I recently fitted one of these in a friends 500`s (was only £90 on ebay,) it all went together easily (I hadn't seen this before hand, but I`ve installed enough stereo`s to know what goes where). 1. I also fitted a powered sub in it (& upgraded all the door & quarter speakers), so the phono outs & "aerial" out were needed. 2. I left the vertical directional vanes in the centre vent, & hot-glued small rounded off rods to the middle of each of them, enabling the airflow to be directed at the driver/passenger better, & I also glued deflectors to the duct part (made of a black plastic microwave meal packet!) behind the screen, to direct all the air through the vents, & not put too much heat into the screen when the heaters on hot which would affect its longevity. 3. I cut a small rectangle into the top corner of the parcel shelf cubby box thing & pushed the wired USB into it, the wire was perfectly long enough by doing that, & as a bonus, there's no untidy dangling wires to get damaged later down the line. Its come out well enough, & sounds great with the new speakers, its just a shame they didn't design the vents better, both functionally, & visually (it does look cheap & nasty compared to the rest of the dash).

Good video - I installed this exact unit to my daughters Fiat 500 last Christmas. Things I found were; 1) Make sure that the lower painted part of the dashboard is protected using a cloth or something - It's very easy to scratch that when you are pulling the unit in and out. 2) Watch the edges of that cage - they are sharp. Make absolutely sure the wiring doesn't get trapped (or your fingers). 3) The hands free microphone for the phone is plugged into a flying lead that is connected to the unit. Make sure this is fully home and if necessary, wrap with insulating tape to stop it coming apart. Mine did after installation, and I had to get it all out again to see why the phone audio wasn't working. 4) I stuck the GPS antenna to the underside of the dash top, where it seems to work OK with the navigation system. My only criticisms are that there is no instructional manual that comes with the unit - you have to figure out how it works by trial and error. Also, after 12 months installed in the vehicle, the original light cream coloured plastic has now completely faded to light grey. Otherwise it works fine, and is a vast improvement over the original radio. Mine works with the steering controls, and tells you when either door is open - wrong way around though, as the firmware assumes left hand drive I guess! I didn't realise about the vents either - good spot - I will have a look at that. I just assumed (like everyone else) that the whole vent assembly has to be removed.
You’re right about those cages. Sherpa little buggers. I’ve also installed the gps on top of the stereo and works fine. It’s weird with that door open thing that it shows you the opposite door to is actually open.
Hi, I haven’t out the original vents back, which I didn’t realise you could until I stumbled on this brilliant video and I’ve not connected the microphone either. Can you let me know how I can easily remove the unit (which I have now clicked into place) without damaging it please? Thank you.
Thank you for the detail on the vents, haven't seen it explained elsewhere. I think this has pushed me over the edge away from the Xtrons units, towards the 9 inch screen ones instead.
Grate instruction, most useful. I will install today almost similar 7” on my imported 500E. I will try to connect car gps antenna and connect with build in car amplifier ( USA version) its. Cross fingers for me 😂😅 best regards from Poland
I have a question, how did you arrange for the multimedia to sit with the air conditioner, because I installed a 7 inch multimedia in my Fiat 500 2014 and since then I can't move the air conditioner
It depends on which one you have. The one with the little 500 logo is a hinge that allows you access to the main vent which will allow you to open and close the vents but none of them allow side to side or up and down adjustment. It’s just the trade off to get a modern stereo.
I currently have a 2015 500 cult. B&M module completely dead (removed, sent for repair, irreparable unit). Finding a similar one or same part number almost impossible. Also tried 3 other B&M modules from a 500 (2013, 2014) and diagnostic returns "not compatible". So, question is...If i fit an aftermarket stereo like the one above, Would i still need a functioning B&M module? Or would the canbus and stereo itsself prevent the flashing mileage? any idea?
Another module should work, you don’t need to match numbers so it’s strange you’re getting an error. An aftermarket stereo will still have flashing mileage until you do a proxy alignment. If you do a proxy alignment with the blue and me unplugged then it should stop flashing now. I don’t think it’ll flash again when you install an aftermarket one. If it does, then you just need to do it again.
Hello, again. Do you have a tutorial about how to connect this same radio with a FIAT 500 that does have the volume control keys on the steering wheel? I have three connector cable bundles in my car behind the old radio. I'm not sure if the third is for an amp, or perhaps the steering wheel controls. Could really use your help. I'm on day three of trying to install.
Great video, I have the same unit as this and you mentioned in the video about no sound, I have this same issue of no sound and also what app did you have to use for the apple car play connect, I have bought this unit second hand with no instructions. Any help would be great.
