1 1/2 years ago I did a tuck but landed short and ended up in hospital. My talus (or as you say 90 degree part) wasn’t broken and now I have permanent damage to my foot. I do gymnastics and injured myself pretty badly so my advice is to not try this without a coach or knowledge on how to do one or if you have doubts. Don’t die
My fear is landing on my neck and breaking it so i don't try . But i will do it one day and edit this comment. Edit (20 nov ) - I am trying it hard. I have improved aa loooot but yes i can do it.😊
Try jumping up and not backwards. Thats the biggest mistake u can do. And also can hurt you pretty bad. And dont get stuck on one flip try others too, frontflip, sideflip. The more air awareness you have the more helpful it will be in the future.
Heini 433 I had the same fear. Well look u can actually work your way with different progressions. For example trying macaco to backhandspring to backflip. Or try cart arabian front to backflip. Also try asking a friend to spot you and search for a trampoline, its usually very easy to get the fear of it there.
One time i tried backflipping on a couch, cracked my neck and had surgery on my neck. I tried over and over again with my neck cast and finally landed it. This video helped gravely, thanks!
As far as learning backflips without gymnastics or dance to train, this is a very good representation of how someone could learn a backflip. Good on you and congratz on aquiring a new amazing skill!

Record it and compare it to someone who can do them really well. Try to look at things like how they are using their arms, where they are looking at every part of flip etc. Also, leaning back too much is fairly common with beginners and to fix it you can try to look at something in front of you for as long as you can, tuck your chin in your chest and try to see your knees before you tuck. Hope this helps.
Good for you as a gymnast it is good to see someone who’s not try to achieve something hard that most people see as simple or take for granted because it takes a lot more work than most people believe
Ryan ODonnell this was VERY helpful and inspirational. I also post videos of you could subscribe but what i really wanted to ask you was what do you edit with? It’s really nice! I can see you getting very big!
I'm not interested in a backflip, but I congratulate this kid for having a goal and being able and determined to plan well and execute patiently. It seems kids these days get less and less resourceful.
You are actually the one who helped me learn my backflip!! I tried the back head spring thing and thought to my self that if I can get on my head I can get over it! And it worked!! And a few weeks later I landed my first one on ground! So I wanna say thx for that :) I love ur vids ❤️

