It's so crazy that even though there's so many people around the world, many different cultures... Yet we managed to have the same online experience rich with niche games like these! The nostalgia is making me so giggly, thank you for the video!!! This was my childhood!!!
Speaking of those old dress up games, Doll Divine currently has the old RinMaru dressups available! I thought they were completely lost, so many silly childhood OCs were made with that particular site
Fun fact (which is just a lengthy story lol): those games are a part of what made me grow up to be as patient as I am today. When I was a wee lass playing them on my family PC, I had to start over from scratch *every single time* I opened the browser. It was set up to automatically wipe the history and cookies clean on closing, so I could never save my progress. There was an option to make an account that would allow me to escape the limbo of playing day 1 over and over again, but it required an email. I didn't have my own since I was a kid, and my mom didn't want to deal with spam emails, so she didn't let me use her address, either. I think I must have played that game series (as well as the Evie games!) like that for *months,* maybe even a year or two. I eventually rebelled and made my own email just so I could finally save my progress, but the experience of starting from scratch over and over again had definitely rewired my brain on some level. Whenever people compliment me for being so patient, I silently thank the Shopaholic and Evie games and the browser on my family PC for everything they've put me through. It was definitely an experience.
That's so interesting! I've never heard anybody else express this sentiment before, but I had the same experience waiting for the dial up internet to load on my OG family PC.
this reminds me of my first pokemon experience: i skipped reading the part that told me how to save, bc i was an excited kid and spend 3 months replaying the first 2-4 hours (i got smart enough to not let my ds die at some point, but those 15 hours got lost bc my dad turned it off at some point lol)
Even when I was able to get an email verified for an account for a variety of old games, I always forgot my password and just went straight back into limbo. I probably have dozens of lost accounts.
We had a PS2 with no save card and PS1 games, if I ever wanted to see the end of a game it would have to be in one long marathon, akin to a movie night.
npc interactions could be so cute, you could become friends with the shop clerks and they could teach you some fashion tips or give you lessons in fashion history, some fun neat stuff like that
Or they can be the bragging type, and challenge you to impress them by dressing better with their style of choices. And winning the challenge, the NPC would unlock a location where killer discounts on special clothes are on. Sky's the limits, these games have massive potential.
Fun fact: Smet was a real clothing brand created by Christian Audigier (the same designer who created Ed Hardy)! I thrifted a shirt by them recently which is how I learned of the brands existence lol. The Smet shirt design shown in the game has the same font as the real Smet’s brand logo as well!
recently learned that the brand is actually called smet because it was a collaboration (?) with french musician johny hallyday who's real first or last name is apparently smet or something of that manner. just thought it's a fun fact to share lol
shopaholic paris is so nostalgic for me cause i used to play it all day, everyday. there was a glitch in the game that if u go from street to wardrobe a certain amount of times money would randomly get added to ur purse. so i could just play infinitely!
Those quiz games were a source of constant fights between me and my sister, ESPECIALLY PROFESSOR PURSE. Because you see, once you complete the quiz you can't play again until the next day right? But there were two of us and only one computer (and we didn't know about incognito tabs) so that meant only one of us got to play the quizzes each day, and we both wanted to play every day! Eventually, after many many fights, I discovered that if you can find the same game in a different website then you can play the quizzes once a day per website, and that really improved our relationship lmao
I'm so glad you mentioned the inappropriate comment sections on some games !! I was an avid ggg user and loved Shopaholics but the Shopaholics comment section specifically, sent me down a rabbit hole and introduced me to 100s of male user's profiles that would add you and attempt to role play with you in explicit ways by posting publically on your timeline. Their profile pictures would be popular kissing or wedding games that had a male character and they'd crop onto the boys face so they all had the same bunch of profile pictures as there weren't many male characters featured on the site. Sooo many of these profiles stated they were adult men 🤢🤮 I have yet to see/hear someone even briefly mention the shadey comment sections so your one comment validated my childhood experience, thank you 🥺❤️
omg i’m pretty lucky i was a little too old for that era. unless i just never saw the comments. either way i’m lucky i didn’t see those :,) it would’ve ruined my childhood lol
"Most importantly, 0 gendered clothing restriction. Looking at you, Fashion Dreamer." Li, You are so real for this! I've been pained the moment I saw the select your muse type option in the game, because I knew it's going to be one of those gender-based dress-up games. Still, at least the color palettes made me forgive the game after a week.
