I really hope you enjoy today's video, its jam-packed with motivation! but I also lose the motivation...but then regain it 🤣and of course things continue to break, we get into all of that in todays video! I wanted to mention a couple things, this video is SUPER chatty, I'd say 99% of the video is chatting, but its a fun time HA! Its also super long & I forgot to mention a couple things, #1 when we're in the 4 season working on the toy cabinet, theres a white rubber bucket I hold up, all those items were decluttered #2 theres a sheet on the kitchen window, not sure why i felt the need to mention it, but I do 🤣 I need new curtains. Luv & appreciate ya so much! XOXO

This is what I came across on the web before I did my overflow sections :
"Designate a "backstock" area so that high-traffic areas can stay neat and clutter-free. Especially if you have a busy household or do a lot of Costco shopping, you should definitely find a space in the home to use as a backstock area. It can be way up high on the top shelf of your pantry, in a cabinet in the garage, or in the linen closet. Creating a system is easy if you can keep the limits on the amount of stuff you own or have a separate space for the overflow. " (Source - Buzzfeed)
      Designate Spaces for Backstock --------
One of the tenets of The Home Edit is “backstock,” or useful extra stuff you store at home, like toothpaste, pantry goods, and of course, toilet paper. If there’s one thing 2020 taught us, it’s that having those essentials on hand is way better than vying for them in a sold-out grocery store during times of emergency.
The Home Edit is about being organized, not minimalist. So, having a logical backstock system is a core part of the method. While we hope to see no more toilet paper shortages in the near future, now’s a good time to organize your home, create spaces for backstock, and always be prepared. (Source - lifesavvy.com)
      ------------
“Backstock” refers to any surplus of products - like cleaning supplies, pantry items, beauty supplies, etc. - that are purchased as a backup for when you run out. It’s important to create a space for these items, whether in a cabinet, drawer, or even a separate shelving unit in a garage or storage room.
Doing this helps you a) easily find your backstock items and b) keep track of what and when you need to repurchase.
We often designate bins for backstock in pantries, much like Clea and Joanna’s team do for Jordana Brewster in Episode 7. It’s important to make sure backstock spaces are clearly labeled so you know to check them first for replacement items!
      (Source - moxiespace.com) --------------
Lovers of Costco and the Buy One, Get One sale, rejoice. The Home Edit has a solution for storing multiples and extras products! In a store, backstock is leftover stock. In your home, backstock is the backup item hanging around the shelf. Maybe you have a spare bottle or two of your favorite shampoo in the bathroom, extra laundry detergent, or multiple boxes of pasta in the pantry.
According to The Home Edit Instagram, you can maximize your space by storing backstock above and below in a room. This tip means using the ground or a top-shelf that is too tall to hold things that you don't need to access daily. The main goal of storing backstock is to keep your high-traffic spaces clutter-free. Creating a designated area for backstock will make you aware of what you have so you don't overbuy, even if you can't pass up a good sale. (Source - housedigest.com)

I love your talking. Talking to us. Talking to yourself. Talking to the wall. It's all good. I often watch UA-cam while I'm doing other things so I like that you talk because you're narrating what you're doing but you're also providing your own thoughts, inspiration, commentary. So I don't have to stare at a screen the whole time and can work along with you.

"betcha" ing 😂🤣🤣 hilarious! You are so dang sweet, thank you! It's crazy because before I started my journey to minimalism I didn't even realize that I was in a...how do I wanna say this... Generational pattern, is that a correct way to say that? (You said it better lol " hoarding traditions and cycles"... 💯) It wasn't until I started minimalism and I realized that I was following in my grandmother's footsteps and my mother's footsteps, and now I see my daughter and my son randomly decluttering and getting rid of stuff or better yet making better decisions on what they want to bring in the home. It's amazing! 🥰

