I got the salad chopper thing for Christmas. Went out and bought all sorts of things to chip and prep to start doing this thing tomorrow. Your channel is such an inspiration to me. I am starting at 400lbs and hope to get healthy. I watch every one of your videos!

I’ve learned it’s the little changes that we make over time (and stick to) that really make the difference.😃 May your journey to health & happiness be a great one!🌺
Sometimes I use a little Vermouth instead of vinegar. I like to add fresh parsley, cilantro, chives, mint, and fresh basil from my garden, red cabbage, or some homemade Kim Chi, capers, artichoke hearts, pumpkin seeds, elderberry juice, from my local Farmers Market, pickled ginger, frozen wild blueberries, and home grown broccoli sprouts to my salad. I want to thank you both. I didn't know where to even begin learning to eat healthy. I just started watching your videos recently and your personal salad bar, and other meals are such an inspiration! I had my first jumbo salad with hummus tonight and it was delicious! I appreciate how genuine and down to earth you both are. You're honesty about struggling in the beginning is super helpful and gives me a little courage to keep taking baby steps knowing it will get easier with practice and time. Thanks for breaking things down in such a humble and understandable way and for sharing all that you've learned along the way. I've believed for a long time that diets don't last and the real answer to weight loss is learning how to eat healthy...but I didn't know where to start, but now I have an actual place to start by watching your vids. Thank you so much!
We do a similar salad daily, sans the dates, hummus, but add tomato, cauliflower as well as cooked kidney, green beans along with the garbanzo beans and some toasted chopped walnuts. Cannot live without salad every day. Fortunate to live in California with a year round vegetable garden. We use simple balsamic vinegar as the dressing. On a side note the UA-cam channel The Whole Food Plant Based Cooking Show has a series of new videos for plant based salad dressings that we have found helpful
I also eat my salad with a large spoon, it makes me feel less alone to know Jessica does too 😆 I've been taking a large salad to eat for dinner before my long commute home & it's been a game changer. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Eating a large salad before heading home is BRILLIANT! I just bought a bag of oranges for my passenger seat (no joke) because I find that I'm STARVING during my commute and it's when I'm most susceptible to stopping by the drive-through...
I made a 'bean salad' with beans, onions, peppers, cilantro, garlic, vinegar & spices. I add like a cup to my giant Krocks style salad. It wets & flavors my salad great. Pico de gallo would be amazing, too. Plain balsamic... not for me either☺
I try to eat a giant salad with a giant spoon every day too. I put mine in a Jethro Bowl. Those of you that watched the Beverly Hill Billies know what I mean by that! :P I add cauliflower, kalamata olives, and a half a cup of my three bean salad I make. I look forward to mine every day too!
Ive been bouncing from diet idea to diet idea for a few weeks now. I need to lose a lot of weight and I’m desperate. I’m off work and need to get back but more important my medical history dictates that I will be in serious trouble if I don’t get healthy. The anxiety of needing it to happen quickly has seen me lean toward the keto diet and intermittent fasting. I watched The Magic Pill on Netflix and that kind of gave me the push toward it. However I’ve been watching you guys and I just love your channel, your personalities, your recipes and the fun you guys bring to WFPB prep. Mostly though I see two people who have come from where I’m at now without faddy stuff and I can relate. I’m not doing 2 weeks of potatoes as I’d rather staple my eyelids to my ass but I am going to start WFPB thanks to you two. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure (not journey Brian! 👍🏼). I’ll update when I’m a month in. Take care x
Looks delish guys! I bought the same salad chopper bowl and dual blade cutter at the suggestion of another plant based UA-camr, about a year or 2 ago. I like to put sliced grapes or other fruits in my salads as well. I'm now gonna give banana peppers and dates a try too. Trying to find the Everything bagel spice at our TJ's. Looks like a good addition. I too tried your smoky hummus, but I guess I lean more into a tangy kind of hummus, so I just cut out the smoky stuff and blended in rice vinegar and some dill pickle relish. Love it. Also have made your chilly several times now. A total winner!! You are both delightful role models for the plant based movement. Luv ya guys!
I use a pair of clean scissors to chop my lettuce up. Works great! Definitely a game changer for people who hate salad. Most of the time it’s because we don’t like the feeling of chewing on lettuce like a rabbit. Chopping anything up super small makes it much more palatable.
Jessica, one thing I like about you is that you keep it real. I made your chili recipe and am cooking overnight in my crockpot. Y’all are an inspiration to many people. Thanks for your videos.
