- Shifting gears, Xbox is looking to build some confidence and momentum coming out of the showcase. Some early leaks are showing that they may be targeting areas long unaddressed like State Of Decay, Perfect Dark, back compat, and much more. We also have information on the next DOOM and Call Of Duty in what is shaping up to be a showcase with some heavy hitters.

If you actually read the lore in DOOM Eternal, you have all the information you need on a possible prequel with the doom slayer arriving on the Sentinels world and being in a "medieval" setting

@@Belligerennt They sorta kinda hinted at the possibility with the remasters that Nightdive did with 1 and 2, which reveal that the Stroggos universe of 2 and 4 is in fact the same universe as 1's Lovecraftian setting. Doom Eternal also hints at a connection with a "slipgate" being hidden in an ancient palace underneath Mars, built by a lost civilization unrelated to the Sentinels. The architecture in that mission looked a lot like the architecture in Quake 1. Also, the Gargoyle enemy in Eternal is actually from an unrelated game called Heretic, which was a fantasy FPS developed by Raven and published by ID; the Codex lore for the Gargoyle in Eternal, which reveals it's not a demon from Hell, but a native to the Sentinel homeworld, sounds a lot like the world of Heretic.
It's been a long running theory that Quake 1 had you play as a pre techno-fascism Strogg during their early experiments with teleportation, and the resultant outbreak of dimensional monsters lead to Stroggos adopting the ultra technology and militaristic lifestyle we see in 2 and 4. The remaster of 2 confirms that ancient Strogg did indeed have run ins with the Lovecraftian entities of 1, with shrines dedicated to Sub Niggurath, and even a few Shamblers as boss fights.
Put all these pieces together and I wouldn't be surprised to see ID go for a shared universe with all of their FPS franchises. I know multiverses are overdone, but this is a setting already rife with time travel, dimension hopping, and alternate realities; it's also a setting that loves going over the top. So if they wanna do it, I say do it.

Look at the last 10 years of Xbox, and ask yourselves if hyping up a showcase makes a lot of sense.
You would think if only there were some way to know...some sort of track record to discern from...but those guys at xbox are relatively unknown so I guess were obligated to assume the best. 🤣

I'm honestly only interested in Doom. Id Software has consistently been COOKING with the Doom franchise, none of the games are bad. They even delivered during QUARANTINE. They started to get a bit fatigued with Doom, but moving on to a more medieval aesthetic should help them get a fresh new take on the Doom franchise.
The horror about Tango studios is completely gone and now everything is hype for the leaks.
I wouldn't say it's completely gone. I'm still pissed as fuck about it. But I'm also still excited for their other teams output like Avowed. Not going to punish Obsidian for MS C-suite fuckery.
Basically, still as excited as ever for individual output from Xbox. But at rock bottom hype for any sort of overall brand hype. Because they might well knock this showcase out of the part, but you just have to know they'll do something to crash that momentum into a brick wall before long

Lost Odyssey 4k60 remaster would be amazing. It was the last true turned base FF game. It could use a good full relaunch on multiple platforms for the JRPG fans that didn’t / don’t have an Xbox.

Since everyone is pushing Obsidian for a new Fallout (which I personally could do without), I wouldn't be surprised if they are forced to push back work on anything else.
All Activision games that end up on game pass from Prototype to many others, deserve an FPS boost.
I used to be a huge xbox boy and I want to be hyped for these games but after seeing the past few years especially with these company closures I'm not having any faith. They went out used all their money to buy all these huge companies and now have to be the heads of these companies and now it's too much on their plates. They have too much to focus on and not enough members to control that. They got too greedy thinking of buying out all these companies and not seeing the issues to come when you buyout so many companies. These game leaks are just nothing now. They said they had learned their mistake after Lionsgate but look how that turned out. They are just focusing on how we consume games not how we find entertainment anymore.
How can anyone have any trust in Xbox after all what happened is a mystery to me.

That’s depends on what “style” means. I don’t know how well hardcore lovecraftian horror will mesh with the ultra blood power fantasy that is doom. They’ve always been similar in aesthetic, but I’m a bit cautious on the idea.