Yaaassssss the overflow section!!!!!! Yay!!! I love you!!!! 😃😃😃Champion!!! 😃😃 Yes designing it like a supermarket!!!! Oh, I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Yes you're right it's part of The Home Edit's organizational system.. it's totally changed my life - (I also totally don't need any credit for sharing the overflow section idea, it wasn't an original idea of mine, but is something that has totally next-level worked for me and I just had to share!!)
I was (...on the down-low...) using my dishwasher as a pantry\space to store extra food before I did this to the kitchen, as well as extra food in an under-bed storage on wheels, and now its all in the kitchen in cupboards and pantries like it should be in a super organized and clarified system, SUCH a relief!
I used to try cram everything into the one area, and now with doing the overflow system everything looks and feels (and is!) so much more organized and finally I know where things are, omg so much better than ever before!!
Re: writing stuff down & to do lists - Have you heard of the dot journalling concept (also known as bullet journalling) ? Basically the concept is a journal + planner + schedule in one, and what you do is number each of the pages and put an index at the front.
I started doing it for every day life stuff then it expanded to doing it for everything - one for cleaning, medicine, essential oils, events, travel, even one for each room of the house so I have tips and tricks for cleaning and whatever that room needs, like for instance the laundry book has what the symbols all mean and what works to get different stains out; I can write down any repairs or ideas for projects as well and because of the index in front its less easy to lose notes!
You can also do it digitally if you want with a folder system and have a few to-do lists and other relevant templates printed out and ready to go in your folder for when you need to use them!
I've also just made a lists book, which includes everything from lists of what to declutter to lists of pantry staples, freezer items, travel and packing lists, and more! Good on you Danielle! You're doing so great! We're super grateful for you!!!

Friend you are the ABSOLUTE BEST!!! Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you, I'm still getting back to comments (I'm really far behind on getting back to everybody because it has been pretty crazy the last 2 days 😂) but I see all of your comments and you are such a sweetie, I just appreciate all of the comments, all of the advice all of the ideas and suggestions, and I'm so super grateful that you're here with me. So BIG thank you 🥰 the overflow section and the supermarket idea are just brilliant, I had to do the overflow section and I absolutely have to do the supermarket organization on the kitchen I cannot wait, it's going to take a bit of planning but I think that this is really going to make a huge difference. And you are so super organized, you should have your own channel, you're brilliant at all of this. Never would have thought to use bullet journaling, I've actually never heard of this concept before, but it sounds amazing. I think having a journal planner and schedule all in one just makes life so much easier, I probably wouldn't do it digitally just because I'm more of a pen to paper type gal 🤣 but I really think this will help keep me on track. I never would have thought to do something like that, and I'm writing it down 😂 thank you again, I'm so HAPPY you're here with me 🥰

@@danniraearranged I'm thrilled for you! The bullet journalling thing has saved me, before that I had paper and notes literally everywhere & could never find them when I needed them, now though, I do a bujo for every major project & it keeps it all contained! lolol Thank you for saying that I'm super organized, it doesn't feel like I am alll of the time, but I've definitely made massive progress (like leaps and bounds!) the last few years that I've been more mindful about my space & where things should be + doing bujos! I don't like or do digital planners either, I get weird tech issues too so trusting a digital planner is dicey and no-go for me too, the notebook option gives you tangibility and flexibility, both things I thoroughly enjoy! You are absolutely welcome, I feel blessed to be able to share good advice that has helped me along the way especially when it helps 😃😍🥰 You're a joy to share this journey with, a ray of sunshine & I am so excited for you seeing these transformations you're working so hard on, Good luck with the electrician, we look forward to your next video Danni!

OMGoodnoess! YOU talk to YOU like I talk to ME!!! Finally.... someone who thinks the way I do!!! rofl You are doing sooooo awesome!! I am truly impressed AND inspired. With our heat...(which I don't handle very well) and brain that is willing, but body that isn't..... I am slowly forging forward on my quest to not only clean, but organize and let go of as much as I comfortably can in the moment. I keep telling myself I can always get rid of more.... baby steps. One nice thing my husband has been doing some of this along with me... separate areas, but still, it's inspiring and encouraging and sometimes.... we get confirmation from each other it's OK to let something GO!!! Keep on being terrific!!! You have a beautiful aura that shows forth.... we all have our low points... lol My poor mom couldn't wear any type of watch... it would literally DIE within days of getting a NEW one. We just have to realize our moments. In my house... I can't have two things plugged into an outlet and going at the same time... or we trip the breaker... so unplug the fan to use the microwave or air fryer... and it goes on and on. YOU ARE AN AWESOMELY, FUNNY and BEAUTIFUL PERSON... ❤❣

