable TASBOT ❤
Idk why, but the end of the end of the run, with all the "Here together"s and Link speaking REALLY hit me in that place that makes me tear up EVERY time. Ugh.... Well done to everyone involved. This was incredible.
Yeah that gave me the same overwhelming feeling I got at the true ending of NieR Automata, which is saying a f*cking LOT. I've never been so surprised and confused that I was tearing up in my entire life. A truly weird, beautiful experience.
From a technical perspective, this is absolutely the most amazing gaming achievement I've ever seen. I cried at the end. Congrats to the creators of this run for making something so extraordinary and touching: a tribute to all the players of OoT whose imaginations were enchanted by this game over all these years.
That was incredible. What a masterclass of ACE demonstration. And the finale was phenomenal, seeing chat messages in game gave me Nier feelings in the best way possible. Truly unbelievable.
Wow. Beautiful, and very tastefully done. I love what Saurean said about building something on top of the game rather than destroying it. Hats off, I really enjoyed this.
I'm glad I watched this VOD blind. I've been a LoZ fan for a long time, but I was born after OoT was released and so never got to experience the culture of rumors that sprouted around it. Seeing people get so excited and nostalgic during this showcase not only gave me an idea of what that culture was like, it gave me the opportunity to experience its magic of speculation and discovery right alongside others.
You did an amazing job showcasing the transformative potential of ACE and technical speedrunning. This was an exercise in both honoring and building on the legacy of a deeply loved game, and you did exactly that.
Zelda has been a big part of my life for a long time, which is a major reason why this ending resonated with me. These games have come such a long way, and so has the community around them. I loved this, and I will remember Triforce% fondly for a long time.
I can't believe I just cried watching a TASBot run. You guys are amazing. Everyone behind that run is truly amazing and deserve recognition. Thank you very much for this. From a Zelda fan from Brazil.
why i'm crying? this hit me so hard, this is game of my life, the whole franchise and all of you make me so happy in barelly 1 hour, the only thing i can say is thankyoy from bottom of my heart. You saved a life, my life!
Wishing you all the best. Love the franchise just like you do.
I clicked this video thinking I'd skim through the run, but I was genuinely captivated from start to finish. What an absolutely phenomenal showing.
If you’re in the middle of watching this and you randomly started scrolling down and reading this comments section and you haven’t seen the end of this run yet, STOP. Scroll back up and watch all the way to the end. Trust me, it’s for the better.
This was incredible. Well done.
This dropped my jaw to the floor and left me teary. It's one of those moments where technical mastery meets a beautiful mission; might be the best GDQ moment I've seen. I do more database programming these days, but it made it so much more special to be able to understand the technical discussion too.
Database programming isn't anything to laugh about, it's hard to do right! :) We'd love to have you join us on the TASBot Discord server, we get into these kinds of technical discussions regularly and it's rewarding having so many people with diverse backgrounds contributing
This run was so amazing. I'm so glad we met this incentive, it was incredible to experience live!
I love this community. To whomever reads this, I wish you a fantastic day!!!
The BEST GDQ ever! Got teary eyed and had my baby son clapping at the end! You guys are amazing! I have been playing Zelda since the 80s, but this right here, was momentous, linking my nostalgia and love of the game for all these years and even the years to come! Thanks for this masterpiece!
Holy crap, that was a wild ride!
This gave me closure for all the loose ends and lore theory videos i've seen on youtube.
Absolutely amazing work!
I cried so much watching this miracle happen, this dream become reality, after more than two decades of my life with Ocarina of Time deep in my heart... This run is as legendary as the game itself. It shows what the past was, what the present can accomplish and what the future has in store for us. It's filled of memories of younger days that will never change with time. It's our wishes as children that turned to noble ambition. For a moment, it gave me back my childhood as it also saved Link's. I can't stop crying. This is so beautiful, it's art and engineering at the same time. Thank you so much for your work. Through hard work, you forced your knowledge into the game. So it can be said that you have courage, power and wisdom. You deserve to get the Triforce. You put the hearts of millions of people in balance. Can't thank you enough. I'm still crying. Something within me is finally complete.
I have watched this run live and several times on vod. Each time someone keeps cutting onions. The ending is just so cute. Thank you to everyone that donated to unlock it and originally created the run.
I'm so glad we were able to show this
So I'm currently working on my PhD which surrounds the way people experience time and space through storytelling, especially in mediums such as fan fiction. This was just so freaking beautiful and is exactly the kind of thing that continues to inspire my work even when people may ask "why are you getting a PhD in fan fiction?" Its this. This is the magic of fan fiction, fandoms, and the passion for these worlds.
Just seeing this now, feel free to reach out if you want to chat more about our project in relation to your academic work!