If you have a car without steering wheel controls, you can't just add a steering wheel with controls as you have a loom connected which is also programmed into the BCM, so it's not as easy as that I'm afraid.
Great video. I’ve installed something similar but both USB cables don’t seem to work as they do not charge my phone whilst it’s plugged in, nor does it trigger any changes in the head unit. Any ideas why and how I can fix? I can still plug into the B&M USB port to charge but B&M kicks in and disconnects phone from head unit. Not a great option.
Hi i have tried to fit one and now i am not getting any power to the unit. I have tried putting the old radio back in and there is still no power, do you have any advice you can offer me?
@@matthewbrown1474 the problem you had with the new one is probably the plug not matching the lives. With some of these you have to run a couple of lives and an earth. If you’ve put the old one back in and that doesn’t work you’ve probably blown a fuse.
Hello, great video and very informative. I just fitted an almost identical unit to my daughters 2008 Fiat 500. But NO APPLE CARPLAY. Can you tell me what the App was called on the unit that you used to get it going?, as I have banged my head against a digital brick wall for the last few days trying to get CarPlay to work on it. Cheers
Hi , I have same stereo and can not get apple carplay to connect via USB android auto works fine though but apple car play just says try different USB port but there is only one USB port ? How did you connect yours please ?
There was an app that you had to do an initial connect through. This was a car I sold so haven’t had any input since I installed it. I’ll see if I can figure it out from other videos.
Thank you for a great video! I have bought a unit like this for my previous car but quickly found out that it was draining my battery as the unit was actually "sleeping" when turned off. Unfortunately, there was no setting to make it completely turn off when the car was switched off. Have you had any issues with battery drain since installing this unit?
On the contrary. Last one I fitted it would always power down when I wanted it to sleep but in the settings on most there is a setting for how many days you want it to stay active. Sometimes these settings are somewhat buried in the settings.
I have a 2013 Fiat 500 and have the same issue with the antenna adaptor being too large. Please can you add a link to the cable you bought ? Thank you. Great video.
It's a very, very tight fit, but it does fit. Initially I took the cage out but it was not secure. Make sure your cage is completely square but it will go. Make sure everything is working as I don't think you'll ever get it out again.
Hi, I am looking to purchase a fiat 500 2012 but I already have a pioneer sph - da130dab and I'm looking for the 'fiat adapter' as such. Do you know anywhere where they sell these?
Great video! I am having trouble getting my backup camera RCA cable run through my 500e. I've got it through the hatch and into the car, but from there I'm getting stuck. I want to avoid running it alongside the curtain airbags, but getting a good route down to use the door frame is giving me trouble. Any guidance would be appreciated!
I usually run them behind the back side carpet, tucked into the bottom of the side panel and then under the kick panel on the door. You can tuck most of them without even removing anything.
Thanks so much. That's what I'm trying to do, I just am having trouble getting them from where they enter the car through the hatch looming down to the bottom of the car without disrupting the curtain airbags--there is a serious lack of good holes/paths to my untrained eye! The RCA plug diameter makes it tough to feed it through anywhere. @@Love500
Actually, I temporarily removed the rear curtain airbag bracket and ran it behind it vs. in front of it, so I think that will work. Do you usually wire the power for the camera into the brake light or can bus? Favorite earthing spot? Cheers!
thanks! what was the elbow shaped low-profile antenna plug you used to make the stereo fit in the harness? I'm having the same problem and can't seem to find that part online. @@Love500
I was just wondering whether I could fit this in my Fiat 500 Lounge and whether I’d have to remove the blue and me altogether (mine doesn’t actually work😂)?
You don’t have to remove it. I’ve just had a project where I did but just because I wanted to keep it as a spare. The touchscreen stereo was already in the car but they left the Blue and me in it. Only danger is if it starts to cause a parasitic drain at some point.
Hi, I have the same video for the steering controls. Also 2 wires (key 1 and 2). Not sure if I missed it, but how do you get the steering buttons to work?
@@andreventer2703 yes, I believe they do need connecting. It’s a while since I’ve done one of these and can’t remember. If you hit it on AliExpress have a look on the listing, they normally have diagrams for the wiring.
Hi mate. I fitted this to daughters car and had local fiat garage do a proxy alignment without success. I continue to have flashing mileage. Any other tips for getting this figured out please
You have to make sure all errors in any ECU are cleared first then do the proxy alignment. If you don’t then although it appears to complete the mileage still flashes. I noticed this recently after trying 5 times.
@@garywales6944 speaker must be wired incorrectly but the mileage will always flash. Some canbus boxes will allow you to select the correct vehicle in the settings but in most cases a proxy alignment is required.

