    Because of boredom I did remove the roots one one and took mo 4 hrs -_- I stopped doing it one by one when my body ached already. I regret doing that.
    So for those who comment about the time it took to do that i tell you 4 hrs. If i did not stoo the one by one root removing it might took me more that 5 hrs.
    Today is the 6th day of my mung bean sprout. It's 5-6 inches tall not includding the roots and i grew it in a 11x4 inches steamer pot. So as you can imagine the quantity. Will never do that again hahaha.
    I just did it out of curiosuty and boredom. But I found out that it also has a pros like there are some individual mung bean sprouts that are dark brown which is bad for other healthy sprouts.

    Thanks! I didn’t realize how much work is required to get the sprouts looking pretty. I also heard the hard outer hull of most beans is what gives lots of people indigestion.

    What the reason for removing the root of bean sprouts and seeds. Aren't the seed part full of nutrition?

    • @RGJ109
      @RGJ109 4 роки тому +2

      Abi , I think you can eat the bean hulls (seed shells) if you want more fiber. But while in China, they always had hulls removed. More attractive, I guess. Some bean hulls contain “anti-enzymes” which make them indigestible...for instance, they could pass through a deer’s gut whole.

    • @lms5608
      @lms5608 2 роки тому +1

      It ensures an even texture as the root and the tip arent as crunchy as the middle part. Fancy restaurants and old restaurants in china still clean them, also just for pretty. Once you clean them theyre called silver sprouts, but at home theres no point cleaning them, unless you want to impress someone.

    Why clean them??? By doing that you miss the nutritious from the root though...

    • @nyonyacooking
      @nyonyacooking  7 років тому +17

      Sprouted beans themselves contain lots of vitamins and nutrients. You can eat them if you would prefer to do so but I personally find it extremely disturbing especially when the long brown roots get stuck in between teeth. So, at home, we always clean them. It also looks more presentable :) There are always ways where you can grow mung bean sprouts without those roots. Of course, this cleaning process is not applicable to other types of sprouts like alfalfa.
