@@KJDogluvthis particular ‘influencer’ has acknowledged this exact phenomenon in a few of her videos. She did say she is aware and apologizes. However our culture can’t help but continue to ask and try to fix their struggles by buying more and more. Even if they are trying to minimize certain areas
What brand and size are the baskets for Tom’s clothes? I’ve been wanting to do this same thing with my man’s clothes but the fabric bins I tried were a joke. I need something sturdy and will last (like yours)!
My face when I see the Minimal Mom has dropped an hour plus long video 😍. Dawn, you are my favorite UA-camr and even though I am very tidy with a minimal house, I still devour your content. Thank you for all you do!
Salsa is such a deal at Costco that we would always have a big jar open and it would go bad before we could use it up. Uggh! Last year I had a lightbulb moment. Now whenever we open a new jar, I divide it up into several small jars. One jar goes in the fridge and the rest go into the freezer. No more wasted salsa!
Costco bagels and muffins -- one of the 2 sleeves/containers goes directly into the freezer so we can eat something other than bagels/muffins and still finish them before they grow mold!
I do the same thing with Costco boned chicken breast. 1/3 bag refrigerator. 1/3 bag freezer, 1/3 bag freezer. I also stopped buying the larger packages of hummus and guacamole for the individual sized ones (I live by myself). I put most in the freezer with 2-3 in the fridge. As I use them, I move more to the fridge.
Dawn, this is why we love you!! You show what your refrigerator really has in it! You don't pre-clean to look super human or perfect. You show your real self and that's why you have such a huge following! I'm subscribed to many channels on youtube. Mostly minimalism and health/fitness. No videos make me feel as good as your videos do! ❤
N I N E ! ! Your youngest can’t be that old already! I enjoy your videos and your sweet family! When I see you guys decluttering to donate it helps me do the same!
Just what I would think to do: put any extras ( from multi-packs, etc) into a bin on your basement shelves? I'd make a dry-erase list or keep something one on my phone to keep track of inventory or just always check there first before going out to shop. I live in a small, inefficient space (tools, DIY, laundry supplies, etc in kitchen cabinets) that I drool over your nice clean basement storage space! I am watching for a bit then setting the timer for 5 minutes to declutter/clean and coming back for more inspiration. Getting a lot done today!
I’ve been watching you for a few years, Dawn, and my husband asks, “You’re watching the Minimal Mom again? Do you really learn new things each time?” (Not in a condescending way, of course). And the answer is a resounding YES! I learn new things, am reminded of old tips I’ve forgotten, and overall just get WEEKLY motivation to keep decluttering alongside of you. Thank you for all you do! My home functions better because of you!
Yes! Same here! When I started listening Dawn made a comment that she really never runs out of things to talk about in her videos and I didn’t believe it. Fast forward to today, I get so excited for every weekly video she posts because she was right, even the old reminders are always so fresh and helpful! To top it all off Dawn is such a delight to listen to, the kind of person who you know you could stop in any time and always feel at home! Lastly, my home functions so much better because of you too Dawn! Lifetime subscriber here! Every time I don’t have the motivation, I hear your voice saying, “5 minutes matters!” And I find a way to get it done. Lots of love here from WI!
You will be so proud of me.... going through my bathroom cosmetics I came across two boxes of a very nice mascara (cuz I got it for a 3 for the price of 1 sale) I had wanted to try it so I got it. I don't use mascara that much, lol. So.... I asked my younger neighbor if she would like the two boxes that had been sitting in my drawer. It happened to be the kind she was wearing 😁. She was so grateful to get it and it made me so happy.
Okay I was a massive hoarder. I set a really bad example for my ex and my daughter with my inability to let things go. In the beginning I made a game with finally letting things go. We had so many yard sales. We'd pick an item we really wanted for our home and we could only get it if we sold enough from our house. That summer we were able to buy a really nice gazebo, "grown up' silverware, a PlayStation and Xbox, and a Keurig which is saying something considering we priced everything cheap! Anyway - I've definitely gotten rid of things I've regretted but I'm not upset because for every 1 item I've regretted there have been hundreds more that I don't even remember and that space is so worth the little bit of regret that I occasionally feel. Even though I make mistakes I still let go because I love me more than I love any item in my home
Thanks for sharing. I'm having the WORST time letting go. I'm such a pack-rat! Just the thought of getting rid of so much stuff fills me with anxiety and brings tears to my eyes. Your words make it feel a little better.