This was simply STUNNING
Never thought a *TAS* run would make me *CRY*
i was totally one of those kids who obsessed about getting the triforce legitimately in OoT. i even emailed Nintendo about it. i admit, hearing about this through another video just made me go like, oh, they just got the triforce through a mod? whoop-de-doo. but after seeing what went into it actually happening, i got a little emotional at the end seeing it all tied up. i wasnt expecting to be. great work to all involved.
I cried, First Zelda game I played, and loved all the rumors and such. Wished they could all be real, and now they are!!
I tuned in live just before the "plot twist" and I'm absolutely amazed by what everyone did here. This has genuinely made my week. I can't stop talking to people about this run.
TASBot segments have been getting more and more impressive over time, but this blows everything you've done previously out of the water.
Well done! This was amazing!
Aww, thank you for the compliment! I honestly don't know where we can go from here but I'm open to suggestions
@@dwangoAC I don't know where you go from here, but I would avoid the natural inclination to go "bigger" and "better" from what you have here. This run was incredibly creative and perfectly executed, and I think it needs to be left as a beautiful ode to OOT, and GDQ, and gaming in general.
I don't know if it would be good for the TAS community if TAS showcase became a one-up contest of who can inject more and more outrageous code into the game, because expectation will quickly become higher that what could be delivered. One of the best things about this run is how unexpected it is. And I don't think you could capture it again. (Although, I'd love to be proven wrong! Lol)
So instead of going into more technically impressive code injection for next year and beyond that, I would lightly suggest a different path. Perhaps more emotionally significant injection? The emotional aspect of this run was absolutely pitch perfect. I think there's some potential to go deeper in there.
This is a fun idea: what about when you travel back in time 7 years in game, you play a VOD of GDQ from 7 years ago in the game engine. IDK how you would do that, but that's just an idea.
This was very technically impressive. Would love to see a more detailed breakdown of how much of this content was actually on the cartridge vs having been created for this GDQ run. For instance, the fight with the running man- if that was done by modders I’m very impressed.
That behavior for the Running Man was not in the game im pretty sure. The assets were all on the cartridge but arbitrary code execution lets you change how those assets act. They added some movement behavior and a hitbox to the Running Man (just by executing lines of code)
I'm glad I saw this live and this replay still gives me chills. #heretogether
I LEGIT teared up MULTIPLE times watching this.(Especially when he melted the ice in Zoras domain and got the Triforce) It’s like every OOT rumor fully realized in the vanilla game. Though I will say that some of the stuff like using the Gerudo Mask to get into the fortress as a child and meeting Nabooru SHOULD have been in the actual game. Seriously this was incredible and one of the best GDQ runs EVER!!!!!
This is the most legendary run I think I’ve ever seen. So much work for an incredible payoff!
Wasn't ready for a OoT cut content exhibition to bring me to tears 😭What an incredible showcase!
An absolutely legendary TAS ACE showcase. Intriguing from start to finish, and the finale was downright shocking. This is one for the history books.
I ugly cried at the end of this run. It's been a hard time, and we can all use some more hope.
Cheers to the makers and the community!
This was one of the most heartwarming moments of SGDQ this year.
It made me feel so good. So happy. I was nearly in tears.
Video games matter, y'all. The stories they tell, the journeys they take us on, the characters they introduce into our lives - they're important and worth experiencing and learning from.
Thanks so much for this, everyone. This was amazing.
this was so incredible! very amazing and very touching, and it 100% caught me off guard, watching live. thanks so much to the triforce%/OOT ACE showcase team for putting this together!
This feels like watching the uncovering of an important archeological site. Mesmerizing. Absolutely mesmerizing.
Probably one of the coolest runs I've ever watched at GDQ. Bravo to everyone involved!
Truly amazing. There are very few times I have been so overwhelmed with nostalgia that it brought me to tears. This was so much more than I ever would have expected.
I am so glad to have been a part of the generation that grew up with these games.
Thank you dwangoAC, thank you Savestate, thank you Sauraen, thank you TASBot and the rest of the TAS community.
This is touching, it means a lot you took the time to thank all of us personally!
The creativity, work, and passion that went into this is jaw dropping
I found myself clapping at the end while sitting alone in a dark room. Man, that was amazing to watch!
This went so far beyond just a speedrun. What an incredible feature this was, I'm in awe.
When I played Ocarina of Time back when I was 13, I knew it would hold a special place in my heart. This has just blown any of my wildest dreams about the game out of the water with a very powerful message. Easily the BEST run of the marathon. Easily my top 3. May even be the Number one run. Thank you to everyone who donated, Who helped make GDQ happen, Volunteers, Staff, Chat and attendees. Thank you all. We are united. we are #HereTogether.
This was one of the most special things to happen at any GDQ. Zelda fans will be watching this video for years to come. Great job to the whole team!