Every time I played dress up games I pretended to be a personal fashion assistant, so a dream game for me would be one where you meet clients, build a relationship with them, follow their story lines, with some romanceable options. You get paid for their appointments which then lets you buy more things. A fashionista simulator. Please someone take my money and make it happen. I don't think game developers realize that us retro-fashion-games-lovers are now adults with adult money to spend 💅 Thank you for this video! So glad I found you.
Hi, what you're describing reminds me of the games Style Savvy/New Style Boutique! I'm playing New style boutique 3 (it has multiple names, i dont even know which one to use😭), i haven't played the others so idk anything about them but im guessing it goes the same : you're the owner of a clothing boutique and you have to suggest an outfit to your client based on a lot of stuff (their budget, style, the color, pattern, what type of article they want or even whole outfits). You gain money so you can buy more clothes (for the boutique & for you), furniture, food, hair, makeup. Places around the city get unlocked, you meet ppl, go to events, create outfits for celebrities. About clients, you become closer to them as they come to your boutique and there are story lines. The boring part is that it's mostly ppl talking to you (you can say one sassy line from time to time or make choices for them) & the fun stuff only happens to them😅 (BUT you definitely play the role of their personal assistant!!)
Only just started but you're 100% correct about the sims, 4 might have made build/buy mode and making sims' faces more intuitive but I can no longer make outfits any color I want or change a dress into bricks or sequins and I'll never forgive EA for this loss
YESS I was just malding the other day about the loss of create-a-style. I had a house in TS3 where all my furniture was neon pink zebra patterned and my sims looked like they just stumbled out of hot topic circa 2007 (or at least. As close to that as I could make them without CC, being a console player)
LIstening to Li talking about dress-up at the start not only had me nodding in agreement but also made me so curious if she's aware of Love Nikki Dress-Up Queen, aka the best dress-up game on the mobile market by a mile, and the Love Nikki franchise as a whole.
Grain of salt because i haven’t played this game in YEARS but Love Nikki would honestly be perfect (give or take a few mobile-gameisms) if it wasn’t for the frankly insane amount of racism in the later sections of the game
@@MOMR-dk8lp and the war. Don't forget the actual war and death! That soured the game for me, I wanted fashion battles, not actual duels to the death 💀
I would DIE if you covered the old Build a bear website. I used to spend so long in there. My favorite parts were clocking in to my job at the coffee shop or failing to roast marshmallows by the camp fire. It was such a big map: it always felt like there was never enough time in my allotted one hour of screen time to do everything
The Style Savvy fans have been asking for most of the aspects of your dream game for years. 😭 We were hoping Fashion Dreamer would at least be a step in the right direction. While it was in the case of finally allowing for more men's fashion, adding more curly hairstyles, and even makeup for both avatar types, clothing being gender-locked was a disappointment, though not an unexpected choice.
I REMEMBER THESE GAMES SO WELL. Back when I was a kid I used to play these on a dusty computer in my Russian caretaker's home. I didn't know English at the time, so I just went along with the game in utter joy of all of the flashy outfits. My favorite was the Paris one XD
As an older/peak millennial, I've never played any of the games, owned any of the toys, or watched any of the shows you talk about, but this channel has officially become my new favorite source of "oddly comforting video essays to put on in the background while doing something else".