I’m calling it right now. We’re going to see a shit ton announcements and teasers BUT no release date for anything except what’s dropping on GamePass right away. The biggest announcement during this showcase is going to be Call of Duty on the GamePass and Gears and the Master Chief Collection going to PlayStation

I'm really not. I think Obsidian have been exactly what Xbox want. Between Grounded which has been a pretty big hit despite having a tiny dev team, to Pentiment which was niche but acclaimed. But again, had a tiny dev team so was very cheap to make.
I think Tangos problem (not that I agree with the closure, but in their mind) was that their games never seemed to do well/were niche AND they were a big expensive team. Which is a massive shame as they were rapidly becoming one of my favourite studios.

Empty words and promises, thats honestly the MO of MS and honestly most western developers these days. The amount of times I got excited believing things still to be 2010 era only to be dissapointed by what they put put while the developers unceasingly seemed to be extremely impressed with the mid garbage they put out has unsettled me for years. Meanwhile they are constantly on Twitter and other social media pissing away time that could be spent on their craft. I will remain permanently wary until I see a real attitude and output shift. At this point I just dont think these people have what it takes. They are larping to be a game dev where the old guard that came before them actually were. Even if Xbox does address concerns, who with any common sense, it's going to believe them? Not me. They have told me too many things and that's not what ended up happening. The issue isn't Xbox it's media and the general public.
Even if Xbox release a banger first party Xbox exclusive it wouldn't matter, no one new is buying a Xbox console they are worried now about gamepass sub.

@@MrShika07 lol, this is not true. You are correct if they come out with a banger it may not do anything. Because at this point they need to come out with about five bangers. But one banger is a step in the right direction. And yes media can have something to do with things, but most of the media is telling the truth when it comes to these games. Yeah you got your fanboys on each side that do their thing, but for the most part the media is telling the truth. Xbox needs to come out and have about three or four bangers, triple AAA Blockbuster bangers, not these double A and single a games.
We were also VERY excited when trailers or even "gameplay" were shown for Starfield, Redfall, and Hellblade 2, but this turned out differently. Why should it be significantly different this time?

@mikebrown9051 makes a lot of sense, considering Xbox has closed studios down and any Dlc, games in development, or close to release are now cancelled, and with more set to close there, possibly more games set to be indefinitely cancelled if their respective studio is closed down.

That first avowed cinematic with the arrow flying got me soo hyped, the gameplay reveal was a total letdown. The graphics and style change was a real bummer.
100%!!! Obsidian had a grand idea in mind and they wanted to create an epic game... But then as they started to realize how big the project was going to be, they gave up and decided to just stick to what they knew. They played it safe and will be creating another game exactly like the outer worlds. It's lazy and even though I may slightly enjoy the game like TOW... it's going to be a major disappointment for A LOT of people who were expecting much, much more.
... This happens every year with these rumours/leaks for the Xbox Showcase. Then, everytime, we see a ton of people feel disappointed, even if in general, the Xbox Showcase is/are good overall.
I am going to keep my expectations in check.

I am hoping to get an update on Fable.
My predictions: No Banjo, no Conker. Big focus on new Sea of Thieves "content" (more fetch quests). For the new Perfect Dark, Joanna Dark is a black female protagonist and they've changed her last name. State of Decay 3 has no co-op and a bigger focus on story and cutscenes. Gears 6 has a female protagonist and is completely open world.

I love hearing about Operation Darkness especially from Matty. It was a very fun and unique JRPG on the 360 from Atlus. I would love to see a Retrorebound review or video on it. To be honest it's one of the reasons why I bought a 360 and it was my 1st game preorder.

Xbox needs to establish a criteria of what will be exclusive and what won’t. This nebulous “anything could go to PS” strategy makes it difficult to choose Xbox if gamepass and timed exclusivity aren’t important to a person.
We will be getting Doom the dark ages in two years after the teaser just like with Eternal.

Indiana Jones is my favorite movie series! I’m so psyched for it, but I don’t know about 1st person. State of decay is a sleeper I’m waiting to know about. Avowed has a tone that I’m not sure about. I am glad that I held up on my 2 years of game pass until I got hellblade 2 reviews. I’m more interested in the original title than this sequel. I want to know about that southern game. JRPG ain’t my thing. Showing previous success would help the brand. Give me a reason to TURN ON my series x for real!
I’d love to see Operation Darkness as we never got it in Europe back in the day and a WW2 supernatural SRPG ticks ALL my boxes. Culdcept Saga would be good too for the same reasons!
