I just watched this to see how to put the pants on. I’m a woman and wear kimono and yukata regularly, but when working I wanted a pair of Hakama pants. But I also wanted them tied at the bottom so I can wear tabi boots with them. So I just ordered a pair of cotton Hakama from them much like yours.
Ps: yes I know it’s not traditionally worn with yukata, or by women for that matter, but I’m working on a farm and wanted some pants and I don’t care for the monpe pants look. 😅 very cool and informative video. The armor is AWESOME. I was just joking to my husband I need to get some now too so I can protect myself while fighting off our goats. 😂❤

Thank you. Traditions are great, but sometimes makes way for practicality. I've worn relatively modern tabi shoes (with rubber soles) and modern undergarments more than once with my armor. I appreciate the compliments on the armor and video. Tell your husband I support you getting some armor to protect from the goats. You could even order suneate (shin guards) and / or haidate (thigh guards) without the upper body encumbrance of a full suit. Perfect for avoiding shin kicks from the goats!

Thanks for posting this. Are the ties for the do under the right arm hooped or open?

On mine, the front is a pair of laces, the back is a closed loop. One lace from the front pair goes through the loop, pulls back to the front, then ties off to the other lace at the front. I've seen some where both are loops; you could tie them like a normal lace, or cut one evenly to make a pair of laces and tie it off like mine does. If cutting it, secure the cut ends by a few drops of glue, folding it back and sewing, or whatever method you want to use to keep it from fraying.

Hmmm…rethink the Hitatare… Either you are putting it on completely wrong, or the Mountainguys made it completely wrong, like they did mine. Either way it’s crap like this you’re doing here. Oh…and the sausagebelt, the padded Obi, is not worn with the armor. It’s for display only, and for Shinto ceremony.

What specifically do you think is wrong with the hitatare / way it is worn? For the padded belt, it is possible the document is showing it as put on over the hakama and before the juban. It makes a difference in the comfort of the armor.

@@SamuraiJames Hey James-san, the Hitatare is not to be worn like a Kimono. It’s…well…it’s worn like a Hitatare. But the Chinese at Ironmountain sewed it wrong. They closed the front panels on the sides. That’s why it makes you look like a stuffed sausage. Get a Taylor to open it up on the sides, and get some pictures to look how a Hitatare should be then. If I had your mail I would have sent pictures. Mr. Iron Mountain should have tell you that, but that’s his understanding of customer care. He has no. Same like my Hitatare.

@@SamuraiJames oh, and the belt: Forget about that padded thing. I’m a samurai reenactor since 30 years, and never met anyone who wore that thing. In Japan they wear it for certain parades on Shinto festivals. And on the armor when on display. With armor you want to wear a sarashi. I recommend using a five meter long Indian turban fabric, usually white, but looks better off-white. Wear it several times around your hips, including the short sword or Tanto. Again, it would be easier by mail…