As someone who literally got a degree in game development and took a course by who is essentially the father of the Dark Pattern classifications, hearing you go over how these games fit within those was super exciting. You did a great job analyzing all of these imo!! I always love your videos, but this was like an extra gem on the bling bling earrings for me :)
The Rio one releasing in 2015 makes me believe it's probably a tie-in to the _2016_ Olympics, which like. Was kinda jumping the gun a bit, but only by a year.
i think i really loved these games because i had next to nothing growing up. i saved magazines from justice just to stare at them for hours on end. i loved anything girly but never indulged due to being afraid of being “basic” along with not having any money to dress or play with what i liked. i loved the shopaholic games because i could be this pretty girly girl without worrying about money or judgement. it’s really funny to think back and realize i was LARPING as a rich pretty model when in reality i was 7 playing on a cat piss soaked bulky family computer surrounded by creaky floors, arguing parents, gunshot sounds, and sleep for dinner. it was a nice escape to have for the time being! i miss these games!
For some reason, the shopaholic games are the corest memories I have of girls go games (juegos de chicas in Spanish). I remember being FURIOUS at Aries for always being the first zodiac sign that appeared in the New Game screen. Me as Pisces I was always last. This thought of aries being so “self-centered” got stuck with me and Aries are still my least favourite zodiac sign. At some point of life, because of these games I got them mixed up with libras. It’s so funny to me that you have posted about this because I have literally talked about this game and my beef with Aries to my girlfriends TODAY.
The games I remember most viscerally were one where you mix ingredients to get a lipstick and try kissing a frog, and a puzzle game in a horse stable where you try to help the horse escape? I specifically remember a furnace room where you have to move a box of kittens and a horseshoe over the front door you would click to change the direction it faced.
I actually remember playing the beach game back in elementary. There’s something you missed though, there was an npc that would come up to you and ask to take photos of you which gave a LOT of money. I think you’d get the option to save the photo and see it, but I can’t fully remember.
I was born in the latter half of the 2010s, the so the later games were the ones I played most, and oh my god the party mechanic used to make me *so* upset. I just wanted to buy the pretty dresses to dress up, but I had to spend all my allowance on whatever the trend was so I could unlock certain items. Didn’t help that, being a small child, I didn’t understand the daily allowance, I thought you just started the game with a stipend of money and then had to manage it well enough to not run out (which I always did). I literally never checked back the next day lmao
Your dream shopaholic game sounds SO MUCH like the style savvy series!! No allowance or diverse body types tho. (I've only played styling star so I'm mostly only describing that) You earn your money by styling outfits for your clients and each shop (all with a different style) opens up the more clients you style. There's a huge range of styles too since it was originally Japanese, lots of lolita, gyaru and decora, as well as some emo, punk, and basic stuff. It gets a tad limiting when styling the clients as they usually have specific requests but you can dress your avatar as frequently and freely as you want! After getting close to clients, you can even dress them up freely any time! You can also customise their makeup, hair and nails and occasionally it gives you the opportunity to style some of they guys too (altho it's a bit more limited than the gals). There are aome clients that have a really cute and fleshed out story you can follow too. I adore the game and really wish it would have a new installment with more diverse body types and a bit more freedom when styling the clients, but as it is now, i think you'll really love it!
AHHHH IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!! the shopaholic games to a fashion obsessed 6yr old were a goldmine of endless entertainment and fun, esp after school. I’d hop on my mum’s 2006 HP laptop, boot up GGG, and immediately navigate to the shopaholic tab. I was so destroyed when flash disappeared because my main worry was never being able to play any Shopaholic game ever again 💔 I make sure to mention the shopaholic games in every conversation surrounding flash games, forcing people to remember it’s legacy forever 🛍️💖
The Cartoon Doll Emporium community was my addiction when it comes to dress up games. There were wars faught over some of the dress up items and the currency got crazy inflated but it was SO much fun! I miss that site and that community even more than I miss Barbie Girls World.
Even before you explained the outsourcing games to China, I was thinking that the Christmas Goblin might have come from some translation mess-up for Santa's elves.
