This is Freddie's song about how his AIDS medications were affecting him. Inspite knowing his time is running out, he was making fun of his situation. He and his friend Peter Straker were working on lyrics one night and having a blast: I'm one card short of a full deck, one wave short of a ship wreck, I think I'm a banana tree ... 😂 (Freddie loved 🍌, he ate 6-7 daily when he wasn't ill). The video was filmed in February 1991. Brian, Roger and John would do anything for their friend and to participate in this video was a fun and friendly thing to do. Freddie wanted to have penguins because he knew that Brian loved penguins ... ❤ To be continued... 😅
More Trivia: If you look closely at the collage of band photos on the back cover of their 1973 debut album, you’ll see Brian wearing this same penguin mask in at least two of the photos. This was the next-to last video Queen made in Freddie’s lifetime. He was in a great deal of pain at this point, and he dressed in layers of clothing in an effort to hide his weight loss. He also wore the white pancake makeup and fright wig to mask the effects of his illness.
@iris67si it's also the last video the band all shot together because Brian couldn't make the recording of the next and Freddie's last video These Are The Days Of Our Lives as he was abroad on a promo tour and they were worried that if they waited Freddie wouldn't be able to film it and his parts were added later so this is the last time all 4 filmed a video together
Freddie stayed up late into the night with his friend Peter Straker laughing coming up with the different imagery for this song. He knew how to have fun.
Freddie was overheard on the set of the video, February 1991: “I wanted to make the video as memorable as possible. I’ve always wanted to co-star in a video with a gorilla and a group of penguins. A little bit of Queen madness.”
Coach you are right about laughter. When my mother was in hospice, we used to sing “tie your mother down”all the time. And when she passed, we we’re listening to” somebody to love”. Great memories with Queen music and my mom.
Freddie just wants to be happy. This is an expression of his feelings about his illness. However, it is rare for a person who has a serious illness but still has a positive outlook on the world and acceptance of the truth no matter how painful it is. Freddie is the kind of person who has never been heard to complain about his illness and he still does his best to provide good music with all his heart. Very strong and brave person. IMO, The video is quite strange and funny but has a deep meaning. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Coach, as usual, you guys have done well❤
Freddie said he didn't take himself seriously. He wanted to have fun, not afraid to fall on his face ..that was part of his charm. I know I feel this way sometimes 🤪
Freddie wanted to make his music fun and enjoyable towards the world. The last album showed how much Queen didn't care if they were on the edge, they just wanted spend the rest of their lives with happiness and joy. A great example of this is " These Are The Days Of Our Lives". The music video was quirky and witty which I loved. Respect to Queen and Love XXX Great Work Guys
You're so right. With all the bad things happening in the world it's important to have a sense of humour. I also think music generally can get you through dark times. Especially Queen's music of course! Have a great week folks.
Hey there Coach & Mrs Queen Coach. Penguins rule!! This is a great quirky, fun video and Freddie's vocals on point for this song. Coach is right once again, hang on to your humour and your dignity. Making memories is even more important when the end is near, however you do that. You both are looking good with the stress of moving, keep on smiling, cheers, Rich
This was a very trying time for Freddie, but as you said he always along with the rest of the band, made the best out of a very tough situation. Thank you for the appreciation of the band. A very big majority of reactors, when they think of Queen, they only think of Freddie.
Queen's last album, featuring Freddie was "Made in Heaven." Released in 1995 a few years after his passing. That entire album is GOLD! Freddie passed away before finishing the last song he recorded "Mother Love". He sang all but the last verse. Brian May sang the final verse of that song so listening to it is quite an emotional experience. Freddie asked the band to bring him every song they could and he'd give them his vocals for as long as he was able. That's how "Made In Heaven" came about. A couple songs were recorded by the other band members years before on their solo albums, but Freddie gave them vocals for the Queen version of those songs for this final album. The band did a tribute concert for him after he passed ( a star studded musical tribute very much worth watching in its entirety) and would go back into the studio to put the music to Freddie's vocals and produce and release the album. Its my favorite Queen album but it's also heartbreaking and difficult to get through because these are Freddie's last songs. There's even a hidden track that's 22 minutes long of instrumentation and some Freddie vocals. The video you reacted to was from their next to last album "Innuendo" which is also an incredible album. It was the last album Freddie was involved in from start to finish and had the last music videos ( in black and white).
