I am lying down on my bed and I watched the whole video on mute, and guess what, I understood everything they had to explain! That is what a tutorial is supposed to be like. I am going to try my back flip soon. Thank you CM.
Congratulations guys! This is one of the best video tutorials on backflip ever to be found. You covered important things such as common mistakes, the proper way for helping someone and most importantly some basic body mechanics that allow you to better understand the movement and technique behind it. I'm already able to do a backflip for several years and if someone had told me some of these tips, I'd have learned it much sooner and better. Keep the nice work going and please make more flipping tutorials.
Man this was so informative. I wish I knew this before I attempted a back flip. It's not just commitment guys I've tried 3 times and got hurt everytime. So learn to gradually improve yourself till you can do it safely.
As someone who has recently learned the backflip, I think you´re making the movement seem way more difficult than it really is. The physical component is not hard at all (compared to something like a front flip, where you have to tuck really hard just to avoid landing on your ass), so the flip is mostly about confidence and commitment. The technique is a little complicated, but it´s not that difficult if your only aim is to land it. The mental component is easily overcome by trying it into a foampit or a pool, followed by trying it on a trampoline. Just go with your instincts, and with each step, your body will tell you when it´s ready to move to the next one. The biggest step is probably the first time you try it without jumping assistance, because the take-off on your own is very different from a trampoline, but if you manage to get over the fear once, it´s not such a big deal anymore. Just remember to jump up, bring your knees to your chest, and then look backwards for the landing. Worst (realistic) case scenario, you will under-rotate and land on your hands and face first, which won´t be that bad if you have soft mat to land on. But no, you definitely DON´T need hundreds of reps with assistance to even attempt the flip at all.
"...tuck your knees, wait a bit..." made me laugh! Seriously guys, you've put so much information into one video and have done so incredibly well. Congratulations. Once comment though - when visualising (mental imagery), although you mentioned "imagine how it would feel" you also put images of how it would "look" for an external observer. It's important to visualise from your own point of view, so you "see" your hands coming up, knees tucking up, the hold and then the floor and so on. Big ups on the channel and the information you're sharing. I've recently been bitten by the calisthenics bug and my start has been easier by good quality (great quality) channels like yours.
The first try of my life was in the gym in Spain with 21 years of age, I rotated more in air so I feel backwards... my trainer put my on the floor, told me to rotate a little less, I had vertical jump, so the second time in my life I did it perfect on the floor! It is an special feeling..
Me aswell. Pictures a backflip in my head. Proceeds to attempt. Ok so jump vertically and... Windows XP error sound effect plays. Braincells.dll has stopped working. Please try again.
Excellent tutorial! I would love to see calimove do a floor skills program for kip ups, butterfly kicks, backflips, front flips, cartwheels, roundoffs, etc
I like the wholistic approach of yours. Every step is meticulously explained and additionally psychological and biological aspects of learning the backflip are provided.
Genau das Video hab ich gebraucht! ich hab vor ein paar Monaten angefangen zu üben und dachte mein Rückwärtssalto wäre schon recht gut, aber ihr habt einige Dinge gezeigt an die ich noch nicht gedacht habe!
This is very detailed, didn't expect it. These guys are professionals.. I am a 60 yr. old male - looking to get in shape and some of the exercises is excellent for training. Even if I won't be able to achieve a back flip I can at least improve myself.
Nicely explained. I have no intention of learing it, but I found it interesting. I'd really like to see a video like this on rolls. I really suck at a regular forward roll. I can roll diagonally and back, but I got the feeling that something is lacking in my mobility for a regular forward roll.
Do a search on Aikido ukemi, it will help greatly on rolls, forward, backwards and how to fall. It's easy, even for older guys, I know, I'm one of them.
I think there should be a bigger disclaimer "DON'T try this until you are ready" with fat red letters at the beginning of the video. I don't think I will ever start learning this.
I’ve been able to back tuck for about 1-2 months now but I actually used this video to help me, and now I do backflips on stage when dancing and around my friends

This is the best UA-cam video ever to me now! I’ve wanted to learn a backflip for years and years, but couldn’t commit. Got my brother and Dad to spot me with a regular leather belt and landed it on grass about 5 minutes later. No fails! Epic.
I was practicing with my buddy all day and didnt land a single flip, like not even close. Then my buddy left and I watched this video practiced the stuff for about 10 minutes and landed it. This video is just amazing.
Finally, a smarter way to learn somersaults. I think too many guys get impatient and try it out for the first time "the wrong way" in a park somewhere, resulting in serious injury. Going to try your technique for sure. Also, I can't stress how so many people don't stretch their muscles to where they're more flexible for better versatility
Thanks for the video! I am still learning the backflip ,but I feel much more relived knowing what to do and how to do it. Important part for me to learn acrobatics is to understand how it works ,so that I can fix my mistakes when I fail.
But now you have knowldge, think about, do the practices they taught so you can understand how it happens, just but time and effort Into doing them and you,ll beat your fear one day.