I got confused when you mentioned advertisements didn't apply because I swore there was a way to earn more money that had me dodging ads... After some research, it turns out I remembered clicking on a street billboard which advertised the other Shopaholic games. Clicking on it would send you to the Shopaholic game pictured, which due to the nature of GGG would play an ad before the game loaded, and reward you with $20 in the original Shopaholic you were playing. I don't think it counts as the "advertisements" category, but I'll mention it anyways. I sunk a lot of time into Shopaholic London when I was younger and it's interesting to look back on it. Great video as always!
oh my god i use to play shopaholic paris every day for HOURS but couldnt for the life of me remember the name. the thumbnail was like a shock to my system LOL
A new "new style boutique" with more sizes inclusion, a few minigames and allowing use any kind of clothes regards gender would basically fit all requirements for your game, actually new style boutique is the closest to the shopaholic games out there (without taking in account apps because those always have the most pay2win mechanics)
My favorite shopaholic was models, and part of it was seeing a world with only women, doing only "femenine" things As a survivor of sexual abuse, it made me really happy to be able to just be a girl, doing "girly" things without any problem and seeing other cute girls just walking around It helped me cope and heal, in a way, so I remember it as a perfect game, even the job thing was lovable for little me I was able to heal, but I still feel very warm whenever I see it, and I was so sad when I couldn't log again.. I'm happy that now I'm able to play it again, I have something to do today now! ❤❤ Loved this video, girly, thank you
the way you have put into words what I have been feelimg for so long we need more triple A dress up games (even 1 would work tbh😭😭) like the genre's peak can't be browser and ds games, it has to go onn!!!
Omg the nostalgia! Randomly made me think of this Rapunzel game on girlsgogames, where u picked different potion ingredients and performed tasks well or badly and that would culminate in a haistyle in the end. It was so fun for me to collect all haha
This has to be my fav video of yours! The editing was perfect, "smet" and the "myscene bling bling" bits killed me😂. Shopaholics will forever have a place in ny heart😂
Shopaholic was my favourite game when I was a kid around 5-10 y/o and when Im telling you I COULDN'T FIND IT FOR CENTURIES! When I found it again in some old ass game website, I realized that it's still my fave game of all time (and trust me I've played everything from flash games, to hardcore shooters, to mmorpg's, to horror games). There's something so relaxing and aesthetically appealing when shopping vitrually, especially when it comes to cute clothing! Too bad my favourites from the series are no longer available :(
speaking of quizzes, there was this one game where you were choosing from two pictures and it showed you the type of "monster" you are?? like fairy, druid, vampire and then you'll get additional clothing/accessories and you could dress up your doll 😭 I totally forgot the name but I played it everyday
The unmoderated commenting on games/each other's profiles was so wild, I used to see this "girl" around who claimed to work in a circus that has a REAL unicorn and invited people to come see it. At one point, she posted her password because she said she was giving up her acc, so I logged in (and also tried all of her alts that I knew of) and changed it to lock her out, hoping that'd help. I was around 14 - 15 and worried about the smaller kids, but there was nothing I could think of to do about this acc until she posted the password. There was no adult on ggg I could have talked to, I don't even remember if there was a reporting function.
Just watched this whole video while on a Wayback Machine deep dive through CartoonDollEmporium, playing the games I remember from 2006 onward- so much fun, I didn’t expect them to have been mostly archived but they are!
Note to anyone who remembered the site because of me and wanted to go back to play- the sweet spot of games being archived seemed to be pre-September of 2006, after that the games loose their click-and-drag functionality 😭
I've tried to get into fashion games but all the ones I tried were very grindy, like, you had to constantly be repeating levels to get new outfits (love nikki, alice's closet, you know those ones) but the other day I got an ad for a virtual pet game? and I said "oh this is cute, let me check" and turns out the most involved part of it is dressing up your avatar? and getting the currency is just by completing missions or watering your friend's trees? (of course there's microtransactions) and you can gift or sell your repeated decoration/outfits item so it really reminds me of old school games like tinierme, very cute, it's named livly island
Ngl, I had this in the background while I cleaned my kitchen, mind went, "What would it take for me to make a really good dress-up game that would make Li Speaks excited to play? What aspects would make folks want to keep coming back to play without getting TOO addicted to it? How could the game I make cause a positive influence/ripple effect in the lives of those that play it?" And then my mind kept rattling off more questions that I can't keep track of, but maybe I'll rewatch this video later and write them down while taking notes. Who knows, maybe there'll be a new game for Li to review in the (far) future. Nonetheless, thank you for both the video and the inspiration! 💙💙💙
LI POSTEDDDDD 🎉🎉🎉🎉 WE ARE MAKING IT OUT OF THE GIRLIE POP SIMULATION WITH THIS ONE EDIT: Btw I’m a game and web dev. I’m lowkey considering making a Shopaholic-inspired multiplayer game. Especially given how disappointing Fashion Dreamer was lol
Fashion Dreamer is soooo underwhelming... Especially since it was developped by the same people who made the Style Boutique/Savvy games on the DS and 3DS. Fashion Dreamer feels like it should have been the online component of a fully fledged New Style Boutique/Savvy 4. It's just not enough to be a game on its own. If you ever decide to make a game in that vein, please keep us updated here, I'd hate to miss it !