I guess I’m too impatient not wanting to chew salad for hours and hours. So I make my weekly salad by pulsing everything in the food processor, then place them in mason jars and eat them with a spoon. I make sure to add a bit of lemon juice to keep from turning brown. Some of my salad additions: 🥬🥒🥕🥦🍎🍋,🧅, raw beets, celery, garbanzos, cilantro, bell peppers. You both are an inspiration! Glad your back home safe. 😽

I just received the big bowl/double pizza cutter and made a chopped salad and it’s so much easier to eat a salad for me! Thanks for the tip. Also I got the under blade scraper. Makes a HUGE difference when making hummus! Thanks!
I am so glad you did this topic today! My husband and I eat our giant salads for lunch every weekday. He puts them together for us every morning and even though I remember watching your salad prep video when it came out, for some reason, I don't think of doing it. He cuts everything up every day. He's really fast at it but wouldn't it be nice if he could put it together even faster? I am definitely going to start prepping now! Thank you for the inspiration! I would be interested in how you make the banana peppers. I find that the store bought ones are too vinegary and I end up sort of choking on them so I just don't buy them. If they were milder, I'd like them... PS~ isn't red onion the best on salad!? And especially with hummus?! 👌💕
Speaking of salads Brian, I ate at Ruby Tuesday on Sunday and thought of you. Ate two containers full of artichokes, as I read somewhere that artichokes help digest fat, plus I just like them. 😇😋🌿🌱🥗🥗🥗🥗
Mine is do similar and I have been eating the same salad for lunch every day since I discovered Dr. Fuhrman in 2012. I add pomegranate arils as the sweet, no dates. My dressing is 1/4 c homemade hummus, 1-2 Tb homemade soy yogurt and a splash of balsamic vinegar. Looks good to me.
I fell out with my daily salads some time ago. The entire month of December (and half of January 😬) I’ve been trying my psych myself up to get back on it. The truth is, I have always loved a big, vibrant, crispy salad and I don’t know what happened! This has encouraged me to spend time, today, preparing ingredients so I can fall back in love with my salads. Thank you! 😘
Thank you for sharing, looking forward to trying the combo of those ingredients together for a salad. My adventure of a whole plant based food lifestyle begins this Thursday with the CrayRay Potatoes to get a jumpstart and reprogram the tastebuds. Thanks for sharing your story, tips, and delicious recipes. It’s definitely helped light a fire under my butt to do something about my health/weight. Since stumbling on your channel around Thanksgiving (thanks UA-cam Algorithms for getting one thing right for once, haha), I have been researching and getting excited. I’ll be honest though these last few days, nervousness and fear have started to creep in. It’s not that I think that this is impossible and/or it won’t work but it’s the fact that it is possible and will work to improve my health. It’s the fear of a life unknown where I’m healthier and happier. It sounds ridiculous when I write this but there it is. My entire life I have been morbidly obese, over 100 lbs in 1st grade, over 200 lbs. in 6th grade, over 300 lbs in 10th grade, and now inching closer and closer to 400 lbs. What will it like to finally be in control of my health? Sorry, didn’t mean to word vomit there, but I don’t have really anyone else to talk to and needed to share even if it’s just to the virtual void. It’s really just all to say thank you for all that you do. :)
Brian here. I know exactly what you are talking about! Seriously, I had that doubt in the back of my head that this could change my life and what would that mean for my future. Kind of like the thought of having a child will completely change your life. But I knew that living the old way was going to kill me. So, I stuck with the potatoes and now I seriously cannot imagine doing anything else. The potato weeks were extremely hard but it made it so much easier to switch to a WFPB diet. And that is the diet change that really changed our lives. So, I hope you can be encouraged by the fact that I thought the exact same thing as you. 😀
Clueschow, you are going to feel phenomenal taking control of your health and your life. Don’t be afraid of the unknown life, look forward to it! It is scary, I will give you that. We are so comfortable in our own food world, but look at how you feel, and you are smart enough to know you need to improve your health. I’ll be thinking of you a Thursday as you start to regain control! You will find so much information and recipes here on Krocks. You also get some absolutely fantastic recipes. Brian’s Hummus recipe is the best I have ever made. Even my non-compliant hubby, as I like to call him, loves it!