I love how you say, “I just didn’t know!” I now have learned from the data about clothes I bought, donated, bought AGAIN, and donated AGAIN! There are some styles, textures, cuts, fabrics, etc that my fantasy self loves, but my real self will never wear. Button down shirts, scoop necks, sleeveless, shorts, modal… all a hard nope for me in the long run.
What a valuable thing to learn to recognize overtime! :-) One thing that helped clarify this process for me in a way that for me has really worked and gets me compliments is what Carol Tuttle teaches in “Live Your Truth“. Knowing what truly harmonizes with my innate energy expression feels good. And makes shopping and getting dressed a heck of a lot easier!
When I was decluttering 'big time' I took digital pictures of unused sentimental items. I also prayed over all items...that the next 'steward of my stuff' will be blessed & have a happy life. Doing these 2 things made & still makes letting go a breeze! ♡
Once a week I gather all the leftovers, warm up the ones that need to be served hot, open the condiments and chip bags, fruit that needs to be eaten, etc and each one eats whatever he wants. Things don’t always go together but our family loves this and I don’t have to cook and food is not wasted then when bits and pieces of breakfast foods accumulate I do the same, the last of a box of cereal, two frozen waffles, a bagel and an English muffin, the last slice of bread, a pop tart, a cold biscuit, an envelop of oatmeal and the last bit of milk or butter or jam, etc. I leave these breakfast bits out all morning and we always seem to make a lunch out of then too. Kids (and adults) love this.
I love decluttering. I grew up in a hoarding home with “paths” through the house, and ever since I fled the coop over a decade ago, I’ve struggled with my attachment to things. It was actually Vera from “ simple happy zen” who started me on my decluttering journey, however it’s been you, Dawn, who has continued to propel me forward every week. I love your videos because I always end finding something to declutter while I’m watching your channel, even though I do it in a regular basis on my own. If you’re new to this concept and you afraid that you won’t be able to do it, if I can, you can! God bless ❤🎉
I love how you keep reminding us not to feel guilty and it’s just stuff - stuff that needs to be managed. I find with my time will tell stuff that when I revisit it, I decide to get rid of it because I don’t want to have to make a third decision on it. Noticing this pattern has made me trust my instincts on the first pass just to get rid of it. 😊
I am astonished at how you are CONSTANTLY decluttering and your house is SOOOO minimal yet you always find more that can be decluttered.. it's amazing and so inspiring! ❤👏🏻 Love these super long videos too!!!
Re: LOL Glamper . I donated a fully-stocked collector Lundby dollhouse years ago to the Children's Wing of our local hospital. The staff was thrilled! Re: Salsa. We had that issue so I created a Salsa Soup recipe. Everyone loves it. Re: Produce. We take ours out of plastic and wrap it in old kitchen towels. The produce lasts longer and tastes better. I appreciate that you show - and drive home - that Minimalism is not a one and done. It's kind of like marriage; we need to invest time into it in order to reap the dividends.
It's really reassuring that you struggle with the same things that we all do. So often I beat myself up for my house not staying decluttered and needing continual purging and sorting....but then when I see your house needs it too, that makes me take a breath and stop stressing so much.
Sue Wolfe- Oh Dawn, you had me laughing when you got rid of the tan 3/4 sleeve "winter" blouse because you said you didn't like the color on you, then you bought a short sleeve one in the same color!! That's absolutely something I would do! I think you're a "spring" rather than a "fall". Maybe have your colors done so you can find those that don't wash you out, as you said. It's a fun process and will save you money in the long run! 😉❤️❤️
My Aunt taught me how to fold clothes and iron. I think parents need to have some input with teaching our kids. Teachers are not the parents. They are there to teach them skills in math , English, science, home economics , history, woodworking , etc. They have enough to do.
How can school teach one to manage the inventory of a home? Parents need to teach this skill to themselves and then model it consistently to their children.
I'm with you, clutter is such a common problem many kids do not get this training at home but it sure impacts their lives. This would be a great topic in home economics. They could even introduce ideas of putting like with like for organization and the container concept in earlier grades, it could be fun.