Assume you have AM transmissions where you are? To be honest I don’t think I have ever listened to AM. Is your FM signal strong? Maybe you’re aerial needs replacing. You could still pick up broken reception of FM without an aerial but AM would be non existent. If you really want to listen to AM it may be worth trying a new aerial base.
I installed the 10inch version of this in my daughters car. Since the the heater control console has stopped working. I ran the USB cables down the opposite side to you using a flexible cable rod. Hi, thanks for the really quick response I appreciate it! So maybe I’m being a bit harsh with the “lagging”. I suppose it’s ok after a few minutes of being turned on. No I couldn’t install with cage because of the same aerial issue you encountered, and I think with all the other cables I would struggle to get it in anyway. Hi mate. Thank you for posting your posts they are invaluable. I am in Australia and purchased one of these units 7 inch screen - all working but the buttons on the steering wheel are not operating. I have the car at a professional installer but he believes he does not have enough information on the unit to fix the problem with inactive steering wheel controls!!!!! Is there anything that you can advise me with to advise the installer ? I hope you can help me out and really appreciated. Thank you Darren
Unfortunately I haven’t fitted one with steering controls but they normally include the canbus module for them. So I’ve seen elsewhere there are two canbus modules and the suppliers/manufacturers are actually really helpful when it comes to help. Others have contacted them via the AliExpress site.
Hi Darren im in Australia and purchased same unit and had same problem, you need to adjust setting for canbus as mine was set to wrong car and wrong canbus. when i changed settings, the steering wheel controls started to work, i also connecdted Dashcam and DAB radio, all working great.

Would it be necessary, or a good idea, to unplug the battery before doing this? Or should it be absolutely fine without? Thank you, extremely helpful. Edit: Nevermind, I just heard you suggest to do it.
Hi, this is such an information video, unfortunately I fitted my daughter’s unit yesterday prior to see it. I realise that I haven’t put the vents back and I haven’t connected the microphone, so my daughter can hear the caller but the caller can’t hear her. Do you happen to know how I can remove the unit that is now clicked into place please? Thank you.
It should have the same holes that the original stereo had so you can use the tool to depress the clips and pull it out. If it’s like mine it was a very tight fit so if you have trouble pulling it out I would take the coloured dash panel off. Allows you to get something behind to lever it.
@Love500 I'm really struggling to pinpoint this one. Disconnected the blue and me replaced the airbag module and fitted a new battery. The headunit doesn't switch off when the ignition is turned off and key out so have to turn it off from the headunit itself?

This unit seems like a terrible idea. The air should be directed around the rear of the screen oppose to just hitting it head on. Having a screen go through severe temperature changes again and again seems like it would inevitably cause damage to the screen.
I don’t think you can call heat or cold air from a car heater severe. The interior of a car is subject to more extremes from hot weather and it copes fine with that.
@@Love500 The screen is already going to be quite warm/hot during operation. So I'm struggling to understand how hot air being blasted at it would not cause parts within the screen to wear or fail prematurely. In the manual, does it even state what operating temperature threshold it can cope with....? This isn't my field of expertise, but, if I was designing this, I would have made air vent attachments which curve around the screen to the designated ventilation section of the head unit. This would also mean that the air would be circulating efficiently, oppose to slamming into the back of the screen.
Honestly I would just stick a Bluetooth adapter into the stock stereo system and use my phone, the new stereo shown here is not much bigger than a phone besides it also hinders the way we can channel air from the AC vents. So no thanks!

