    3 milliseconds (not microseconds) on the attack and the SC control restricts the amount LF content that controls compression. It doesn’t change how much LF content reaches the output. Not sure you explained that well Mitch. Normally love your videos but this one felt rushed.

    Mitch knows how to properly demo a compressor, taking into account our short aural memory, and giving us just a few seconds between comparisons! None of that playing a long piece of audio, having a few seconds of silence, and then re-playing the same piece with the compressor engaged. It's hard to hear differences that way.

    I own a WA76, a WA73-EQ, and two WA-EQP's. I was so excited for this release announcement. This is the first audio I have heard of it. At nearly 5 minutes into the video I was thinking to myself "there's still no audio and the title has the word demo in it! Come on, I'm dying to hear it!" Then when we finally got there, it ends up sounding worse than the Waves SSL G Master Compressor. This simply isn't worth the money. And I normally LOVE the Cinemag transformers in my other Warm gear, but engaging them here just wasn't a good fit, and confirmed my fear of Warm putting them in as many units as they can. My opinion, of course. But I would say go big or go home; I'll be picking up a WesAudio Dione.

    • @seantomalty3062
      @seantomalty3062 4 роки тому +1

      Agreed. i also own a lot of warm audio gear and for the price they are great units, but i agree when it comes to master and bus compressors this one does not make the cut. The attack is decent, but the low end isn't enough for my style of production. I knew the quality wasn't there when they have been openly refusing to release any audio of their own product. this was the first audio example theyve released and its clearly a sales pitch. looks like they are hoping for bandwagoners and in this case that will not be me! im still between stam and heritage, but ill look into the WesAudio Dione as well! thanks for the heads up. haven't heard of them.

      Hey, sorry I missed this before. Just as an fyi, I did in fact get that Dione, and it has blown me away. One of those very few purchases where it made me feel like the gear was doing more than me the engineer was doing. Like "wow, do I even have to mix with this thing on the master?" Lol. Exaggerating obviously. But I highly recommend it now. My thinking is like what you said, when it comes to 2bus duties, it's very important for it to be amazing. For smaller picture purposes, like individual tracks, I don't personally feel as much need to shell out big bucks on every piece of gear. But I'm glad I did for that one. And the THD saturation feature is heavenly. When I put it on med, it makes every mix so far sound better. The more aggressive THD mode is fun/tempting too, but has been just a little too much on most of what I've tried it on so far. I ought to try that on a drum bus though. Aside from that, the side-chain filter also feels like a must-have for me. So very transformative to use that thing. Totally worth every penny if you ask me!

      Warm audio and any other knock-off hardware is over rated. People hyped them up way too much because they're cheap but if you want hardware worth investing, then it's just better to buy the real product; then you'll never have to worry about measuring up or have that nagging feeling in the back of your head saying "what am I missing?". until you can afford the real hardware, use plugins which are plenty good these days and give you unlimited instances so that you have no limitations and you can instead focus on honing your mixing skills.

    Does the high pass filter set the frequency below which the compressor will not "listen" and thus only start compressing, when the level of frequencies above that of the high pass filter, cross the threshold, so the compressor will still compress the full spectrum? Or does it actually not compress the frequencies below that of the high pass filter, even at high gain reduction?
    I understand that these videos are made so that people can hear the compressor working...would be nice if there was a more subtle example as there was so much pumping that I actually preferred the uncompressed version.
    Also the transformers are very subtle...maybe too subtle even. I didn't hear any rounding of the bass, actually when it got depressed the bass went to this low note and it sounded deeper right after the transformers, where switched off.
    Will wait for more sound examples.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 роки тому

      @nektar Thanks for the feedback and your question: as far as the highpass filter, you're correct in that it controls the frequency at which the compressor starts responding - the full range signal is still being compressed. It's a great tool for preventing bass from over-triggering compression. Thanks for watching!

    • @nectariosm
      @nectariosm 4 роки тому +1

      @@sweetwater Thanks for clearing that up. If the feedback sounded too harsh, I meant no ill will by it. In retrospect, its good that I got to hear the compressor "working" so the review is well made. Just that I would back the pumping up, but that is of course personal preference, which is besides the review of this unit.
      Thank you.

    As much as I love Warm Audio gear I'm afraid that the Heritage Audio Successor sounds a lot thicker. I pre-ordered this one, let's hope I'm wrong.

    • @FrancisJoa
      @FrancisJoa 4 роки тому +18

      The Heritage Successor is a DIODEBRIDGE compressor (like the Neve 2254 was and has Carnhill transformers). The Warm unit here is a CLEAN sounding VCA compressor (with the possibility to engage a Cinemag transformer what is not the case in the real SSL G comp). These two units are totally different type of compressors and can´t be compared with each other. Get both units if you have the money.

    • @parisstudio
      @parisstudio 4 роки тому +1

      @@FrancisJoa I know what it is. No explanation needed. Like I said, I didn't hear any difference with the transformer on.

    • @FrancisJoa
      @FrancisJoa 4 роки тому +1

      @@parisstudio The signal became grittier with the transformers on. But you can only hear that when the compressor was not on bypass and the transfoerms were engaged. He engaged the transformers when the unit was still in bypass and in the last bit of the audio demo he engaged the comp.

    • @parisstudio
      @parisstudio 4 роки тому +3

      @@FrancisJoa again, no explanation. I've been in this business over 25yrs. I know what I'm talking about. This video does not help the unit. I'm a Warm Audio Artist. I have one on the way. Blessings

    • @FrancisJoa
      @FrancisJoa 4 роки тому +14

      @@parisstudio It seems you don´t know what you are talking about because otherwise you wouldn´t even have compared a by design and on purpose clean sounding VCA compressor with a by design fat and thick sounding diodebridge compressor.That is like comparing apples with oranges. The original SSL G bus compressor doesn´t even have a transformer like the Warm unit has. It is just a plus.

    • @MixingGBP
      @MixingGBP 4 роки тому +3

      blue name Nothing wrong with that, of course. There seems to be a renaissance with hardware rack components and the analog sound they can give. Some argue that plugins can't match their hardware equivalents. At the end of the day, it's up to you to decide what sounds good.
