I got mine leaking oil from the oil cooler. So thanks for the video. When you get rust in your coolant. Not good 😐. Reason for the issue is that a lot of people put tap water in the radiator. Use the 50 50 mix or the pure antifreeze. But use DISTILLED WATER. Very important.
The condition of the water is because the wrong coolant has been used. You should use toyotas red coolant as it is designed for the type of aluminum that is used in this engine. Also the red coolant has glycol which many other coolants don't have. Mine has 450,000 k's and the heads have never been touched.
Thanks for the video. I'm doing the same job on my son's 1990 pickup. Having a hard time getting the parts from my Toyota dealer...waiting for 2 weeks! Can't find aftermarket gaskets. Also doing the valve cover gaskets. Got those from Carquest the next day!
Hey Dan, did you use a saw for that tree or those tuff as nails choppers? Lol, all in fun man. Your livin large. Same problem waiting for dealer parts here too. Keep up the good fight!
@@timzimerman475 Went to a different Toyota dealer and got the parts in a few days. All back together. No oil leaks but I had to replace a leaking high pressure fuel line to the inner fuel rail. $150 new but I got one from the wreckers for $10. Working on rockers and other body work now. It's a labour of love.
Can you tell me about yours. Think I have a blown head. How does this video help determine what's up? I had an overheat and oil and coolant mix shooting out of my oil dipstick.
You can also take it down to local radiator shop and they can clean it out. Came out clean charged me about 35. Part is not available. Go to dealer and get the 3 o rings and will be like brand new.

I think that u dont hve to drain your oil because the oil cooler sits on the top n all the oil sit on the oil pan ima do the same job n just drain the coolant n replace the o rings on the oil cooler good luck my ride is a 1995 4runner
@@DanielAlvarez-xl4qy that's what l'm thinking. Mines a 95 and the long hose is swollen and floppy. It's all those years of oil changes. They have the hose in a spot where it gets soaked every oil change.l thought the cooler was leaking so l bought an o ring kit. Then l washed the engine and there are no leaks. I'm gonna take it off anyway after seeing the build up in the lines, which is pretty common from what l've seen and read.

Next on my list, I thought it was something a lot more serious. Looks like a pain in the ass though.
Do you really need to drain the oil? I just did an oil change.
