    I ignore the advice on greens. I have watched lots of watercolor artists. The ones I continue to watch are the kind that use anything and everything and don’t follow the elitist, snobby rules. They show me I can use what I have, or improvise. There are no rules in art, or there would never be new and different art. Right? Right. Thanks for being you.

    I don't know if you've heard of ASHA (art supply horders anonymous) but I am a recovering addict 😂
    As a firm believer in learning the basics of art and painting, I'm also a strong advocate for breaking the rules which apparently that content creator didn't get the memo

    I used to be a secretary in the 1980s. Computers killed my job. People didn't need secretaries to type and mail their letters anymore and all of their files were saved on computer disks.
    It was a tough time to make a living. AI is going to eliminate a lot of jobs. No doubt about it.
    I don't stress over my artwork. It's supposed to be a way to destress. I use whatever I feel like using and I don't need anyone's approval to enjoy painting in any way I want. Your style is not my style, but I thoroughly enjoy watching your channel. It's funny and colorful and I love your sense of humor. I couldn't do the type of work you do. It's got so much imagination! Glad I found your channel.

    It's not your fault if people don't have the maturity to balance their checkbook. I honestly can not stand those who blame their lack of willpower on another person instead of looking in the mirror and fixing their own crap. People who complain about the swatching and buying need to be on their merry way... I love your channel...you are a breath of fresh air. There aren't many male artist youtubers out there and I appreciate you beyond words ❤❤

    We have been phasing jobs out for "robots" (or very simple technology) forever and we still suck at it. I used to think people were over reacting about "robots taking our jobs" because it's inevitable and a good thing! If tech does the hard labor then we're free to be creative or whatever. But man, we as a society are bad at helping people transition into new positions. That being said, tiktok didn't need ai to be assholes, and the fact that people think ai will take over art is hilarious to me 😆

      I agree. AI can't take over, special effects were just called computer generated and then that wasn't scary enough so they called it AI. And keeping the rant PG might be fun for you, but it's hard. 😂

    Before you said that it should be something like graffiti, I could see you were painting a landscape with a children's playground and the red graffiti is a very sophisticated, tricky climbing device 😊
    Cool picture and even better talk. 🥰
    The coloring book market is already flooded with AI too. In the upcoming ESC (eurovision song contest) San Marino's contribution will be a song written by AI. This is ridiculous, the ESC is not a singer's contest, but a songwriter's contest. I can't understand, that this is even allowed.

    Monday Morning Rants and Art with Pete... over coffee, too? Yes, sirrrr! And I love Folk Art myself, the more whimsical side of it. I run from Artist's who give such pompous advice about color. You can't do this, or if you do that, then you're not a "ReAl ArTiSt"... I'd click "unsubscribe" real quick. If I can share one tiny positive experience with AI. I was sent brushes and paper by a company recently and they wanted me to script my review and copy an artist called 'Painting In Hiding's style of delivering information. I declined the collaboration but before I did, I needed help in describing just how bad their paper was. They were marketing it as artist grade when it was clearly student grade. I used AI on Facebook to help me with my email and I was successful in delivering my message. So it did help me because I'm HORRIBLE with sense. Anyways... I love your videos. I look forward to them every week Pete. 👏 👏 👏 👏

      Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy these. I've been contacted by shady companies as well. I would never do that. My words or no words. Besides, if I read from a company script I think people would be able to pick up on that immediately. 😂

    Love your advice about the rules that some put on making art. I just ranted recently on another channel about a comment someone made about “the rules.” It can take courage to ignore or dismiss that stuff if you’re a beginner because one feels like - I don’t have enough knowledge to jump in the way I want - it’s not allowed yet. The hell with that. There’s plenty of advice on technique you can seek out, but don’t believe that’s the only way to make art.

  • @Piwonia67

    I'm a nature lover and I'm going to paint as green as I like 😂 My painting probably won't hang in galleries, it's enough if they give me fun and bring some joy to people around me. And it's cool to be a beginner and discover that you can paint quite a realistic dog face, I don't care that somebody says "it's childish"
    I've seen tons of videos on different artist stuff, and maybe it's a blessing that I just can't afford it all. My present goal is to gather a good small set of colors that is flexible enough to mix the shades I need, and possibly to gradually add new more fancy ones.