YESS ME TOO ❤️🔥💖 Oh btw i am an artist and if you are interested to see some kind of concept art or character design ping me coz i used to die for these games 💪💪
Li, I just want to thank you for all of your videos. We have very, very similar aesthetics and interests so I RUN to every upload. Hope you’re having an amazing day!
I don’t know if you played Pixie Hollow or if you’ve made a video on it all ready, but I’d love if you made a video on it! The dress up/ making clothes part of the game was my favorite part as a kid.
bro i was always trying to remember this game series on ggg this was the one. i played this for hours, in every version i loved it so much. BRING BACK SHOPAHOLICCCC.
Do people not know about the successor of Doll Divine that allows people to make detailed dress up games using the layers in digital art programs? They are hosted online and work without flash.
Have you ever considered doing a video on Bonnie Games? It was similar to GirlsGoGames, but the art direction was more anime-inspired. There were dress-up games and minigames. The art for the dress-up games were absolutely gorgeous. They actually inspired me to get into art.
I only played Shopaholic Paris as a kid and got upset I could buy like 4 things only lmao. I actually really like the idea of dress up games and fake money to have a fun time instead of using real money. You have more freedom and you aren’t spending real life money. People mass buy clothing they really don’t need and that has an endless amount of problems in it. I Personally now as an adult love Shopaholic Hollywood, Beach Models & Wedding Models. I actually like the party grind mechanism, I love almost completing the game and having every item. It’s not a quick thing it’s a every week or so I go back and set the date and calendar to earn a bit more money. It does feel satisfying to get an item when it was out of stock tbh. Using the unlimited money if you set the date and time to much takes the fun out of it a bit. The Hollywood & Wedding models has unlimited closet space! As it should tbh. I love leveling up and getting to unlock shops as it feels rewarding! NuMuKi has almost all of the shopaholic games and play much better. Though flashpoint is much better for Beach Models & Wedding Models. I dislike the limited amount of shops in many of them and so much being sold out you can’t go to a party. But just set the date a day forward and you have a different event to go to! For sure it can be glitchy with some of them but I still love these games! I play them a lot and glad I have rediscovered them. The “shopaholic” name definitely made me not want to play these games as a kid, as I thought it would influence you to be a shopaholic, which it can be. It depends on you as a person and your child development.
Did I manifest this?!?! I never commented anything, but I always thought this series would be perfect for your channel :D hoping it's a delightful watch
Regarding copycat games, I definitely see a LOT of similarity between Shopaholic and mobile dressup games like Love Nikki, Helix Waltz (RIP), and Life Makeover. Especially the party mechanic, because boy, "this outfit is absolutely hideous but it scores enough points in arbitrary categories to win the level" is a huge mechanic of those games, lol.
