Polly Pocket; she's rich beyond your wildest dreams and no taller than 5 inches. In this video I take a look at every generation of Polly we've seen yet, but with an intense focus on the 2002-2010 era that I grew up with, including the toys, and flash games, and three movie releases; Lunar Eclipse, 2 Cool at the Pocket Plaza, and Pollyworld.
This video is intended for adult audiences and contains some adult language. Viewer discretion is advised.

the act of laying down in this video is such a powerful thing to do. you're showing that just because you have to work in a different setting/position doesn't make your work any less good or worthy. I feel like this is a really cool thing to do, not only because it makes you feel better and more comfortable, but also because it brings awareness to the fact that it's okay to do whatever feels right for you. I already had a lot of respect for you and the content you put out, but this made me a fan ❤

As a disabled person, I’m happy to see that you are taking steps to make your video-making process work for YOU 💖 Plus, you lying down adds to the Vibes of it all. It makes me feel like we’re at a sleepover together, which is super nostalgic. And, of course, the content of your videos is as stellar as always! 37:52 The reason Lorelei sounds so good is that she's voiced by Kathleen Barr: the quintessential voice actor for female cartoon villains. Including (but not limited to) Queen Chrysalis in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Aspheera from Ninjago, dozens of Barbie villains (Diamond Castle, Mermaid's Tail, etc.) and even Marie and Kevin in Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy. And she even voiced various characters in the 2018 Polly Pocket animated series.
*Also, Beth is voiced by Tabitha St. Germain, who voices Rarity and Princess Luna in My Little Pony.

as an only child of divorced parents (who were together until i was 16 but always dysfunctional before that) the pollyworld film really mattered to me because it really showcased that you can have it all, but still absent parents and struggle with lonliness. there was still enough fun wish fulfillment throughout to make that theme not too triggering for my young self. to me it was the one thing that really grounded polly as a character in a way that for example barbie or bratz movies usually didnt. for a long time, i felt like i had everything i could wish for (though of course not nearly as much as polly), but i was still so unhappy and i internalized that as being ungrateful and selfish. it was only after my parents' divorce that i could recognize and work on the trauma that my parents (specifically my dad) gave to me. i had pollyworld on dvd and i must have watched it a hundred times. i watched it on youtube a while back again, when i was going through a nostalgic phase, and it made me realise why i found so much comfort in it. there is more children's media dealing with divorce, but it always really heads on about the divorce itself and not the dysfunctionality either before or after., the way polly's concerns are brushed off here specifically strikes a nerve with me, because thats exactly how it felt for me. ok im starting to cry, so im going to stop writing this comment, but i just wanted to share that since you said pollys family problems ruin the wish fulfillment

@@pockyrinny7224Yep. The movie doesn't delve too deep into anything, but it definitely touches on the subject. By the end after Polly and The Pockets performance, she lets her dad know that him, her butler, and her friends are all the family she needs. That another woman or "mother figure" isn't really necessary. I believe she even told her butler that he's a sort of mother figure for her.

Oh man, I remember when the 00s ones came out. I was going to a weird rich kid school that year (I got a scholarship, it was horrible) and I walked up to these three girls that were playing with them before they'd been released. I asked if I could play with them, and they asked me if my dad made toys too. I said my dad was dead, and they told me I couldn't play with them.
Turns out they were the popular girls, and I got mocked for having a dead dad and later, not having a horse.

That's what kicks off the girls going to the auntie's place in Hausu. as a Brazilian who grew up around the 2010's I can confirm everyone was OBSESSED with Polly. tbh i didn't even know there were polly movies and a cartoon until recently, since what rlly was popular were the dolls and the playsets. I think the main point was to built a Polly city with each house/store having a doll, there were also a lot of playsets that you could glue to your wall and fun cars and boats. no one rlly cared about the dolls themselves, they were mostly seen as an accessory to the sets that you could style, but the clothes were pretty cute and I loved chewing on them lol. nowadays it's not very popular with kids anymore and the newer generation toys aren't that easy to find, but back in the day it was such a big thing that even boys liked to play with the less pink colored toys. I remember that my friends and I would bring our polly stuff to each others houses after school so we could make a little polly town, it was rlly fun

Honestly I really liked Pollyworld because of the depressing aspects. I felt a lot more connected to Polly. I always loved her but there was definitely a gap, especially being in a family that couldn't afford much. Seeing her have strained relationships with family / family-adjacent characters really had me relating to her in a way I never did before. I won't get into too many details, but basically my mother was absent for the large majority of my childhood. While the conditions for that between my own experiences and Polly's is very different, it still made me feel seen. I never really saw media with that sort of parental relationship before and it made me feel even just a tiny bit more normal. Looking back from an adult perspective, I think it's a bit silly that it meant so much to me because, again, my experience is barely even comparable if I go into anything more than I already have, but as a kid it was enough.

