I was expecting some completely impossible passage from Boulez, Stockhausen, Sorabji or "new Complexity" composers like Finnissy or Ferneyhough to come out on top, but that variation is somehow even more unhinged😂

I've been to Hwang's practice room two years ago, and at the time a UA-camr called "Demit" introduced Strakosch's Yankee Doodle to us, and watched Hwang's sight-reading. The last variation was... something impossible to describe (I still have no IDEA about the proper adjectives to depict this situation...), and I literally ROLLED ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING (ROFL). I couldn't stop laughing for several minutes because how ridiculous it is!! 😅

The craziest left hand jumps I've done are usually in improvs where i'm trying to juggle 3 voices as best as I can (I am improvising after all...) and they span most of the keyboard, but are only one or two notes. Those jumps in Bravura are ridiculous! Truthfully I didn't think the Yankee-Doodle variations sounded all that good. That said if that was sight reading, very interesting.

Honorable mentions (actually candidates for n. 1): - Alkan Concerto 1st movement, measure 463 and on. The jumps aren't that far, but they are full chords at an unbelievable speed. - Schumann fantaisie, end of 2nd movement. Perhaps the most notorious leaps passage in piano music. Nearly every great pianist who has attempted it in a live performance has butchered it. Yes, even the best of the best who can breeze through the hardest passages of Rach 3 and Feux Follets without breaking a sweat - they still go and make a mess of wrong notes and uneven rhythms of this Schumann passage. Too funny Schumann put this horror in one of the greatest piano pieces in all the literature, and pianists simply have no other option but to play it :)
Brahms PC 2 First movement - some crazy LH jumps around the end of the exposition. There's one part where the jump interval expands. Ravel Piano Concerto for LH has some great jumps - again very difficult.

First, his technical skills in all his other videos do not come even close to the level of this kind of virtuosity - sight-reading or not. What about S. 140 4b? Not just the left hand though. Cziffra’s Sabre Dance and maybe some jumps in how Katsaris performs Liszt’s transcription of Beethoven’s 9th symphony might also be up there. Also pieces for the left hand alone
Great selections, but I think it’s important that you have video for all of them, rather than sheet music, because you can only truly appreciate the jumps when you see someone performing them. The overhead-style videos, like Rousseau and Traum, work great for seeing jumps clearly, but even when an overhead view is not available, some kind of footage is much better than just sheet music.
Thought this was hand-crossing, lol, but I would say Sabre Dance/ Cziffra should be in number 8 place. Number 8 should be lower than 7. Number 3 should be in 4. If you ever do a hand cross video, include Scarlatti sonata K 24 or Islamey for sure
2:25ish traum piano misses several of the bass notes. Smudges them. You see it in the midi. But you don't hear it. Proof these midi 'pianists' edit their performances to make them 'perfect'

Kind of sad I didn't see Alkan's Grand Sonate 30, Quasi Faust on here. I've worked on that piece and while it isn't throughout the entire piece, there are some stupidly ridiculous left hand jumps in there. Nothing as ridiculous as that last piece though wtf
I’m genuinely surprised Op. 25 No. 9 was on this. I just finished studying it and the left hand had like two somewhat big jumps the whole time. Definitely not big enough jumps for where it’s at though (for the whole piece)

I felt that it would be more interesting to look at for new viewers (trynna adhere to people's attention spans lol) Also I originally used Yuja Wang's recording, but then changed to Cziffra's because of copyright reasons (I forgot to change the text though)
