I own two Flashpoint AD 600 Pro units. Now they have released the Flash Point AD 600 SE (Special Edition) $549. Just released. Trying to learn what is the difference between the AD 600 Pro and the new AD 600 SE. ?
I’ve had one of those plastic handles break. When the cheaper plastic starts to wear out it cannot be tightened enough and the strobe head starts to sink. So Amazon to the rescue here is what I used. MroMax 2Pcs M8 Clamping Lever Handle Aluminum Alloy Male Thread Adjustable Handle Lathe Machine Knob for Machinery.
The pro version seems slightly better than the old one but it is on big issue. It's not about the weight of the unit, but it's about the reliability of the battery. I have 2 old TTL versions that never heard any battery charge issue. And I have a AD400 pro (stored with battery disconnected from the unit) which is able to lose charge even if it's not in use.
I recently got the 600 pro and its been sitting in my camera bag for a month now. Reason why is because I'm building my kit for portrait work. Takes awhile to save up the cash these days haha. I work a full time job but you know, a lot of the cash goes towards rent and food etc. I did however purchase the Manny Ortiz Switch beauty dish 36" modifier two days ago. Think this would be a combo? I try to get good gear always even if it takes longer to save. Why buy lesser lenses etc if you are planning on eventually having real good Canon L series glass? Do you have any recommendations for stands for this light/modifier setup? All I need now is the stand but not sure what to get. The 600 pro is quite the heavy light so I'd imagine it'd have to be a C-stand?
Definitely a c stand. I have always heard great things about Matthews C stands for years and my friend who owns a successful studio uses them too; adorama.rfvk.net/y2EqYG
The 600 Pro isn't really a travel light but I actually have taken it with me before to vegas back in 2016. I would mainly suggest traveling with it if you know you're gonna be going against bright sun.
@fjhphoto the thing is I don't know. I plan to go overseas. I just want power. Like they said it's better to have more power than not enough. It's a debate between the ad400 pro or ad 600pro.
@fjhphoto You should try the NEEWER Q4 400Ws 2.4G TTL!!! I would love to see your review and/or a tutorial and how you use this in real life photography!
Wow! $300 discount. That is the lowest I seen and its a flashpoint. Talk about tempting. I have had the AD600bm for 4 years now. To me the biggest difference is the 500 vs 360 capacity flashes and the TTL. I wonder how effective the TTL is on the AD600 as an add on. I hate having to adjust the light often.
@@fjhphoto It’s a crazy deal. I just ordered it. Thanks for the heads up. In the summer they had a $200 off deal this was too good to pass up. I consider this an early black friday gift for myself.
I think another big difference is that the AD600 you can get an extension head for it, but with the 600 Pro you can't. With the extension head being much lighter I find it easier to work with especially when it's higher up.
There is that option for the pro model; adorama.rfvk.net/EL4kX I wasn't sure about this though because I don't own it myself, but just checked and it exists, haha.
My recent tests comparing the new Pro against the original found that the Pro is one stop less powerful than the original. I used the original light reflector on both lights. I compared two different Pro’s against two different originals. I returned the Pro’s.
I actually was curious about this so I got my original 600 and pro model and with the pro's reflector I tested both and you're right that the original tested stronger at f/128 compared to the f90.2. Not sure why that is, but I prefer the pro model still. The handle alone is great and I avoid HSS if possible so it's still an awesome strobe I recommend. I'm gonna do my best to see why the original tested stronger.
@@fjhphoto it could be because of the reflector. I have noticed and have seen a few videos with the AD300 being more powerful with a different reflector than the original reflector. For some reason, the original reflector looses a lot of light on the 300. maybe that's the case with the 600 also?
The original is what I use never had any problems with it nor have I had any problems with the handle. I was going to go for the pro when I first came out but looking at both your really not missing out on anything for real just a new design the original can get the job done and your saving money.
Hope you understand, but I disagree. You miss out on a lot using the original 600. It's not to say that it's a bad light in any way but the silent handle alone was very helpful to me when I used it at some quiet events and the modeling lamp on it has been beyond helpful for low light photoshoots. It's different for everyone though, which is why I just went over the differences in this video so everyone can decide if the pro model is worth it.
@@fjhphoto I agree with you on where you are and what you’re doing with the tool, I also have 2 AD300pro’s and for some areas I’m at I use them instead. Yeah the pro version is nice tho no doubt about it not knocking it but for the price and the way things are economically most will be okay with the OG either TTL model or even non TTL AD600 for sure. Love your content have learned a lot from watching you for the last 3 1/2 years looking forward to your next video. God Bless
yeah, the original is a great deal especially on sale. Thinking about it, someone could just get the original and replace the handle for like $10 and get a $50 LED and just pop it in if they wanted a silent handle and modeling lamp, haha.
@@sonicck I'll look into it. It's been a long while but I do recall a friend buying a handle from home depot and replacing the handle on the original 600.
The 600 Pro is on sale for ~$300 OFF! - adorama.rfvk.net/b3bWYM

Thanks for the recommendation! Just to be 100% sure, you're talking about the handle on the original 600?
Great Video! I need to pick up one of these ad600pro's but I don't really need it!!
Got my original ad600 for $350. Love it.
Black friday deal?

Thanks! Appreciate you watching, man.😊
Would you recommend the pro for traveling? I'm trying to do one light travel. 600ws would be ideal

It’s seriously great. I remember trying TTL for the first time in about April 2016 with the ad600b and it was crazy how well it adjusted the output.

Oh, that's great!! It's good to know it exists. When I first checked is when the Pro version came out, the head extension wasn't available.
Yeah, it definitely wasn't always an option. I'm not even sure when the extension came out, haha.