Seriously, this was my favourite GGG game series! I think Shopaholic Hollywood was the peak, of course I agree parties could be annoying because at first you are forced to buy stuff that maybe you don't want, but after a few purchases, parties repeat themes so you can just wear clothes you already have and save money for the things you actually want. I love everytihng about Hollywood, the clothes look so cute and is the first game to introduce that inside look of the store rather showing us just a screen with a bunch of square with the items and of course, the night ambience! So, so cute. PD: I remember a game from GGG that I think nobody remembers, it was pretty much Dinner dash style, but the game starts with a mini-comic explaining us that our main character is a girl that feels insecure about her overall looks after watching models on TV, so she gets a waitress job to save money for plastic surgery and comestics, every level you earn money that you can spend going to the surgeon or stylist until you get all the procedures done (such as liposuction or going to the gym, I don't remember, nose job, lip injections, make-up, etc) and win all the levels in order to complete the game, unlocking a male character that also aims for fitting in beauty standandars. The story was pretty weird and controversial I guess, of course there's some game that aren't meant to teach children good morals, but I think is weird to not find someone that rememberse that game.
I LOVED these games as a kid OMG!!! Have you ever played/looked into the Personal Shopper games?? They're seek and finds but you play as a professional shopper for rich clients and I loved it so much because I remember there being lore/a through line or something like that? Like I remember in one game, you're buying stuff for this man and you get stuff for his business, his wedding, all the way up to shopping for his nursery 😂❤️
DollDivine my beloved 😭 I never played any of these, being older than the target audience, but I love your walkthroughs and heck, I'd play your ideal imaginary Shopaholic game too!
Yessss another comfort video from one of my favorite youtubers! Now I can add this to the binge watching of your videos I’ve been doing repeatedly recently. Not sure why I keep watching them over and over but they bring me comfort and joy so I will not stop.
i had the app back then on my parents ipad and i absolutely ADORED this game! i played it to the point i had every item i could get and spent so much time on making outfits!
I loved the shopaholic games so much. I remember playing the one set in Hawaii all the time. Not enough to check in daily though. Also to add on to your dream shopaholic game, you could include a clothing design feature like animal crossing where you have account and clothing codes to share outfit ideas with other players.
I love how you went into the deeper "darker" side of this. It's fun and all to revisit these games but I really appreciate you also going over shopping and gaming addiction.
i saw the thumbnail and my heart SANK because it’s been so long since i thought about this game and all the memories came rushing back what the hell 😢😢🥹😭😭😭😭 clicked immediately
i remember playing these as a kid, but instead of just playing one, i'd open all of them in different tabs and move to the next once i ran out of money.
It's funny how much I love your videos despite them being so very unrelatable to my own childhood - I was a tomboy who dodged girly games and found dress-up games deathly boring, but your genuine love and excitement for all those old, lost girly gems is absolutely palpable and I'm excited whenever you post something new. I learn a lot about a whole online world I never cared to touch and it's a joy ♥
I can't quite put my finger on an exact reason, but something about your demeanor while you speak is very soothing. Pair that with the longer length of your videos and it is the perfect equation for quieting the constant noise of severe anxiety/depression that aggressively plays on loop inside of my broken brain. This makes it a little easier for me to relax enough for sleep during those really intense nights of insomnia. I especially love the videos you release where you describe every episode of a specific show or cartoon movies based on popular toy franchises. To date, your Horseland and Cartoon Network holiday special videos are my favorites! I would really love to see more content like those, but honestly I enjoy all of your videos regardless of the subject. Thank you for creating this channel and for all of your carefully crafted content! I find myself returning time and time again to help soothe my damaged headspace when the self-torment has become overwhelming for me. ~Take it easy, Li, and much love! From Jasmine Rae

shopaholic paris is so nostalgic for me cause i used to play it all day, everyday. there was a glitch in the game that if u go from street to wardrobe a certain amount of times money would randomly get added to ur purse. so i could just play infinitely!
YES OMG
I thought this is what she meant when she said she'd talk about cheating money😭
this cheat made shopaholic paris (and also the christmas version) my fav!!
OMG so we're all living the same life??? I used to go through the exact same thing!!!!