I agree, Dani - you are blessed, and it is nice to hear your gratitude. I can't wait to see your bedroom makeover. You and Ian deserve a nice space. Just an idea, have you thought about mounting your TV on the wall where your chair is? You could get a swivel arm which will allow you to move it to fit in the space. This way you can get a tall dresser and put it in your closet, but you would still have space for hanging and folded clothes as well as shoes. You could also put some sort of small storage on the wall your door opens up to. Just some ideas.

You are so dang SWEET!!! Cannot tell you enough how much this means to me. You always brighten up my day Beth! Thank you! And good news the electrician came out today and it has nothing to do with my electrical, apparently my electrical is just fine and completely safe, bad news is he said it's my meter, so apparently half of my meter is working LOL he said it in a more technical way, but basically I'm not getting enough energy from the meter. So I had to have my energy company come out today and they put something temporary for right now so my house is working fine, but they may have to rip my entire deck out to get to the lines that are underground. I'll explain more in the next video I'll also show pictures of what I'm talking about because I can't explain it 🤣🤣🤣 so I look at this as a positive because it's better than having to spend five to eight grand getting a new panel, I thought for sure I was going to have to get a new electric box, the most important thing is the house is safe. And thank you for making me feel so much better, it truly does make me feel better to know that I'm not the only one, I'm not alone in this. Thanks for always being here with me friend 🥰😘

Hi Dani. To clean pillows and such I ordered a large netted laundry bag. You put your pillows or other delicates in the bag in the washer on light or gentle cycle. It works better and easier than the bath tub.Oh and ps baking soda is not good for vacuums it clogs the works. I googled that so it's true lol. Yeah but really it can't be good.Despite many online guides recommending baking soda for cleaning carpets, there are dangers to using this homemade cleaning product. Baking soda can clog your vacuum's filters when it's vacuumed up from the carpet. Even worse, if your vacuum's filters have a leak, then the baking soda particles could ruin the motor.Mar 4, 2022

That same electrical issue happened to us 2 years ago. We had to have our panel replaced. The incoming line from the electric service was fried, and in turn was burning inside my panel and causing the breakers to burn out. Be careful. That can cause a major fire.

Your kids are learning a valuable life skill by decluttering their stuff. The more they use it, the better they get.
My house is almost 20 years old, not too bad. But it went through a phase where everything was needing replaced. AC, fridge, water heater… I’ve replaced every appliance except my oven over the course of two years. I’m replacing the floors now (from builder grade carpet) and then I have a light fixture that doesn’t work that I have to replace, a porcelain TP holder that is embedded in the wall that got broken. Oh, and a crack in a seam in my drywall. I feel your pain, girl!
As far as a shampooer, whatever one you get , make sure you can easily clean the dirty water tank. I got one that works great, except I can’t get my hand into the dirty water tank to clean it and the residue builds and it gets dirty to the point that it needs more than a rinse. Mine is Bissel brand and it works great as far as cleaning power goes.

I've been looking for pumice stones lately!
I had a stain on my tub from an ayurvedic remedy (long embarrassing story I won't get into..) but the method I read up on was to actually use bicarb and vinegar into a paste and then put a towel or cloth over the stain to lift the stain\s out of the tub.. Seems to have worked quite well, but might need to do it one more time just to get the last bit out.
Other tub cleaning options include: Lemon + salt, dishwashing tablet (or pod), 2:1 bicarb soda + hydrogen peroxide, vinegar + dish soap (and let sit), or plain ol' bleach! ^_^