Kids are graduating from public school without being able to read. This is firmly in “family learning” territory. Get a grip on your expectations for schools.
My dear Carla, I was in your shoes 12 years ago. Bless you! Take a deep breath. Work from corner to corner. If the paper back books are clean retirement homes will take them. I had 1000 books. If not they can be put in paper recycling. Hint.. don't look at photos as you go, just put in bin for later. They will hold up the process otherwise. Good luck and know we are rooting for you. Hugs!
I was glad to see that even though you have been doing this so long, there are still moments when you get overwhelmed and need a break. We are getting ready to move and have had most of our stuff in storage for over 2 years! I know i will be decluttering a ton! I am trying to keep in mind that "5 minutes matters." Plus, I have a sister in law who also watches your videos, and we will share all of our decluttering victories with each other. Body doubling is real!
@@beccismith4454 Yes, it is. We will send each other pictures of full garbage bags of stuff or our cars full of donations. It definitely helps to have someone who shares the same ideas.
Another idea, from Christine at Frugal Fit Mom- reverse meal plan. Look at what is in your fridge and plan meals so you use up your ingredients that you already own.
my mom was on a tight budget for 8 people in 70s. She only bought groceries based on her 8 meals grocery list. (almost everyone eats only about 8 actual meals and left overs per week). The waste was minimal, and her garden was huge which meant she was always adding two or three vegetable sides to round up the meals. Buying for the actual 8 meals you eat, plus sandwich meat or sandwich breads will help you get that issue under control 100%. I myself have been fighting wastage so have been keeping the costs down and using up lots more stuff. oops I forgot to mention that she used vegetables to make a soup for a weekend meal.
I bulk cook and freeze extra portions, ready to throw in the microwave when I have no energy. Yay for healthy "ready meals" without all the additives. When were all sick for a week, I was all set with frozen, dried and tinned easy meals so we could isolate (not go to the store etc). I'll also buy a 1kg bag of carrots then peel, chop and freeze them in bags of 2carrots portions, ready to throw into Shepherd's Pie, Ragu etc. Same goes for other veggies, and fruits! My boy and I will gladly eat a bowl of frozen mango, berries and sliced bananas as if it's ice cream 😂 ... My point is, try freezing anything you won't have time to cook/eat fresh before it goes off. My Polish, Czech&Slovak friends also love pickling veggies as an alternative method to avoid waste.
I started the habit long ago of putting the date on opened things that spoil quickly or won't be used up immediately. I also put the date and description on the lids of leftover containers. Keeping a sharpie and a roll of painter's tape in the utility drawer for marking dates has saved me thousands in wasted food over the years!
I write straight on our tubs with a dry erase pen; just wipe it off before you microwave it 😅 I'm always cooking for 4 or 5 (there's only 3 of us) so future me has "ready meals" in the freezer, when I don't have the time or energy to cook from scratch.
I ask that same question, "How's there so much stuff," for you since you've been decluttering for such a long time. But, I guess, it accumulates for all of us. This teaches us that decluttering is an ongoing process! It's not once and done!
A family changes and grows in their lives. Kids obviously grow up and go thru stages. Adults also go thru different stages of life and interests over time. This is one reason decluttering is a continual process.
I purged my house four or five years ago and loved the new simplicity. All our stuff fits with room to spare. However, watching this video has motivated me to go to the next level of decluttering. I'm thinking completely empty shelves and drawers are not a bad thing, not bad at all. Thank you! ❤
I’ve been following you long enough to remember when the lol camper made its way into the girls’ room, it’s bittersweet bc Maggie’s growing up but I’m sure someone else’s child will love it just as much! I feel like I’m with you on this journey 😭🤣
I love my kindle so much. No fuss with physical books bulk and the silent messages they send. I’m a life long reader, lead a book club, member of another book club, and my kindle travels so well!
As a fan of paper books, I use our local library to fuel my book habit instead of buying them 😂 I'm actually reading more nowadays, that I don't have to spend money or find a place to keep them!
I find the declutter of the whole house so relatable. Nothing like a home feeling more spacious and airy after. I took a filled black garbage bag and box to Salvation Army today. A load for dump is ready for tomorrow.