I recently dug all of my old Fashion Polly dolls out of a storage unit that had been sitting in my back yard in the middle of the desert for 10+ years. Temperatures inside probably reach over 120 degrees in the summer. There was absolutely no damage to any of the dolls or the rubbery clothes aside from becoming slightly malformed after years of being stuck together in a huge lump. These are my most cherished toys from my childhood, and after seeing the damage shown in this video, it just makes me appreciate them even more. 🥰

Probably for the same reason.

This was such a nostalgia hit, Polly Pocket was my GIRL back then the main song (and the My Scene theme song) was seared into my brain. Unfortunately I didn’t know the movies existed at all, I mostly just played the games.
I can attest that Shani was such a outlier, they often lightened her skin to the point that I didn’t even know she was black and her hair was hardly ever textured on the website.
As for the movie I like to think that John Pocket is also a Nepo baby and the Pocket Family empire stretches back generations, most the things they own is less of passion project and just family inheritance.

The rest were mostly Pollys, Lilas, Leas, Anas/Chrissys, a girl named Kayla from Japan, Polly's British cousin Pia bundled with the Pocket Plaza movie, and I think one Kerstie from the Designables Music Shop. I remember setting up my Pool Party and Designer Mall playsets in the playroom, and both sets got faded because I let them sit in front of the window where the sun shown in. I have POTS too and this spring going into summer has been awful. I have to lie down a lot like that but dang getting dressed and prepared for this video while also having to focus well enough to get your points across must've been so difficult I respect you a lot for doing so much for your channel but I hope you didn't feel even more exhausted after. Please rest as much as you need to we will still be here but if you need to or want to make more videos like this we don't mind. Also your nail art is so cute! Do you do them yourself, get them done or, buy them online?
I relate to how you feel about the old Polly Pockets I'm an only child but I had an older cousin who would give me her old toys and we'd go to thrift stores and yard sales a lot so I had a lot of them. I also had some of the 00s sets in the old style my favorite was the Pollyworld set! It had a ton of rides that actually moved and it came with 3 characters 2 were polly in different outfits and one was a girl with brown hair. I also had the fashion doll polly pockets but I was not a big fan of the plastic clothes ones I liked the magnet ones(which were more dangerous than the tiny polly pockets because of the tiny magnets that could fall off so I was only allowed to play with them with an adult or older teenager watching me before I was a "big kid" even before they started getting recalled my parents were very worried about magnet toys after the news stories but allowed me to have it anyway) but I preferred the tiny polly pockets. Out of the magnet sets my favorite was the pink limo. Seeing that picture of Lucy with the tiny polly in her shirt brought back memories I didn't know I had I don't know if i ever had a Lucy doll specifically but I liked to pretend Polly was a literal doll for my Barbie dolls especially the kid ones and I'd have them carry her around in tiny bags or in clothes if they had pockets.
When I got older because I was an only child and all my cousins were my age, way too young for it to be safe or, much older we gave them away to younger kids we knew in our neighborhood who I knew would love them and be safe with them or donated them to the thrift stores so someone else could use them. I wish I could've kept some of them but I like to imagine that they still exist somewhere either still being passed down to kids today or on some collector's shelf if they're still in good enough condition.
Sorry for the long comment I just love Polly Pocket so I'm glad I get to share my thoughts and memories about them somewhere finally lol

    • @bekahchu4102
      @bekahchu4102 Рік тому +8

Oh also to be clear once they were recalled we did NOT give the magnetic parts of toys to kids or donated them my parents knew they could trust me because of how careful I was with my toys and we used colored rubber bands that matched the clothes or colorless ones to hold the clothes together after my mom removed and carefully threw away the magnets once I outgrew them we threw them out because my parents rightfully thought giving them to someone else would be a bad idea.

8:13 The way she immediately showed distain for the Polly Pocket clothes sums up my experiences in a nutshell. From age three to five, I had the biggest struggles with putting the clothes onto the dolls. That's why most of my Polly Pocket doll clothes ended up with missing sleeves. I think they just wanted to make it impossible for four-year-olds to get the dolls into the outfits. At least with the Disney Princess Polly Pocket-like dolls, they had complex dresses that were hard to slip the dolls into.
11:54 I actually have (or had) that set! But eventually, the doors got detatched from the car and got scattered.
Yeah, I think I only had one Polly Pocket doll that had dark skin.

