Ace Pro 2 for low light (Action 5 not far behind) & audio. GoPro had a few good moments but it's horrible at low light (this is important to me). But in general the DJI Action 5 is the one I'll go for. It's not a perfect camera but I found myself liking it for the most shots. Btw seems like it was a fun trip, thank you for all you do for us!
Thanks for this comparison! I'd like to know in which sharpness setting you are running the Osmo Action 5, as it show some really annoying fringing around the edges of object. Extremely visable on foliage. And what's this setting on the Ace Pro 2 - which looks good in this regard, opposite to some other videos on youtube.
Thanks for posting this comparison video! The image of the Action 5 Pro looks fine underneath the trees but why is it so blue underwater, that can't be right (right?) and I don't like how bright and fake it looks, almost like there's a smoothing filter. It does seem to have the best sound though, decent wind filter but doesn't sound muffled otherwise, so a good mix between the Ace and Hero. It looks like the Ace Pro 2 has the best image though, as long as you aren't inside (that part looked a bit orange) and that night scene, wow (why is the Hero 13 so dark?!)! Too bad that one isn't available here yet. :/
With GoPro when you have the media mod on there's a click sound recorded when you end the video, that's the sound of pressing the record button, a major design flaw no one talks about. I wonder if action pro has the same issue?
Notably, the GoPro is the only one that properly exposed your eyes through the mask underwater. This could be due to the Local Tone Mapping system it uses in addition to the Global Tone Mapping. Although unfortunately the Local Tone Mapping does have a flip side effect of making facial skin look terrible in good sunlight! It can be turned off using Labs though, while keeping the Global Tone Mapping on, though it might not be so good with the underwater mask scenario. With the Ace Pro 2, did you use the underwater mode?
It looks like Insta360 Ace Pro 2 has less sharpening compared to the other cameras that's why it looks a touch soft, but it also looks more natural because of that. Also in low light, IMHO Ace Pro 2 looks best
TBH, they all look good, literally everyone will perform better then the other in certain situations and environment and not one does good in ALL those environments. At the end of the day, it's what looks best to the user and how they will be using their camera. For me, I shoot a lot in low light and night so my choices would be Action 5 Pro and Ace Pro but that's me. ;) Great video as usual David!
I definitely wanted to like the GoPro because I have so much GoPro stuff already. But they hit Rock bottom. Do I wait for the 14 and see what they do or just go DJI
Great bag sir! I love my Clever Supply and can't wait for the Sidekick Todd does great work. All that said, I have tested both and after taking back the A5 and solely using the AP2 for 2 week, I am taking it back to get the A5. The only advantage it has is low light but it's not even that much better.
skin colour - gopro (most of the time) sky colour - gopro (often more natural) under water - dji (bit too dark though) audio - insta or dji low light - gopro (just kidding😂 like dji the most)
Gopro has definitely the nicest colours over all, especially skin tones plus it's footage looks most natural but good. The worst is the insta - totally pinkish and soft. DJI is a mixed bag. Quite often it looks fake and over-sharpened with again pink ish tones. After dark it's of course the game over for gopro. I wonder how the A5 would compare to modern mobile phones in that environment.
Thanks for the side-by-side footage. I think the Ace Pro 2 has a bit too much contrast and the Action 5 Pro looks like it could use a bit more contrast. I'm not even bothering with the GoPro because I'm done with them and looking to get out of that ecosystem. I'm leaning towards the Action 5 Pro over the Ace Pro 2 primarily because of size/weight (I mount camera to my helmet when motorcycling) but I _really_ don't like the obnoxious lens fare on the DJI cam. It just look weird compared to a more natural bokeh you get from other cameras.
So my question now is do I open this other DJI 5 Pro or trade it for an Insta360 Ace Pro 2? I already have enough GoPros. I never keep my DJI Action cameras but I was hoping the 5 Pro would be the first time I kept one at least one. I have given them all away be cause they fall short from insta360 and reality clarity view of the GoPro.