You have made such a difference in my life for so many years. Sometimes when I am having a hard day I put you on just to listen to your uplifting and genuine voice.💕💕💕
This really helped me today! I am in the process of minimizing our home, and I am also a new mom to a 7 month old who is on the go. I was able to make a lot of progress just by having you talk to me along the way. Thank you so much for the free content and inspo!
Why do I love watching you declutter your home? I do not know!! But I really appreciate all of your videos and you help me keep de-cluttering in the front of my mind! And you have also saved me from buying a lot of stuff that I don't need. Thanks for all you do :)
I've said it before, but seeing you and hearing you make "mistakes" and how you process that is EXTREMELY helpful. Our generation was instilled with trash guilt and it's paralyzing sometimes! Thanks for everything you've done over the years.
I love how upbeat you are. It definitely helps to motivate me to keep decluttering. It is hard to overcome the guilt when donating something I've paid good money for, but I try to remember that feeling when I am out shopping for something because it keeps me on track and very intentional in just purchasing what I came for and not getting sidetracked by other things just because they're pretty
I would love to have a laundry room!! And on the main floor - how ideal! My washer and dryer are in the "cellar" (most people use the word' basement' now :) I do have a little clothes line, rack with hangers, and small table for laundry supplies so all in all I am blessed!!!! As I write this I realize how lucky I am. Embrace the cellar laundry spot!! LOL
That is a really good way to look at it. I recently sold shoes that not only had been expensive but so so pretty, but I almost never wore them because they are really narrow in the toes and become uncomfortable when wearing for a bit. So I sent them out and was still feeling regret and thinking about what if I had just given them another chance? (Which is so incredibly silly, I knew I never wore them and they were already in the mail!). But then the buyer sent me a message about how much she loves them and is greatful to have found them and at a good price. And now I know they're in good hands and will be worn and appreciated. Of course you don't get that experience every time; but just from the once, I can remember that in the future, even if I don't get that feedback, I'll now someone will be happy.
When I was decluttering 'big time' I took digital pictures of unused sentimental items. I also prayed over all items...that the next 'steward of my stuff' will be blessed & have a happy life. Doing these 2 things made & still makes letting go a breeze! ♡
I’m 64 and I’ve been following you for a couple years. You are so right about what a difference decluttering makes. I wouldn’t have believed it when I first started but now I can’t believe how much extra time I have to do the things I really want to do. Thank you for all you do!!
I have been on our minimalist journey for a while... homeschooling mom of 5, soon to be 6... I challenged myself today while watching this video to fill two boxes with excess homeschool curriculum/stuff that I haven't or don't plan to use again... I am a bookaholic and "keep everything just in case" person... So this was a huge challenge but I did it! Two more boxes added to the donate pile! I know there is more to do but one victory at a time!
Thank you so much Dawn! I feel so motivated and seen by every single one of your videos. These house declutters are especially helpful to remember that we are all human and it’s ok to feel the stuff creep in and declutter it again. I love listening to you talk, it just calms and focuses me somehow 😂 Love love love your content, it has changed my life ❤
Been having a rough patch. Was looking for video to accompany me while trying to get my house back in order. An hour is a good time! Surprised to find your video just now! Thanks Dawn!
Aww loved everything about this and so refreshing to see even your house needs some maintenance. Love that you are real and honest about sharing that with us and always providing the best motivation. Thank you!
We live in a fairly small townhouse (1700 sq ft) with our 4 children still at home, and I always have a hard time figuring out where to put stuff (what zones should be where). We also homeschool and we own two businesses. I’d love to not have the desk in our room but because of the layout (one living area with living room, kitchen and dining), it seems like it’s really the only place for it. I’d love for you to do a video sometime explaining how you decided where your zones would be, how you decided what would go in the laundry room vs in the spare bedroom etc. Love your videos - always so helpful. Thank you!
I love your word "inventory" to describe having too much of anything. These videos are very helpful and inspiring. I play them while I declutter a space! Thank you!
You coach me in the present ! if i read or watch a show I can't remember everything. You have addressed all the feelings that I have when I'm working on things. Your video is exactly what I needed I haven't been able to find one like yours it makes me get up and guides me even if I'm doing a different project then you're talking about it reminds me of the "why's"
Yes! Don't forget school clubs and retirement centres for crafting materials too 😊 ... Likewise, I donated my son's baby toys to the church baby group once he'd outgrown them.
