Loved the video! Great tips! If I may chime in, we should also consider how your videos are rendered by UA-cam. Gradients will suffer from heavy banding, so be mindful of lighting an empty backdrop or wall. And darker areas are compressed more heavily than brighter ones. So if you're going to go dark, don't use gradients, and fill your background with stuff to break up the effects of the UA-cam compression. Basically, the worst thing you can do for UA-cam is shoot in front of a big dark purple wall with a gradient. 🤓🤣🤦♂️
Thanks so much! Yesss that’s a great tip! You can totally see banding in that shot of Chris and I against the white background with the plants! Stuff with texture and layers definitely help!
Do any of us really deserve Gerald? I feel as though he just pops up on my feed with a video "Everything You Could Want to Know About (Insert Topic Here)" and I'm all like "Thanks, Gerald!" Now he's helping me on OTHER people's videos! Is there no end to his knowledge...?
Nice to stumble on this video. Technically excellent and very appealing to watch. But mostly impressed with how naturally at ease you are on camera and how likeable. Wish you much success.
This was one of the most pleasing looking videos I've ever seen. I wasn't even looking for this, it just popped up and I watched the whole thing because I was so mesmerised! I love how moody and dark your set-up is and yet there's a perfect amount of light to see you. And also your awesome hair just absolutely blends in perfectly with the whole look 👏
We just moved to Japan and I've been trying to figure out the "space" here and this was extremely helpful esp. cause your my go to in the design space.
OMG I have just stubble across this video and got so many helpful tips about shooting videos in a home space. I've been procrastinating like crazy with starting my UA-cam channel and used the excuse of nowhere to shoot. Not anymore! Thanks Si
Of course! Been thinking it in the background for the last few videos and just wanted to share 😊 Maybe its the long hair? Always thought your hair was epic 😊 also I'm hoping to build out multiple shooting set ups in a single functional office so this was so helpful!
Chris: Hey, I found another room in our house, we also have a garage Becki: Let's turn into a studio! Chris: Another studio? Becki: *already in Home Depot*
Perfect timing As the days are getting shorter I am realizing I can’t rely on window light as much during the winter and I’ll have to make a make shift setup! Thanks for the video! -Sarah
You just nail it, I think the video is great because you don't propose a setup (as there are millions on UA-cam) with a Sony A7SIII, an f1.2 lens, an Aperture lighting with a large softbox and with a room with a lot of space ahead for equipment and space behind so that everything is out of focus .... I love this new type of video that you are making, in which everything is affordable and "reachable" for anyone who is starting.... And also all the videos recommended at the “cards” are perfect to keep watching 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great to see what can be achieved in a small space with minimal props. I’m excited to see what I can create this weekend to record some more videos for my channel, thanks
Your channel is soul food for me! Lol it is a plus, the asthetics & quality of your videos on a 82 inch 4k tv! Lbs! All the colors you guys represent is exactly what Im into as well so THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!
I've been meaning to upgrade the quality of my content and holy heck - your videos are so immensely informative. You break it down so that even complete beginners can understand. This video alone taught me so many useful tips I want to shout lol THANK YOU!!
This video is gold, thank you so much for all the tips, I am starting my second UA-cam channel and I just moved to a one bedroom apartment with my girlfriend and all I have to work with is a corner in our bedroom. I am excited for the challenge and this video got me even more excited
You guys live in my hometown area (we are actually from Orchard Park where you guys did the Eternal Flame video😁! And, the first song of this video is from my boyfriend (Gregory David) A Buffalo native as well.. I also just posted on your Facebook forum about my first photographery job and, asked a question and, people really helped ! My point is thank you Becki and, Chris I've been watching y'all for about two years.. Becki you have deffinitly inspired me to continue learning and, perfecting my craft. Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Thank you. I came looking for tips in setting up impromptu backdrops (so small budget/small space fits into the mold) and the basic technical stuff and the examples were very helpful, thank you! Thanks also for showing your past setups for folks like me who haven't been following.
I was struggling for like a 6 months of how to set up a formal or at least functional to record space. As usual, you have open my mind to knowledge. I'm starting rigth know. Thanks for always sharing! I love guys, keep rocking! Saludos y abrazos desde México!! 🖤🖤👌🏾
Thanks for all this useful content! Decided to start a youtube channel this year because of creatives like you guys! Definitely utilizing this info for creating youtube talking head videos moving forward! Appreciate it! 🙏🏽
Love it. Thanks for the great tips! Moving from a shooting space that had built in elements that gave depth, texture and tone (and tons of natural light, too) into a spare bedroom temporarily as I build out the new space (which is a 7x18 closet) I've been struggling to really nail my background and get the elements the previous space just 'had'. This also gives me a ton to consider when designing the new space from scratch. :)
Is it ok that I now look at every corner of our apartment as a UA-cam set?! 24 vids in... I’ve caught the creator bug! Ha. Great vid, thanks B&C. Hi from lockdown London. 😊
I love that you shopped your house for this and it looks so good. I can think of places and things in my house that I could apply these tips to and i haven't even finished furnishing my house let alone decorating. I'm sure that's what you were going for but: mission accomplished!! Thanks Becki!!