After so many comparisons, I rule out to Dji Action 5 Pro. GoPro has the nicest image quality with bright light. Yet, smaller sensor and still overheat defeat its pros. Insta360 has better of both world but personally I don't like flip screen in action cam. Dji's image quality out of the camera looks weird and plasticky but as I ljke shooting in 10 bits log, with color grading, it's not an issue. The battery life is amazing. Internal storage helps me in several scenarios. I'm using lots of quick capture which the fastest in its class. P.S: Battery lives that out last my 1tb card and zero overheating sold me with Dji. It's outweight its cons.
@4:56 you can see who does it better in high dynamic ranges - DJI by far. My issue with the AP2 is the over correction of colours, check the black fence behind (lack of detail) now check the bushes behind the other shoulder (completely blown and over corrected - lack of detail), in fact the GoPro is better than the AP2 on those conditions. To me the more balanced camera is definitely the DJI A5P
I have been watching these comparison videos trying to decide. Costco has a gopro13 bundle on sale for $339 so I figured that was a good deal, but the action 5 seems to be the winner for most. I’m not a UA-camr or anything.. just a mom who wants to film some videos when we go on our cruise next May. Something I don’t have to stress about if my daughters want to film at the beach or go snorkeling with.
The ace pro2 seems to oversaturate the reds and yellows, especially in low light. The DJI looks like it has a beauty filter on. Faces look smoother than on the other 2, but loses detail in the clouds.
I think if I had based my decision off this video, I would have maybe ended up with the GoPro. The Insta360 looks overly software enhanced (but also has the best physical lens). The GoPro did worst in low light, but had the most realistic detail otherwise - especially when the subjects and scenes started having more motion.. This comparison would have been better after the DJI Action 5 Pro December firmware update. In all honesty, the lower bit rate in the Action 5 Pro in this video looks terrible compared to the other two. But, I'm the most impressed by its vastly superior white balance. The new firmware now allows a "high bit rate" option. I've found the quality to be significantly better in the high-bit-rate mode. I'd love to see this enabled and then the cameras compared again. And where the GoPro looks best in this video, you can adjust your denoise and auto-sharpening on the Action 5 to likely match or exceed the GoPro. In the dark scenarios, the Action 5 Pro's new firmware enables a Super Night Mode which does pretty amazing. The Insta 360 is brighter and sharper in older videos I've seen. But in the newer videos I've seen, the Action 5 Pro may beat it (for overall image quality in low light). Also, I'd love to see a comparison between the battery usage in low-bit-rate mode compared to high-bit-rate mode on the Action 5 Pro.
@@DavidManningvlog 8:49 its probably just lighting - but if you look at the Ace and Action shots, her eyes are darker colour. I was wondering if that is an artifact of the camera or just low light effect?.
The focus distance of the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 looks like its still a bit of a problem compared to the other two. The DJI looks great except for thay over processed HDR look that messes up the look of the sky. I hope a firmware update fixes that or that theyd offer an on and off toggle.
I have the ace pro 1 and ace pro 2 still looks like it has the same problem of not looking natural. It looks like it has filters on its regular footage. I switched to dji action 5 pro and im far happier with the camera.
I used GoPro from version 3 through 11 and was considering getting the 13, but after watching reviews, I decided to go with the Action 5. I’ll never go back to GoPro. I shoot everything in D-Log and even stopped bringing my Canon EOS R6 because the Action 5 meets my needs, even in low light. I can’t say much about the Ace Pro 2, but my Insta360 X4 is always with me, paired with the Action 5. It’s the perfect combo for motovlogging and any kind of activity.
You’ve got a hell of a setup! Like I mentioned in the video, the Ace Pro 2 and Action 5 are both using the same sensor, so obviously the differences are just in how the footage is processed. I think the only downside of your current setup is having to use two separate apps, but other than that, you’re dialed man!