Thank you.
That is so cool. I was just on Google looking for a tuner that would fit perfectly in the space of my stock radio/CD, and I found this. So awesome.
Thank you for the detail on the vents, haven't seen it explained elsewhere. I think this has pushed me over the edge away from the Xtrons units, towards the 9 inch screen ones instead.
Thanks for this video. It seemed too daunting before I watched you do this. Your videos have helped me on several issues I’ve had on my 2012 Sport.

Every time I watch your clips, I love the opening.
Grate instruction, most useful. I will install today almost similar 7” on my imported 500E. I will try to connect car gps antenna and connect with build in car amplifier ( USA version) its. Cross fingers for me 😂😅 best regards from Poland
Did everything work out well?
The little door is for access to the vent wheels. I have the same head unit!
I've been looking forward to this one! Nice install mate. Looks well good.
FYI... You don't have to remove the vent cover to install this radio. I left my vents in, and the radio fits perfectly.
Yes you’re absolutely right although it does make it easier.

I have three connector cable bundles in my car behind the old radio. I'm not sure if the third is for an amp, or perhaps the steering wheel controls. Could really use your help. I'm on day three of trying to install.
I’ve only installed with a connects2 for controls. Not yet done one using the supplied canbus module.

Was it you on Facebook group? Wire that is marked as aerial needs to connect to amp power. I think the app is called Xlink or something like that.

I know. I do mention the in the video. They were removed to separate the front bits.
Always good Paul 👍 Though I'll stick with my CDs, too many wires for me 😂 Only thing I miss is DAB but I can live without it 🍻

Have you tried another phone? Try plugging in a usb stick see if that does anything.
Thanks. User error! I flipped the USB connector points at the back of the stereo, they were facing the wrong way! 😅

Your choice but it’s much bigger and better than a phone with all the bells and whistles
not sure why you selected a fiat 500 that has NO steering wheel controls. Would have been better to select a year with steering controls to see if the canbus works with steering controls and display of radio information and song information that pops up near odometer. Your intro is great... but there are mulltiple parts of video where you do not aim camera properly and can not see what you are talking about (around the 21min mark). Did you see and edit your video before posting ? Also recommend if you learn something or are waiting for other parts... then reshoot your video after you know what you are doing.
Oh I’m so sorry James Cameron. That happened to be the car I had at the time, I didn’t choose it.
Must be nice I plugged my In and it’s completely dead
Your wiring must be mixed up. Test the power wires.
I have the same issue did you find out how to sort it out?
@@joshuaholland6076 yeah the yellow wires that come off the new harness only one works, also check to make sure you didn’t blow the 10amp fuse on the car
@@kyledavy1 i just installed mine, completely dead. Fuse on the unit itself is good and the old radio works with the old harness so not a power problem. so it has to be the unit or the harness, any troubleshooting tips?
Cheers
Does the radio work now? These cheap Chinese Android Radios are not really recommended for use by anyone. The quality control is pretty bad. They haven't been accepted into the aftermarket audio scene because of this. People usually end up replacing these with units from Alpine and Pioneer etc.
Works absolutely fine as far as I know. Lots of people have them. The Facebook forums would be full of earnings from owners if they failed.
The video misses the most critical point, which literary everyone has issues with: how to get the sound. Even you do not get sound (see video at 16:15), but you do not explain what you did for it to work. I am sorry; thumbs down! :(
I didn’t miss anything out. If you had watched the whole video you would have seen that the reason at that point I didn’t have sound is because side there was no aerial. The main reason for no sound is when people have external a,ps as you have to run the a,p to the electric aerial feed to give it power.
hmm. there are better units
I’m sure there are.