Do you clean the filters in your appliances? You should be cleaning the filters in your dishwasher, washer, dryer, vacuum, ac, gas heater regularly. A lot of people will have their ac and gas heater serviced about once a year to upkeep it and make sure it's running efficiently and safely. You can always watch videos and do it yourself, but to get them serviced once a year is like $90. You are supposed to change your air filters like 4 times a year etc. When everything is clean, the engine will last longer. If you clean the coils on the fridge, your fridge will perform better etc. Obviously, the current issue is some bigger electrical issue.
In the future, don't buy things that don't need electrical components. the settings should all be manual buttons, you don't need any fancy screens, settings, or beeping. you don't need electrical stoves etc. you don't need dishwashers with electrical sensors that can tell when the door is closed, just get a dishwasher with a latch. the less screens on your appliances, the longer they will last. Get basic, good brands.

    • @danniraearranged
      @danniraearranged  Рік тому

We do change our air filters, I'd say about four times a year, I think Ian does that every 3 to 4 months, we do have our AC and gas heater serviced, we have our gas heater serviced once a year, but I will say that the AC doesn't get serviced as frequently as the gas heater, so that's something that we should really be paying more attention to. I will admit Ian does most of this stuff, but I really should know how to do a lot of this stuff. We just got a new fridge and dishwasher, and I'll admit with our last dishwasher we did not clean the filter because it was so old we had no idea how to even get to the filter, so it's really nice that we have a new one cuz I know exactly how to get to the filter with that one, so I have to get into the habit of really keeping that clean.
I also wrote down what you said about the electrical components, I wouldn't have even thought about something like that, so that's really good to know, especially for any future purchases. Just stick with the good basic brands! 💯 I really really appreciate you sharing this with me, these are things that I really should know more about. And thank you so much for watching and being here, I appreciate ya so much 🥰

I have a theory, maybe that's something you've already known. You hate your kitchen therefore you do not like being there and you just threw everything in piles so you hate it even more and the circle goes round and round, all of your other places are usually picked up because you make huge efforts to feel there at home, but there is no heart for this kitchen whatsoever, I think that until you'll make huge makeover to it it will haunt you... Just keep telling yourself it's for now and step by step you'll get there when time and money will be right
That's something I always feel about certain spaces at my house until I won't change it to the way I actually enjoy it

The rest of my house is usually picked up, I mean of course there's times when the whole house is flipped upside down but not as frequently as the kitchen. The kitchen is always a disaster. And I think you're absolutely right, I think until I do a makeover on the kitchen, as well as make it functional, I feel like it's just an area that I really dislike and it just keeps becoming a disaster. You're so spot on on this.

Although I have no idea what I'm talking about 😜 I absolutely love your house, it's huge, you did such an amazing job with decorating it too, I'm excited to see how you decorate for fall, Halloween and Christmas. I bet the game room is amazing. One of the main reasons why I have a difficult time exporting my videos, when I do have issues exporting, is I think my internet connection. So I have to make sure that I have a strong connection I've even had to contact my internet company to see what's going on cuz there's been times where I either can't upload or it's literally taking hours and hours and hours to upload. I still don't understand why considering that we have literally the fastest speed internet possible, but then again it is me. But yes regular uploading is a great idea. Isn’t it always a cascade of things with home repairs? We just spent a lot of money repairing a crack in our foundation, had some electrical work done, and splurged a bit on new carpet for the bedrooms, and immediately the dining room light broke in such a way that we will need a professional to fix it.
So, for now we’re eating by the light of the kitchen because we don’t want to dip into our emergency fund. I’m sure the moment we fix the light something else will go. 😅😅

Ohhh! You made me laugh…your inner dialogue trying to get yourself motivated and the ther-mom-o-stat.

It sounds like your electrical the neutral has been grounded. Please have it looked into.

I wrote this down so I could show the electrician. I have an electrician coming out tomorrow, he wasn't supposed to come until Thursday but he had a cancellation for tomorrow and asked if I wanted him to come sooner, I was like yes absolutely please. I can handle getting new tires or dealing with appliances stuff like that, but electrical scares me, that freaks me out. Really appreciate you sharing this with me. Thank you 🥰
