    Hi all, I just wanted to address one popular talking point that some viewers may be surprised or upset that I omitted; that is, the reported unusually high euthanasia rate at PETA-owned animal shelters. The reason that I didn’t touch on this is that I wasn’t able to find any sources discussing that claim that aren’t severely biased in some way. The site PetaKillsAnimals, the most prolific mouthpiece against this practice, was created by a meat-industry-funded interest group, while the main defenders of this practice are… Well, PETA.
    As a non-journalist I don’t have the resources to definitively confirm whether this practice is as a result of an extremist anti-pet stance (as the opponents claim) or whether it’s because they mostly take in animals that no-kill shelters are unable to care for (as PETA and defenders claim). Therefore, I chose to not factor this talking point into my assessment of PETA as an organization.

      As a not a journalist myself, I should point to the fact that PETA were once successfully sued for kidnapping someone's dog and put them down, and were at least known to do it at such a high rate by the state of Virginia, where their not profit status is held. Let alone the fact that they lied about things like sheep shearing, a process that actually HELPS the animals, and the milk industry and milk causing autism, which it doesn't.

      @@daniexists6 Can vouch for that, they got in big trouble because the family caught it on camera. Like... They use biscuits to get the Chihuahua go towards them and snatched them from there*. It's horrible. The fact that these workers even thought to do that to a dog that obviously had a home was disgusting. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it before, but were never caught. I despise this group with all my being.
      *Edit: I went back to double check my memory and it is worse. The dog still went back to the porch after eating the biscuits and the workers got fed up and entered the property to snatch them from there.

      I've seen some awful undercover footage of sheep shearing and that footage wasn't even from PETA. And the dairy industry is one ogäf the most cruel things I've EVER witnessed. Baby calves being taken away from their mothers so that they can't drink the milk that is meant for them. Instead the milk goes to humans. I once visited a dairy farm and the mother cow's were crying still after many weeks of their babies being taken away from them. They won't be reunited again. The babies are put into small crates and fed formula. The male calves are send to have their throat slit and made into veal. And the female calves are raised to be milk machines just like their mom.

    • @elenasukunimi6553

      Sorry about the spelling errors I made, I don't know how to edit the text anymore. But why are we even drinking the milk of a cow? It is so unnatural. It is just as unnatural as drinking horse's milk. Cows produce milk for the same reason humans do: for their babies. So that their babies can grow into adult cows. When I tell you that the dairy industry is one of the most cruel and inhumane things to ever exist please believe me. Or better yet go and look up videos of it. Here is an example video: DAIRY IS SCARY! The industry explained in 5 minutes

      @ripleyandweeds1288 6 місяців тому +247

      @@elenasukunimi6553You seem really susceptible to bias that its kinda sad. Shearing a sheep does not harm the sheep if the person shearing them knows what they're doing, nobody purposefully hurts a sheep while shearing it because that can greatly effect the animal and therefore the wool you gain from it. Ask any sheep farmer this and they'll tell you that harming a sheep is the last thing anybody wants to do if they want to keep their business and animals.
      You're also anthropromorphizing these animals way too much, cows literally do not have the same level of sapience and emotional complexity that humans have, they're not crying because their precious babies are being taken away from them, that's just absurd and is applying an overly emotional response to something that realistically does not have it, kinda like what PETA's entire campaign is based on. Did you know that cow calves will actually end up hurting their mothers' udders if they're not weaned off their milk after a certain amount of time, which can cause infections?
      Thirdly, you do realize that people can be against industries like the dairy industry and still consume these products locally, right? Its not a black and white issue, its extremely nuanced and you're really just ignoring that here. If you hate these industries so much, then support local farmers who put a great deal into caring for their animals because making sure the animal is happy and has its needs ensures that its milk or eggs or wool is as top quality as possible.
      In your other comment you say its 'unnatural' for humans to drink the milk of cows, and that it's just as unnatural as say drinking horse milk; which is an _extremely_ amero-centric view to be honest. In a lot of cultures its perfectly normal to drink horse milk, or donkey milk, and even sheep and camel milk. In a lot of cultures milk is one of the most important parts of a person's diet, with cows being sacred for the fact they produce milk. Are those cultures wrong because of the overly westernized fee-fees of people like you or PETA? That's the thing a lot of these animal rights groups tend to have in common, the fact that they're either borderline xenophobic, or outright racist.
      And if you're gonna just throw out random videos as proof, at least don't choose the ones with the most biased sounding titles.

    • @vtgdog
      @vtgdog 6 місяців тому +144

      i understand where you're coming from, but i'd like to challenge your perspective. tofu is a staple BECAUSE of vegetarianism (or, more specifically, east asian buddhism) - we're not sure if it was created with the intent of being a meat substitute, but its prominence is due to its use as an important protein in the vegetarian diets of east asian buddhists. it's not really possible to uncouple tofu from vegetarianism, at least historically speaking. not everyone who eats tofu is vegetarian, but they eat tofu because of vegetarianism.
      when these games were made, the options for mock meat were few and far between. they were expensive and difficult to even find, even more so than now - if you didn't have morningstar bacon or boca burgers at your local walmart, you had to special order these things from a catalog. and admittedly, even today, mock meats still have a lot of the shortcomings of their animal-based inspirations (i'd personally like to see more data on how veg diets fare now vs. when mock meats and other veg junk food weren't as prominent).
      simultaneously, there was this whole 'thing' around eating tofu here in the US. the only time i ever heard about tofu growing up was in the context of how gross it was - often at the expense of vegetarians or with a healthy dose of racism. so a lot of veg messaging at the time - not just from PETA - focused on promoting tofu as a delicious, affordable, and easily-accessible source of plant-based protein. i don't see how that could possibly be a bad thing unless you want to throw the baby (veg diets/activism broadly) out with the bathwater (PETA).

