Hello everyone & welcome to today's 100 Item Declutter Challenge...over at my parents' house! Thats right we're back helping Momma Robyn Declutter, only today I thought I'd Spruce it up a bit and try a decluttering challenge, and WOW this was GREAT! Robyn did an amazing job & got rid of things that are no longer needed & taking up space. Sometimes running through your home & seeing if there's stuff that no longer needs to be in the home is a great way to minimize the clutter, free up some valuable real state & a fun way to complete some decluttering maintenance! I encourage you to do this challenge with us and if you do, be sure to comment down below & let me know how it went! You got this, we're gonna get this done together! Lets do this!

Don't you love it when the person that you're trying to help switches it back around on you? My daughter always loves to reminding me whenever we are going shopping "Mom, do you really need that?" Yet she has no problem getting things she doesn't need 😂, and I would tell her this all the time.
YES!!! Oh my gosh YES! 🤣My face when she said that to me LMBO it was a "no you didnt just flip this back on me" face ha! 🤣 I know exactly where you're coming from! I do however have to figure out a better solution for when I come across things that are sentimental to me, well I also have to stop instantly creating emotional attachment to objects like...a wall mail holder from 1972 😆🤣

I went to a car boot sale with my mother when i was 40. All I did was pick up an ornament to see the makers stamp..when she said in front of the seller.. now are you sure you need that?! Never went with her again....so embarrassing!

Anything that reminds you of your childhood take a picture! I made all of my childhood memory pictures into a little book. I can flip through and remember, and I don’t have to have all of that stuff in my house. Love the Swedish Death Trap. 😂😂 50 Points for mom 😂😂😂
I am struggling with the few items I have left! They serve zero purpose in a bin in the closet but I feel like what if I forget them! I need to really think over it again

Hi Danni- My kids and I just did a bunch of decluttering. We’re donating 7 bags of clothes, 2 bags of bedding, 5 boxes of books, 2 bags of tote bags, some shoes and some hangers. 😊

Yes, I'm in the same place. Stuff stays in my Amazon cart for a long time and then, over time, gets shifted to Save For Later. I'm also on a book buying ban because I have enough books. I'm doing the Read-What-I-Own challenge (20 books) until I can buy new books, and I've removed many books from my shelves.
I have many books I want to read also. My home is a bookstore! Trying very hard not to buy any more. It’s hard for me!

Love my instant pot. Use it at least once a week. Helps with quicker meals ,even meats from frozen. Also, it can be used as a slow cooker, so I decluttered my crockpot.
I'd rather have a round instant pot and trade in my elliptical slow cooker.
OMYGOSH! Those peonies are stunning!!! Do they smell as fabulous as they look? I have had so many flowering bushes but never had peonies. Would put them all through my house as decor. WoW! I just love your videos so much. You are really so special Danielle. Love watching your journey and also helping your parents declutter too. My journey started in 2014 and I have loved the whole process. Just this last week I decluttered a trash bag full. It is a never ending process. If anything new comes in I find 2 things to go. I am old so I can part with so much. Haha, I cackled when I heard your Mom say the Swedish Death Trap. I played it back again as I thought she said the Swedish Death Crap. So funny! Let GO of the Instant Pot. If neither of you are using it, you're not going to suddenly start. If you needed one in an emergency (and what would that be?), you could probably borrow one from somebody.
I absolutely agree with you 100% I have a difficult time with stuff like that, I always think, because its a somewhat bigger kitchen appliance, thats its really valuable and we need to keep it, but it really isn't being used that much by anyone and it takes up a lot of space. And im sure theres someone I know who has one if I absolutely needed one, which honestly I doubt I would LOL I think another reason is because it was my uncles, he passed years back, but I think someone else would really enjoy that. @@danniraearranged I'm the kind of person who forgets to start supper in time, so I LOVE my instant pot. I have all three sizes. Use them at least twice a week. I use my air fryer at least once a week. But I haven't used my blender or food processor in years. I donated my bread maker and then bought another one from a thrift store --- twice. I bought my husband a sous vide and we used it once. You never know what new appliances will stick onto your lifestyle!
Keep the insta pot. It is great for quick, easy meals. I use mine almost daily. There are tons of recipes online.
It was the first thing to go when my youngest left for college. Cooking for just two now, we don’t need it. We don’t have to prepare a big family meal so we no longer need that convenience- we can have cereal and toast for supper if we want! 😂

Yup. 9 min in... "Swedish Death Trap". Love it. Being Swedish myself, yes it is a trap, if you do no not declutter, come death or not (which it will, of course). Love your mom!
We had that many spatulas! Now we don't! They were one of the easiest things to declutter because we were gifted ones with wooden handles. We hate hand washing stuff so those would get used and sit in the sink to be washed for forever!
Wooden handles seem to be the big thing now. Ugh. I tried to find a spatula last week with a rigid plastic handle and I couldn't find any! I finally settled on a one piece silicon spatula, but it's not my first preference.

An idea on the Instant Pot, check and see if your library has a library of things. If it does, donate to them and if you ever want to use it you can borrow it from the library. I did that with Dad's crockpot.