I think this is the best way to learn a backflip. On piece of advice to anybody just starting out: it's fine to try to flip and end up landing on your knees so you at least get the feel for flipping and it becomes less scary.
Ryan ODonnell Yeah, for me, I started of falling while on a flat surface, but able to make it from an elevation. Eventually, with some gymnastics training, I can do it without fear. The worst thing you can do is bail out in the middle. Otherwise, if you work your way up to it isn't likely you'll get too seriously hurt.
May May a lot of it is honestly getting comfortable with going upside down. As long as you feel secure it will make it a whole lot easier to try and land on your feet. It somehow becomes more natural once you practice it continuously, but at the same time you don't want to develop bad habits. So, at the end of the day, things that have helped the most for me were flipping on trampolines (though not everyone has access to equipment or training), and flipping off and elevated surface where I knew I could land. Really, its all about comfort and what works for you. As long as you keep practicing and trying to improve in a way that works for you, the progress you make will blow you away. Just don't do anything stupid.
I don't wanna be that person but just like with any skill, back tucks must have the proper technique to be executed properly and safely. I hope this makes sense as I'm writing from the top of my head but as a slight guide... Standing backtucks must have a set where you bend your knees, bring both arms back, keep chest up, then jump in the air extending arms as far back as necessary/safe. As soon as you get in the air, tuck your legs and try to bring them over you head and not just to your chest. Hands may be on your chins or tucked in the crease of your knees. Once you are tucked in the air bring you arms to your legs to help them rotate. Usually, you should feel your abs collide like in a crunch. You may feel this when you set and bring your knees over your head. Remember to never lean back when your in your set, usually easier to mistakenly do when doing a running pass with a tuck, as this will give you too much momentum and you will go flying back. Also, this gives your body less time to complete its tuck since that rotation takes up a good chunk of the tuck. If you do this, you will most likely land with straight legs instead of being tucked and this can be bad for your legs and will also not look good when you not only land with straight legs but fall on the ground immediately after. Also, never throw your head back. This gives bad posture as well. After you have tucked properly and your head is perpendicular to the ground, you may look at the ground for safety reasons. Remember to untuck. Its harder to remember in a front tuck but can still be forgotten to do. Forgetting to untucking can make you land on your back and serious injuries may happen. After you untuck, your legs should land in a 90 degree angle or somewhere around there. If you're ankles hurt, weight may have not been distributed properly when landing. Remember to never lean to one side of your body so this doesn't happen. And always land with both legs together. Sometimes, you can knee yourself in the chin if you bring your head and chest too far down when landing. Please don't do that, trust me, it hurts and can throw off your tuck. After, just stand up and *voila* , you've got a beautifully- done, safely-done tuck. As long as you follow said techniques, you will always land on your feet , whether toes, heel, the ball of your feet or your sole, and you wil never break your neck. *side note* Don't know who needs this but I could've used this back in my "learning to do back flips" days. Just recently I've started getting tumbling help from professionals as I am now a cheerleader so *trust me*
You have very good form but at the beginning you should try going on your tip toes and swinging your arms back as you start to flip. It will get you a lot higher (I’m a gymnast)
Great Job Bro! I looked at this video like 20,000 times when I was learning my backflip. I've seen all of your videos, and your actually amazing, keep going bro and try to get dub back down, ( don't hurt yourself)
The hardest part of landing a backflip for me was the mental barrier and getting over the fear once u get that it's surprisingly easy, easier than a frontflip
yh go for iti got over the fear by doing a backwards roundoff if that makes sense?but once i felt the feeling of going backwards i wasnt scared anymore and yh
Man, this reminds me of my own progression from back in the day. The most important parts are mentally committing to flipping (or else you won’t rotate); tuck your knees super hard to your chest (or else you won’t rotate quickly enough); and not opening your tuck until the last second (or else you’ll land on your knees). Oh, and keeping your head back (the body goes where the head goes).
I am 15 years old and did backflips everywhere but some months ago i wasnt carefull enough and landed on my head.. now i‘m trying to do backflips again but i am so scared but my trainer helped and two weeks ago I did a backflip again since then i didnt try again maybe this video helps me to learn it again :)
yeah, i just relearn't mt back handsprings yesterday and i made a progression video for that as well. i can do them into a high jump as of now. im working towards doing 2 back handsprings in a row and back handspring to backflip.
Supergabbi ya know, a backflip is easier than a back hand spring. Its just the fear that's harder. You should totally just go for it, even if you land on your head it first hurt that bad (trust me I know) I'm pretty new to tricking and the best I can do is a round off to back full
Ryan ODonnell the worst that happened to me was I landed on my butt after underotating on a front, that doesn't sound bad, but for some reason it ruptured my eardrums and they hurt SOOO bad

You always find something special in the most ordinary things.
Awesome man.
Such an inspirational video.
Samrat Khanal thank you! 😀
I'm working from back springs to backflips its way harder than it looks I thought it was easy 😂
yeah, i just relearn't mt back handsprings yesterday and i made a progression video for that as well. i can do them into a high jump as of now. im working towards doing 2 back handsprings in a row and back handspring to backflip.
Ryan ODonnell wow sounds complicated good luck I bet you'll learn quick!
im almost getting my back handspring.... when i get it ill try to do the back flip or back tuck... whatever you wanna call it!
Supergabbi well hopefully you can land them
yeah hopefully 😂
Supergabbi ya know, a backflip is easier than a back hand spring. Its just the fear that's harder. You should totally just go for it, even if you land on your head it first hurt that bad (trust me I know) I'm pretty new to tricking and the best I can do is a round off to back full
Daniel Aldrich lol yeah I think I’ve landed pretty badly on by head/neck lots of times and it has never hurt
Ryan ODonnell the worst that happened to me was I landed on my butt after underotating on a front, that doesn't sound bad, but for some reason it ruptured my eardrums and they hurt SOOO bad
The thing that really inspired me bout this video was the determination and how he never quit
