    As someone who works at one of the big three and is still employed I am glad to see all the dead weight cut. I work 10-11 hours straight 6 days a week making sure backend migrations into the cloud are running smoothly (it almost never runs smoothly lol) definitely no time to vlog. I can say first hand that there were way too many employees who did nothing. I was forced to engage with them just for the sake of being “inclusive” even though they were useless and couldn’t contribute anything to the project.
    Had to laugh at the one text message where someone asked “why didn’t they cut the lower ranked performers?” Uhhh they did and if you were actually critical to anything you wouldn’t have been let go

      Ya, as a Dev who's worked at companies like this, I can defintely say its the Devs doing most of the work in these places (not all Devs, but most are working hard).
      Ive been on projects that only had 2 Devs, but like 10 other managers, designers, analysts, and other non Dev positions. And many times us devs basically had to do their jobs too, cuz they would regularly have the worst ideas that we'd have to push back on and come up with better ideas that actually work. Designers that don't know UI/UX, analysts that don't know how to come up with useful A/B tests, execs that think every idea they cr4p out is solid gold, etc.
      The projects I've been apart of that were the most successful were the ones with nothing but devs, where we were just told to make it happen as fast as possible. Had the full app up in 2 weeks, with all the UI/UX and analysis bells and whistles after a month. Course everyone was shocked, but hey when you get outa way turns out we can get stuff done! Being a Dev aint just about code anymore

    I am a recruiter and was recently fired from big tech. When I was hired, within a month, I asked another recruiter I worked with, "Why did they hire us?" There was almost no work, I begged for work, was told more work was coming soon, and it never did. You would not believe the amount of money they waste. I should have been fired because I never should have been hired. But the money...yeah, it's silly good. I literally told my boss at one point, "If they want to keep paying me for this, fine, but it doesn't feel right."

    • @mrp2301
      @mrp2301 8 місяців тому

      @@timostegemann9738 Our business is in the medical field. We run a diagnostic medical facility that specializes in screening job applicants that want to work overseas. We make sure they are medically fit according to the medical regulations of the country they are being deployed to. The health agencies of said countries also inspect us annually to make sure that we adhere to their standards but that's beside the point but also kinda important for context. To answer your question, there are a lot of businesses like ours but do not have the certification of said countries. The health agencies of those countries tend to limit the number of accredited medical facilities so they would have a much tighter control. Say a job applicant was marked as 'fit for emplyment' and was cleared for deployment, upon arrival to their destination country, they would have to undergo a similar medical examination to make sure OUR results would match theirs. Say again that somehow, this applicant had a scar on his lung that we didn't see. It would mean repatriation and penalties would be imposed on us. This is one of the primary reasons they want a tighter control of the number of medical facilities that have been given approval. Now that long explanation is out of the way, those other non-accredited medical facilities complained to our government and cried "Monopoly" so congress intervened and we had to suspend all operations. We had prepared well enough for a recession but there's only so much we can do when the government is involved. In the end, nothing came out of it and we were allowed to resume operations again after 3 to 4 years of government red tape. Also, of course, during the height of COVID, all deployments were halted. Add those to the fact that our government hasn't allowed us to increase our prices since the 90s, I'm kind of patting myself in the back that I was able to keep the layoffs to 30%

The second they don’t need you they’ll cut you and wont think twice about it.” This is a prime example, google has every right to do it. I’m not saying they shouldn’t have. They made a decision that they thought would better the company. But just like they have the right to do it, you have every right to always explore other options. Don’t ever be loyal to a company, they’re not “family”, they don’t care about you, if you died tomorrow they’d replace you within a week. You work and they pay you. After that there is no owing, there is no loyalty. Don’t ever feel guilty about taking a better opportunity.

      Our generation saw the collapse of communism and the rise of the internet. Back in the 1960s doing business overseas was slow and expensive. And risky: Nobody knew which country would be the next to fall to the communists. So American companies played it safe and kept the jobs in the US. Today a tech company can email an assignment anywhere - China, Vietnam, Cambodia - and have them do it in a matter of days, or even hours. American workers are very replaceable.

    Just a note about that massive hangar and why it has multiple museums in it. It's the Howard Hughes hangar where he made the Spruce Goose, as well as played a staging role during WWII. Funny story, I worked for Electronic Arts at their LA campus that is across the street from there in the mid 2000's (long before it became Googles LA campus), and they were building new condo's and apartments on what was the end of the old runway closest to the ocean. They found a bunch of bombs while digging one day (as in the bombs you'd load onto B-17s during the war and drop on cities) and they called an emergency evacuation of the whole area! Turns out they were just un-used empty casings they filled with concrete and buried, but fun times!!!
    Anyways, there's a TON of history about that hangar and it's airport. Also fun fact, since that was one of the largest hangar style buildings of it's kind, a lot of movie studios would rent it to build massive sets in! The original Independence Day, Titanic, Iron Man 1, and the original Avatar all filmed in that hangar (along with a lot more)!! So there's also a lot of Hollywood history in that building as well.

My job has always consisted of walking around on the sales floor and ending up with sore feet and a sore back at the end of the day. The only privileges I have had was an employee discount.

If you are in tech and are doing something meaningful like actual problem-solving, you are safe. PR people and social media staff is getting kicked off as well as "coders" who do not have the intuiton sto solve problems. Well here is my comment, I work for one of these major companies that you just mentioned, and yeah most the employees that have all this free time just doing nothing are probably the ones that got fire. Working with code is such a stressful field to be on mentally, and even though I try to upload videos on my channel, I hardly have time to do such thing. On my company, we have to deal with a bunch of people working remote and taking forever to respond an email cuz they are probably grabbing groceries or doing some outdoor activities, so yeah, if you got fires most likely is cuz the company realized how much you were costing them and the little amount of work you did.

We earn our positions, as well as our incomes. We wouldn’t have time for massage chairs and cafeteria lunches even if the company provided those options. I’m so grateful to be able to work hard.

    The average American worker can't help but delight in these long-overdue layoffs. I worked for a large global company that implemented some of these luxe amenities (core ball chairs, 10-minute scheduled massage sessions during busy season), but we had billable hour requirements. To accept a position in most departments, employees agreed to 60-hour workweeks. If you want to KEEP the best and brightest, you don't give them these absurd amenities and let them run amok in their office playground unchecked. The girl who video'd the ghosts and dog googler was by far the most ridiculous to me. That's probably why she went viral with the haters. Her layoff video said "layoffs were not performance-based." But come on. She's only fooling herself. These companies finally realized they weren't getting any brilliant ideas (or any work at all in most cases) from these spoiled kids and finally had the good sense to cut their losses. I can't imagine the culture shock when these play babies have to work in a real office, pay for their own breakfast, lunch and snacks and are forced to endure an 8-hour workday without naps.

He not only works his 8, but never finishes on time because he is usually stuck in an afternoon meeting. Being in the security side of tech, he is on-call 24/7, carries 2 phones with him everywhere, and has often worked “days” if there was any type possible threat. I remember once he and the team were in the office for 6 days to resolve an issue. He is salary so no matter how many hours he works, that is it. There is no additional compensation, no free food, drinks, or ping pong tables.