Sooo many of these profiles stated they were adult men 🤢🤮
I have yet to see/hear someone even briefly mention the shadey comment sections so your one comment validated my childhood experience, thank you 🥺❤️
Ew
god 💀 i met a man on there i "dated" for a few years as a ten yr old he got me onto another site and i was basically groomed for yrs it was horrible
Omg I did not know that😭 that's gross
I'm sorry you had to go through that. :( Hug.
omg i’m pretty lucky i was a little too old for that era. unless i just never saw the comments. either way i’m lucky i didn’t see those :,) it would’ve ruined my childhood lol
Shopaholic Paris and Holiday had a chokehold on me during my last few months on GirlsGoGames, I loved their outfits so much

"Most importantly, 0 gendered clothing restriction. Looking at you, Fashion Dreamer." Li, You are so real for this! I've been pained the moment I saw the select your muse type option in the game, because I knew it's going to be one of those gender-based dress-up games. Still, at least the color palettes made me forgive the game after a week.
im crying at O'eurb 12:06
"This where whe hearta is" 😂 I'm scream laughing so hard. Also "smet" in bulgarian is a synonym for trash
in Slovenian it literally means "one trash" !
It Dutch it's an uncommon word for a blemish or a flaw, but more commonly seen as part of the word 'besmet' meaning 'infected'.
In Swedish “smet” means “batter”

Every time I played dress up games I pretended to be a personal fashion assistant, so a dream game for me would be one where you meet clients, build a relationship with them, follow their story lines, with some romanceable options. You get paid for their appointments which then lets you buy more things. A fashionista simulator. Please someone take my money and make it happen. I don't think game developers realize that us retro-fashion-games-lovers are now adults with adult money to spend 💅
Thank you for this video!
Ohhh love nikki is wild, i tend to play obssesively every few months and every time the lore gets wilder and wilder lmao
Grain of salt because i haven’t played this game in YEARS but Love Nikki would honestly be perfect (give or take a few mobile-gameisms) if it wasn’t for the frankly insane amount of racism in the later sections of the game
@@rininaomg fellow homestuckie and love nikki fan???
@@MOMR-dk8lp gonna adopt "mobile gameisms" into my vocabulary
@@MOMR-dk8lp and the war. Don't forget the actual war and death! That soured the game for me, I wanted fashion battles, not actual duels to the death 💀
I love that your described ideal Shopaholic game is like Persona but with character customization and no combat lol
Basically a social/life sim with a focus on fashion. I like it as a concept
BRO SHE ALREADY DID CHECK HER CHANNEL
@@machinegunlamentshe did the flash games, but did she do the actual online world of Bearville?
@maddieadaddy i think shes actually working on it!
I WAS ADDICTED TO THESE GAMES when I was a kid playing girls go games on supervised for hours on end. I'm glad I'm not the only person who remembers
OMG IF YOU EVER GET AROUND TO IT I AM BEGGING YOU TO COVER WINX CLUB, THE DOLLS AND SHOW ARE SO ICONIC
You should developt a better shopaholic game 🤓☝️
Pls make dress up games like these 😭
The Rio one releasing in 2015 makes me believe it's probably a tie-in to the _2016_ Olympics, which like.
As a capricorn I also despise Ares for its first spot in so many things aswell
damn so i havent had ONE original experience (being also a spanish speaker, aries and playing juegos de chicos ajajsj)

The games I remember most viscerally were one where you mix ingredients to get a lipstick and try kissing a frog, and a puzzle game in a horse stable where you try to help the horse escape? I specifically remember a furnace room where you have to move a box of kittens and a horseshoe over the front door you would click to change the direction it faced.
omgI think i remember that horse game!! I could never figure out the furnace puzzle lol
Omg I remember the frog one too! Maybe it was an Avata Star Sue one
I remember the lipstick and frog kissing game! I can’t remember what it was called but I think there was a sequel.
I REMEMBER THE HORSE GAME WOAHHH
I think they were called frogtastic? There was two of them, not a Sue game. But may have been ibravo? Though I don't think it was
I miss old school GGG. I wasn’t big on the shopalohic games but I LOVED the dress up and makeover games. I loved to make them look like my ocs.