Cleaning out my former art studio/office that became the "junk room" so we can turn it into a nursery. This is the room that I've put off the longest and the time has come. The need is GREAT 😅 so I've got this video going in the background, I've got my handy dandy trash bag, donation box and even a Time Will Tell box ready just in case, and I'm gonna body double with Dawn while I listen to her good Ole wisdom and phrases that I've adopted, chanting like a mantra. This room will not defeat me! I've been training for this for years. I can do it! All thanks to you Dawn ❤
I just came across your channel and this is exactly what I was looking for. Some inspiration and gentle approach with someone to guide me through decluttering. Love your personality and your videos are fun and easy to watch.. theyre super relatable. Thank you so much!
Thank you for posting this video & sharing your journey with us for all these years!! This really encourages me that even in a minimal home, you still get so much build up of inventory and have to declutter & donate a car load of stuff every 6 months or so. I often feel so defeated by the amount of stuff that accumulates in our home, but this helps me to see how normal it is, and that I'm not a bad homemaker just because I'm constantly having to declutter more. So thank you for your very real, very relatable content!!! - Lindsay Robertson
I loved when you went under the bed to pull out all the weird random items that get pushed under there! I don't feel alone now when I go under my grandkids bed and find the oddball stuff (like a can of peanuts with most of them on the floor!). Loved the video, it made me get up and go through my pantry items!😊😊
I watched this video the day it came out. Since then I went back to the start of this playlist and watched them all again. My house had started to feel hard and overwhelming so using these videos to either body double or motivation I have been going over my house again. Thank you for your help xx
I'm amazed at the normality of buying new clothes each season. I certainly don't have money for that, and so when I get something, I buy clothing that will last at least five years. I've had the same good quality winter coat for over 15 years. And the same smart dress for over seven years. Would we not do better as minimalists to buy really good quality, timeless classic pieces that suit our body and colouring that last more than two or three years at least? We would then be saving money overall; time and effort with not having to go shopping and then declutter; and more importantly we will be good stewards of the environment by not contributing to landfills.
Any particular brands you would recommend for good quality clothes? We can't afford brand new, expensive name brands, but I can keep an eye out for them on resale. Would love to have clothes that last a long time, like the cotton/linen skirts that I have worn every day for the past 4 years. Other than some stains, they have held up so well. Makes me wish I had bought more than 4!
I don't buy new clothes each season either. I love my wardrobe. I only buy a new item when one has worn out or I don't like it anymore. Most items last years and years if you take good care of them :)
I find it helpful (if the weather where you live allows) to buy clothes that can be worn from one season to the next. Where I live I've found that if I buy a dress with a sleeve, it can work most days all year through. In the winter it would need stockings and a jersey but it would be the same dress I wear in the summer. And also wearing certain colours helps with not getting accessories and shoes that go with different colours. I have a dress I'm wearing regularly now in Spring that I bought 8 years ago in winter and have been wearing steadily since then.
The salsa is probably fine though =) I use up salsa by doing shreddeed chicken mixed with taco seasoning, bell peppers, nachos chips and cheese sauce or cream cheese in a baking pan and top with cheese !
We have six kids that are all out of the house except the baby… I GET the shoes! Ugh. You are my inspiration to start decluttering and I have started!!!! Thank you!
When my kids were growing up - and still small - I used a small mess bag with each one & had their names on them - They were in charged with putting dirty socks in their bag - until laundry day - the bag went in & came out clean - I mated the socks & they put the clean ones in their drawer - then the bag went back on their bedroom door knob to be repeated the next week.
Hi Dawn, I always just deep freeze the butter. So you have got it handy and it doesn't go to waste. No change in taste! Love your content. Greetings from Germany
I’m not the best at meal planning, but on Sunday night it’s left overs night - I pull everything out of the fridge and ring our dinner bell - a real bell so I don’t have to yell - and everyone gets to chose in the order in which they arrived in the kitchen! It makes it fun lol and I get a night off and a clean fridge
I love how brutal you are with the decluttering specifically that bin in the spare room 😬! I would have been so tempted to go through it one by one but I can sense the exhaustion it would bring on and that dump in the black bag was so real and the best way to simplify. I also see how as a mom who has to be the one to do it all most of the time having less inventory bring me peace. ❤ love this long video!