I gotta get it together when I come across things that I've created a sentimental attachment to, that she no longer wants, theres times when I come across something from my childhood or it reminds me of my childhood and I immediately place a memory with it... and then I value it waaaay more than I should, I have to figure out a better way to navigate through that stuff, over at my house too, the song "Let it go, let it go" 😂always pops into my head when I do stuff like that! When I cleaned out my mom’s house I took pictures of lots of things she had saved that were mine. I got rid of most of them. Some awards I got in high school. My very old flute. A small ceramic Holly Hobbie container. Old cassette tapes and albums. I knew that I already had some things at my house that I was saving.

Oh Danni, I loved this video. The fun conversations you have with your mama Robin are so worth watching. You mimicking each other’s hand gestures and your mom’s “Swedish Death Trap” method comment made me laugh out loud, to the point I spilt my coffee. Your mum did really well with the declutter. Maybe if your mom has too many hand soaps and won’t use them all she could donate them to a women’s shelter because they always need things. I liked the little tiny piggy ornaments and I would have kept them. 🐖 With regards to the insta pot, you are tricking yourself into keeping it for two reasons: Firstly, is the “just in case” argument and secondly is the “it was an expensive purchase” or “We spent money on it so we should keep it” notion. Also, the peonies were gorgeous.

I cant imagine NOT having an instant pot. I use mine every single day...there are days we use it 2 or 3 times. I do hard boiled eggs at least once a week, rice once or twice a week, potatoes once or twice a week...stew/soup/chili 2-3 times a week. And my favorite thing to do in there is spaghetti. I fry my burger on saute and remove it...then add everything I need to make my sauce. (frozen tomatoes from last years garden, onions, garlic, tom paste, S&P etc) when sauce is finished I add water pasta and burger. Cook on high pressure for about 4 minutes and it is perfect every single time
I have also done similar to spaghetti with broken lasagna noodles and added my cheese mix of ricotta cheese, egg, parm cheese and dolloped in layers to make a "lazy lasagna"
This thing has made daily meals a breeze. We are gluten free so I use GF pasta, so you may need to adjust times

The basement is such a hard area...ive been avoiding the basement because i'm frustrated with it LOL I still want to make over the basement but time, money and energy have stopped my process LOL. I'll get back to it, I dont know when but Im determined. Like you said, "little at a time" You're doing an amazing job, so glad we've been on this decluttering journey together Sharon. Hi Danni, the Instant Pot is a very valuable tool but in order to get use out of it I think you should ponder about what purpose you want it to serve. For example, I use mine for stews, soups, and curries. It’s basically what I used to use a crock pot for, but it only takes 18 minutes to cook.
My suggestion is, check out a book on EASY instant pot recipes, or look online if you prefer. Take inspiration from that, and see if it’s something you can fit into your cooking routine. I really swear by my instant pot and my family always loves the meals it creates! (I emphasized EASY because for me the beauty of the instant pot is its simplicity and some recipes out there are unnecessarily complicated. But there are so many easy recipes too :)
Keep acting crazy in that room maybe the other neighbor will put up a fence, lol. Always love watching you and your mom. Enjoy the day. 😊

I'm surprised she let go of the spatulas that she did let go of (I feel like that didnt make sense 😆) Tony says thanks...he turn 69, last year in his 60's, although he tells people he is about 4-5 years younger LMBO I have a serious problem creating emotional attachment to items that even slightly remind me of my childhood, even a mail holder ha! I have it in the maybe pile currently, but I think its so CUTE!

We started minimizing last August. Were brutal. Our community has a yard sale day in the spring so over the winter I collected everything I decluttered, cleaned & priced it, boxed it up & stored in the basement. We sold all our small appliances including the keurig, microwave, food processor etc.. We do pour over for coffee & just use stove or grill for cooking. It frees so much space in kitchen. You really don’t need all those appliances & kitchen gadgets to cook a great meal.
Beautiful peonies. I have some in my yard. ☺️
They have become my new favorite flower, every year I get more and more but this year I have had bushel fulls of peonies, they smell amazing they're absolutely stunning I only wish I could have them all year long. @@danniraearranged I saw a video saying you can clip them and store them in the fridge to spread out the enjoyment of them since it is a short period of time. If you Google it it can show you how others do it and when to clip and how to store. I have not tried this. I forgot to. 🤣 Maybe next year. You have a bunch though so I bet you could try next time and see if it works well so you can enjoy them for a longer time. 🙂 And I like to yap. 🤣 Glad you are cool with that. 😎

Lol!🤣🤣your mom looked Absolutely looked annoyed during your explanation, I'm hearing you but??? What I came to realize is it hurts the environment when we buy so much and throw away so much, when you think about it we've polluted the earth for the next generation🤔 Your video came up as I was decluttering my linen closet, I'm getting rid of sheets extra pillow cases, I only need 2 sets for each bed. Thanks for the motivation.
🤣🤣🤣 I thought the exact same thing when I was editing, oh my gosh im cry laughing right now ha!!!! And yes, I completely 1000% agree with you, I didnt realize it years ago but when I started getting serious with the decluttering process is when I fully recognized the waste I was creating. Another lesson the decluttering process has taught me! Another lesson im grateful for! And thats what I try to do, 2 sets of sheets for each bed, I have to go through linens again, esp. the cabin linens, oh my gosh I cant believe how many blankets, sheets etc were up there. I wish I had a linen closet. Always so HAPPY to see you here with me friend 🥰🥰
