  • Changing a water pump on a 1990 -1995 Toyota 4runner/pickup 3.0 (3VZE). Starting with timing belt already removed. I have to apologize, the wind was blowing when I made this video and the sound was horrible. I fixed the problem by narrating it and hopefully it is still easy to follow.

I have been having some overheating issues a year or more after changing my water pump (91 Toyota truck). And I am narrowing it back down to my water pump (no problems before). Is it possible for a new pump to go bad that quickly?

Touché... That would for sure help in the leak department!

Use the metal gasket AND rtv grey silicone for a leak proof installation. Takes an extra 5 minutes, and you don't want to do this job twice.

I want to say the entire timing belt project was about 4 hours.

The kit seems to be a pretty decent deal. Rockauto.com always has good deals as well.
I believe The bypass tube goes to an oil cooler (optional on I believe 92 and newer vehicles). If you can determine if there is an oil cooler then that would tell you if you need that kit. I would call Toyota and give them the vin. They should be able to tell you.