I actually remember playing the beach game back in elementary. There’s something you missed though, there was an npc that would come up to you and ask to take photos of you which gave a LOT of money. I think you’d get the option to save the photo and see it, but I can’t fully remember.
i was drawing while watching this and my head snapped up at the end when you said my name lol
another excellent piece of internet journalism
Final Fantasy XIV is my favorite Dress up game and I'm not even kidding
same lmao. i do more dressing up and customizing my avatar than playing the actual game.
You can still play some on the Y8 browser 😭 I still play shopaholic hollywood religiously on there as well as other game's
The Cartoon Doll Emporium community was my addiction when it comes to dress up games. There were wars faught over some of the dress up items and the currency got crazy inflated but it was SO much fun! I miss that site and that community even more than I miss Barbie Girls World.
her bangs look SO. good oh my goodness they're like placed and curled perfectly so cute
Even before you explained the outsourcing games to China, I was thinking that the Christmas Goblin might have come from some translation mess-up for Santa's elves.
I was literally just thinking about these games the other day, I was obsessed with shopaholic new york 😭
Same, I remember this!
oh my god i use to play shopaholic paris every day for HOURS but couldnt for the life of me remember the name. the thumbnail was like a shock to my system LOL
You like my "I dom't do lines" shirt? Thanks! I got it at O'eurb.
A new "new style boutique" with more sizes inclusion, a few minigames and allowing use any kind of clothes regards gender would basically fit all requirements for your game, actually new style boutique is the closest to the shopaholic games out there (without taking in account apps because those always have the most pay2win mechanics)
My favorite shopaholic was models, and part of it was seeing a world with only women, doing only "femenine" things
As a survivor of sexual abuse, it made me really happy to be able to just be a girl, doing "girly" things without any problem and seeing other cute girls just walking around
It helped me cope and heal, in a way, so I remember it as a perfect game, even the job thing was lovable for little me
I was able to heal, but I still feel very warm whenever I see it, and I was so sad when I couldn't log again..
I'm happy that now I'm able to play it again, I have something to do today now! ❤❤
Loved this video, girly, thank you
the way you have put into words what I have been feelimg for so long we need more triple A dress up games (even 1 would work tbh😭😭) like the genre's peak can't be browser and ds games, it has to go onn!!!

Omg the nostalgia! Randomly made me think of this Rapunzel game on girlsgogames, where u picked different potion ingredients and performed tasks well or badly and that would culminate in a haistyle in the end. It was so fun for me to collect all haha
some of those bad english shirts felt like Homestarrunner bits. I love "I don't do Lines" and "Smet"

I don’t remember most of my childhood but every time I watch one of your videos it’s like an immediate shot of nostalgia
Ugh doll divine. The memories that just brought back 🥹
Just watched this whole video while on a Wayback Machine deep dive through CartoonDollEmporium, playing the games I remember from 2006 onward- so much fun, I didn’t expect them to have been mostly archived but they are!
5:55 outfits today was literally my favourite game and the music went so damn hard
The PPG parody was absolutely fantastic

EDIT: Btw I’m a game and web dev. I’m lowkey considering making a Shopaholic-inspired multiplayer game. Especially given how disappointing Fashion Dreamer was lol
The excitement is eggzilerating >:]
YESS
I think this would be fantastic. There's a severe lack of "girls" games nowadays that aren't hella predatory with the mobile game microtransactions.

"Devillish hairdresser for yuri-- i mean more hairstyles" might be the best line from li yet . shout out to yuri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we need some 💫Smet💫 inspired merch

Also to add on to your dream shopaholic game, you could include a clothing design feature like animal crossing where you have account and clothing codes to share outfit ideas with other players.
I love how you went into the deeper "darker" side of this. It's fun and all to revisit these games but I really appreciate you also going over shopping and gaming addiction.

i remember playing these as a kid, but instead of just playing one, i'd open all of them in different tabs and move to the next once i ran out of money.
I learn a lot about a whole online world I never cared to touch and it's a joy ♥
i would love a deep dive video on Jinx & minx, it was a major part of my childhood and i never really see anybody talk about it
I can't quite put my finger on an exact reason, but something about your demeanor while you speak is very soothing.