Im in a similar position to Freddie now ,through heart failure,i look at him and admire the way ge was so brave. I plan to have a huge party before i end up in the hospice. Headlong next. Again a song written in the final year. It i am sure is the kast time you see Freddie with his half mic because after this he couldn't mange it . Again its a fun song i love the smiles from the biys you can sense the warmth and admiration they had fir Freddie who continued on to the end xx
@CoachCastTV she was. I may have mentioned this elsewhere but she was into Opera music. I've always been a big rock fan. I introduced her to the Barcelona album and we could both just sit and listen to it and enjoy it. One of the last times I saw her we listened to it and both agreed we really like Hpw Can I Go On. That song always reminds me of her
Only a rare soul like Freddie could treat his impending death with such a lighthearted and good humored song and video. They played clips of this video in news reports in the day of his death and it brought a few tears to my eyes seeing the contrast between the sadness of the day and the whimsical spirit of the video.
Hello Mr & Mrs Coach, wow its great to see another Queen video reaction. I'm Going Slightly. Mad. Yes it's a funny video especially with what's happening at the time. May I suggest you watch the making of I'm going Slightly mad video. Just for the Penguin that steals the show by doing what you Americans call a Number 2 on set while sat between Rodger & Freddie. I look forward to your next Queen reaction video. Don't let the madness of your moving get the better of you both. Thanks again for sharing this
Simply, you are both tremendously empathetic people. You both respect humanity. It should be a given , but no we rely on strong souls to tell it is as it it!
Love this music video .. Gives me a Tim Burton vibe (Edward Scissorhands). I can appreciate that Freddie kept his sense of humor, too! 😄 Freddie and friend Peter Straker, stayed up all night coming up with the one-liners! My favorite line is, “One wave short of a shipwreck” 🌊🚢⚓️💦

The album Innuendo and the album Made in heaven (that one came out 1995, 4 years after Freddies death) have many self-reflecting and pensive songs (hope those are the right terms.. )Like Dont try so hard, Slightly mad, Innuendo, These are the days of our lives, Show must go on, Mother Love, a winters tale, let me live - to name some. To me this songs are very special.
Let Me Live is a scrapped song from 1984 that was originally done with Rod Stewart and they reworked the music for Made In Heaven album and kept Fred's original 1984 vocal
A very emotional song.. as said below.. Freddie wrote this about how his AIDS meds affected him.. and everyone went along with it... interesting... appreciate your listen... (p.s. Brian was well-known for his love of penguins... lol)
... They all had a lot of fun filming this but the funniest part came when they were sitting on a couch and having 2 penguins among them. One was being cuddled by John and Brian and the other between Freddie and Roger was probably scared and made no2 on the couch. 😮 Rog and Fred jumped up 😅 and .... Freddie looking what the penguin had done jokingly accused Rog: Roger, what did you do?! 😂😂 Brian was concerned of well being of penguins, he made sure that they had water and worried that filming lights were to warm for them....❤ You can see a clip Mad in the making: Making of IGSM ...ua-cam.com/video/6ev08SNKxV0/v-deo.htmlsi=da-Dx2sfQGRRKCiW
No. Brian who is a true animal rescuer is the one who was caring for the penguins. The studio lights were too hot for penguins. Check out Brian May's Save Me Trust wildlife rescue. Freddie was having enough trouble taking care of himself.
In the behind the scenes making of documentary of this, one of the penguins is on the couch with them, between Fred and Rog. Next thing you see is a creamy liquid running down it. Yeah, the penguin did one. Fred jumps up and says "Rodger, what did you do?" 🤣🤣
today,on Roger Taylors birthday,i heard the story how they came up with Radio Gaga.roger was at home and trying to get an idea for a song.meanwhile his grandchild was in the other room listening to the radio while playing on the floor. roger looked for him asked what he was doing and with the mind and speech of a 2 year old he said :Radio Gaga...bamm...a hit was born.
It was Roger's son Felix who didn't like what was playing on the radio and stated: Radio ca-ca 😅 ... his mother is Dominique Beyrand ( Rogers's first wife) and she is French ... It was her idea for Queen members to appear in drag for video I want to break free...😮
Such a playful video. I love it. The lyrics are a little sad, as Freddie processed the psychological side-effects of his medication, but the way he did so was to make fun of himself. It was filmed in black and white to try to hide the thick make-up Freddie had to wear to conceal the lesions on his face, since he could no longer stand the sensation of moustache or stubble. There is a short video showing clips of them making the video... and that is a giggle too.