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  9 місяців тому +1

      I agree. That's a good goal. As long as you have what you need to create what you enjoy, that's all that matters.

      Thank you for this honest review of a product I have been curious about. So far, I have not liked any of the masking fluids I have used. Even the ones that go down easy don’t want to let go of the paper. I have found that a bit of white gouache will cover them up so I can paint over them. However, you still of lumps in the final piece that I really don’t like. On the issue of art supplies, I have decided that they are like Pokémon cards, you gotta catch them all. Hubby encourages me to get everything I think I need. Our kids think I have a problem that may require an intervention. I just give them that look that stopped them dead in their tracks when they were little and they back off. I love your sense of humor.

      @selahr. 9 місяців тому

      @@IllustrationsByPete if you try it you’ll definitely want one of the “rubber cement erasers/pick ups” (they are dirt cheap and basically are big rough blocks of rubber cement that help dislodge an roll up the rubber cement from your page… maybe those are the same things you mentioned for masking fluid? Idk…). I haven’t had any paper tearing, it’s cheaper, it makes really abstract marks with the brush tip attached to the lid, you can also use silicone tipped brushes (like the ones used for carving:/sculpting clay) to have more options for controlling the effects.

    It looks like you have another creature here, looking around the side on the right sticking out its tongue at the audience. It's perfect! 😁
    AI in the hands of the lazy produces slop. AI in the hands of the ambitious is downright frightening. It's not really much different than any other previous technological advance. No matter what, the genie is out of the bottle and we have to deal with it. Machines have helped us, hurt us, crushed, us, been used to destroy, used to build, made it possible to to amazing and terrible things. AI was next.
    As for the negative Nancies, just ignore them. I tune them out, don't subscribe, turn my back, just don't let them take up space in my head. Life's too short for that crap. Keep doing what you're doing. I love your videos, your humor, and your whimsical illustrations! I'm starting to think up a storyline based on the two recent ones. Maybe you've got some kind of cool subconscious story thing going here... lol. Or maybe it's just me and my warped sense of humor... or just pareidolia...

    not getting mad about paint here. it's called self control, not your fault if others don't have it. there are no "good" art stores here. i basically order everything i use these days. it helps because i have to plan and don't get to just impulse buy. i don't use masking fluid much, it just isn't part of my normal process and all i have is a pot of good 'ol W&N masking. it dries out badly so i waste alot but i might put this on my try list when i finally use it up. not much for art rules myself and i hate snobby behaviors. good way for me to ignore someone. i think some people fallow these kinds of people because they sound like they know what they are talking about and the person listening is desperate to understand why their art does not meet their own expectations.

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  5 місяців тому +1

    😂😂😂😂"condescending donkey" would be a great name for a band except that there aren't any new bands on accounta AI having destroyed any possibility of humans actually creating anything at all... 25 years ago a well meaning friend of mine offered to put some of my drawings through photoshop so that I could "save time" cleaning up my art and quickly add color. I was horrified. There was almost no need for me to physically do anything at all! The writing was on the wall (almost literally) and marked the moment that I exiled myself from doing commercial art any longer. I'm glad I did that as it would have annihilated me to eventually be eliminated by computers like I see so many artists have been... 💩

      I hear ya, but it's hard to bond with an AI. People still have the upper hand in that regard. Most people bond with the artist more than the art. Although they have AI that impersonate personality so what do I know?

    It would be great if AI would be used for "good things" - like scanning an offenders pc for "indecend pictures" instead having law enforcement people to do it. But everytime a tool could be used to help people someone finds a way to use it in a sinister manner. You even have to agree on a code-word with friends and family in case you get one of those "desperate" phone calls 😒
    If one of the artist I follow came up with that "don't do this or you're stupid"-crap it unfollow them. Luckily I seem to have sufficient good taste in the channels I chose to follow to not have stumbled upon such a "condescending donkey" 😃

    I think we’re all insecure to a certain extent. So maybe the ‘subscribers’ want rules with the idea that if they follow the rules their art will be better.