Honestly I was getting frustrated bc I couldn't find anything "good" on this subject since I started my channel about a month ago. I am almost at 4000 hours so wanted to up my game and FINALLY WHEN I searched your video came up. THANK YOU. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS "NEW SUBSCRIBERS"
here we go! yes! this is so serendipitous: i’m lucky enough to have an office space but have no idea what i’m doing when it comes to making it look nice on camera (i have footage today of me paying things around and around and getting nowhere).
1. Becky - you are gorgeous! Lovely! 2. This is EXACTLY what I needed! I'm just getting back into videos after a 2 year hiatus. I have moved homes so my current space is a corner in my office room. (I'm sharing w my husband). I love the suggestion of set and brand matching.. makes so much sense! Thank you for this gem!!
So glad I came across this video. I have a separate channel for livestreaming and have been thinking of ways to really make my background more aesthetically pleasing and warm. Thanks Becki!
This is such a perfect Video! Love the tips and the honesty in this piece. Nuggets of Wisdom dropped for sure. Thank you for being so transparent & real in your content. Taking a lot from this video going forward on my content. Salute for creating this and keeping us in line.
Becki, you're awesome! I was just re-watching the "home studio" video yesterday & have been trying to think of something for my very small bedroom; thanks for this!
Super appreciated this one, I'm literally working on a video of "revamping and organizing" some of my desk/ studio space and now I can see if any of these tips can be implemented before I finish!
As a fan of black/dark backgrounds, the main A-Roll... OMG!! 😍😍😍😍 YES all day! Looks so good. ARGGG. I want to shot like that! Awesome video Becki! (As per usual. That a theme of this channel)
I've been wanting to watch this video since it came out, finally did, and loved it!!! We have a small office a short walk away from our apartment and have shot most of our UA-cam videos there. We were just chatting about perhaps moving one of our desks to the opposite wall (they're currently side by side) so that we can open the space up for either a UA-cam backdrop or small photoshoot space. This video gave me lots to think about and I'm looking forward to checking out the video you mentioned as well about finding your design style for UA-cam. Currently, there is *way* too much going on in the background of our videos, simply because it's our workspace. I loved how quickly you put together your tiny sample backdrop using the different types of wood and how you framed with some plants and the long tube bulb. It's great to know the F-stop you use, too. :) Thanks, Becki!
Really great tips! Thank you for helping us all to overcome this challenge. I think many of us are all in a very similar place here, starting in a small space, but wanting a great looking space to represent our brand! I’m excited to implement some of these tips!
Loved the video! Great tips!

Ohhhh. Now I know why things look the way they are whenever I upload. Interesting 😦
I was going to say...lol!
I've noticed this annoying gradient effect. Anyone have tips on fixing?
I appreciate that this is the design of the space and not “what (typically expensive) equipment you need for a full blown studio”.
I agree! I'm learning so much from her expertise
Saw another beautiful idea for diy setup which we can try. Watch n thank me later

DID I JUST GET A NOD FROM THE QUEEN OF DESIGN/DREAMY AESTHETICS/HOME DECOR?! Get out of here. I have learned everything I know (& do) from you!
Iz .. just love the broll shot of ur studio, hi, this is Rivu frm India 🙂
Oh thank you miss, you are too kind!!! 😘 but like seriously, you know how to use color SO FREAKING GOOD 😍😍
I could literally listen to you talk about probably anyting your energy that you bring through your video intoxicatingly mesmerizing
Nice to stumble on this video. Technically excellent and very appealing to watch. But mostly impressed with how naturally at ease you are on camera and how likeable. Wish you much success.
Where’ve you been for the last two years man, UA-cam algorithm was doing me a total disservice because this channel is all I’ve ever needed. Finally!
I don't think I've ever hit the subscribe button so fast before in my life.
you guys seem like the type of people id just like to hang out with. Thanks for all the videos Becky.
This was one of the most pleasing looking videos I've ever seen. I wasn't even looking for this, it just popped up and I watched the whole thing because I was so mesmerised! I absolutely love your voice for explaining things. Such perfect tempo and soft enough to digest information. :) Thank you!