48:32 one of my favorite songs from LttP in OoT? I'm so pleased to see it reutilized, what with so many of the great tracks we know and love becoming fully realized from the SNES Classic. Excellent work from everyone on the couch and behind the scenes and to everyone that donates, I'm glad so much good can be done with such a great community! Here's to the next AGDQ and everything beyond.
This was the most beautiful run ever done....
I actually teared up hearing Link's voice....it's literally my childhood telling me thank you! 😭😭😭
WELL DONE!!!!
WHATEVER YOU DO, WATCH TO THE END OF THE TAS, DO NOT MISS THAT ENDING!
I never thought a speedrun video would make me cry. This made me really emotional. Beautiful! 💕
That was awesome, a real love letter to this game and everything that it represents. Really really thank you for this!
Actually amazing. Congratulations to the team behind this, this was *incredible* to watch live.
Easily the best GDQ segment ever, what a moment to finally obtain the triforce after nearly 24 years! I love Zelda runs, but this is easily the best, well done to all involved.
This is the kind of magic, collaboration, unity, laughter, and awe the gaming community needed after years of separation from live events like this
Here here!
Hands down the best run of the whole marathon. Every time I watch that ending always start tearing up #HereTogether
That implies you've watched it more than once, heh - thank you for the kind words!
Part of me was hoping that this was all real, but even if it was fake, it was still incredibly beautiful to see the dreams of my eight year old self realized. Thank you to everyone who worked on this masterpiece of a fanfiction!
25 people working on this is a damn company. Speedrunning is so often an individual's achievement backed by a full community, but here they went full out. Absurdity.
52:59 That moment when your code doesn't break in production :) Awesome work!
This was the greatest Display I have ever seen. Had tears in my eyes when the Chat messages popped up... Well done to everyone involved. You are legends!
Probably the single most uplifting bit of speedrun ever shown at GDQ. This will be remembered for years to come. #heretogether
This was by far the greatest thing I've ever seen at GDQ and it happened during the my first in-person GDQ! The room was filled with energy and excitement! The absolute GOAT of showcases!!
I was waiting for that shoutout to Kaze at the end. I know he's a mario guy mainly but he knows his way around the n64 hardware backwards and forwards at this point and just had a feeling he was involved somehow. Incredible work from the whole team.
He was not directly involved--he was in the Special Thanks because the code to make the Bunny Hood work was based on code he wrote for a previous mod (The Missing Link). He knew we were working on something but didn't know any of the details in advance. But yes, some of the tools we used would not have been as developed as they were/are if it wasn't for him and his projects.
This has got to be the most beautifully emotional thing I've seen this year. Oh my god... Just. Thank you. Thank you for all of this.
HERE TOGETHER.
TASBlock never disappoints, but I never suspecting to cry during TASBlock. Bravo to you, gentlemen. Bravo
The "WHAT?!?" at 37:57 really sold it for me. What an incredible showcase of things I've been dreaming about since watching beta videos as a kid, thank you all for setting this up :')
This showcase actually brought me to tears. It was perfect. Thank you so much GDQ!
This actually made me tear up....When people ask my favorite game of all time I often say Zelda OoT or Final Fantasy 7 but this reminded me why I would say Zelda so much if my childhood memories of running through Hyrule field with the music and day and night but this whole video was fascinating but the ending gave me tears with pure emotion.... Idk guys I might not be a professional athlete or a business man but I ha... WE HAVE THIS.... and nobody can ever take that away....just beautiful...
#HereTogether
Probably the greatest gdq moment ever. Literally applauded at the end and I was just watching at home. Amazing !
This was amazing. I cried, a lot, ugly crying. Thank you for this.
The best TAS run of all time. So beautiful. Congrats guys!
AMAZING!!!!!!!! the run, commentary, presenting, the ending were all perfect!!!! thank you savestate, dwangoac, sauraen, tasbot, gdq, and everyone behind the scenes!!!! this was so special.
This is truly incredible. Best run I’ve seen in my life!
That was amazing and a really cool project. I can't believe the technology and design that goes into this as well as the thousands of hours of work. A huge round of applause to everyone involved!
As someone who designs and sells simple scripts for video games... Seeing this makes me so jealous and awestruck!!! Always interested in learning more about designing these TAS's and the behind the scenes work that goes into these pieces of art (Multiple in the the case of the coding, execution, etc) you all have broken, rebuilt, BROKE IT AGAIN CAUSE WHY NOT lmao, and then rebuilt this masterpiece!
Well done indeed!
I've never played any Zelda game nor involved myself with any lore, but this run actually made me cry. Absolutely amazing. #heretogether
That was beautiful, Im actually crying right now, BRAVO!!!
This turned out to be one of the coolest, most moving things I've seen at a GDQ. The ending of this blew me away.