You got to laugh in life, even facing death or after it. I was at a funeral about ten years ago to give some support for my nephew as his close friend had died. Before, during and after the funeral my nephew, who doesn't really have a sense of decorum, was cracking jokes all the time. Even the funeral directors said it was one of the funniest services they'd dealt with. As for Queen, they definitely had a sense of humour in their songs, videos and personalities, especially John who was the quiet one but was very witty indeed.
Fred was in an incredible amount of pain at this time, the video is remarkable considering that. Typical of the boys to make light of something to make a bad situation better. Brian said himself he never heard Freddie complain once about his illness and found an incredible strength through all of it so he could still make his music. Side note: The video scared the shit out of me as a kid and I couldn’t watch it 😂 Now i see the humour of it and feel sad at seeing Fred looking so frail
Awesome! I vehemently agree about the philosophy of comedy, their sense of humor (especially Freddie and Dr. Sir Bri's) is among the many things I adore about them. The visuals seem very reminiscent of Tim Burton (especially Edward Scissorhands)! In the words of Charlie Chaplin- "Life is a tragedy in closeup and a comedy in long shot" A cool little tidbit, Dr. Sir Brian May is a passionate animal rights/environment protection activist. Alongside badgers, hedgehogs, and foxes; penguins are among his favorite animals, so he had a blast with them in the shooting of this video. In some photos of when he was younger, he wore a cute penguin pin on his lapel. Some of the behind-the-scenes footage is really cute/funny.
@@CoachCastTVBrian is a passionate advocate for animal rights. Check his Save Me Trust and his constant fight for ending of the badger cull in GB. (Farmers are blaming badgers transmitting bovine TB to cattle and the government decision to randomly kill badgers instead providing vaccines to them or the cattle is making things worse.) Brian said that his mother taught him to respect every single living creature because we as humans are not superior beings on this planet. He has his own animal sanctuary (treating injured foxes, hedgehogs, badgers...) He even bought 150 acres of land in Dorset which was used in farming but in 2013 was planted with 100.000 trees and shrubs and soon after that wildlife returned... Now the "May's Woods" are 11 years old and nature flourishes providing safe haven for wildlife.
@@iris67si You know what's interesting is that the more we learn about this group off stage, the more we like them. That unfortunately cannot be said for all artists, but definitely applies here.
More Brian and penguins trivia: When Queen in spring of 1975 returned from their first tour to Japan (where they were welcomed by thousands of screaming fans and felt like The Beatles), a friend visited Brian in his "fungus infested crummy basement one room flat", he saw Brian's small room filled with dozens of toy penguins. 😮 Brian had done an interview in some magazine and he told them he liked penguins and fans sent him toy penguins.😅 Brian's friend recalls: "So there is fungus on the walls, the room is tiny, but is full of penguins - small ones, big ones, six-foot ones... just loads of penguins... 😂❤
Hello Mr. & Mrs. Coach. I have a very serious suggestion to make: if at any point you want to react to "Mother Love", the last song Freddie recorded, please DON'T REACT to the video in the official Queen channel. It will only confuse you and take away from the experience of listening to a poignant and profound song. You've been warned!!!!
Freddie's weight loss was so significant at that point, that he had to wear cashmere underwear, becauseo he always felt cold. 😢 Endurance guys, when your movig will finally ending Mrs Coach will be the Queen of the house, she already got the proper shirt. 😉
El vídeo de Headlong, single de ese álbum, también es muy divertido y These are the days of our lives, primer single que salió tras su muerte,el vídeo es muy bello y la canción también
At this point, Freddie was taking a lot of medications that were messing with his head. Always the one to find humor in almost any situation, Freddie wrote this song about how he was feeling some of the time. In the video about the making of this video, the guys are sitting on the bench and the penguin is next to Roger. Everyone is petting it and all of a sudden the penguin poo's all over. It actually was so funny the way they reacted then Freddie tries to blame it on Roger. This almost feels line an old Charlie Chaplin movie in a way. I like it, thanks. I hope things settle down and you get moved in and comfortable soon.
H folks! You know I've been waiting for this one! Yes, the boys always had a great sense of humour, particularly about themselves, and this one was right up that street. (Here's a cute making-of that's def worth the 8 minutes whenever you have a sec. ua-cam.com/video/6ev08SNKxV0/v-deo.html Here he's Lord Byron (and not Liza Minelli as one of my kids guessed) and the Doc again dressed as a penguin, just like he did on the back of their first album in '73. I would have to object, tho, to any notion of Freddie's illness or the guys' overall situation having anything to do with these lyrics. This is really Typical Freddie. He will interlace his lyrics with things that need to be said, but he always believed his music was "disposable". (Yeah, sure. Good one.) For me, I don't believe he'd give his situation that kind of power, not to mention, he wouldn't want to give the fans a musical tombstone to wail over, y'know? While he looks jolly, he is indeed wearing an entire suit of clothes under that outfit. It was shot in B&W to disguise how thin and pale he'd gotten. He's not about to just sing blatantly about *that*. However, that's the real beauty of his lyrics. They can mean anything you want them to mean. Calm sands for your move. Love you guys!