@@KrocksInTheKitchen Thank you so much! You both are always so encouraging and real about your adventure which is what I appreciate the most. Just wanted to say that I didn't chicken out and began my adventure today. :)
clueschow checking in on you! The weekends are hard for me. If you slip, don’t punish yourself, look at why did you slip. Then, get back into it! Good luck, my friend. I believe in you!
I ate a giant salad every weekday this last week for lunch, and plan to this coming week, too! All inspired from you, of course. I’m not plant based, so I put grilled chicken in mine, but it’s so big and filling that it keeps my afternoon snacking urges at bay which is quite helpful. One of these days I’ll try it with hummus dressing!
I have more or less the same ingredients. Love broccoli florets. Yeah, crave a salad yum 😋 I also add artichoke hearts, cilantro and cherry tomatoes. I actually do eat my salad not mixed up like you do. I dump it in layers in a pretty bowl, and put dressing/ dip on top and take a bit while eating 😉 They say we eat with our eyes 👀
I really like the idea of adding 'pickled' peppers to the salad! I think that is a fantastic idea and I'm going to use it. I also have never had banana peppers.I'm not a fan of any type of hot spiciness, even a smidge, so can you tell me if they have any punch to them that way? Soaking them in vinegar gives endless possibilities. Why did I never think of that?? Thanks, as always for sharing 🤗💖
I am also not into the heat/pain of spicy peppers, but I'm so glad I discovered banana peppers. They are very mild and should have no painful heat unless you grow them next to hot peppers and they cross-pollenate.
I just finished my salad of the day: baby spinach, fried cauliflower rice, your black bean chili, guacamole, and Valentina hot sauce. Been eating plant based since the first of the year. You two are my inspiration. ❤️
So convenient that my city has a street market every Sunday. I will be buying and making this salad this weekend, and it will stay on my shortlist of "go to" recipes. I recently discovered I have gouty arthritis, so not eating meat is even more important to my health. For years I have been on a lean meat and mostly vegetable diet. But, recent health issues have changed my diet a bit. But, now that I am literally back on my feet, I am doing this. Thank you both for your continued examples of real-life weightloss. ♡
I use the same chopping bowl too. You've really inspired me to go back to my salads in this cold weather. It's so satisfying. My legume of choice now is lentils.
Thanks so much Jessica for sharing your salad recipe. I prepared a big batch of it on Monday, so that I could have all week, and I have been absolutely loving it. It is so very delicious, and it is surprisingly filling and satisfying. It’s also a great way to get in a lot of vegetables which I have been struggling with. I’ve also been having a hard time finding a good lunch that I could have all week, and I think I’ve found it. Thank you so, so, so very much!
I'm not a big fan of salad and some of the things you like in yours I definitely would not like, but you have encouraged me to explore and experiment. Plants for the win!
This is beautiful! Y'all have inspired me to eat salads a lot more often and to prep in advance better for it so I don't run straight to my apple/banana peanut butter snack straight after work and instead get more veggies. I like to add a bit of artichoke hearts (jarred in water not oil) and pickled beets and pumpkin seeds, and I use so much balsamic and apple cider vinegar I can't taste anything properly for quite awhile after I'm done. Long story short, thank you for your continued inspiration! I appreciate all you do to support and promote this community!
I don't know which one of you edits and writes comments on the screen but they are hilarious and make me laugh -- so thank you! :) I'm so happy I found you guys -- you're awesome and inspiring and motivating me to eat better. XO!
Can I just say,I love yalls channel, thanks for inspiring us to eat better, you're a real example of what you can accomplish when you put your heart into it.......hugs and kisses from Tennessee.
I just made your super smokey hummus for the first time yesterday and it is fantastic! I was just saying at dinner tonight that I was going to start focusing on salads and this video popped up. So perfect. Thanks for all you do. You two are amazing!
Your hearty salad inspired me to prep ingredients on Sunday night. The dates were so sticky that I mixed them up in the ground flax seeds as i chopped them. Loving the hummus as a dressing, never thought of using it that way.
Thank you Jessica, that looked YUMMY. Pickled peppers sounds good. I also do the hummus thing (2heaped tspn) and then a glug of apple cider vinegar ... Sooooo good! For sweetness, chopped steamed baby beets though dates sounds like the bomb 😁
First off I love you two! I'm so glad you shared your salad and dressing. Until now I haven't found any dressing to put on my salad. I would never have thought to put in a few chopped dates. It works great. I think I will be able to eat a salad a day now. Thank you! More salad dressing ideas would be great.😊 The Krocks Rock!