Soooo helpful I am using my bedroom for my UA-cam studio at the moment
We just moved to Japan and I've been trying to figure out the "space" here and this was extremely helpful esp. cause your my go to in the design space.
OMG I have just stubble across this video and got so many helpful tips about shooting videos in a home space.
I've been procrastinating like crazy with starting my UA-cam channel and used the excuse of nowhere to shoot. Not anymore!
Thanks Si
Bonus tip: have blue hair to separate you from the background 👍🏻
Haha this was interesting!!
I'm still watching the intro ads but can we take a moment to appreciate how fantastic Becki looks? Now on to soak up all the styling tips.
Oh jeez thanks so much!
Of course! Been thinking it in the background for the last few videos and just wanted to share 😊 Maybe its the long hair? Always thought your hair was epic 😊 also I'm hoping to build out multiple shooting set ups in a single functional office so this was so helpful!
I felt like the light in the background looked really small, and that made the background look further away. That looks great!
OoOoo good call I might try that
Literally my favorite part of the weekend are your videos!
😭 thanks so much!
I'm always drawn to a flat background too.. very Wes Anderson especially with layers and depth.
Chris: Hey, I found another room in our house, we also have a garage
Becki: Let's turn into a studio!
Chris: Another studio?
Becki: *already in Home Depot*
🤣🤣🤣
This has my laughing so hard
Ha! I could totally see this happening, lol.
@@JasonLorette definitely have talked about mounting video lights on the ceiling in the garage 👀🤣
@@BeckiandChris - ha ha...doesn’t surprise me at all. 🤣
I didn't even hear the tips, but just by the quality of the lighting, her voice, and the hair, I knew it was gonna be great! Subscribing rn 💜
Wow! That lighting is impeccable..
Perfect timing As the days are getting shorter I am realizing I can’t rely on window light as much during the winter and I’ll have to make a make shift setup! Thanks for the video! -Sarah
Mind = blown on the timing of this. I was watching your youtube studio videos yesterday trying to figure out how to setup my small room for filming
This video is suuuuuuper helpful. Thanks, I never even thought about focusing on skin tones to help pick colors. Thank you!
I loved this video! So helpful! First UA-cam video I’ve watched in a long time that I actually enjoyed! Thank you⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
love your idea of furniture and setting marching up with your brand.
Thank you, UA-cam, for finally recommending a video/new channel to me that actually makes sense and is really useful!
You just gave me so much hope and ignited so much passion in me.
Great to see what can be achieved in a small space with minimal props. I’m excited to see what I can create this weekend to record some more videos for my channel, thanks
I stumbled upon this video while eating some chipotle. This was well done, I appreciate your production value and the way you explained this setup.
Your channel is soul food for me! Lol it is a plus, the asthetics & quality of your videos on a 82 inch 4k tv! Lbs! All the colors you guys represent is exactly what Im into as well so THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!
... thank you so much for creating the video I didn't know I needed or wanted until I saw it by accident... you're amazing.
Hey guys! I was literally searching for a filming background tutorial and organically came across yours! Awesome! Xox (fellow Newfie here).
Not a clue on how I missed this one! Full of great tips and tricks!!!
You literally made a piece of wood look good 😂 such a great video, damn woman, you did it again!
thanks Lila!
How have I not heard about this channel?? I love this girl! SUBSCRIBED!

Thanks for the tips! I’m trying to kickstart my UA-cam channel and these came in handy!
I like the color grading of your studio lighting
Thank you for this video. 🙏
Not only great tips, but showing the space you shot from different angles really was helpful!
Thank you. I came looking for tips in setting up impromptu backdrops (so small budget/small space fits into the mold) and the basic technical stuff and the examples were very helpful, thank you! Thanks also for showing your past setups for folks like me who haven't been following.
Thanks for this!! This tremendously helps out a lot for someone like me who have a very small place.
Love the plywood, sitting on the floor, and using natural light. It doesn't have to be complicated! Boom 👊
I was struggling for like a 6 months of how to set up a formal or at least functional to record space. As usual, you have open my mind to knowledge. I'm starting rigth know. Thanks for always sharing! I love guys, keep rocking! Saludos y abrazos desde México!! 🖤🖤👌🏾
Super helpful, as always, Becki! Thanks for always coming through for us.
Got you!!!
I’m in full research mode to research back lightings for my videos. Still working out how to use small office space so thanks for sharing 👍🏼🙏
Thanks for the tips! Halfway through the vid I was already sorting through seldom used items to create a better backdrop. 😁
Great tips. One of the best detailed videos I have seen.