The Prepper Princess combines like liquid soaps scraps in the bottom of bottles and I combine things like laundry spot cleaner meant for the same types of stains and fabrics. Usually there's a little room in the new bottle to pour the remains of the last bottle. I also make myself use consumables I don't really like so I don't waste and as a reminder to purchase with care or I may be stuck using something I don't really like for months.
One thing I've done, when I've had lots of bottles of the same item, I've poured them all together into one bottle. Consolidated it all and saves space, gets rid of extra bottles and helps me use it up 👍 great for shampoos, soap, etc!
I am only halfway through the video, but I am already inspired to make some changes in my home, thank you. I liked the idea of "time tested" things. And I do like the serenity of the decluttered home, it feels sooo good! Gives you strenght to be more productive ❤
Love function over anything especially with a growing family . My bathroom counters are clear except for soap . We even went so far as when the time came to replace faucets we did away with the two handled faucets in the baths and eventually even the kitchen to single handled faucets ! So much easier and quicker to clean .
Even if I am not decluttering but working on something else, I enjoy listening to your videos. It helps me get my work done. I hope you share more hour long+ videos.
About 4 years ago I started using the Branch Basics cleaning system. You get a concentrate and bottles that have water levels and concentrate levels marked. Man, this has simplified my cleaning so much! I decided to try it when a reviewer stated she didn’t think a really small lid of soap could clean a large load of laundry, but it took stains out of her children’s clothes that had been there for a year. Game changer!
Seeing your pile at the end is interesting because things don't often come in in a big heap. My family's house is minimal and I declutter a shopping of things every other week or so so that items are also leaving at a similar pace as they come in.
Thank you for sharing. It really helped me give myself a little grace to realize that even someone on top of their clutter still has spaces that get out of control. Love you having a longer video like this to use for body doubling and motivation.
Thank you so much for this video. I always have your videos playing to calm me down when I get overwhelmed and it motivates me to get my home in order. When my significant other knows I'm watching a video of yours that I am going to start decluttering and cleaning. He has been a bit of a wall in getting rid of things that I KNOW THAT WE DON'T NEED OR USE... But I am trying to be patient with him. I got him to agree to use the time will tell bin. We got a plastic tote with a lid to put extra bed linens in that he can't let go for sentimental reasons. And put the bin outside on the back patio where it is out of sight and we can have the space in our closet. It is a struggle being a minimalist in a partnership with someone who is not. I am being patient and understanding in his wishes and he is being understanding about my stress with the clutter in our tiny apartment. Don't stop putting out these videos, Dawn! Thank you thank you thank you. Positive thoughts for you and your family!
Thanks Dawn. Love your videos. I don’t know very many people who I could make me feel excited and calm about decluttering all at the same time 😂 You have a kind heart.
What helps me in the fridge is, the moment I make a shopping list I look at my fridge and storage space...so I don't buy stuff that I still have :) works really well
I also use the Large laundry bags for seasonal wear storage ( gloves -sockcaps-etc) also for scarfs. Deep drawers are BETTER if you use this method. LOTS OF IDEAS💡😊❤
Just pressure washed the patio. Enjoying watching you work while I recover. Going to watch again when I have some energy. Shower and laundry left to do today. Ready for another declutter round.
Thank you so much for posting this video! We were hoarders, like 50+ totes, like everywhere. We decided to go minimal, because God calls us to be generous people. So, between our local buy nothing page, *some* items were consigned, the rest went all out on the curb. We are so blessed to have blessed so many people. Here in San Diego, so many people come across the border from the slums to shop our trash, it’s absolutely unreal. We’ve had tattered blankets and broken tote boxes taken out of our trash cans. It feels so good to know like 80-90% of our house is now bleeding the people of Tijuana and Ensenada.