Abusing pokémon (capture and battling without the pokémon's consent; cruel experiments; etc) is often reserved to villains and villains only! Of course there's the Masterball, but even that can be discussed, since pokémon can escape after the capture ant it's more a game mechanic than anything.

    Aside from traumatizing me as a kid and making me terrified of playing/watching anything related to Pokemon Black And White, the most ironic thing about all this is the "I Support Team Plasma" sign
    Team Plasma is meant to be a direct jab at groups like PETA, who cause more harm and abuse to animals than help them and only really say they care about animals for good PR or become extremists who do terrible things to animals under the guise of it being the "right thing"
    Right during the early game you actually witness a Plasma Grunt cornering a baby pokemon, Munna, holding it down and kicking it repeatedly to make it spit up dream mist until an adult Musharna uses illusions to scare them away
    The only one who genuinely cares about pokemon in Team Plasma is N and his kindness/desire to take care of and help pokemon is exploited by Ghetsis (much like PETA/similar groups exploit the kindness of animal lovers)
    In B2W2 they fully throw out the pokemon welfare image and openly do things like experiment on the legendary dragon Kyurem and force it to merge with Reshiram/Zekrom
    PETA completely missing the entire point of Team Plasma being a direct jab at groups like them and their practices, and then proudly backing them having clearly not looked into the games beyond a surface level, is always hilarious to me

      (For context for those who don't know: Pokemon games have a mechanic called Friendship, which increases over time and after winning battles, among other things. Some Pokemon need high enough friendship to evolve. Friendship can range from -0 to 120- Edit: it's 0 to 255.)
      Also, in B2W2, Ghetsis has a Hydreigon that knows Frustration, aka the move that does more damage based on how low a Pokemon's friendship is, and his Hydreigon does the highest amount of damage with Frustration (i.e., its Friendship is at 0). So, the group they're praising has a leader with a Pokemon who hates him, and is exploiting that fact to make it a more efficient fighter.
      Stunning analysis, PETA

    as a pokemon fan, black and blue pisses me off to no end. canonically, pokemon battles are less like dog fighting and more like a sparring match between friends- its as a form of play and theres nothing stopping them from just not battling. wild pokemon can break out of any pokeball they want, and they battle to see if youre worthy of their protection and companionship. and fun fact! there are some characters who actually mistreat their pokemon, and theyre always villains!! what the hell do they think the evil teams are???? pokemon itself is incredibly anti-cruelty!!!

    I became vegetarian back in 2008 when I was around 10 or 11, mostly because my older sister had and I looked up to her but also partially because I grew up on a farm and my uncle telling me the name of the cow we were eating at dinner was offputting. I played the cooking mama peta game SO MUCH, I found it so so funny cause at age 10 I had plucked birds and prepped them and been to the abertoire a bunch of times and everything they said in it was just so outlandish and untrue compared to my lived experiances. Plus I didnt have cooking mama on my ds so it was the next best thing. There is a lot to crit the farming industry on (and even more to crit the dairy industry on) but it always struck me as weird that they never brought up the abuse of people working farm jobs and the fact that a lot of bad practices are needed because of set price rates from supermarkets causing farmers to lose money if they don't do unethical practices in a way they cant afford not to do if they dont want to lose their homes or jobs. Even as a kid it was kind of jarring in a (to me at that age) hilarious way to see them make just bad arguments while missing a lot of what I thought was the point of animal rights activism. I'm still vegetarian today, but I'd never condemn people for eating meat. And I actively encourage buying real leather, especially secondhand just because it's so much better for the environment.

It is disappointing, I know, because it shows they are strong against the weak but weak against the strong...

    At my college a presumably PETA-affiliated spokesperson set up a table next to the other tables for sororities and clubs and stuff. She went up to people that were passing by and told them she'd give them a dollar to watch a video. Me being a poor college student, of course I went for it. I think it was a compilation of different animals in slaughterhouses or something? I don't really react all that much to gore most of the time, so it didn't shock or haunt me or anything- rather, it was quite funny to see her face when I started talking about how, yes, the meat industry is incredibly damaging to animals and the environment, but we also can't ignore the significant ecological damage done by farms producing stuff like soy, almonds, and other ingredients for meat-replacements. Got the dollar, went on my merry way.

    Props for the music and gameplay, at least. PETA's harm is not just gory images or tone-deaf games, they lack nuance when it comes to dealing with animals in general. As you hinted at the start, faux fur is plastic and will not rot like actual hide will. Then there is the famous 'woolsweater' picture about something beneficial for sheep (shearing.) And they love to call Iditarot (Sled Dog competition) abusive because they are 'forcing' the sled dogs to run in the cold, ignoring that sled dogs aren't cold and enjoy pulling.
    In effect, PETA ignores even situations that would be helpful for the animals/nature. Not giving any guides to deal with animals properly outside never interacting with them.