The clouds look so bad on Action 5. That’s the camera I have. Its a great camera in many ways, but clouds don’t look too good on this one. I wish they would fix that.
Don't see photo tests between models, I believe most of the action cam owners use them for video and not photos, but I like them for photos as well. Tested the Osmo Action 5 in photo mode and realized that the Auto mode is much different from the first model DJI released. I used Osmo Action 1 for snorkeling, taking photos underwater and above the water and leaving the camera in Auto was good enough to manage with different light conditions. Now, you have to adjust the aperture manually in almost all the scenarios. Besides that DJI lost the interval photos, where you can take a photo every 1 second for example, now only with hyperlapse only but you don't see the timer between photos... Would like to see some photo tests as well
The footage on the ace pro 2 is really soft. is there a reason for that? I think the DJI action 5 has much too strong of an HDR look that makes it look like smartphone footage. I like the sharpness and colours on the gopro but the dynamic range is clearly one step down from the other two. It's hard to pick a winner honestly. I definitely dont like the action 5. If the ace pro footage wasnt so soft, I would pick that as the winner I guess
I agree that Ace Pro 2 looks surprisingly soft. I am not seeing that in other reviews. The Action 5 looks overly sharpened and a bit HDRish. I am seeing that in other reviews. The GoPro has nothing compelling. Probably with a bit of tweaking to the settings, either the Ace Pro 2 or the Action 5 would be excellent. I like the 2x zoom in 4K with no resolution loss on the Ace Pro 2. I like the smaller size of the Action 5. Tough choice...
Skin tones looked best on GoPro... The other cameras had better blue sky rand but poor skin tone . I care about the image quality on a person... I don't record at night like most people... I may stay with gopro
I like the dji footage here in this comparison video. but overall, will still get insta360, as the wind muff, bigger screen, and most importantly the software creativity and various modes availability...
Action 5 did it best for me, better colors better underwater look and face exposure, The Gopro and ace pro 2 look too green underwater, the also were bad in the wind test. Gopro in low light is garbage and the Ace pro face color is very orange. Dji for the win.
Well I've always used GoPro but over all I'm going with the Ace Pro. I liked the DJI but I think it over compensated the colors a bit. The Ace Pro was more natural.
I record while snorkeling every time we go to Hawai'i, and the Action 5 is the color I look to grade to... most often unsuccessfully. The problem is that colors change drastically depending on water clarity, depth, and cloud cover above. That means keyframing and... ugh! Any Hoo... Action 5 nails it, to my eyes. I'll trade you 2 DJI Action OGs (and accessories) for a 5. I'm local, and heading to Maui in January.
DJI gives an unreal color to be honest, the more I look at it the more I like the acepro2. the moment i realized all 3 cameras are in low sharpness setting, dji is a nogo for me
I liked the Insta 360 Ace Pro 2 footage. The underwater was way better than the other 2, and the low light marginally better than the DJI. In daylight, the colours of the Insta were more lifelike, and at times, the DJI made Davids face look almost cartoon like. But it is close between those two and I think if you bought either one you would be happy.... Unfortunately, GoPro is lagging behind quite a bit and not really competing in this league at the moment.
I bought the GoPro this year, first one I’d had since the 7, was disappointed when it fell from my pocket and destroyed the back screen. I feel like they used to be made more durable, since it’s an action camera. I had the Best Buy insurance and just swapped it out for a new one, but still a bummer.
Damn, that Action 5 Pro is literally the only one of the three I'd even consider! They all suck in the dark but I'd never use an action cam at dusk or night in any case!
All footage and audio is straight out of camera with sharpness set to LOW and hasn’t been color corrected or graded. Let me know your thoughts!
Question - For the underwater shots, which one was true-to-life compared to what you actually saw? It seems DJI has a very different interpretation of what the colours down there should look like compared to the other two cameras.