This video was so helpful to me. A Huge Thank you! The segment about the guilt really spoke to me. It actually made me tear up because I find it difficult and feel guilty. I'm going through my own home and have been either donating or throwing out stuff over the past few weeks. And there's still more to do. I just feel guilty about it, the money spent, i feel it's such a waste. But then what you said about how we can also feel guilty about creating the cluttered places and making it difficult for self and for the family to get to things. For me the clutter just increases my anxiety and it gets overwhelming. So it's either feel guilty for keeping it or guilty for getting rid of it. But with getting rid of it, it is freeing and so much better to have the space and gives us time to do more important things. I'm beginning to see some progress in my home. My bedroom closet, dresser drawers are so much easier now to find things. I also liked the advice you gave about getting overwhelmed when doing a declutter. Yes, I get overwhelmed. I have to take a break, walk away and do something else. I then return and carry on.
My tip with food waste is to keep a Sharpie by the fridge, mine fits in the gap for the door handle, and EVERY time I open a fridge item, I write the date of opening on it. Sauces and condiments are the worst for not being used in time. Has really helped me cut down on food waste 😊
I just decluttered my entire apartment and it feels so good! Last time I did a whole declutter was about 5 months ago. Since becoming more minimal I don't have much to let go now but always surprised that I can still find stuff!

Is it just me or is it weird to post links to stuff to buy to add to my clutter?
Me too!!
Yep, totally agree 👍
I make the same face. It's like someone handed me a present. 🤩
I said “let’s goooooo”
YES 👍
Regarding decluttering regrets, I always remind myself of something that Cass once said. “This is a war, and there WILL be casualties”.
Ooo love that
LOVE THAT ❤
😂
That’s a GOOD ONE 😂 Loool
wow
Salsa is such a deal at Costco that we would always have a big jar open and it would go bad before we could use it up. Uggh!
Last year I had a lightbulb moment. Now whenever we open a new jar, I divide it up into several small jars. One jar goes in the fridge and the rest go into the freezer. No more wasted salsa!
That’s what we do
I do that with tortilla chips, too!
Yessssss that is exactly how I felt too!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate this!!! 🥰
Same same same!
Yes!
Oh, I love it when things work out just so easy!!!
That’s so kind 🥰🫶🏼
Because I love myself more than a stupid stapler of which I have 4! Thanks for these words.
What an inspiring story! Thanks for sharing this! 😊
Thanks for sharing. I'm having the WORST time letting go. I'm such a pack-rat! Just the thought of getting rid of so much stuff fills me with anxiety and brings tears to my eyes. Your words make it feel a little better.
@Jypsie415 I hope you start to feel better soon
I've been there as well! We. Can do this!
@@PaniaTurania Thank you!
Never forget someone else is super blessed when you donate good lightly used clothes! Cheerful giver vibes!
One thing that helped clarify this process for me in a way that for me has really worked and gets me compliments is what Carol Tuttle teaches in “Live Your Truth“.
What a great idea. I loved that you prayed that the items could bless someone else!
I love this!
My mother said “tonight’s dinner is COI” - clean out the icebox.
Yep, "Buffet Day" is awesome 😂
We call this our Signs dinner, lol. In the movie Signs, they each get their fave food before the invasion. Great way to use leftovers.
I watch Vera too!!
❤😊
I love how you keep reminding us not to feel guilty and it’s just stuff - stuff that needs to be managed. I find with my time will tell stuff that when I revisit it, I decide to get rid of it because I don’t want to have to make a third decision on it. Noticing this pattern has made me trust my instincts on the first pass just to get rid of it. 😊
same here!
I was about to comment this too! It’s just the same but short sleeve so can anticipate in being in next year’s get rid pile!
How do you determine your colors? I have no idea what my colors are. I am drawn to earthy tones.
I think these skills should be taught in all public schools ! So, important. Applied to all areas of your life
My Aunt taught me how to fold clothes and iron.
@@patriciagalanakis4540 Have you never heard of homec classes?
Oh, that’s so awesome having a sister-in-law that you can share this stuff with and encourage each other! Enjoy your move! 😍💫🍀
Great advice from your savvy mom! Thank you!
My boy and I will gladly eat a bowl of frozen mango, berries and sliced bananas as if it's ice cream 😂
I write straight on our tubs with a dry erase pen; just wipe it off before you microwave it 😅
I'm always cooking for 4 or 5 (there's only 3 of us) so future me has "ready meals" in the freezer, when I don't have the time or energy to cook from scratch.
