Just wanted to say thank you I’m a disabled 57 year old guy and cause of you I’m learning to carve and I love it I just bought my first OCC knife Thank you. Steve from GEORGIA
Because of Doug I got my first OCC (shipley) knife about a year ago. Best knife I own. Thought I had died and gone to carving heaven!! Immediately ordered another one for detail. I've tried a few other brands since then, but none come close. Doug is the Bob Ross of carving! Just keep 'em stropped.
Way to go Steve, I'm a 100% disabled veteran, served in the US Marines, I suffer from PTSD. After I medically retired, I was looking for a hobby which wasn't expensive to start up, and which requires little room to work. I started carving not long ago, and have had a blast, I find that carving helps me through those days when you need that little extra positive energy to get you through the day. It's one of the most fun and enjoyable hobbies I have done in my life. I wish I started carving years ago. I've been an avid wood worker since my youth, and make all kinds of things out of wood, but carving is a great way to take your mind off what ever is bothering you. Hopefully in the future, I'm going to introduce this wonderful hobby to our American Legion members here in the Netherlands as well as Dutch/German military Veterans, many of these men suffer from PTSD as well and see if we can get the Veterans interested in a workshop for carving. I think its therapy for people who carry a lot of stress on their shoulders in their daily lives. I can't thank Doug enough for his creativity, patience but also ease in understanding how to carve these figures. Passing on his knowledge and experience, all the while having fun doing it. Honestly I'm having a blast...
Thank you for your service I suffer with bipolar depression so this is a great way to escape from it all I do own a dealt 788 and love it but I’m in an Appartment right now so don’t have a place to use it looking to get a place of my won with a nice wood shed / MAN CAVE 👍🏻 Thanks for all encouraging words Keep Carving
@@thebigyank1 "Semper Fi Brother" I also am 100% disabled. I have been following Doug for a long time and have started carving because of him. Keep up the good work because it does help the mind. Just to let you know I live just outside the Parris Island gate
I like Doug videos too, but waited at least to the Pumpkin "Pi" joke to like the video. Play hard to get people! At least wait for the first Dad joke. Lol.
Doug i cannot thank you enough! I am carving every day and am enjoying myself following allong to your videos. last week it was the scarecrow and old world Santa which was done by a paper sketch and then winged it onto a block of wood. Not Near as easy as following your videos. Today i just finished the pumpkin man. I wear gloves and tape on my non knife hand and so far only a slight nick or two. Really like the 1 3/4" occ tool knife. my favorite over the larger 2 1/4". thank you for your excellent instructional videos.
I am giving it a go. Thanks Doug. And the line of a pumpkin are called ribs and for every rib is a row of seeds inside... I am told by my master gardener wife!
doug , ordered a tee shirt today, started carving thyis stacked pumkin this morning. i been carving off and on following your exceptional work for like forever. nobody's got nothing on you my friend. don't get a lot of time, your a great teacher. I've carved a few things, some turn out pretty good, but i just keep on keeping on. thanks. bob c.
I like the wire arms so you could put something in his hands, maybe a pencil holder for your desk or a hoe for fall harvest or a fishing pole because he is hoping Doug will take him fishing before winter. Thanks a-lot Doug I appreciate your hard work and your calm tone is relaxing as it should be for an old whittler. 😉
Doug ... Beautiful carving!!! Don’t worry about the technical glitch!!! It happens. No one will question your skills or integrity; no one!!!! I just hate that part of your hard video work was attacked by the video gremlins!!! Shake it off, regroup and we’ll be here for your next figure and video!!! Me and mine wish you and yours all things great and good!!! Take care, be safe, all my best and God bless!!!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 🤠🐩🖖✝️👍
Thanks for another great video, Doug...you're the best! Thank you also to all of the veterans for your selfless service to keep freedom alive!! One comment to the 18 people who've "Disliked" this video...Life is short, try to smile and have some fun while you're here!! :D

Great project. Without doing the vertical indentations of a pumpkin, you can leave then round, plan for some coal 'buttons' down the front, and you have a snowman. :-) A couple twigs for arms and you're set for the upcoming holiday gift season. Thanks for the video, Doug!
Thanks for your time and effort to put these very informative videos. I’ve used your videos to learn how to carve. Greatly appreciate you sharing your talents.
Dude, I was thinking about carving something like this a few days ago but I didn't know how exactly to go about it, I even thought about using your snowman video as a guide but now I can just try this one! haha you're the man, keep up the good work!
Doug, thank you for your calming videos!!!! Every night I make myself watch at least an hour of you, Joe, Shawn, or Ted to relax before bed. It's refreshing, given the state of the world right now. And I've been able to cut down on my anxiety meds because of all of you guys and your videos! Please be safe, happy holidays to you & your family and I look forward to more videos! Judi from Hollywood Florida.