One question, why the Ace Pro 2 is so blurry? It was not like that on your earlier video. Sharpness turned all the way down?

Turkey?!? All good dads have cool names for their daughters! Mine are Micky, Monkey & Pinky! 😂
Hahhaa my three little turkeys! Micky, Monkey, and Pinky are good ones!
@@DavidManningvlog - oh! They’re all turkeys!?! 😂 Come on, man. Older one, Turkey. Younger one, Chicken!
You have a beautiful family!
GoPro 13 all day for me with the insta 360x4 also! 🎒
The background looks better on the Ace Pro 2. I wonder which one is best for landscape shots from an FPV drone though.
Why did i see other videos that DJI 5 pro's color not contrast and sharpness like this?
Great great video, best for a comparison test. Action 5 nailed all situations, I was initially going for the GoPro but this video changed my mind
I definitely wanted to like the GoPro because I have so much GoPro stuff already. But they hit Rock bottom. Do I wait for the 14 and see what they do or just go DJI
Hello. You put the cameras in the water without any protection and there was no problem with them?
IMO Action 5 looks better
Great bag sir! I love my Clever Supply and can't wait for the Sidekick Todd does great work. All that said, I have tested both and after taking back the A5 and solely using the AP2 for 2 week, I am taking it back to get the A5. The only advantage it has is low light but it's not even that much better.
skin colour - gopro (most of the time)
sky colour - gopro (often more natural)
under water - dji (bit too dark though)
audio - insta or dji
low light - gopro (just kidding😂 like dji the most)
Gopro has definitely the nicest colours over all, especially skin tones plus it's footage looks most natural but good.
Pro 5 is the best footage for me apart from underwater where the Ace Pro 2 wins hands down. Go Pro loses on both underwater and normal for me
The Ace Pro 2 in dive housing, you cannot use presets, a major weakness for scuba diving.
for that outdoor scenario, does the DJI need ND filter?
I have the ace pro … very disappointed in the lack of streaming ability. I’m thinking about moving to the dji osmo
I'll choose gopro but dji does great underwater. Clearly smokes the competition
What’s your sunglasses? Rayban Meta?
I have the RayBan Meta's, but these are my Blenders. Here's a link to them geni.us/DMBlenders
I prefer the GoPro Hero 13 look . I have a DJI Action 5 camera too, but for me, the GoPro produces nicer video when mounted on an FPV drone.
Action 5 all round seemed to do a good job. Your youngest child, her eye colour goes from Blue to Brown in some of the shots?
Hahhaa they're definitely blue! Did you see it on just one camera?
@@DavidManningvlog 8:49 its probably just lighting - but if you look at the Ace and Action shots, her eyes are darker colour. I was wondering if that is an artifact of the camera or just low light effect?.
The focus distance of the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 looks like its still a bit of a problem compared to the other two. The DJI looks great except for thay over processed HDR look that messes up the look of the sky. I hope a firmware update fixes that or that theyd offer an on and off toggle.
I like all three of these action cameras. 10:07
Gopro 💪🏼
Dji asmo action 5 pro all day every day 🙌 🎉🎉
I have the ace pro 1 and ace pro 2 still looks like it has the same problem of not looking natural. It looks like it has filters on its regular footage. I switched to dji action 5 pro and im far happier with the camera.
please try the voice enhancer in ace pro 2.
AP2✅
What are the settings like for each of them??
Would like to see some photo tests as well
Who is the winner?
Sepertinya semuanya bagus. Cuma mana yang lebih awet di gunakan jangka panjang
Then it would be better if edited.
Skin tones looked best on GoPro... The other cameras had better blue sky rand but poor skin tone . I care about the image quality on a person...
I don't record at night like most people... I may stay with gopro
I pulsed this video at 4K here and there about 10 times. Almost every time Action 5 Pro gave the most sharp image.
I liked the vlog style video.
Nothing on overheating?
ACTION 5 For game, set and match