I love the blue in your kitchen. I like the two color combo and open shelving.
The under the bed part cracked me up! With 4 kids, aged 1-8, this is my life 😆
You never know what you will find but it also can be fun to find something that is missing and also be grossed out too!
We keep our sons socks with his shoes in the entry and it helps us get out the door in the morning!!🎉
LOL
Make a pass through the refrigerator every Sunday or the day before you shop.
Garbage night weekly ritual clean out fridge
When donating really expensive or new items we like to think about the joy they will bring someone else!
I just started my minimalist journey and kind of overwhelmed! I have so much stuff! Your videos help though!!!!!
You got this!!!
You go girl! A little bit at a time, then suddenly, you'll see space where there was none before and it feels amazing! Cheers and hugs!

I’m 64 and I’ve been following you for a couple years. You are so right about what a difference decluttering makes. I wouldn’t have believed it when I first started but now I can’t believe how much extra time I have to do the things I really want to do. Thank you for all you do!!
Love watching you, lived in Minneapolis years ago. Good to hear a good Minnesotan voice.
I love listening to you talk, it just calms and focuses me somehow 😂 Love love love your content, it has changed my life ❤
Your videos always give me such motivation. You are so practical and relatable. Thank you.
Great way to use open jars of salsa is in taco meat or chilli! I often use jars of leftover tomato based things in soup and chilli!
Been having a rough patch. Was looking for video to accompany me while trying to get my house back in order. An hour is a good time! Surprised to find your video just now! Thanks Dawn!
Better days coming I hope🎉😮🎉
Oh good, I'm so glad to hear! You've got this!!!
"Maggie takes her socks off everywhere!"
You've no idea how good this makes me feel
I donated my granddaughter’s LOL things to the school before and after care program. They loved it.
Yes! Don't forget school clubs and retirement centres for crafting materials too 😊
... Likewise, I donated my son's baby toys to the church baby group once he'd outgrown them.
Thank you for the refresh, dear Dawn! 🥰
I like to watch Dawn's videos to inspire and RELAX. She really calms me.
I just came across your channel and this is exactly what I was looking for. Some inspiration and gentle approach with someone to guide me through decluttering. Love your personality and your videos are fun and easy to watch.. theyre super relatable. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Dawn. I've put this on twice for cleaning motivation, and it worked like a charm!
So happy to know I'm not the only one with a kid that collected spoons under their bed! Lol😂😂😂
Yes! This is what I've been transitioning to
Any particular brands you would recommend for good quality clothes?
Hi Dawn,
I always just deep freeze the butter.
I prefer cold weather but the minimalist in me really appreciates the less required for warm weather!
Always the best motivation! Listening while I'm cleaning under and behing the stove! Haha Major spring decluttering and cleaning going on over here!
Love function over anything especially with a growing family . My bathroom counters are clear except for soap . We even went so far as when the time came to replace faucets we did away with the two handled faucets in the baths and eventually even the kitchen to single handled faucets ! So much easier and quicker to clean .
I love a single handle faucet - would never go back to the two handled ones!
The struggle with living in the north for a larger family! All the different kinds of clothing and shoes that are needed can be overwhelming!
We live in Colorado so it's summer gear, winter gear, sun gear, snow gear, etc... I feel ya
Even if I am not decluttering but working on something else, I enjoy listening to your videos. It helps me get my work done. I hope you share more hour long+ videos.
I store the toothpaste tubes without the boxes. We go through it quickly enough and it takes up way less space that way.
Us too
This was my most FAVORITE video! I’m sure this was a lot to create Dawn but thank you so much for being so thorough and detailed. love love love 🩷🫶🏼
Dawn- create a food compostable for your leftovers! Great for the garden 🎉❤
What helps me in the fridge is, the moment I make a shopping list I look at my fridge and storage space...so I don't buy stuff that I still have :) works really well
I do the same. Simple habit that ends food waste. It takes a little time and effort but very worth it :)
Watching you clean your fridge was so validating. Thank you for being real.
Love the long declutter videos! It was funny when you went under the bed 😂 My kids love those tiny squishy animals too.
This was great! You are so good at mastering your inventory.
My favorite part of the video today is you crawling under the boys beds. You are very brave!
I love that you share the expired / bad food....makes it all relateable