I been trying the salad at night and it's getting easier...at first I was like ..barf. But Im working up my size of bowl and it tastesbetter than the beginning...I will get there. Thanks for your videos!!
I made a version of this salad for dinner tonight and it was delicious! I don’t typically eat salads in the winter, but this video made me crave one. I love your channel!
HI good to see you again ! I never thought of using hummus to dress my salad, but oh my gosh, I loved it and so did my hard to please hubby !!! thank you both for all you do for us, and your time.
I so love you two! Thanks Jessica! I eat a giant salad every evening too. Since I love banana peppers, I am going to have to try them in a salad soon! I also love avocados so I add one to every salad, along with some sliced beets and black olives sometimes. I also do the smokey hummus as a dressing or a poppyseed dressing that I found a recipe for w/out oil in it.
I like to add pickled sweet peppers and marinated cucumbers to my salad. I also make my own hummus without tahini and add mustard in its place. I add enough water and lemon juice to make it a good consistency and then smother the salad in it. Mmm good. The salad always weighs in over a pound before adding dressing.
thank you for this recipe. I actually made your humus today but I misread the amounts and put instead 2 tablespoon of paprika and 2 tablespoons of garlic. It was still delicious...lol.
@@KrocksInTheKitchen The biggest game changer for me was changing from boxed broth to better than bouillon in the jar. Even used it as my base for my veggie soup in the instant pot. WINNER!!
I am going to try this salad tomorrow, minus the broccoli, onions and bell peppers, haha! I am not a salad person so it's good to hear that you were once like me.
Just wondering, are you skipping those veggies because they're hard to digest? That's my problem. Although I'm good with the colorful bell peppers, just not the green ones. I also take "digestive enzymes" with the first bite. Think "Beano," but I've actually researched and found a brand that has enzymes for breaking down every type of macro (protein, fats, carbs, fiber, etc.) so it doesn't just make digestion more comfortable but supposedly makes the nutrition more bio-available, so you get more out of everything you eat. Interested in any other suggestions. ( :
I've been eating big salads for years, mostly in the summer when I have my garden veggies growing. Never thought to put hummus in it though, that's a great idea! I've used sprouted garbanzo beans on occasion too, they're very sweet.
Awwwwww. I love your channel! Thank you for making this video. I want to start a whole food plant based diet and this video is extremely helpful!!! I appreciate you! :) btw this is Johnny wife. :)
When I first started taking a giant salad to work fo lunch, people were shocked about the size of my bowl. They would always say “are you going to eat all that?” And I would always say “yes!”
That instagram salad looks amazing hahaha I have never seen a salad chopper and I must buy one! Hummus on salad is a first for me and Im gonna have to try this because i love hummus!

Love your videos. I really need to learn to meal prep. I watched your meal prep video and thought that would be such a time saver with two small children. Guna have to give it a try and create a new habit. Bet they'd love it. Great videos and such genuine people😘 💚
I just recently found your channel. I really appreciate the non-Instagram version of how the food really looks right before you eat it. I do not even participate in IG because I found I didn't like the culture and the prettiness. We lead full and busy lives and I like practicality and reality-- all reasons I watch your videos.

Hey there! I’m starting at 400 too, how has it gone so fare for you?
When we finish a jar of banana peppers or jalapenos, I add a can of chickpeas to the brine. I like the extra zing.
I use scissors to chop my salad greens. Just cut right into the bowl of greens until the pieces are as small as you like them.
Me too, Elena!
Good idea!
I use an ulu knife in the bowl

Have you made your own pickled onions? Just slice red onions thin like you do the banana peppers and cover with vinegar....great in salad!!!
Hmm... I can't digest raw onion, this seems like it could help, as well as taste great. Thanks!

@@phnz2lft thank you for the words of encouragement and support. I began my adventure into gaining control of my health and so far so good. :)
clueschow checking in on you! The weekends are hard for me. If you slip, don’t punish yourself, look at why did you slip. Then, get back into it! Good luck, my friend. I believe in you!
Well. You’re a genius. That is all. I got the salad chopper and am eating my salad with a spoon...it’s a game changer for sure!!!
Omg, eating it right now and that smokey hummus is a straight up GAME CHANGER!
I’m sure I’ve said it before....but you two have the best channel on youtube❤️
Thank you so much for the detail of this video and recipe. It does my brain good to see the measurements written down!! Thank you, thank you!!
