    OMG, I now feel so old after watching your video! I used to have one of those label makers. When I was in high school! I used it to label all my books, and notebooks. I loaned it to my friends. Everyone wanted to "type" their names. I think we used to call it Dyno. Or maybe that was the brand. Now, I use a skewer with a piece of paper taped to it for labeling my plants. And for precise watering, I use a turkey baster. It is awesome. Thanks for sharing your tips.

      @@alinamaraa I’m a bit obsessed right now. On Monday I got two jewel orchids. A Macodes petola and a Ludisia discolor for my little ikea green house. Tonight I got a calathea white fusion and an orbifolia. My husband wonders where we’re going to put all the plants in our condo, especially with our cats being a little too interested in them. I’m a huge calathea lover and I’ve made our condo into a humid tropical oasis, as much as you can do that in Calgary 😂.

    Bought the glasses, I can use them for so many things like reading the back of the bottles of stuff you mix for your plants. I also bead and knit and hope they help me with them. Also I use a empty dish soap bottle well rinsed and found it to be my favorite watering tool. For dropper I use a empty eye drop bottle, the tops pop off to fill, then you squeeze a drop out. Another DIY tool I use is a old knitting needle, I use the pointy end to tease out roots, make holes ,and the other end to shove dirt in tight places. Glad I found your channel have a good new year.

    I'm getting those goggles. Great idea. Currently I use my headlamp with no magnifying glass and hope for the best.
    A good idea for a video, and you kind of just touched on it in this one. I like the IDEA of a Monstera but when I see a lot of established plants that weren't tied up, trained, trellis'd up .. they spread out and not typically manageable and leaves a somewhat womp womp feeling when they no longer fit the space. I do have potential long term space but I have decided on getting two mature cuttings. So .. I'm not starting from scratch but using these two cuttings to get them to go vertical from the beginning. So .. any info on that would be helpful!

    • @PlanteriorDecorator
      @PlanteriorDecorator  3 роки тому +1

      Monstera deliciosa are actually not climbers! They are massing plants! They do climb eventually in the wild, but don't get big enough in a home. Monstera borsigiana ARE climbers though!!!
      A lot of borsigiana are sold as deliciosa, and it's impossible to tell the difference until they've matured.
      Mature deliciosa leaves will have a ripple to the stem where it meets the leaf! Borsigiana will not.
      Deliciosa can also look beautiful, but IMO need more trimming to keep them from being too wild!

    Any tips on dealing with a mealy bug infestation? I've been battling one for months, and they just refuse to die!

    • @PlanteriorDecorator
      @PlanteriorDecorator  3 роки тому

      I like beneficial insects! They are pricey but they do an amazing job haha. Orius Insidiosus (pirate beetles) and Green Lacewings both eat mealybugs I believe!! 😁
      You can also be persistent with diluted isopropyl alcohol sprays, but IMO beneficial bugs are just so much easier!
      I have a video about them up on my channel 👍🏻 I personally like the pirate beetles a lot!

    I always see people talking about putting their plants in the shower. This may be a dumb question but doesn't that make alot of dirt come out of the pots and get in the tub? Just wondering if you just wash all that down the drains?

    • @PlanteriorDecorator
      @PlanteriorDecorator  3 роки тому +1

      If you fill the tub, then put the plants into it, it's pretty clean!! Letting them bottom-water for 30 mins or so is a great way to make sure those roots get the water they need.
      Washing off the foliage isnt usually too messy either! Soil-wise at least haha

    Interesting suggestions. I didn’t know cuttings needed to be in the dark - you mean only specific types? I found eschavaria leaves need bright light to grow rosettes and roots. Since I don’t have any plant sitters, I think the most useful gadget for me is one that can be reliable with watering plants when away on vacation, though I know you don’t need that since you have your fiancé taking care of them while you are gone. Just curious, what type of job do you do? Sounds like a dream job to be able to travel often for work - you mentioned you were away for a month in Korea or so.

    • @PlanteriorDecorator
      @PlanteriorDecorator  3 роки тому +1

      Not too dark, but not too bright for a lot of them!! I root tons of cuttings in rooms that have 0 windows, only regular LED ceiling fixtures! Works like a charm 😁

    Hi! Just found your channel.. question - do you recommend putting succulents into a “greenhouse” type space? Would you suggest high humidity or low humidity? Thank you in advance!! 🥰

    • @PlanteriorDecorator
      @PlanteriorDecorator  3 роки тому +1

      Succulents would do well with a grow light, but don't require high humidity! You could make a cacti/succulent cabinet/shelf with a growlight and skip on the humidity addition!

    I actually have those glasses. I originally bought them for sculpting small things but I now I mostly use them to see pests or to pick out the thorns when I bump into my opuntia.