hi li! i grew up with both 2000s and 2010s polly so here's some of my insight on what the rebrand of polly was like! sorry if this is long
    1) i remember a lot about the ''pocket'' dimensions the cutants came from. one had a water theme where they became mermaids, one was desserts themed and the third was where they would put on any kind of performance. all 7 of the characters were in a band at the launch of the series so it was nice to see that element of polly in both generations i grew up with.
    2) the amount of LINEUP CHANGES it had. 2010 polly at first had about 7 whole characters ( two who had very similar names, chrissy and kerstie, which was annoying ) but as time went on first kerstie then 2 or 3 more characters just disappeared from both the webisodes and merchandise and we got no explanation. there was always slight changes to the design and animation too but even after the first lineup change i was tired
    3) POLLYS. PERSONALITY. maybe this changed in the later webisodes and hell even in the current polly generation. but 2010s polly was just such a bad friend. she was overly competitive and at times very shallow, at times, it didn't feel like they were even a friend group or liked each other. polly was constantly blinded by winning whatever contest the episode was about and it was such a harsh contrast to 2000s polly who was sweet and just a great friend to everyone.
    4) i really didn't like the new website layout much myself but i feel the new art style fit the flash games more than it did the webisodes, especially the CGI ones. the games were fine but i always enjoyed the 2000s ones more. to me, after some time polly started feeling more like a flash games mascot rather than a character.
    5) the toys had so many face changes but i think the first wave was the best in terms of quality both in clothes and durability. other dolls heads would pop off so it would be easier to swap outfits i guess but it still made them easier to break. and sadly there weren't any cool sets despite the literal DIMENSIONS the girls would go to. singular character packs were much more popular and it made me miss the pollyworld and limo toys from the previous era.
so that's my little view on polly 2010 edition, i think with the different locations and concept of cutants they could've turned polly into a neat virtual world kinda like barbie girls. especially with how popular the games were even to people who didn't like polly :)

The only difference is that I didn't get to actually meet my new step-mom until the wedding ceremony. Literally first time meeting her in person was when she was in her wedding dress. I was an adult during this so it's not as bad as if I was a child but like... yikessss lolololol

you mentioning the cutants sent me BACK.
I never owned them, but I have always been a sucker for intresting character design. I remember going through the polly pocket website and reading about every single cutant that came out, i was obsessed with these weird little food/animal/object things, they were basically yassified pokemon to me. Plus these things came with polly pockets dressed up to look like the cutant which i loved. I VIVIDLY remember a fan made halloween cutant that won an event run on the polly pocket website?? I might be wrong but I was so obsessed with it as a kid

A core memory was just unlocked for me. I adore Pollyworld! I know that I jammed something in my Pollyworld theme park set so that the elevator didn't work. I did that a lot as a kid where I'd ruin all movement-based functionality of a toy by cramming something small, like a random piece of plastic, into any opening.

Omg this is the first time you’ve showcased a game I actually played CONSTANTLY, I don’t know why but I was obsessed with Rock Star Makeover. I’m so sure it was the only way I engaged with Polly Pocket. I preferred other dolls completely so I never had her as an actual toy and I didn’t even know the movie existed.

    (50:52)
As a Brazilian viewer born after 2007, the 2010 site and dolls made my whole childhood 😭
I had a CD of Lunar Eclipse, and watched it almost every night. There wasn't a second of this video that didn't bring me the feeling of being a child again.
I searched for old Polly Pocket games, and it unlocked so many good memories!! Hair Stylin' Salon, Pet Pals, Party Pickup (HOLY SHIT), Balloon Burst Races, Pet Adoption Party Time, I loved each one of them back in the days, even if I didn't even know what those English words meant.
Nowadays, even though life's got different, the little girl playing alone with Polly Pocket dolls still exists.

POTS runs in my family, and I felt a bit of a thrill when I heard you mention it. I know it sucks and gets in the way of things, but it's so cool you managed to do this video the way you did and I feel some distinct parasocial kinship as a result.

Clicked on this because the title fascinated me, but as someone with POTS, was immediately delighted to see someone with my same condition putting their comfort and safety first.

I was shopping at the goodwill bins the other day and I found 15 compact pollies, with the characters still inside and everything! My favorite is the carnival compact. I only ever grew up with fashion pollies, I had no idea about the sets until I was an adult. They were like $3 in total 😭 I’m obsessed with them now
(Also did anyone else have the extreme intrusive thought to chew on Polly pocket fashion clothes as a kid)

While Im glad you spoke about POTS (as someone who has it or something that mimics the symptoms, it definitely needs to be talked about and more well known) but also I can honestly say if you hadn't said anything I think most of us would assume you did it as a stylistic choice and it doesn't detract from or distract from the video really. If you want to film this way in the future and it's more comfortable for you I support it honestly.
