Japanese armour is thought to have evolved from the armour used in ancient China and Korea. Cuirasses and helmets were manufactured in Japan as early as the 4th century.
Japanese armour was generally constructed from many small iron (tetsu) and/or leather (nerigawa) scales (kozane) and/or plates (ita-mono), connected to each other by rivets and macramé cords (odoshi) made from leather and/or braided silk, and/or chain armour (kusari). Noble families had silk cords made in specific patterns and colors of silk thread.
The armour was usually brightly lacquered to protect against the harsh Japanese climate

My son single handedly stopped WW1 by destroying all tanks and planes in one single slash using a Muramasa Katana he took from the Japanese after WW2. Also the explosion of the "Tzar Bomba" was actually his grandfather performing a forbidden Iai move.

I must say, 14th century samurai armour is possibly my favorite set of armour from Japan, mostly because of how it looks.
The details on it make it look so beautiful and possibly elegant.

very colourfull because mostly raw silk, the downside is that they use less metal than 16th century. Of in the 14th century you are more likely to be killed by arrow while in the 16th centrury you are more likely to be killed by spear.
personally i like ways more the ones from the sengoku, since those included metallic pieces, these ones are very good looking but i don't trust entirely their protection...

Soooo happy you got this Metatron. To me, this is the most interesting Samurai Armour because it was in the prime of Japanese warfare and before firearms had become wide spread. I hope you make some very good content with this, it looks amazing, and I hope it performs well. LETS GO! Also, it would be nice to see the high quality boots with bear fur. Hope you can get a pair of those too!
What are the Stats? And also the stats of your char?
GermanCurl the stats are +50 armor and +20 cringe.
I'm not sure that his armor can deflect a 125 mm round.

Looks great on you. Always thought it was interesting that such works which are so intricately detailed were put to such brutal use. I could easily imagine a samurai having gotten through a battle and being really upset that some blood had stained some lighter colored section of his armour.

very nice looking. they really do a fine job. i looked at the site, and decided a set with the exposed rivets looks more my style, in brown of course, with black rivets. i don't know if those wide flat pauldrons are something i'd be happy with, but they do look very nice. well done sir.

Really cool. One thing I'd like to see is you getting hit in it. Not like beaten to a pulp, but some light strikes with a bokken or something to see how the armour receives hits and how it might block or deflect them.

I was wondering about something. I've begun to take an interest in the history of the Samurai, and was wondering if you could tell me about the purpose of Shobu tips and Kissaki tips on Katanas? I'm not sure if Shobu were a historical invention.
I find some designs have what is called a Shobu which is where the blade tip has no distinct Yokote which leads to the Kissaki. Instead, it gradually reduces to a point with consistent tapering.
An example is a Musha Shobu 1060 from Dynasty Forge.

It's quite hard to find Hira Zukuri on antique Japanese swords. It is quite frequently found on Wakizashis and Tantos, however.
Most Japanese swordsmiths from the beginning seemed to have preferred the Shinogi-Zukuri blade design, as it reinforced the overall structure of the blade/tip with whatever precious iron resources they could find. But even as they gained adequate metal resources through trade and Japanese metallurgy advanced, they continued to stick with the Shinogi-Zukuri design - because they worked.
With that being said, different blade styles other than Shinogi Zukuri were most likely more popular in the earlier periods. Here's a unique example that is quite popular in Nihonto circles - the Unokubi Zukuri. These originated from the practice of mounting or modifying Naginata blades onto swords.

you are often my first choice when I want to know somethign about historic armors, weaponry or italian language and culture and you never disappointed me.
Could you please make one ore two videos about the byzantine infantry and their armor and tactics, how Italy looked like in during the early middle ages in terms of people (knowledge/education, roman heritage....) or about the indian and chinese military in the middle ages? I find chinese armo especially interesting, since its seems to be (for me at least) familliar to Samurai armor.