Great comment. Yeah, probably those who have told us it's about that topic interpreted it that way, but as you said, that's the beauty of the music. It can be whatever you want or need it to be. Thank you!
Thanks all.. another great reaction... my question is: WHO is in the gorilla costume?? Some people have said Elton John, others speculate one of Freddie's many other friends... does ANYBODY know??? Blessings.
Rudi Dolezal (video director) confirmed in his book My Friend Freddie that although it was speculated that in the gorilla suit was Elton John or Rod Stewart, there weren't either of them. It was an assistant who was small enough to fit in. 😮😅
One of the first Queen songs was Somebody to Love live in Montreal. Please listen to the Milton Keynes version, Freddie sings it in a blues style. I think it’s better than Montreal.

Alongside badgers, hedgehogs, and foxes; penguins are among his favorite animals, so he had a blast with them in the shooting of this video. In some photos of when he was younger, he wore a cute penguin pin on his lapel. Some of the behind-the-scenes footage is really cute/funny.
Awesome to know he is an animal lover.
@@CoachCastTVBrian is a passionate advocate for animal rights. Check his Save Me Trust and his constant fight for ending of the badger cull in GB. (Farmers are blaming badgers transmitting bovine TB to cattle and the government decision to randomly kill badgers instead providing vaccines to them or the cattle is making things worse.)
Brian said that his mother taught him to respect every single living creature because we as humans are not superior beings on this planet.
LOL!
Nice shirt Mrs Coach! 👑
Thanks very much.
This song with it's dark humour in it should have fared better than it did in 1991; it reached 22 in the UK. It was number one in Hong Kong though...
Hello Mr. & Mrs. Coach. I have a very serious suggestion to make: if at any point you want to react to "Mother Love", the last song Freddie recorded, please DON'T REACT to the video in the official Queen channel. It will only confuse you and take away from the experience of listening to a poignant and profound song. You've been warned!!!!
We appreciate that and hope we remember when the time comes. Thanks!
Great Queen reaction as always
Thank you!! 😁
Freddie's weight loss was so significant at that point, that he had to wear cashmere underwear, becauseo he always felt cold. 😢 Endurance guys, when your movig will finally ending Mrs Coach will be the Queen of the house, she already got the proper shirt. 😉
Haha...indeed she does.
El vídeo de Headlong, single de ese álbum, también es muy divertido y These are the days of our lives, primer single que salió tras su muerte,el vídeo es muy bello y la canción también
Thanks for mentioning those!
Thanks so much. We're officially moving the first week in August.
my favorite song from Queen hahahaha
Sie sollten sich von Queen: Mother Love anhören. Ein sehr trauriger Song 😢.
Bom dia ,aqui do Brasil a vocês.tudo de bom .
Many thanks. The best to you, also.
This time I will have time to start watching it in time...)
😅
Thank you!
Please watch themaking of this video!
@@iris67si Thank you dear... blessings.
Hey team ‼️ I’m thinking about buying a banana tree. Between me, my son and my in-laws gobbling them up I’d save a small fortune😂
Yeah, no doubt!
War das ihre letzte Queen Reise? Es gibt noch viele Queen Songs: Headlong,Winterthal,Pretender,Miracle!
HELLO CCTV! MY SUGGESTION IS A REACTION FOR UNDER PRESSURE JOINING QUEEN & DAVID BOWIE. IS A FANTASTIC VERSION!!!
Thank you!
Sorry about the spelling i dont have a lot of sight left xx
One of the first Queen songs was Somebody to Love live in Montreal. Please listen to the Milton Keynes version, Freddie sings it in a blues style. I think it’s better than Montreal.
I admit I never liked this song too much... but I do love the video. It's quite artistic!
It is, indeed.
Guys, please react to Gfriend - Me Gustas Tu
Ok, that was just strange. Like it, but definitely, not going into my playlist.
Hey coach can you react to babymetal's rondo of nightmare with the mischief of god intro? You will love it.
Will note that for a future reaction. Thanks!
@@CoachCastTV I appreciate it.
