Actually Whitney Houston sang it too and it is the best of all versions out there… usually cavers are never as good as the original, but I don’t know how Whitney just managed to do it, but whatever she covered - and she covered such a lot - she did best. I'm falling in love with her character and her voice
The stunning thing here is that "A Natural Woman" was a song written for hire. Jerry Wexler, Aretha's producer, needed a song for Aretha's upcoming album. Wexler was looking at the concept of a "natural man" so he asked Carole and her husband, Gerry Goffin, to write a song about a "natural woman". This is what they came up with the next day.
Now, you can talk talent and you can talk genius but nobody else could do this: Write a completely legendary song on short notice from a fragment of a concept.
