Bringing my friends around my parents makes me feel like Candace from Phineas and Ferb when she’s trying to catch them in the act, but the thing they’re creating that day disappears when I try to show my friends. As an adult, I get her now
My mother was the master of this. My high school best friend came over all the time for 9 months. The first 5 months she kept going "dude, you're mom is so nice. You're over reacting". 6th month onward: "holy shit, she really IS a master manipulator. You said she was, but I had no idea". Because at that point, mom didn't care to keep the facade up.
Met someone who knew my mom before me and didn't understand why I had a bad relationship with her because she was just "so nice". Few weeks later she texts me saying my mom basically asked her to spy on me and report to her (which she thankfully said no to, but our burgeoning friendship kind of crashed after that. Can't really come back from that unfortunately)
@@Fen_Fox So the other person stood by you both in confrontation with your mother and later by being honest towards you? Why did that make the friendship crash?
@@nicolaim4275 Considering she met my mom first, was friends with her first, and my mom was the one who introduced her to me...well it definitely made things awkward. Few other minor factors too but that would require a mini essay long context which I'm not going to write out. My mom also probably said some stuff when she refused that discouraged her to remain in contact with me, which I do not blame her for lol
My mom is definitely like this. Psycho narcissistic personality disorder… one of my friends watched her beat the absolute 💩 out of me… then turned around and cheerfully asked friend with zero apologies for what she just witnessed- “Would you like a ride back home?” …dafuq!? You just traumatized the child then act like June Cleaver without even touching on what just went down!!?? 😳🤯
No. She's just an girl , who wasn't born in India . And somehow still got the " 90s Indian child growing up " life . And she's talking to everyone about it .
THIS IS EXACTLY MY FAMILY!!! You get there trying to present your villain origin story, and you leave with your BF asking if they may be interested in adopting him.
@@azlanadil3646 You tend to discard that possibility when you see your family blatantly lie about events, and put on unusual displays only when strangers are around.
when she developed and wrote that portion of her special, i am sure she knew it would slay. her delivery knocked it out of the park . . . the slow feminine sashay. Thank You Taylor.
My dad was really abusive and even though I went no contact when I was 10 (I’m 32 now) I still have a lot of rage and resentment towards him, and one day a coworker said to me “So you mean to tell me if your dad was dying and he begged to see you and ask for forgiveness, you’d just ignore him?” And I said “If my dad was lit on fire, I’d put him out with gasoline and leave him to burn in a ditch.” Nobody ever asked me about my dad again at work.
Her delivery and physical action is always so damn witty, charismatic, and full of relatable thoughts/premises. That bit about lizard ppl made me think that this would be an awesome way to introduce the Skrull Invasion of Marvel Comics.
Just watched the special with my wife who is not a comedy fan at all and she died laughing the entire hour. We'll be watching her other 2 tomorrow night now 😂
I saw her live in Nashville. She was amazing. If you get the chance you should go whenever she tours again. Also have you checked out her show After Midnight on CBS / Paramount +?
I love when her eyes bug out of her head to make a point. I know this is gonna sound creepy but I have a celebrity crush on this lady. She’s so beautiful and so funny and just brightens my day.
It's not creepy. Love her to death myself. Of course that makes sense in my case since she advertises her red flags like a billboard in Time's Square. Just another case of me loving beautiful broken people I guess.
I think the acting is doubly impressive because she's switching personas every few seconds and completely selling that. Even the highest paid stage or screen actors don't have to do that.
@@markusv95 You do understand people have differnet tastes, right? Oh no you are a fucking moron who thinks if a man likes a female comic he is a pick-me-boy. I also like bill burr, what do you think about that. You idiot.
One thing I appreciate about my parents is they’re the same people to everyone. I can confidently say to my wife “if you’ve ever wondered why I am Like This, please recall every interaction we’ve had with my mom and late father.”
My Dad's autistic like me, he doesn't even manage the small deceptions people use to get through every day interactions, he won't manage a whole other version of himself. Mum passed away but she was never any different around other people either. They're not perfect by any means but I've never had a problem introducing anyone to them. Of course, as I mentioned I'm also autistic so there haven't been that many people to introduce...
In college my fiancee and her mother happened to meet my mom and sisters, I never understood the scene in the odyssey where the harpies flung their feces at everyone, but I never had trouble picturing it after that.
Best comedian working today, hands down. Love her. Brilliant writing, perfect delivery. She has clearly worked her ass off to get this good, and it shows.
This is her most relatable bit for me, even though I've never introduced anyone to my mother. But I've thought about how I'd ever handle the mother situation if I ever find a partner, and I've imagined introducing them precisely to get the reaction she described at the start, while also fearing the second part might be the outcome.
Huge difference between her first and second special. You can tell she has been studying body language and it shows on this second one. She is awesome and a pro!
(spoilers) Learned in this special that she has a trans brother & her other two sisters are queer & Taylor thinks she might be a bisexual and I can't help but think of her super religious father and laugh
I wish Taylor played for our team, but she feels too straight to me. She’s like Leslie Liao, so tired of shitty men but stuck in heterosexual hell. She’s still young, though. Hope she finds happiness with whomever that may be.
I watched her special today and I feel so much sympathy for her. 30s is when people with toxic parents start to full on grapple with the effects of their childhood. When she almost cried when she heard how gently her audience member's mom handled the sex talk with them, I felt that. Hang on tight Taylor. You'll find someone sweet to love you back eventually. Someone like your bff, but romantically.
Every time I watch Taylor I crave cold pasta salad and giggle to myself because if I laugh too loud my girlfriend will lose her bi polar mind and beat me up. Not because I have a big crush, it's because she knows I smoked all the weed
If you treat your partner badly, YOU are responsible, not your parents. If you went to therapy or read a book and learned how your childhood affected you, you are MORE responsible not less, because you KNOW BETTER. It is 100% unjust to take your bad childhood out on your partner, who had nothing to do with it.
I'm glad to see she talks about this topic and is not afraid to criticize her parents, which is still a big taboo for most people, following the age old commandment "honor thy mother and father".
Soooo true that your parents will show up as the best parents ever when introducing them to friends and partners, despite that not being who they are to you in private AT ALL. Luckily people who also have tricky parents generally understand this, but someone who comes from a healthy family often won’t and thinks you’re just being crazy and over exaggerating in the way you speak about them.
I remember when my mom 'snapped; at my wife for the 1st (and only) time. We were married for a few years and having a picnic at parents. The wife was asking my mom the "wrong" questions and my mom gave her a quick, short answer that basically told her to shut up! No context needed 🤣
bruh this can only be funny to other ppl like me who hate their parents
I must’ve rewound that line 3-4 times when the special dropped 😂
My mind started racing with comebacks about exactly were that would be, and not one of them were good for Taylor. 🤣

She’s a powerhouse joke machine with acting chops that have yet to be fully revealed

So, so, so true. Parents are always 1 step ahead of us adult children. Why? Because, their parents most likely did the same thing to them!
The Rule of Two.
The desire to be liked or be called nice overrides the desire to be honest.

Taylor’s feelings about her parents at the end - too relatable 😂😂😂
the faux bashfulness about how she deserves to go to target works because of her leg movements for some reason that's hard to articulate.