I don't know which one of you edits and writes comments on the screen but they are hilarious and make me laugh -- so thank you! :) I'm so happy I found you guys -- you're awesome and inspiring and motivating me to eat better. XO!
Woman of a Certain Age I believe it’s Brian
Yep, it's ALL Brian! :P
Yep, Jessica does all the blog posts and social media and I do all the editing. 😀
Yayy! Thank you Terri!
Nice to meet you! Brian, Jessica!
The couple is careful about their health.
Very nice couple.
I love your hair today. It's grown some. So cute. Cute jacket too. Yummy looking salad. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I have been eating huge salads....inspired by you! I look forward to my salad too. Thank you. 🐞
I been trying the salad at night and it's getting easier...at first I was like ..barf. But Im working up my size of bowl and it tastesbetter than the beginning...I will get there. Thanks for your videos!!
I’m not a salad person But your salad made my mouth water!!! Thanks for sharing 😁
My lunch salad today has broccoli and dates. Two ideas from Jessica. Thanks!
I wasn't consistently eating salad before I started watching y'all. I use different ingredients tho so it's fun to see this!
Thank you both for everything you do to help us all! Much appreciated!
I made your salad except my humus is tomato basil, but delish! Dates a a sweet add love a bite of sweet once and awhile!
I think your salad bowl is awesome. That's something I would do.
Thanks for sharing the dates in your salad. I would have never thought of that. It really makes a positive difference 😁
Sounds weird but I love sauerkraut in salads! Plus its extra probiotics since its fermented :)
Thanks so much for sharing and how to make salads that make you want to eat a lot of them. Would love to see Brian's salad too.
I followed your link & got the salad chopper bowl. Lifechanging!
We made your chili and it was amazing!! Thank you!!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I struggle with salads too but this I could do!
Post a video of making the banana peppers please!
Why a video? She said she just chops and puts into white vinegar.
People learn different ways 🤷♀️
I’m ready for a krocks in the kitchen cookbook!
Wasn’t gonna watch this but I am sooo glad I did! Never thought to use hummus in my salad😮.
Would you consider making a video of how to make gumbo?
Totally legit. New subscriber, thankful to have come across your channel.
When I first started taking a giant salad to work fo lunch, people were shocked about the size of my bowl. They would always say “are you going to eat all that?” And I would always say “yes!”
Can't wait to try this salad. I had been eating just steamed veggies and potatoes, but this looks really delicious. I just love your videos!
I make mine so similar but sometimes put 🍎 or 🍅 love your content, you both are looking so good and healthy.
Love this as I do all your videos! I totally ate my salad with a spoon tonight!!! 😂
That instagram salad looks amazing hahaha
I have never seen a salad chopper and I must buy one!
Hummus on salad is a first for me and Im gonna have to try this because i love hummus!
Great job! I love this idea. I get putzy making salad. So this is perfect!! I will add avocado otherwise perfect!!
Peef! Where is Peef?
Love 💕 the new, dressed up Jessica, but I miss reading Jessica’s t-shirt.
Well done solo Jessica, as always another great video from my favourite Krocks
he was stuffed in the handle of the fridge
I bet you guys would love homemade sauerkraut on your salad, it adds the acid hit.
That is a great looking salad. I chop mine with scissors. Your channel is growing by leaps and bounds! 😄
You guys are great. In one other video Brian said commenters said you guys are weird. You guys are awesome! Keep up the great work. Also pls let us know when you do make that album.
Love your videos. I really need to learn to meal prep. I watched your meal prep video and thought that would be such a time saver with two small children. Guna have to give it a try and create a new habit. Bet they'd love it.
Great videos and such genuine people😘 💚
Thank you! I just committed to the salad a day meal and so far they've been pretty boring. Yours sounds delicious!
I just recently found your channel. I really appreciate the non-Instagram version of how the food really looks right before you eat it. I do not even participate in IG because I found I didn't like the culture and the prettiness. We lead full and busy lives and I like practicality and reality-- all reasons I watch your videos.
Love your channel! You guys have great personalities and awesome radio voices. Glad I found your channel :)
Now I'm definitely looking forward to my salad for dinner tomorrow!!!!
I share your salad prep video with someone at least daily. 😍
Love the banana pepper part!
Love you guys. I would love to see a salad dressing episode. I have been PL only a few weeks and still using Olive Garden salad dressing.
There are tons of wfpb dressing recipes out there.
This is such a well thought out salad recipe - all the little tweaks to enhance the nutrition and flavour :)
